Simple Sugar, Lactate, Is Like 'Candy for Cancer Cells': Cancer Cells Accelerate Aging and Inflammation in the Body to Drive Tumor Growth

ScienceDaily (May 28, 2011) — Researchers at the Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson have shed new light on the longstanding conundrum about what makes a tumor grow -- and how to make it stop. Interestingly, cancer cells accelerate the aging of nearby connective tissue cells to cause inflammation, which ultimately provides "fuel" for the tumor to grow and even metastasize.--This revealing symbiotic process, which is similar to how muscle and brain cells communicate with the body, could prove useful for developing new drugs to prevent and treat cancers. In this simple model, our bodies provide nourishment for the cancer cells, via chronic inflammation.--"People think that inflammation drives cancer, but they never understood the mechanism," said Michael P. Lisanti, M.D., Ph.D., Professor and Chair of Stem Cell Biology & Regenerative Medicine at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University and a member of the Kimmel Cancer Center. "What we found is that cancer cells are accelerating aging and inflammation, which is making high-energy nutrients to feed cancer cells."--In normal aging, DNA is damaged and the body begins to deteriorate because of oxidative stress. "We are all slowly rusting, like the Tin-man in the Wizard of Oz," Dr. Lisanti said. "And there is a very similar process going on in the tumor's local environment." Interestingly, cancer cells induce "oxidative stress," the rusting process, in normal connective tissue, in order to extract vital nutrients.--Dr. Lisanti and his team previously discovered that cancer cells induce this type of stress response (autophagy) in nearby cells, to feed themselves and grow. However, the mechanism by which the cancer cells induce this stress and, more importantly, the relationship between the connective tissue and how this "energy" is transferred was unclear.--"Nobody fully understands the link between aging and cancer," said Dr. Lisanti, who used pre-clinical models, as well as tumors from breast cancer patients, to study these mechanisms. "What we see now is that as you age, your whole body becomes more sensitive to this parasitic cancer mechanism, and the cancer cells selectively accelerate the aging process via inflammation in the connective tissue."--This helps explain why cancers exist in people of all ages, but susceptibility increases as you age. If aggressive enough, cancer cells can induce accelerated aging in the tumor, regardless of age, to speed up the process.--The researchers' findings are being published online June 1st in the journal Cell Cycle in three separate papers.--One paper analyzes the gene profiles of the laser-captured connective tissue, associated with lethal tumors, in human breast cancer patients. In this paper, lethal cancers show the same gene expression pattern associated with normal aging, as well as Alzheimer's disease. In fact, these aging and Alzheimer's disease signatures can identify which breast cancer patients will undergo metastasis. The researchers find that oxidative stress is a common "driver" for both dementia and cancer cell spreading.--In another study, the researchers explain that cancer cells initiate a "lactate shuttle" to move lactate -- the "food" -- from the connective tissue to the cancer cells. There's a transporter that is "spilling" lactate from the connective tissue and a transporter that then "gobbles" it up in the cancer cells."-The implication is that the fibroblasts in the connective tissue are feeding cancer cells directly via pumps, called MCT1 and MCT4, or mono-carboxylate transporters. The researchers see that lactate is like "candy" for cancer cells. And cancer cells are addicted to this supply of "candy."--"We've essentially shown for the first time that there is lactate shuttle in human tumors," said Dr. Lisanti. "It was first discovered nearly 100 years ago in muscles, 15 years ago in the brain, and now we've shown this shuttle also exists in human tumors."--It's all the same mechanism, where one cell type literally "feeds" the other. The cancer cells are the "Queen Bees," and the connective tissue cells are the "Worker Bees." In this analogy, the "Queen Bees" use aging and inflammation as the signal to tell the "Worker Bees" to make more food.--Researchers also identified MCT4 as a biomarker for oxidative stress in cancer-associated fibroblasts, and inhibiting it could be a powerful new anti-cancer therapy.--"If lethal cancer is a disease of "accelerated aging" in the tumor's connective tissue, then cancer patients may benefit from therapy with strong antioxidants and anti-inflammatory drugs," said Dr. Lisanti. "Antioxidant therapy will "cut off the fuel supply" for cancer cells." Antioxidants also have a natural anti-inflammatory action.--Story Source-The above story is reprinted (with editorial adaptations by ScienceDaily staff) from materials provided by Thomas Jefferson University, via EurekAlert!, a service of AAAS.--Journal References-Diana Whitaker-Menezes, Ubaldo E. Heart Disease Deaths Four Times Higher With Low Salt Intake

Maybe you are among the fortunate few who enjoyed salty seasoned meals, defying all medical warnings and nagging from your friends and family. The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) is changing their tune about salt intake. Natural health professionals have long valued salt for cardiovascular balance among other benefits. JAMA will publish a study that shows that people with greater salt intake are the ones more likely to avoid hypertension, heart disease and death. Doctors never really could explain why they believed lower salt intake would improve heart health. But don’t expect convention doctors to sing the praises of salt any time soon

Heart Disease Deaths Four Times Higher With Low Salt Intake: JAMA Study

As Gaia Health has informed you, there is no truth to the claim that high salt intake is unhealthy. In fact, evidence shows the opposite to be true. Forget all those claims that you need to keep your salt intake low to maintain heart health. It isn’t true. Those claims have been based on deeply flawed studies and the medical establishment’s enforcement of lock-step obedience to whatever the current orders happen to be. Right now, one of them is that lower salt intake is healthy for everyone. The reality is exactly the opposite for most people. Today, the Journal of the American Medical Association(JAMA) is publishing a study of 3,681 people that correlated their salt intake with hypertension and cardiovascular disease and death. The results are clear: People with greater salt intake have significantly less heart disease and death from it. The authors concluded: The associations between systolic pressure and sodium excretion did not translate into less morbidity or improved survival. On the contrary, low sodium excretion predicted higher cardiovascular mortality. Taken together, our current findings refute the estimates of computer models of lives saved and health care costs reduced with lower salt intake. They do also [sic] not support the current recommendations of a generalized and indiscriminate reduction of salt intake at the population level. However, they do not negate the blood pressure-lowering effects of a dietary salt reduction in hypertensive patients  Notice, also, that lowering blood pressure is not beneficial to health, though that claim is also routinely made. As the JAMA study shows, a slight decrease in blood pressure occurs with lowered salt intake; it’s nominal and entirely unrelated to outcomes .Trial participants were followed for a median of 7.9 years. Overall, the death rates were:  Independence of the Study The study, entitled “Fatal and Nonfatal Outcomes, Incidence of Hypertension, and Blood Pressure Changes in Relation to Urinary Sodium Excretion”, did not suffer from the common flaws of many, if not most, medical studies. It wasn’t financed by Big Pharma. None of the authors received money from Big Pharma or industries related to the topic studied. There were no ghost authors; the researchers who drafted the manuscript are specified. The researchers named first and last in the credits, Katarzyna Stolarz-Skrzypek, MD, PhD and Jan A. Staessen, MD, PhD for the European Project on Genes in Hypertension, were both the research leaders and the actual authors. How Are Estimates of Death Rates from Salt Intake Generally Made? Of course, we’re all aware of just how consistently we’re told that lower salt intake improves heart health. But how do you suppose they come up with the estimates that supposedly prove it? It’s done by magic, of course! As the study’s authors point out, presumptions are fed into computer models, which grind out predefined results of “lives saved”. The claims are based on bits being tossed around inside computer chips, not on real-life data. Furious Response from Mainstream Medicos As might be expected, mainstream medical so-called experts are furious about the study. According to reporting by Lisa Nainggolan of theHeart.org, Dr. Graham MacGregor, of Queen Mary University, London, a low-salt promoter who has managed to con the entire UK nation into reducing food salt content, the findings are “paradoxical” and, therefore, cannot be trusted. He stated: They’ve shown that salt puts up blood pressure, and yet they then claim that salt relates inversely to events. Well, that doesn’t make sense…[It illustrates] the bias of the authors, in my view. Everything else that has been shown to lower BP is beneficial in terms of heart attacks and strokes. He further stated that the paper is “badly written” and has “severe methodological problem, and continued with: I really don’t think this is worth paying attention to. They are trying to create a stir. This is clever, but it’s harmful in my view. It’s like saying we don’t think cigarettes are harmful so we shouldn’t do anything about smoking. The overall evidence [in favor of salt reduction] is overwhelming. That isn’t to say we wouldn’t change our mind if we had really good evidence, but I don’t think this is it. This will not divert us from reducing salt intake worldwide. At a high-level meeting of the World Health Organization, salt reduction has been recommended as the next thing after tobacco reduction because it’s so cost-effective to implement and so easy to do. MacGregor uses typical methods of obfuscating. He attacks the quality of the study, but offers little to support his assertion. He makes sweeping claims without supporting them. He then falls back on one of the grand standards for those who don’t really have good evidence to support their contentions: They make clear that their view is the popular one. In the end, MacGregor states that, even if the study were “perfectly done” it wouldn’t make any difference, because there are so many that support his point of view. What he doesn’t mention is how deeply flawed those studies are. As I discussed in Take a Grain of Salt With That Salt Reduction Advice, careful analysis of most of those studies shows that they tend to cherry-pick data, while meta analysis of the data itself shows the same results as this study.

Turning Differing Views Into Heresy

The danger inherent in rigidly held beliefs by entrenched health powers is clearly revealed here. Modern medicine’s focus on treating disease, rather than on maintaining health, has resulted in promotion of many false claims, with obvious negative effects on the well-being of people. It has become virtual heresy to suggest that any claims by modern medicine are incorrect. It’s so ingrained that even alternative medicine often follows the pack, as in the advice to lower salt intake. And now, we have governments enforcing these false claims. Salt reduction is being enforced in the food industry. Schools are reducing salt in lunches—and some schools are forcing children to eat their lunches instead of bringing them from home. There is now an industry in place to push people into consuming less salt. Don’t expect the results of this study to have any effect on what modern medicine or their cohorts in crime, governmental agencies, do regarding salt recommendations. Too much is riding on them. Reputations of doctors and high-ranking government officials could be harmed if the truth were acknowledged. The waste of massive amounts of the public’s money in promoting lower salt intake would betray the political health of elected officials. In that world, the actual health of the people carries little weight. As a result, any pseudo-study that promotes the approved doctrine is pointed out as “proving” the official proclamation. Any honest study that demonstrates the truth is quickly ridiculed, condemned, and then quietly swept under the rug. Humans have understood the value of salt since humans have existed. It was traded among the earliest communities on earth—likely back in the times of cave dwelling. We use expressions like “salt of the earth” because of that recognition of its value. Only in modern times, with science corrupted by corrupted medicine and government ,is salt treated as our enemy. by Heidi Stevenson

GM soy- The invisible ingredient 'poisoning' children

The home of Petrona Villasboa is surrounded by genetically modified (GM) soy fields. The golden crop looks like a bumper harvest but for her it is a symbol of death. -Petrona Villasboa, with a picture of her son Silvino Talavera, who she claims died of 'intoxication' after being sprayed by pesticides. By Louise Gray, Environment Correspondent 7:00AM BST 02 May 2011

“Soy destroys people’s lives,” she says. “It is a poison. It is no way to live. Soy is deadly to us”.   Sitting outside her painted green shack in rural Paraguay, the mother of eight describes the day in January 2003 when her 11-year-old son Silvino Talavera came home from cycling to the shops.   “I was washing clothes down by the river and he came to tell me he had been sprayed by one of the mosquitoes (the spraying machines behind a tractor),” she says.   “He smelt so bad that he took his clothes off and jumped straight in the water.”   The busy mum did not think much more about it. For people living around GM soy fields spraying with chemicals is a common occurrence.    But later that day the whole family was ill after eating the food that was carried through the heavily-sprayed fields.   Petrona rushed her youngest child to hospital and by the time she was back Silvino was in bed rigid with pain.   Now in a blind panic, she begged local farmers to take her to hospital.   “He was violently sick, he said mummy, my bones ache, his skin went black,” she says.   By the time they arrived in the city Silvino was paralysed, all the doctors could do was administer pain killers, while his mother wiped the foam from his mouth. In a few hours he was dead.   To the family it was clear this horrific death was caused by chemical intoxication but in their grief no autopsy was ever carried out. It was only after years of campaigning that Petrona managed to get the case to court. Eventually two local farmers were convicted of causing the death, though it is unclear whether they have ever been sent to prison.   Like many court cases in Paraguay there are serious unanswered questions. But Petrona is sure of one thing, that her son’s death was caused by GM soy and we should listen to her because we are eating it.  Daily Telegraph investigations have found that every single supermarket in Britain stocks meat and dairy from animals fed GM soy. Leading brands including Cadbury, Unilever and Dairycrest, also use products from livestock fed GM.   In fact the new technology is so widespread that it is likely at least one item of food you eat today will have come from an animal fed GM soy, whether it was the milk on your cereal or the bacon in your sandwich.   But what effect is our growing reliance on soy having on the countries supplying Britain with this ‘invisible ingredient’?   Paraguay, a landlocked country in the heart of South America, is on the front line of the new craze for growing ‘green gold’.   In many ways it is the perfect place to grow unsustainable soy. Ruled by despotic dictators for centuries, the country is famous for being a hot bed of drug smugglers, Nazi war criminals and even al-Qaeda. Even now, with a new democratically government in place, corruption is rife and regulations to protect the people are lax to say the least.   In the last year the amount of land planted with soy has grown to a record 2.6 million hectares, most of which is GM, leading to claims of deforestation, violent land disputes and the ‘poisoning’ of local communities.   Already it is estimated that 90 per cent of the Atlantic Rainforest in Paraguay has been lost to make way for crops, taking with it thousands of unique plants species, hundreds of rare birds and endangered animals like the jaguar.   There is evidence that soy production is now moving into the vast ‘Gran Chaco’ in the north of the country, the home of some of the last uncontracted tribes on Earth. The Natural History Museum are currently planning an expedition to the area in the hope of finding hundreds of undiscovered species before it is too late.   Its not just animals that suffer, the forests were also home to humans. Groups of Guarani people claim they have been driven from their land by the soy farmers. They can be seen camping in pathetic tarpaulin shacks in the town squares or on the road side. ‘Campesinos’, the small farmers who have traditionally worked the land, also claim they have been displaced. Since the first soy boom of 1990 it is estimated 100,000 farmers in Paraguay have been forced to migrate to urban slums. Like the ‘wild west’, as soy production moves into new areas there have been violent clashes between land owners and peasants occupying the land. Many of the ‘invaders’ are from Brazil or the even more alien Mennonites, a religious sect from Germany. Amnesty International say fights over land has led to several deaths, thousands of arrests and hundreds of injuries. In some areas there are reportedly armed guards protecting the soy fields 24 hours a day.   Those peasants who have clung to their land claim, like Petrona, that they are being “poisoned” by the ‘mosquitoes’. Most of the crop in Paraguay is GM and requires spraying with agrochemicals. Just as in the UK, farmers are expected to follow certain regulations when spraying fields such as leaving a space between homes or school playgrounds. ‘Live’ barriers of trees should be planted to protect communities and spraying is not allowed in strong winds or hot conditions.  However growing evidence of contamination, poisonings and even deaths suggest the rules are not being followed.   Farmers are also reported to be using compounds that are outlawed in Europe such as the 2,4-D or combinations of chemicals that could be dangerous.   Dr Stela Benítez, a paediatrician at Asuncion University, carried out a study in 2006 summarised in a respected American paediatrics journal, that found women living within 1km of sprayed fields were twice as likely to have a child with deformities.   She is quite certain that there is a risk and the regulations should be applied when spraying close to people’s homes, after all there are rules in Europe, so why not protect people in poorer countries?   “I am worried about a lack of control in an industry that does not apply the principle of protection over all our children,” she says.   The flouting of the law seems to be the main problem in a tour of Paraguay with Friends of the Earth to meet some of the victims of pesticides spraying.   The most recent case happened this January in the rolling hills of Colonia Yeruti, where a few families plant maize amid the growing fields of soy. Isabella Portillo, 26, describes how both her husband Reuben Caceras, 28, and her 2-year-old son Diego became sick after the fields were sprayed with a heavy dose of chemicals. The baby survived but she says her husband died of "intoxication" a few days later. “It is hard without him,” she says. “I feel completely alone.”   In Itakyru a whole community was affected when poisons “rained from the sky” and Guarani women and children were rushed to hospital. The chief says Giralda Gauto Vera, 18, and her daughter Giseli, 18 months, were in hospital for four days after the planes came. Later the authorities confirm that aerial spraying should not even be allowed in an area dotted with the dwellings of indigenous people.   Dr Angie Duarte, who has treated dozens of patients at the public hospital in Curuguaty for what she believes is “intoxication”, admits that many of the worse affected communities are already suffering from malnutrition, immune deficiency and perhaps even using dangerous chemicals themselves on crops.   But isn’t that all the more reason to ensure they are protected?   “How much is it costing to get this so wrong?” she asks. “I fear this will become a problem for the future because more people are getting sick and it impacts on health system. It is in everyone’s interests to act.”   Soy has certainly been in Paraguay’s economic interest over the last year, driving unprecedented growth of 14.5 per cent, ahead of even China.   Sweeping his hand across the shimmering fields, Breno Batista Bianchi is confident that it is soy farmers like him that the country has to thank.   Using new machinery and GM, he is reporting record yields while using less pesticides and water   Of course there are some problems with ‘super weeds’, that build up resistance to chemicals, and outbreaks of disease, but these can easily be solved.  “They will invent new seeds, new chemicals,” he says.   But this blind faith in progress is not shared by everyone.   Paraguay might be providing the soil, water and labour but a tiny percentage of the population see the profits. Soy is not even taxed and most of it leaves South America labelled as ‘Brazilian’ as shipments are mixed in together at the sea ports.   Oskar Rivas, the Environment Minister in a new socialist government, says the growth of soy must not be at the expense of the people.

“It is false development. Who foots the bill? The countryside, the people and the ecosystems and who keeps the profit? The corporations.”   Sr Rivas said it is up to the British consumer to demand change.   While he accepts it is too late to stop GM being grown in Paraguay, he insists more non-GM could be grown, just as in Brazil where whole states have insisted on a more sustainable system, or at least a more sustainable crop.  You have the right to demand cheap milk and meat but you also have the right to demand milk and meat from environmentally sound sources,” he adds.  New initiatives such as the Round Table on Responsible Soy (RTSS), backed by WWF, hope to encourage this sort of production by producing a new label for soy, including GM soy, produced in a sustainable way. Already it has been taken up by major supermarkets in the UK including Waitrose, Asda, M&S and Sainsbury’s although many environmental groups are against a scheme that endorses GM.   Sitting in his new office complex, that is currently been dug up to make an organic garden, Sr Rivas sketches out his vision for a country that uses some of the best growing conditions in the world to produce healthy sustainable food.  Already Friends of the Earth International are working with local charity Sobrevivencia to teach communities environmental law so they can fight back when communities are sprayed and organic farming techniques so they can make their own food.   “At the moment we all lose out,” says the minister. “With a different structural process we could all win.”

Pathogen New to Science Found in Roundup Ready GM Crops?

USDA senior scientist sends “emergency” warning to US Secretary of Agriculture
Tom Vilsack on
a new plant pathogen in Roundup Ready GM soybean and corn that may be responsible for high rates of infertility and spontaneous abortions in livestock. Dr. Mae-Wan Ho--An open letter appeared on the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance founded and run by Judith McGeary to save family farms in the US [1, 2].  The letter, written by Don Huber, professor emeritus at Purdue University, to Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, warns of a pathogen “new to science” discovered by “a team of senior plant and animal scientists”. Huber says it should be treated as an “emergency’’, as it could result in “a collapse of US soy and corn export markets and significant disruption of domestic food and feed supplies.”------The letter appeared to have been written before Vilsack announced his decision to authorize unrestricted commercial planting of GM alfalfa on 1 February, in the hope of convincing the Secretary of Agriculture to impose a moratorium instead on deregulation of Roundup Ready (RR) crops.  The new pathogen appears associated with serious pervasive diseases in plants -sudden death syndrome in soybean and Goss' wilt in corn – but its suspected effects on livestock is alarming.  Huber refers to “recent reports of infertility rates in dairy heifers of over 20%, and spontaneous abortions in cattle as high as 45%.”This could be the worst nightmare of genetic engineering that some scientists including me have been warning for years [3] (see Genetic Engineering Dream or Nightmare, ISIS publication): the unintended creation of new pathogens through assisted horizontal gene transfer and recombination. Huber writes in closing: “I have studied plant pathogens for more than 50 years. We are now seeing an unprecedented trend of increasing plant and animal diseases and disorders. This pathogen may be instrumental to understanding and solving this problem. It deserves immediate attention with significant resources to avoid a general collapse of our critical agricultural infrastructure.” The complete letter is reproduced below.

Dear Secretary Vilsack:

A team of senior plant and animal scientists have recently brought to my
attention the discovery of an electron microscopic pathogen that appears to
significantly impact the health of plants, animals, and probably
[U1]  human beings.
Based on a review of the data, it is widespread, very serious, and is in much
higher concentrations in Roundup Ready (RR) soybeans and corn-suggesting a link  with the
RR gene or more likely the presence of Roundup. This organism appears NEW to science! This is highly sensitive information that could result in a collapse of US soy and corn export markets and significant disruption of domestic food and feed supplies. On the ther hand, this new organism may already be responsible for significant harm (see below). My colleagues and I are therefore moving our investigation forward with speed and discretion, and seek assistance from the USDA and other entities to identify the pathogen's source, prevalence, implications, and remedies. We are informing the USDA of our findings at this early stage, specifically due to your pending decision regarding approval of RR alfalfa. Naturally, if either the RR gene or Roundup itself is a promoter or co-factor of this pathogen, then such approval could be a calamity. Based on the current evidence, the only reasonable action at this time would be to delay deregulation at least until sufficient data has exonerated the RR system, if it does. For the past 40 years, I have been a scientist in the professional and military agencies that evaluate and prepare for natural and manmade biological threats, including germ warfare and disease outbreaks. Based on this experience, I believe the threat we are facing from this pathogen is unique and of a high risk status. In layman's terms, it should be treated as an emergency. A diverse set of researchers working on this problem have contributed various pieces of the puzzle, which together presents the following disturbing scenario: Unique Physical Properties This previously unknown organism is only visible under an electron microscope (36,000X), with an approximate size range equal to a medium size virus. It is able to reproduce and appears to be a micro-fungal-like organism. If so, it would be the first such micro-fungus ever identified. There is strong evidence that this infectious agent promotes diseases of both plants and mammals, which is very rare. Pathogen Location and Concentration It is found in high concentrations in Roundup Ready soybean meal and corn, distillers meal, fermentation feed products, pig stomach contents, and pig and cattle placentas. Linked with Outbreaks of Plant Disease The organism is prolific in plants infected with two pervasive diseases that are driving down yields and farmer income-sudden death syndrome (SDS) in soy, and Goss' wilt in corn. The pathogen is also found in the fungal causative agent of SDS (Fusarium solani fsp
glycines). Implicated in Animal Reproductive Failure Laboratory tests have confirmed the presence of this organism in a wide variety of livestock that have experienced spontaneous abortions and infertility
. Preliminary results from ongoing research have also been able to reproduce abortions in a clinical setting. The pathogen may explain the escalating frequency of infertility and spontaneous abortions over the past few years in US cattle, dairy, swine, and horse operations. These include recent reports of infertility rates in dairy heifers of over 20%, and spontaneous abortions in cattle as high as 45%. For example, 450 of 1,000 pregnant heifers fed wheatlege experienced spontaneous abortions. Over the same period, another 1,000 heifers from the same herd that were raised on hay had no abortions. High concentrations of the pathogen were confirmed management using glyphosate. Recommendations In summary, because of the high titer of this new animal pathogen in Roundup Ready crops, and its association with plant and animal diseases that are reaching epidemic proportions, we request USDA's participation in a multi-agency investigation, and an immediate moratorium on the deregulation of RR crops until the causal/predisposing relationship with glyphosate and/or RR plants can be ruled out as a threat to crop and animal production and human health.-It is urgent to examine whether the side-effects of glyphosate use may have facilitated the growth of this pathogen, or allowed it to cause greater harm to weakened plant and animal hosts. It is well-documented that glyphosate promotes soil pathogens and is already implicated with the increase of more than 40 plant diseases; it dismantles plant defenses by chelating vital nutrients; and it reduces the bioavailability of nutrients in feed, which in turn can cause animal
disorders. [U2] To properly evaluate these factors, we request access to the relevant USDA data.

I have studied plant pathogens for more than 50 years. We are now seeing an
unprecedented trend of increasing plant and animal diseases and disorders. This
pathogen may be instrumental to understanding and solving this problem. It
deserves immediate attention with significant resources to avoid a general
collapse of our critical agricultural infrastructure.

Sincerely,

COL (Ret.) Don M. Huber Emeritus Professor, Purdue University

Toxin from GM crops found in human blood

Dinesh C. Sharma  | New Delhi, May 11, 2011 | 09:30

Bt toxin is widely used in genetically modified crops.--Fresh doubts have arisen about the safety of genetically modified crops, with a new study reporting presence of Bt toxin, used widely in GM crops, in human blood for the first time.-Genetically modified crops include genes extracted from bacteria to make them resistant to pest attacks.-These genes make crops toxic to pests but are claimed to pose no danger to the environment and human health. Genetically modified brinjal, whose commercial release was stopped a year ago, has a toxin derived from a soil bacterium called Bacillus thuringiensis ( Bt). Till now, scientists and multinational corporations promoting GM crops have maintained that Bt toxin poses no danger to human health as the protein breaks down in the human gut. But the presence of this toxin in human blood shows that this does not happen.--Scientists from the University of Sherbrooke, Canada, have detected the insecticidal protein, Cry1Ab, circulating in the blood of pregnant as well as non-pregnant women.-They have also detected the toxin in fetal blood, implying it could pass on to the next generation. The research paper has been peer-reviewed and accepted for publication in the journal Reproductive Toxicology. The study covered 30 pregnant women and 39 women who had come for tubectomy at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Sherbrooke (CHUS) in Quebec.--None of them had worked or lived with a spouse working in contact with pesticides.--They were all consuming typical Canadian diet that included GM foods such as soybeans, corn and potatoes. Blood samples were taken before delivery for pregnant women and at tubal ligation for non-pregnant women. Umbilical cord blood sampling was done after birth.-Cry1Ab toxin was detected in 93 per cent and 80 per cent of maternal and fetal blood samples, respectively and in 69 per cent of tested blood samples from non-pregnant women. Earlier studies had found trace amounts of the Cry1Ab toxin in gastrointestinal contents of livestock fed on GM corn. This gave rise to fears that the toxins may not be effectively eliminated in humans and there may be a high risk of exposure through consumption of contaminated meat.-"Generated data will help regulatory agencies responsible for the protection of human health to make better decisions", noted researchers Aziz Aris and Samuel Leblanc.--Given the potential toxicity of these environmental pollutants and the fragility of the foetus, more studies are needed, particularly those using the placental transfer approach, they added Experts have warned of serious implications for India. Cottonseed oil is made from seeds of genetically modified cotton and thus Bt toxin may have already entered the food chain in India.--"Indian regulators should be immediately called for detailed toxicological studies to know the extent of contamination of the human blood with Bt toxins coming from cottonseed oil, and also ascertain its long term health impacts," Sharma said.

Meat grown in TEST TUBES instead of on the farm is 'only a few years away' as scientists cook up 'in vitro' burgers

By Brian Clark Howard

Although the thought of a juicy steak or chicken tender raised in a laboratory, disassociated from fur or feathers, may sound unappetizing, scientists say it's only a matter of years before we'll all be tucking in to 'in vitro meat'.-To one researcher in the growing field, Dr. Vladimir Mironov of the Medical University of South Carolina, it's not a question of how long it will take before seeing the products on store shelves, it's a question of how much it will cost to develop. Dr Mironov told ABC: 'If I had 10 million dollars, then maybe 5 or 10 years'. --Appetizing?: The Tissue Culture and Art Project by Oron Catts, Ionat Zurr and Guy Ben Ary in 2003 invited guests to eat meat grown in the lab from frog cells--Growing meat: Nicholas Genovese of the Medical University of South Carolina works on a new batch of 'in vitro meat', which he hopes will be safer than natural meat for consumers

It's a surprisingly frank revelation from a scientist about something that seems ripped straight out of science fiction.-In fact, Canadian author Margaret Atwood's acclaimed dystopic novel 'Oryx and Crake' described just such a food stuff. In the 2003 book, characters of the future munch on pinkish 'ChickieNobs', which are chicken nuggets made in a lab, without actual chickens.-Also that year, The Tissue Culture and Art Project by Oron Catts, Ionat Zurr and Guy Ben Ary invited guests to an art gallery in France to dine on meat grown in the lab from frog cells.-In a trend that perhaps suggests our growing alienation from the methods of our foo d production, urban legends have circulated for several years that this or that fast food chain has already been serving us meat from 'genetically engineered' animal parts that lack heads or hearts.-The fact remains that such production methods have remained out of reach, but are getting closer every day. Dr Mironov has been working on the problem for a decade. He says the essential process is taking stem cells from an animal and then immersing them in a plant-derived mixture of nutrients.-Science: Supporters of in vitro meat say it could offer environmental, health and animal welfare benefits  As the cells develop, they attach to a natural scaffold, gradually forming muscle tissue, which as butchers know is the primary ingredient in meat. -Scientists envision being able to customize meat blends based on individual taste, fat content or even nutrients. In other words, if you like your beef extra lean, you can have it your way with just the turn of a dial. Want some extra vitamins that are said to boost libido? No problem, juice it up - maybe even with your home-based grower[i3] .-Currently, it costs the equivalent of tens of thousands of dollars to make a patty of 'in vitro' meat in the lab[i4] . --But boosters hope economies of scale will mean prices will drop dramatically, if the procedure can be industrialized on a large scale.--One of Dr Mironov's assistants, Nicholas Genovese, told ABC: 'There's many products that we've eaten for centuries, such as beer and bread, and these are accepted, traditional products of biotechnology. This is taking it to the next step'. Custom products: Dr. Vladimir Mironov of the Medical University of South Carolina says we may one day be able to order artificial meat to taste, and with extra nutrients-Point taken, although scientists may be underestimating humankind's strong emotional attachment to our food. -One need only look at the strong opposition to genetically modified foods in much of Europe as evidence, and those products are arguably less foreign than meat grown by a guy in a white lab coat. Still, boosters claim the benefits of in vitro meat will outweigh the initial ick factor -  after all, how brave was the person who first tried an oyster? Mr Genovese said:'Conventional meat is a leading cause of food poisoning. Cultured meat produced in aseptic conditions would not have access to those pathogens.' Outspoken animal rights activists PETA (People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals) have been calling for lab-raised, 'animal-free' meat for years, and have been bankrolling some of the research[i5] . They argue that our current system of animal agriculture is extremely destructive to the planet and our own health, let along the lives of millions of animals raised for slaughter every year. Future food: Scientists say they need more money to research artificial meat, which they think may be ready in as few as 5 to 10 years PETA points to studies estimating production of meat accounts for about 20 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions, since 'factory farming' is so energy intensive (there's also the challenge of safely disposing of mountains of smelly waste[i6] ). Researchers of in vitro meat have therefore found unusual allies in some animal and environmental activists, many of whom otherwise push for a return to 'more natural' means of food production, such as organics, 'Slow Food', and local eating. For[i7]  now, the coalition appears fragile, and it's unclear if fears will be raised about the novelty of the products down the line, or some untested risk, should they get approved by regulatory agencies and commercialized.--Dr Mironov says researchers need more money to advance the science before more is known.

[U1]Don't  you love the Honesty here--we are more worries about animals and not to concerned about human beings "probably human beings " leaves less credibility to this article and should have emphasized strongly that human beings are being impacted due to the fact we have been eating these things for so long that the diseases can be tied to the food chain---if there is a fertility issue going on with animals then there will be reproductive damge as well to anyone consuming these foods--I.E . Soy  causes the reproductive system to become cancerous--genetically modified corn and it's by product HFCS or corn sugar iniiates and exacerbrates Diabetes and Obesity due to it's detrimental effect on metabolism-thyroid and pancreas--Amazing compromise here when we are seeing an alarming discovery on livestock being damaged!!!

[U2]This is incredible--the implication here is that due to the nutritional defect in the crops those who choose to be non animal consumers will further exasperate deficiencies that they may have or become deficient over time---these are foods would no value--mass produced and eventually will cause anyone with a weakened to break down completely and anyone with a healthy system to become broken

[i3]Here is the problem adding things to this from a genetic scale there is always usually something amiss here and with the process there is usually issues of material and what you would feed this MEAT=What Chemical additives to cut a corner—what junk or garbage you would initiate this with to save from having to pay for the removal—just like they have done with soy and fish oils and canola to name a few---the way things are heading this will be the choice of farming---totally under the control of the Agribusiness---this will leave the land for further exploitation removing even more trees making the lanet more sterile

[i4]So this then would only feed those who are extremely wealthy—the rest would eat what???

[i5]You have to wonder who these people are---Have you heard of them? This is how these things sell with some obscure group they pull ut of the air to justify a technology they are trying to sell

[i6]Green house gasses are not necessarily a bad thing---this is done in Nature normally when forest and fields yield high amounts of vegetation---it is the Industry meddling with the balance that is the problem not a sector of farming

Cancers' Sweet Tooth May Be Weakness

ScienceDaily (Nov. 18, 2009) — The pedal-to-the-metal signals driving the growth of several types of cancer cells lead to a common switch governing the use of glucose, researchers at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University have discovered.-Scientists who study cancer have known for decades that cancer cells tend to consume more glucose, or blood sugar, than healthy cells. This tendency is known as the "Warburg effect," honoring discoverer Otto Warburg, a German biochemist who won the 1931 Nobel Prize in Medicine. Now a Winship-led team has identified a way to possibly exploit cancer cells' taste for glucose.-The results were published recently in the journal Science Signaling.-Normally cells have two modes of burning glucose, comparable to sprinting and long-distance running: glycolysis, which doesn't require oxygen and doesn't consume all of the glucose molecule, and oxidative phosphorylation, which requires oxygen and is more thorough.---Cancer cells often outgrow their blood supply, leading to a lack of oxygen in a tumor, says Jing Chen, PhD, assistant professor of hematology and medical oncology at Emory University School of Medicine and Winship Cancer Institute. They also benefit from glycolysis because leftovers from the inefficient consumption of glucose can be used as building blocks for growing cells.--"Even if they have oxygen, cancer cells still prefer glycolysis," Chen says. "They depend on it to grow quickly."--Working with Chen, postdoctoral researcher Taro Hitosugi focused on the enzyme PKM2 (pyruvate kinase M2), which governs the use of glucose and controls whether cells make the switch between glycolysis and oxidative phosphorylation. PKM2 is found predominantly in fetal cells and in tumor cells.---In many types of cancer, mutations lead to over-activation of proteins called tyrosine kinases. Chen's team showed that tyrosine kinases turn off PKM2 in lung, breast, prostate and blood cancers. Introducing a form of PKM2 that is not sensitive to tyrosine kinases into cancer cells forces them to grow slower and be more dependent on oxygen, they found.--Because the active form of PKM2 consists of four protein molecules stuck together, having a tyrosine kinase flip the "off" switch on one molecule can dampen the activity for the others.---"People knew that tyrosine kinases might modify PKM2 for decades but they didn't think it mattered," Chen says. "We showed that such a modification is important and you even don't need that much modification of PKM2 to make a difference in the cells' metabolism."--PKM2 could be a good drug target, because both inhibiting it or activating it can slow down cancer cell growth. Biotechnology companies are already searching for ways to do so, Chen says.--Scientists from Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Yale University, Cell Signaling Technology Inc. and Novartis contributed to the paper.--The research was supported by the National Institutes of Health, the American Cancer Society and the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.

Understanding Cancer Energetics: Researchers Solve Mystery of Warburg Effect

ScienceDaily (June 3, 2011) — It's long been known that cancer cells eat a lot of sugar to stay alive. In fact, where normal, noncancerous cells generate energy from using some sugar and a lot of oxygen, cancerous cells use virtually no oxygen and a lot of sugar. Many genes have been implicated in this process, and now, reporting in the May 27 issue of Cell, researchers at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine have discovered that this so-called Warburg effect is controlled.---"It turns out to be a feed-forward mechanism, where protein A turns on B, which in turn goes back and helps A do more," says Gregg Semenza, M.D., Ph.D., the C. Michael Armstrong Professor of Medicine, director of the vascular program at Johns Hopkins' Institute for Cell Engineering and a member of the McKusick-Nathans Institute of Genetic Medicine. "PKM2 normally functions as an enzyme involved in the metabolism of glucose, but in this case we have demonstrated a novel role in the control of gene expression in cancer cells."--Nearly 20 years ago, Semenza's research team discovered that HIF-1 can turn on a number of genes that that help cells survive when oxygen levels fall too low. In addition to genes that contribute to building new blood vessels, HIF-1 also turns on genes involved in the metabolic process that turns glucose into energy. One of those genes, pyruvate kinase M2 or PKM2, catalyzes the first step of this metabolic process and is present only in cancer cells.---To figure out whether and if HIF-1 and PKM2 interact, the team first engineered cells to have or lack HIF-1. They kept them in high or low oxygen for 24 hours and found that cells starved of oxygen, but containing HIF-1, had more PKM2 than cells without HIF-1, suggesting that HIF-1 controls the production of PKM2.---The team then asked if HIF-1 and PKM2 physically interact with each other by isolating one of the two proteins from cells; they found that pulling one out also resulted in the other coming along for the ride, showing that the two proteins do in fact bind to each other.--[U1] Knowing that the primary function of HIF-1 is to bind DNA and turn on specific genes, Semenza's team next asked whether PKM2 somehow helped HIF-1 do that. They examined genes known to be activated by HIF-1 in low oxygen after the removal of PKM2 and found that without PKM2, less HIF-1 was bound to DNA.--Now armed with evidence that PKM2 helps HIF-1 turn on genes, the team looked at the activity of genes directly involved in the metabolic pathway that burns so much sugar in cancer cells and compared genes known to be activated by HIF-1 with those not affected by HIF-1. Removing PKM2 from cells had no effect on genes not controlled by HIF-1 but reduced the activity of HIF-1-controlled genes.

"These results were really astounding," says Semenza. "In addition to solving the long-standing mystery of the Warburg effect, we also discovered that PKM2 may play a far broader role in promoting cancer progression than has been appreciated before." This study was funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.---Authors on the paper are Weibo Luo, Hongxia Hu, Ryan Chang, Jun Zhong, Matthew Knabel, Robert O'Meally, Robert Cole, Akhilesh Pandey and Gregg Semenza, all of Johns Hopkins.--Story Source-The above story is reprinted (with editorial adaptations by ScienceDaily staff) from materials provided by Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions.---Journal Reference-Weibo Luo, Hongxia Hu, Ryan Chang, Jun Zhong, Matthew Knabel, Robert O'Meally, Robert N. Tumors Use Sugars To Avoid Programmed Cell Death

ScienceDaily (Apr. 17, 2008) — Researchers at the Duke School of Medicine apparently have solved the riddle of why cancer cells like sugar so much, and it may be a mechanism that could lead to better cancer treatments.---Jonathan Coloff, a graduate student in Assistant Professor Jeffrey Rathmell's laboratory in the Duke Department of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology, has found that the tumor cells use glucose sugar as a way to avoid programmed cell death. They make use of a protein called Akt, which promotes glucose metabolism, which in turn regulates a family of proteins critical for cell survival, the researchers shared during an April 15 presentation at the American Association of Cancer Research Annual Meeting in San Diego.---In normal cells, growth factors regulate metabolism and cell survival. Removing these factors leads to loss of glucose uptake and metabolism and cell death. Cancer cells, however, maintain glucose metabolism and resist cell death, even when deprived of growth factors.--To study how Akt might affect these processes, Coloff and colleagues introduced a cancer-causing form of Akt called myrAkt, into cells that depend on growth factor to survive. The mutant form of Akt allowed cells to maintain glucose usage and survive even when no growth factors were present, allowing them to bypass a normal safeguard used by cells to prevent cancer development.---The death of normal cells after growth factors are removed is partly accomplished by two proteins called Mcl-1 and Puma. But the cancer-causing version of Akt prevents these two proteins from accomplishing their tasks, allowing the cell to survive when it shouldn't.---Once glucose was withdrawn from the environment, however, Akt was no longer able to maintain regulation of the key targeted proteins Mcl-1 and Puma, and the cells died.[U2]

"Akt's dependence on glucose to provide an anti-cell-death signal could be a sign of metabolic addiction to glucose in cancer cells, and could give us a new avenue for a metabolic treatment of cancer," said Dr. Rathmell.

Many Cancer Survivors Can't Shake Pain, Fatigue, Insomnia, Foggy Brain

ScienceDaily (June 4, 2011) — When people finish treatment for cancer, they want to bounce back to their former vital selves as quickly as possible. But a new Northwestern Medicine study -- one of the largest survivor studies ever conducted -- shows many survivors still suffer moderate to severe problems with pain, fatigue, sleep, memory and concentration three to five years after treatment has ended.--"We were surprised to see how prevalent these symptoms still are," said study co-investigator Lynne Wagner, an associate professor of medical social sciences at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and a clinical health psychologist at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University. "This is one of the first looks at what's really happening for survivors in terms of symptoms and treatment among community-based treatment settings across the U.S."--The persistent pain in survivors who are cancer-free and no longer receiving any treatment is particularly \ haven't come a long way in managing pain despite a lot of medical advances, " she said. "This is eye opening. It tells us we need to be better in clinical practice about managing our survivors' pain."--Wagner is presenting the findings at the 2011 American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting in Chicago. June 5 is National Cancer Survivors Day.--Cancer survivors seem to slip through the cracks in healthcare in terms of getting treatment for their pain and other symptoms.---"We don't have a great system to provide care to cancer survivors," Wagner said. "Cancer survivors are left trying to put the pieces together to find optimal care. They ideally need to see someone who is knowledgeable about the long-term affects of treatment." She pointed to the example of the STAR (Survivors Taking Action & Responsibility) Survivorship Program at Lurie Cancer Center, a comprehensive long-term follow-up program for survivors of pediatric cancer.--The study included a sample of 248 survivors of breast, colorectal, lung and prostate cancer. The survivors were primarily female and white, and most were more than five years post-diagnosis. They also had been treated in community settings -- where 80 percent of people with cancer are treated in the United States -- as opposed to academic medical centers. This group best represents the typical experience of cancer survivors around the country, Wagner said.

The most common symptoms reported by survivors were fatigue (16 percent), disturbed sleep (15 percent), cognitive difficulties (13 percent) and pain (13 percent.)---Survivors need education programs for transitioning from treatment to life as a cancer survivor, and this education should include skills for managing these difficult and chronic symptoms[U3] , Wagner said. Medical providers also need to be educated about survivors' lingering symptoms.--"It is acceptable for someone actively going through cancer treatment to have pain medications, but when they transition to being survivors, that acceptance goes away," Wagner said. "If they ask for pain medication again, doctors may worry that they are getting addicted." The study also pointed out the need to develop better ways to address sleep problems, fatigue and lasting difficulties with memory and concentration. Non-drug interventions for improving sleep are effective, Wagner said, and researchers need to tailor these for cancer survivors.--Exercise is the most effective weapon against cancer-related fatigue, but it's challenging to adhere to an exercise regime when you don't feel well. "We need to see how we can be more effective in promoting physical activity among survivors[U4] ," Wagner said.---Researchers also documented any treatment interventions for study participants' symptoms and then repeated an assessment of the symptoms four weeks later.--"We generally found the same severity of these symptoms one month later, suggesting they tend to be chronic," Wagner said.--The study stemmed from a 2002 National Cancer Institute meeting on pain, fatigue and depression in cancer. Participants concluded more research was needed on the prevalence of these symptoms.--The study was funded by the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group, which is funded primarily by the National Institute of Cancer.--Story Source--The above story is reprinted (with editorial adaptations by ScienceDaily staff) from materials provided by Northwestern University, via EurekAlert!, a service of AAAS.

Biology of Pain and some Remedial Elements

1.-Nociceptors (a group of Sensory Receptors located throughout the body) convert mechanical, thermal or chemical stimulations that injure or threaten the body's tissues into Nerve Impulses that generate the sensation of Pain and transmit these Nerve Impulses via the Peripheral Nervous System to Presynaptic Terminals on the Dorsal Horn of the Spinal Cord.

2.-In the Dorsal Horn of the Spinal Cord, Substance P (a Neuropeptide) is released and activates Neurons that transmit further Nerve Impulses relating to Pain to the Brain (specifically the Brain Stem and the Thalamus) via the Spinothalamic Tract and the Spinoreticular Tract.  research

3.-Norepinephrine is released from the Locus Coerulus of the Medulla and travels via descending inhibitory pathways to the Dorsal Horn where it reduces the release of Substance P (thereby inhibiting the sensation of Pain).

4.-Serotonin is released from the Raphe Nucleus of the Medulla and travels via descending inhibitory pathways to the Dorsal Horn where it reduces the release of Substance P (thereby inhibiting the sensation of Pain).

5.-Serotonin also reduces the sensation of Pain by stimulating the release of Opioids from the Medulla and the Dorsal Horn of the Spinal Cord (Opioids reduce the release of Substance P).

[U1]Crucial Observation---this means without one you cannot have the other---a gun and a bullet have either one and not the other makes the device uneventful---but put them together and you have a deadly combo---in this case the genes are triggering a response to increase sugar usage to feed a cell--Cancer

[U2]HUGE finding here-- the removal of glucose and the cells follow there normal cycle of death and life---Anyone want to reduce HFCS or now known as corn sugar--or how about maltodextrin or even Sugar or dextrose---the issue as well is what theses "sugars" or sweetners are bound to as well that may cause a triggering effect--by staying in the system longer and allowing this food to be available for cancer or other pathogens that need sugar

[U3]Managing Symptoms???? there should not be any--the reason the pain is there is the result of the side effects and build up of these waste chemcials from the treatments---there is no protocol in the medical field to chelate these chemicals out --reducing the toxic overload--the amazing thing here is that they are calling this or trying to create another health issue to present more PAIN KILLING DRUGS

[U4]This is totally absurd---the fact some one is in pain will increase activity is not going to happen if anything the inverse would be the case---any increase in lactic acid production will further the pain in the body—No one will go through any  regimen if they are in that much pain !!!!

Lawyer- Tidal wave of prop 65 claims should serve as ‘wake up call’ to industry

Many dietary supplements firms remain surprisingly clueless about controversial Californian statute Proposition 65, according to a Sacramento-based legal firm preparing to host a seminar on prop 65 compliance following a recent spike in claims.

Introduced in 1986, prop 65 requires manufacturers selling products in California to give clear warnings if their products expose consumers to any detectable amount of 800+ chemicals believed to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity.--While the legislation was not new, it had recently moved up the priority list for many firms in the supplements sector after it had found itself at the receiving end of a tidal wave of prop 65 notices filed by San Diego-based group the Environmental Research Center, said Mennemeier, Glassman & Stroud LLP partner Peg Carew Toledo.[U1] --A lot of small companies think they are OK because they are compliant with federal law, and are not aware of the risks they face under prop 65. But the spate of notices in the last few months from the ERC has acted as a real wake-up call for the sector.

I don’t think a lot of people realise that prop 65 claims are not insurable and the costs of defending them can be considerable, if not prohibitive.

You have to have a rigorous testing regime in place and if you can’t get to the prop 65 levels, you should consider not supplying your product in California or putting a warning label on it. But even avoiding California is actually quite challenging, particularly because of the growth in internet sales.”[U2]

Federal law vs California state law?--Meanwhile, legal attempts to get the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to address the conflict between prop 65 and the misleading labeling clauses in the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act had not proved successful to date, she noted.--Swanson Health Products had launched a high-profile ‘citizen’s petition’ to make the FDA clarify the legal situation in 2008 on the grounds that federal and state law conflicted “irreconcilably” and again cited the pre-emption issue in a subsequent piece of litigation, but had failed on both occasions, she said.--“It will probably come up again, but the conflict pre-emption argument is a very hard one to make.”--Meanwhile, the chances of getting the Californians to overturn or amend prop 65 were also slim given that challenging a law designed to protect consumers from carcinogens was not a vote winner,[U3]  pointed out Melissa Jones, who chairs the Proposition 65 Practice Group at legal firm Greenberg Traurig.--As for whether firms issued notices by the ERC would settle, it was hard to say, she said: “As ERC is a new plaintiff in this area, it’s hard to predict how these cases will go, but in the vast majority of cases, companies just settle because the costs and risks of going to trial are too great, especially if you are a small company.

“In fact a lot of companies are starting to consider using the warning labels. These cases are very hard to defend against.”

The Mennemeier, Glassman & Stroud seminar, which has already attracted a lot of interest from the dietary supplements industry, will be held on May 12 and will give firms practical tips on compliance.

Prop 65 is turning into legalized blackmail, warn experts as notices pile up

By Elaine Watson, 14-Apr-2011

Related topics: Regulation, Quality control

A Californian statute with the laudable aim of protecting consumers from potential carcinogens has in practice exposed even the most responsible players in the dietary supplements sector to the constant threat of ‘legalized blackmail’, legal experts have warned.

Speaking to NutraIngredients-USA.com following the recent surge in prop 65 notices filed by private plaintiffs, notably San Diego-based Environmental Research Center, Carol Brophy, special counsel at Sedgwick LLP, said: “Prop 65 might make sense in principle, but the way it is being applied in practice to the dietary supplements sector is really worrying a lot of people.”--Introduced in 1986, prop 65 requires manufacturers selling products in California to give warnings if their products expose consumers to any detectable amount of 800+ chemicals believed to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity.[U4]

Between a rock and a hard place

All the plaintiff has to do is show that the listed substance is in your product and then the burden of proof is entirely on you to prove that the level is safe – with all the associated costs – or you must put a warning on your product that says it contains ‘chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm’," explained Brophy.[U5]

And by doing that, you’re then immediately in conflict with federal food labeling laws [the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act] by putting a label on your product that could mislead consumers.---"You can either pay a huge amount of money to the plaintiff or you can misbrand your products by putting a label on them saying they could cause cancer. This is putting manufacturers between a rock and a hard place and you’ve got to wonder is this really how consumers want the law to work?”The ERC has filed more than 200 prop 65 notices to more than 100 supplement makers in recent months alleging that their products contain lead, and in some cases arsenic, and that they failed to provide legal warnings to consumers, noted Brophy.

Legalized blackmail

Private individuals that do not have any expertise in this area are effectively taking over the FDA’s role as the arbiter of safety and with the sheer number of notices being filed by individuals in the last year, many people in the industry just think it’s blackmail.

This is a law that allows private individuals that may not have even bought or used the product in question and are not answerable to anyone to sue responsible companies following GMP for years.--Osama Bin Laden could bring a case against a product provided tests had revealed a detectable level of any one of hundreds of substances, many of which occur naturally or are at trace levels.”--In the case of the vast majority of substances on the prop 65 list, ‘safe’ levels had not been officially established by the agency overseeing the law – the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA ) – while in cases where levels had been set, they were “exceedingly low” – and significantly below levels at which the ingredients in question had been demonstrated in clinical studies to cause adverse effects, she observed.

An abrogation of the FDA’s responsibility?

Meanwhile, the lack of clear guidance about how the ‘naturally occurring exemption’ clause in the legislation applied also meant this was not something firms could rely on to avoid costly legal bills, she said.--And while settlement agreements struck in the past had negotiated safe harbor levels of the listed substances in a given ingredient – eg. lead in calcium – these settlements did not necessarily stand up to subsequent legal challenges, she added.--Moreover, setting such levels for the scores of products currently being scrutinized thanks to the ERC was a logistical nightmare of epic proportions anyway, she added.

This is not the way to set policy. It’s an abrogation of the FDA’s responsibility to maintain confidence in the food supply.”

Absurdly low tolerance levels

Washington DC-based advertising and labeling attorney Ivan Wasserman said: “This is a very difficult law for manufacturers to cope with. The way the statute is set up, even responsible companies are at great risk of a challenge of some sort, and while you should prevail if you know what’s in your products it’s still going to cost you a lot of money.”

Marc Ullman, a partner at New York-based firm Ullman, Shapiro & Ullman LLP, added: “There is a real difficulty industry-wide coping with the absurdly low tolerance levels established for some substances under prop 65.--So companies have just got to be vigilant and work with ingredients suppliers to tackle heavy metal contaminants and ensure they are capable of testing to prop 65 levels.”

New Strain of MRSA Discovered: Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria Found in Both Humans and Dairy Cows

ScienceDaily (June 3, 2011) — Scientists have identified a new strain of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) which occurs both in human and dairy cow populations.---The study, led by Dr Mark Holmes at the University of Cambridge, identified the new strain in milk from dairy cows while researching mastitis (a bacterial infection which occurs in the cows' udders).---The new strain's genetic makeup differs greatly from previous strains, which means that the 'gold standard' molecular tests currently used to identify MRSA -- a polymerase chain reaction technique (PCR) and slide agglutination testing -- do not detect this new strain. The research findings are published in the journal The Lancet Infectious Diseases.---Dr Laura García-Álvarez, first author of the paper, who discovered the new strain while a PhD student at the University of Cambridge's Veterinary School, said: "To find the same new strain in both humans and cows is certainly worrying. However, pasteurization of milk will prevent any risk of infection via the food chain.[U1]  Workers on dairy farms may be at higher risk of carrying MRSA, but we do not yet know if this translates into a higher risk of infection. In the wider UK community, less than 1% of individuals carry MRSA -- typically in their noses -- without becoming ill."[U2]  The scientists discovered the antibiotic resistant strain while researching S. aureus, a bacterium known to cause bovine mastitis. Despite the strain being able to grow in the presence of antibiotics, when they attempted to use the standard molecular tests available -- which work by identifying the presence of the gene responsible for methicillin resistance (the mecA gene) -- the tests came back negative for MRSA.---When Dr Matt Holden and a research team at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute sequenced the entire genome (decoding all of the genes in the bacteria's DNA) they realised that the new strain possessed unconventional DNA for MRSA. They found that the new strain does have a mecA gene but with only 60% similarity to the original mecA gene. Unfortunately, this results in molecular tests (which identify MRSA by the presence of the mecA gene) giving a false negative for this strain of MRSA.---Subsequent research revealed that the new strain was also present in humans. During the study, the new strain was found in samples from Scotland, England and Denmark (some from screening tests and others from people with MRSA disease). It has since been identified in Ireland and Germany. Additionally, by testing archived S. aureus samples, the researchers have also identified a recent upward trend in the prevalence of the antibiotic resistant bacteria.---Dr Mark Holmes said: "The majority of MRSA testing in British hospitals is performed by seeing if the bacteria will grow in the presence of antibiotics, typically oxacillin and cefoxitin, rather than methicillin -- which is now no longer manufactured. This type of testing detects both the new MRSA and conventional MRSA.--"However, it is important that any of the MRSA testing that is based on detection of the mecA gene -- i.e. PCR based testing, or slide agglutination testing -- be upgraded to ensure that the tests detect the new mecA gene found in the new MRSA. We have already been working with public health colleagues in the UK and Denmark to ensure that testing in these countries now detects the new MRSA."--The new research also raises questions about whether cows could be a reservoir for the new strains of MRSA.--Dr Holmes added: "Although there is circumstantial evidence that dairy cows are providing a reservoir of infection, it is still not known for certain if cows are infecting people, or people are infecting cows. This is one of the many things we will be looking into next.--[U3] "Although our research suggests that the new MRSA accounts for a small proportion of MRSA -- probably less than 100 isolations per year in the UK, it does appear that the numbers are rising. The next step will be to explore how prevalent the new strain actually is and to track where it is coming from. If we are ever going to address the problem with MRSA, we need to determine its origins."--Scientists at the Health Protection Agency (HPA) co-authored this paper, providing the analysis of the human samples of the new strain. Dr Angela Kearns, head of the HPA's Staphylococcus Reference Laboratory said: "There are numerous strains of MRSA circulating in the UK and the rest of Europe. Even though this new strain is not picked up by the current molecular tests, they do still remain effective for the detection of over 99 per cent of MRSAs. This new strain can be picked up by another type of test, which has shown to be effective in trials in the UK and elsewhere in Europe.---"This is a very interesting find and the HPA is currently involved in further research to screen a wider population of MRSA samples to ascertain how prevalent it is. It's important to remember MRSA is still treatable with a range of antibiotics and the risk of becoming infected with this new strain is very low."---With funding from the Medical Research Council, the researchers will next be undertaking prevalence surveys in people and in dairy cattle in the UK to determine how much new MRSA is present in these populations. They will also be performing an epidemiological study on farms to identify any factors that may be associated with infection by the new MRSA, to look for further new MRSA strains, and to explore the potential risks of the new strain to farm workers.

Sodium thiosulfate—info can also be found at http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/sodium_thiosulfate.html

Recipe--¼ tsp in 1 lite of water and use

09/16/2007: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "Sodium thiosulfate is a common dechlorinator used to remove chlorine from drinking water. It is also a well known antidote for cyanide poisoning where the sodium thiosulfate reacts with cyanide to form sodium thiocyanate. Some people who take too much apricot pits (cancer treatment) have a weak form of cyanide poisoning and found it helpful to add the sodium thiosulfate drops to reduced its side effect when they used the apricot pits, which is high in vitamin B17 or sometimes take apple seeds also somewhat high B17 to treat themselves of cancer or other immunity problems.--They have reported to me that the side effects were reduced from taking too much apricot pits, and caused them to be to nauseated, but when sodium thiosulfate drops are taken, no nausea effects from too much apricot pits is seen. Apparently the extra cyanide, if it were to exist in excess, reacted with sodium thiosulfate to form sodium thiocyanate, where the body can get rid of them quickly, but I also suspect that the sodium thiocyanate may have some antiviral, anti-cancer properties, perhaps only a tiny amount from eating apricot pits and the thiosulfate reduced effect, but its reacted components may have the same properties nonetheless. I would therefore imagine that the thiocyanate is less toxic than the apricot pits but also reduces the side effects by allowing the body to rid of them easier.--For me I used sodium thiosulfate to get rid of certain heavy metals, and accumulation of oxidative chemicals in the liver, as the sodium thiosulfate is a good reducing agent (reduces free radicals), but it is also a laxative in some respects, at least only initially in detoxification.---Most people are not aware that sodium thiosulfate is a common dechlorinator used in fish tanks, drinking water and swimming pool water, and sometimes a low amount of can be found in natural hot springs water, but they do have trace sodium sulfide too, which is why it can used to treat skin problems and some to bathe in it to relieved them of skin problems, rheumatism, although indirectly.--In other cases I used s.t. to help with sleep, as the reducing agent, especially the thiosulfate form of reducing agents helps with the sleep.--A thiosulfate form can form a weak sulfide compound which is also a component that works synergistically with the body's available nitrites to help to small extent anyway in controlling blood pressure or extend its effect for some people who take nitroglycerine tablets to treat both heart problems and high blood pressure. The effect is seen to last longer.--In my personal observation a bicarbonate formula, in alkaline form mixed with a very tiny amount of sodium nitrites works the same way based on my experiment as both the nitrogylcerine and the sodium nitrite degrades to nitric oxide in presence of organic acids. Interestingly, if the body were already suffering the acidosis conditions from lack of bicarbonates, the nitric oxide, which is the major component in controlling the body's blood pressure, does not degrade, and is more effective in killing of microbes, where its waste product, and the microbe itself are rich in organic acid. The sodium nitrite, produced by the body's own glial cells located in the brain, would degrade to nitric oxide, burning the acid forming bacteria, viruses and other microbes, much like burning them alive.--The sodium thiosulfate is also used as a photographic fixer, known as "Hypo" to prevent the chemicals of photographs from further getting dark and fix the pictures, much like a preservative, from preventing the pictures to be developed from further chemical oxidation.---It has been used it in the past to help sleep as well as to help concentration in event of ADHD, children's hyperactivity, and temper tantrums, and have worked remarkably well especially when a child of hyperactivity, is used to treat glutamine (amino acid) to help detoxify ammonia, and helped with brain development, is used in combination with sodium thiosulfate to reduced the resultant temporary hyperactivity that resulted from glutamine use. When those are used in combination, I have noted to cause a child to improve in leaps and bounds, which can be used for ADHD, hyperactivity, autism, and even emotional disturbances. For me, I also used s.t. as an anti-depressant and anxiety problems as well. At least for me anyway, the sodium thiosulfate has wide use, because of its unique properties as a reductant agent, it reduces free radicals, and reduces the liver accumulating actions of oxidative chemicals, where it is most dramatic as a treatment for cyanide poisoning. Still its everyday use is seen in fish aquariums and a dechlorinator for both drinking water and in use of swimming pools. In my opinion, people who used public bath cause their body to accumulate excess chlorine, the people who sells chlorine knows how much a human body uptake chlorine, which is quite a bit, but also does damages to the body. As a result, some people, like me for example, might after exposure to too much chlorinated water, will use the sodium thiosulfate solution to rinse by body of excess chlorine and perhaps some drops of sodium thiosulfate taken internally. Chickens and livestocks cannot use chlorinated water to chickens and pigs, as chlorinated water causes stunting of growth in pigs and chickens. At least in the case of chickens drinking water chlorinated in the farm, the biopsy of chicken were shown to have heart disease, and perhaps this line of chlorinated water used can be extended to human use as well. Of course human water, with chlorine and fluorine uses, is quite toxic to animals, and it is part of the many reasons why humans get sick. I imagine that the sodium thiosulfate to have much more wider use in the distant future and I have only begin to touch only just a small part of this, and not just its ability to remove heavy metals, chlorine, toxic compounds, excess cyanide, its anti-anxiety, anti-depressant effect, promotes sleep, is a laxative, used as a skin problems such as eczmea, and many other applications, I simply can't remember. There was one case of a child who reportedly got fat from swimming in a chlorinated water too long (for about a month) as the oxidative effect of chlorine tend to do that, and well at least help reduce those effect and at the very least, reduce being bloated, as the sodium thiosulfate would react with the excess blood chlorine to form a simple trace amounts of saline solution in very minute amounts instead of a more toxic chlorine.---The sodium thiosulfate is also used as a common remedy to reduce the side effects which causes deafness in some people from chemotherapy. But in my opinion, the free radicals also generated during x ray therapies, such as CAT scans can reduced such side effects just the same. I had a friend of mine who got a terrible headaches after getting her teeth x-rayed and took both vitamin C and sodium thiosulfate. Those two things stopped the headaches (and hopefully the radiation damages to her brain) the same day. It's probably the antioxidant effects from both the vitamin C and the sodium thiosulfate.--All this information I am telling is really old information (about 30+ years ago)

A Summary of Uses

It is used as an antidote to cyanide poisoning.[4][5] Thiosulfate acts as a sulfur donor for the conversion of cyanide to thiocyanate (which can then be safely excreted in the urine), catalyzed by the enzyme rhodanase.

It has also been used as treatment of calciphylaxis in hemodialysis patients with end-stage renal disease.[6]

It is used in the management of extravasations during chemotherapy. Sodium thiosulfate prevents alkylation and tissue destruction by providing a substrate for the alkylating agents that have invaded the subcutaneous tissues. The dose may be 2mL of 0.17M (a solution of 4mL 10% sodium thiosulfate and 6mL sterile water for injection). It may be instilled subcutaneously into multiple sites using a small gauge needle. There is limited data on this method with few recommendations.[citation needed]

in foot baths for prophylaxis of ringworm, and as a topical antifungal agent for tinea versicolor.

in measuring the volume of extracellular body fluid and the renal glomerular filtration rate. [7

China gets human milk from cows

Genetically modified cows in
China are producing human breast milk. No bull. The Chinese hope to start selling the new milk within three years. Will you grab a straw?-- Chinese scientists have managed to get cows to produce human milk, and may have the new brew in China's grocery stores in three years.--A herd of 300 cows has been genetically modified (GM), and once the government is sure it's safe, more cows will be bred with the ability to produce human milk.--The Chinese are on a slippery slope, riding herd with the ethical brakes shut off.---A Chinese scientist quoted in news reports suggests the new cow-human milk will help feed hungry people, calling the modification of the cows "our duty[U1] ," but it's not clear how a GM cow will create more milk than a standard cow. If both produce a litre of milk for human consumption, what makes a GM cow better?---The developers in Beijing claim the new GM milk has the same immune-boosting and antibacterial qualities as breast milk[U2] . I'd like to see an independent test please. After all, this is a country where suppliers watered down milk and then added melamine to pass "quality control" tests, resulting in illness and death. An unhealthy history calls for healthy skepticism.--If the GM milk can feed the hungry better than standard cows' milk, what will the scientists really have accomplished? Taken to its logical conclusion, the developers are saying that if nature can't keep people alive, we alter nature.--- --Science has made advances that have improved agriculture, generally through gentle adaptation. Farmers use the seeds from the best plants for the next planting season, making future crop generations stronger. [U3] When scientists spliced together peaches and plums, they developed the nectarine. Big industry has developed grains more resistant to insects or --extremes of weather[U4] .So where to draw the line when it comes to tinkering with Mother Nature?--A clear boundary exists when it comes to living, breathing things like mammals.---When mankind develops a new animal, we risk both genetic contributors.-What if it turns out the new cows ingest a bacteria or disease and alter its basic design, thereby creating a new problem for science? Unlikely as it may be, we're dealing with many unknowns--Some people won't drink regular cows' milk as a matter of conscience; cows produce the milk for their young and people redirect it to the human food supply chain. The milk-free among us are starting to look saner by the minute. And the possibility of human genes being part of our food chain will put more people off their lunch.[U5]

Special Note this could be construed as a form of cannibalism!!!

Below is a dandy shot of chemicals being sprayed on when else but Earth Day!!   In essence, they've been manipulating weather for decades and stepping it up considerably.   Of course with media owned, a monster cover-up continues.   If you ask why would they do this -- something many of us have asked in the past -- it's twofold!   There's tons of money to be made in the new green technology/industry emerging but more importantly -- global governance via UN.   Create a worldwide problem . . then they can come in and say there must be a global government to manage the entire process of weather control -- i.e., geo-engineering.   Geo-engineering is now funded in the billions!

Forwarding you, "What in the World Are They Spraying?"  movie trailer and some HAARP info.   They admit to HAARP -- which is Nikola Tesla's technology -- stolen from him and made into a not-so-nice technology which disrupts weather (they can trigger earthquakes, create hurricanes, tornadoes, volcanos, drought, floods -- basically steer weather into catastrophes) which they ARE doing.  They'll then say they must have geo-engineering to solve our terrible weather problems . . using "weather disruption" as the phrase!    The fact is, they're causing the disruption.  The world's waking up as you'll see by the many who comment on the blogs/sites attached.   Hope I haven't unnerved you but then you said you know someone who's lost a multi-million dollar home because of the recent fire.  Hundreds of rain storms are sabotaged systematically  :)    Just watch the sky -- mega tons of aluminum is dropped into to dry up moisture!    They also dump barium (destroys our T Cells which protect us from cancer).

Navy Research Paper: ‘Disrupt Economies’ with Man-Made ‘Floods,’ ‘Droughts’

A recently-unearthed U.S. Navy research project calls for creating mad-made floods and droughts to "disrupt [the] economy" of an enemy state. --"Weather modification was used successfully in Viet Nam to (among other things) hinder and impede the movement of personnel and material from North Viet Nam to South Viet Nam," notes a Naval Air Warfare Weapons Division – China Lake research proposal, released last month through the Freedom of Information Act.  But "since that time military research on Weather Modification has dwindled in the United States."--The proposal suggests a study of the latest weather manipulation techniques, to "give the U.S. military a viable, state-of-the-art weather modification

(2) To disrupt economy due to the effect of floods, droughts, etc.

The proposal is undated.  But it’s pretty clearly from the Cold War.
Not only is "the Soviet Union (Russia)" mentioned.  The money is also relatively small, by today’s standards — less than a half-million dollars, over two years.   ---A military in-house newspaper calls  "weather modification" an "area of China Lake preeminence.   Between 1949 and 1978, China Lake developed concepts, techniques, and hardware that were successfully used in hurricane abatement, fog control, and drought relief. Military application of this technology was demonstrated in 1966 when Project
Popeye
was conducted to enhance rainfall to help interdict traffic on the Ho Chi Minh Trail."  (Here’s a picture of China Lake’s "Cold Cloud Modification System."---In 1980, the United States ratified a treaty banning military weather manipulation.   But every once in a while, someone in the armed forces floats the idea of doing it again.  "Our vision is that by 2025 the military could influence the weather on a mesoscale [theater-wide] or microscale [immediate local area] to achieve operational capabilities," a 1996 Air Force-commissioned study reads. ---Today, Chinese officials are trying to figure out ways to keep it from raining over Beiing, during this summer’s Olympics.

Amino Acid Supplement Makes Mice Live Longer

ScienceDaily (Oct. 5, 2010) — When mice are given drinking water laced with a special concoction of amino acids, they live longer than your average mouse, according to a new report in the October issue of Cell Metabolism, a Cell Press publication. The key ingredients in the supplemental mixture are so-called branched-chain amino acids, which account for 3 of the 20 amino acids (specifically leucine, isoleucine, and valine) that are the building blocks of proteins.---"This is the first demonstration that an amino acid mixture can increase survival in mice," said Enzo Nisoli of Milan University in Italy, noting that researchers last year showed that leucine, isoleucine, and valine extend the life span of single-celled yeast.--In the new study, the researchers gave middle-aged, male mice extra branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) in their drinking water. The animals were otherwise healthy and eating standard mouse chow.--Animals that were given the extra amino acids over a period of months lived longer, with a median life span of 869 days compared to 774 days for untreated control animals, the researchers report. That's an increase of 12 percent.---Those survival gains were accompanied by an increase in mitochondria in cardiac and skeletal muscles. Mitochondria are the cellular components responsible for powering cells. The supplement-fed mice also showed increased activity of SIRT1, a well-known longevity gene, and of the defense system that combats free radicals. They therefore showed fewer signs of oxidative damage.--The benefits of the amino acid supplements appear similar to those earlier ascribed to calorie restriction, Nisoli said.---Treated animals also showed improvements in their exercise endurance and in motor coordination, the researchers report. (It is important to note that the animals in the current study were all male, Nisoli said. They plan to test the effects in females in future studies.)--The findings in older mice suggest that the supplementary mixture may be specifically beneficial for those who are elderly or ill. "It may not be useful in young people or body builders," who are already in good condition, he said. But it might be a useful preventive strategy, he added, emphasizing that the mice they studied "were just aged, not sick."--Nisoli emphasized that consuming amino acid supplements is different from consuming proteins containing those amino acids. That's because they do not have to be digested, and can enter the bloodstream immediately. "They come with no energy cost."---He suspects that BCAA nutritional supplements may prove to be particularly helpful for people with heart failure, the muscle-wasting condition known as sarcopenia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or other conditions characterized by energy defects. In fact, there are already some small studies in human to support that idea and BCAA supplements are already available for purchase in several countries, including Italy.--The challenge, Nisoli says, will be convincing clinicians that these supplements might be a benefit to their patients. He says a large clinical trial is needed, but there is little incentive for companies to do such trials for dietary supplements as opposed to drugs.

Overall, Nisoli said the new work supports a "general philosophy of a nutritional approach to disease, aging, and problems of energy status."The researchers include Giuseppe D'Antona, Pavia University, Pavia, Italy; Maurizio Ragni, Milan University, Milan, Italy; Annalisa Cardile, Milan University, Milan, Italy; Laura Tedesco, Milan University, Milan, Italy, Brescia University, Brescia, Italy; Marta Dossena, Milan University, Milan, Italy, Brescia University, Brescia, Italy; Flavia Bruttini, Pavia University, Pavia, Italy; Francesca Caliaro, Pavia University, Pavia, Italy; Giovanni Corsetti, Brescia University, Brescia, Italy; Roberto Bottinelli, Pavia University, Pavia, Italy; Michele O. Branch Chain Amino Acids

ØØØThere are 3 amino acids that make a branch chain…they are Isoleucine, Leucine, and Valine.---

Isoleucine does in the body: for hemoglobin formation and stabilizes sugar, it metabolizes into muscle, and is used by the body for energy and repairing of muscle tissue. It is also used for endurance and enhances energy. Isoleucine is utilizing both fat and carbohydrates, where as vlaine specifically utilizes carbs and leucine to fats. Defiency in isoleucine is shown in muscle tremors. Oral isoleucine loading 10 grams elevated 15 times above normal, it is found that it more absorbable  the the other 2 aminos. It is metabolize by either carbs or fat.

Leucine does in the body: leucine is one to promote growth hormone in the body, lowers blood sugar levels in the body, leucine stimulates insulin release, which in turn stimulates protein synthesis, and INHIBITS PROTEIN BREAKDOWN , it also  is used in the REUTILIZATION OF PROTEIN in the ORGANS. Leucine metabolic pathway is solely fat.

Valine does in the body: valine is found in high levels in muscle tissue, it is a key amino in nitrogen balancing and muscle repair. It has a stimulating effect, and is used for muscle metabolism, it is also used for liver ailments. Valines metabolic route is strictly carbohydrates (utilizes carbs)10 grams of valine elevated blood levels 6 times normal, valine raised growth hormone to ten times normal., it also converts to glucose.

ùSo if you are Diabetic—Heart and Organ issues the use of these Branch Chain may assist in Stabilizing the condition and assist in the recovery from these conditions

Edible RFID Tracking Chips in Footh and choices.

Scientists push to implement edible RFID tracking chips in food

It will monitor your calorie intake, show from where your food was sourced, and even let you know when the food in your fridge is about to go bad -- these are some of the enticing claims made by the developers of a new system that embeds edible radio frequency identification (RFID) chips directly into food. Its creators insist the technology will revolutionize the way humans eat for the better, but critical-thinking onlookers will recognize the ploy as just another way to track and control human behavior.---Developed by Hannes Harms from the Royal College of Art in London, the "NutriSmart" system is based on the idea that RFID wafers injected directly into food can help better track the food supply chain, further automate the supermarket shopping experience, and simplify the eating experience by
programming data into food so that humans essentially do not have to think about what they are doing.---
[U6] The technology makes both eating and dealing with food in general mindless, as a person simply needs to plop an RFID-embedded food item onto a special RFID-laced plate, which then tells the person all about the item and how much of it to eat.[U7]  RFID ovens and microwaves also eliminate having to think about how long to cook an RFID food item -- simply put it in the RFID microwave, oven, or toaster, and the machine will know exactly how long to cook the item.---As interesting and novel as this might sound, such technology is actually quite frightening when taken to its logical ends. There has been warnings that mad scientists have already developed edible RFID tags for use in pharmaceuticals. These tags, of course, can and will likely be used to monitor patients' compliance with doctors orders, and alert authorities if a patient refuses to take certain pills as prescribed.---[U8]  And if such technology also ends up in food, it is safe to assume that powerful institutions such as Drug companies and agro businesses will seek to control the food supply with it, as well as monitor the types of food people eat. In other words, if authorities one day decide that vitamin and mineral supplements are off limits, which is what is currently happening in Europe, it is plausible that RFID technology can assess illegal intake of such nutrients, and immediately send this data to the appropriate enforcement agencies.---[U9] The Drama  -- it is unfolding before our eyes just a little bit more every single day. And the NutriSmart system is just another piece of evidence that those in power wish to micromanage every single aspect of our lives, from the drugs we take to the foods we eat.

Elderberry juice seized at winery in Mulvane

U.S. marshals have seized elderberry juice concentrate products distributed by a Mulvane area-based company because a federal agency said the products make false claims about prevention and treatment of diseases.--The Food and Drug Administration said Friday that Wyldewood Cellars has been distributing products that are non approved and misbranded drugs. [U10] Wyldewood claims that its elderberry juice concentrate cures, treats or prevents various diseases such as AIDS, diabetes and flu, according to the FDA complaint. [U11] But John Brewer, who co-founded the business in 1994, said Wyldewood doesn't make any such claims.--"This is a matter of the attorneys talking to each other, find out what the complaint is and we'll fix it," Brewer said.--Marshals came to Wyldewood's main distribution center near Mulvane on Wednesday and moved all the elderberry juice concentrates to a back room.--"They put some stickers on it saying we can't touch it," Brewer said. Barry Grissom, U.S. Attorney for Kansas, said that Wyldewood was first notified in 2006 in a warning letter that its claims for the medicinal powers of elderberry juice are unproven and violate federal law.[U12]  Wyldewood responded by promising to remove all such claims from its websites, the FDA said. But the FDA said it discovered during subsequent inspections that the company continues to make the same claims.--Brewer said the company did receive that warning letter and the issue was over labeling. A consultant familiar with FDA regulations was hired by Wyldewood to make changes so the label reflected that the product was being sold as a supplement. "We haven't heard anything from (the FDA) since," he said. "They've been in our facility multiple times. "It's like, 'C'mon guys, we changed our label, we changed everything we thought we were supposed to do.' And then they show up and so this. " (Supplements) seems to be one of their hot buttons these days."

The FDA filed its complaint against the company May 27.

"Products with unapproved disease claims are dangerous because they may cause consumers to delay or avoid legitimate treatments," [U13] Dara Corrigan, FDA's associate commissioner for regulator affairs, said in a statement. There are no claims by the FDA that drinking the elderberry juice concentrate causes any health concerns, said Jim Cross, a spokesman for Grissom. Wyldewood has retail stores in west Wichita, Lawrence, Paxico and St. Joseph, Ill. FDA hasn't sought to seize any of the products except for those at the facility near Mulvane, Cross said. Wyldewood produces more than 40 types of Kansas wine, according to the company's website. Reach Rick Plumlee at 316-268-6660 or rplumlee@wichitaeagle.com.

Genesis 1:29

Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food."

Foods Containing B17 (Nitrilosides)

Vitamin B17 appears in abundance in untamed nature. Because B17 is bitter to the taste, in man's attempt to improve tastes and flavors for his own pleasure, he has eliminated bitter substances like B17 by selection and cross-breeding. It can be stated as a general rule that many of the foods that have been domesticated still contain the vitamin B17 in that part not eaten by modem man, such as the seeds in apricots. Listed below is an evaluation of some of the more common foods. Keep in mind that these are averages only and that specimens vary widely depending on variety, locale, soil, and climate. Vitamin B-17 is one of the main sources of food in cultures such as the Eskimos, the Hunzas, the Abkasians and many more. Did you know that within these tribes there has never been a reported case of cancer? According to Dr. Krebs, we need a minimum of 100 mg of vitamin B-17 (the equivalent of about seven apricots seeds) too nearly guarantee a cancer free life. Foods that contain vitamin B-17 are as follows:

http://www.b17.com.au/img/bullet.gif

KERNELS OR SEEDS OF FRUIT: The highest concentration of vitamin B-17 to be found in nature, aside from bitter almonds. Apple, apricot, cherry, nectarine, peach, pear, plum, prune.

http://www.b17.com.au/img/bullet.gif

BEANS: broad (Vicia faba), burma, chickpeas, lentils (sprouted), lima, mung (sprouted), Rangoon, scarlet runner.

http://www.b17.com.au/img/bullet.gif

NUTS: Bitter almond, macadamia, cashew.

http://www.b17.com.au/img/bullet.gif

BERRIES: Almost all wild berries. Blackberry, chokeberry, Christmas berry, cranberry, elderberry, raspberry, strawberry.

http://www.b17.com.au/img/bullet.gif

SEEDS: Chia, flax, sesame.

http://www.b17.com.au/img/bullet.gif

GRASSES: Acacia, alfalfa (sprouted), aquatic, Johnson, milkweed, Sudan, minus, wheat grass, white dover.

http://www.b17.com.au/img/bullet.gif

GRAINS: oat groats, barley, brown rice, buckwheat groats, chia, flax, millet, rye, vetch, wheat berries.

http://www.b17.com.au/img/bullet.gif

MISCELLANEOUS: bamboo shoots, fuschia plant, sorghum, wild hydrangea, yew tree (needles, fresh leaves).

Two rules of thumb: According to Dr. Krebs, the basic concept is that sufficient daily B-17 may be obtained by following either of two suggestions:

First, eating all the B-17-containing fruits whole (seeds included), but not eating more of the seeds by themselves than you would be eating if you ate them in the whole fruit. Example: if you eat three apples a day, the seeds in the three apples are sufficient B-17. You would not eat a pound of apple seeds.---Second, one peach or apricot kernel per 10 lbs of body weight is believed to be more than sufficient as a normal safeguard in cancer prevention, although precise numbers may vary from person to person in accordance with individual metabolism and dietary habits. A 170-lb man, for example, might consume 17 apricot or peach kernels per day and receive a biologically reasonable amount of Vitamin B-17.---And two important notes: Certainly, you can consume too much of anything. Too many kernels or seeds, for example, can be expected to produce unpleasant side effects. These natural foods should be consumed in biologically rational amounts (no more than 30 to 35 kernels per day).---High concentrations of B-17 are obtained by eating the natural foods in their raw or sprouting stage. This does not mean that moderate cooking and other tampering will destroy the B-17 content. Foods cooked at a temperature sufficient for a Chinese dinner, for example, will not lose their B-17 content.

Peru Approves 10 Year Ban On GM Crops, Brazil Speeds Up Approvals

Submitted by Lois Rain on June 9, 2011 – 10:31 pm No Comment

Bolivia is the main land standing between Peru and a Roundup-Ready Paraguay. Despite South American territories jumping on the GM crop bandwagon, Peru has issued a 10-year moratorium on all GM planting in an effort to preserve their biodiversity. This temporary ban includes prevention of GMO imports, cultivation, breeding and production Some UN legislators opposed the ban, concluding that GM food is already consumed and can cover food needs better as the sales are greater than organic[U1] . Meanwhile, Brazil’s vote to approve commercial application of a GM bean variety is expected shortly. Without much testing or proof of crop worth, the idea is to speed up evaluations and approvals, in an attempt to resist golden mosaic virus. A couple weeks ago, HFA reported on the deaths and sickness resulting from the vast unhindered spraying in Paraguay and other parts of South America. With soy becoming a lucrative “green gold” crop and apparent economy booster, it’s a relief to see Peru taking a stand.

1.PLENARY SESSION OF THE CONGRESS APPROVED MORATORIUM OF
TEN YEARS FOR THE ENTRANCE OF TRANSGENIC

SUMMARY: “The Plenary Session of the Congress, approved the opinion of the law project that declares a moratorium of ten years that prevents the import of Genetically Modified Organisms on the national territory for cultivation, breeding or of any transgenic production.”

Lima, jun. 07 (ANDINA). The Plenary Session of the Congress, approved the opinion of the law project that declares a moratorium of ten years that prevents the import of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) on the national territory for cultivation, breeding or of any transgenic production. It was sustained by the president of the Agrarian Commission, Aníbal Huerta (PAP), who declared that in the face of the danger that can arise from the use of the biotechnology a moratorium must be approved to take care of our biodiversity. It received the endorsement of congressmen Elizabeth Leon (BPCD), Franklin Sanchez (PAP), Mauritius Mulder (PAP), Oswaldo Luizar (BPCD), Jorge of Castillo (PAP), Oswaldo de la Cruz (GPF), Luis Wilson (PAP), Yonhy Lescano (AP), Aldo Estrada (UPP), Hilda Guevara (PAP), Gloria Branches (BPDC) and Maria Sumire (GPN). From different viewpoints, they agreed in the defense of the national biodiversity due to our greater climatic diversity, but they differed with regard to the moratorium. Congressman Alejandro Rebaza (PAP), made some precisions to the opinion and, like the colleagues Sanchez and Estrada, proposed a technical commission of prevention and investigation that issues a report in two years. The legislators Raul Castro (UN) and Juan Carlos Eguren (UN) expressed themselves against the moratorium, because they considered that already we consumed transgenic products and that the doors to biotechnology could not be closed because the transgenic production, that is necessary for covering the food needs, has 70% more sale than the organic production[U2] . The parliamentarian José Saldaña (AN) remembered that the biologists have asked to file the project in debate because already exists a law on the matter, whereas legislator Yaneth Cajahuanca (GPN) suggested to leave the project for the next session. On the other hand, congressmen Luis Giampietri (PAP) and Édgard Núñez (PAP) said that it is not possible to close the doors to science and that it is possible to decided on a prudential moratorium of five years. Finally, the president of the Commission of Andean Towns, Washington Zeballos (BPCD), informed on the modifications to the opinion and that the term of the moratorium would have to be of ten years. The proposal was approved by 56 votes to favor, zero against and two abstentions and exonerated from second voting by 50 votes to favor, four against and three abstentions. The approved norm establishes a moratorium of ten years, determines as competent authority of the subject to the Ministry of the Environemnt and creates a Technical Commission of Evaluation and Prevention of Risks of Use of GMOs, that in two years will have to issue a report on the subject.

2.Brazilian commission changes its internal statutes to speed up approval of GM crops and hasten the release of modified beans
Update from the GM-Free Brazil Campaign
Brazil | Rio de Janeiro | June 07 2011

On May 17th a public hearing was held in Brasilia to discuss an application for commercial release of the first genetically modified bean variety. Beans are part of Brazil’s staple diet, consumed daily by most of the population. The new variety was developed by Embrapa (the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation) for resistance to the golden mosaic virus and is already just waiting for commercial authorization from CTNBio (National Biosafety Technical Commission, the official body responsible for evaluating and authorizing GM crops).---The hearing was held at the head offices of Embrapa itself, the state company making the application. This unprecedented event raised the prospect of CTNBio adopting the procedure of ‘consulting society’ at the premises of all applicant companies, with, who knows, the next hearing being held at Monsanto’s head office. The president of CTNBio, Edilson Paiva, claimed they had been unable to find another auditorium available in Brasilia, hence the choice.--The representative for the NGO Terra de Direitos questioned the confidentiality granted to various sections of Embrapa’s report. CTNBio withheld more information than the areas requested by the company, a fact likely to hinder monitoring of the product’s impacts after its commercial release. In this case access to all the data was denied even to the member of the Commission responsible for reporting on the evaluation process.---Field studies were undertaken in just three localities over a two-year period. Interpreted generously this mean that the environmental impacts of the technology were tested in two biomes at most. Brazil’s legislation requires studies to be undertaken in all biomes where the modified plant might be grown. As the Terra de Direitos representative pointed out, Embrapa is applying for unrestricted release of the new GM bean variety throughout the country, despite the lack of adequate data.---AS-PTA’s representative also questioned the absence of data on the potential impacts of genetic modification on the common bean varieties already consumed in Brazil. All the tests were carried out on a single type of bean, rather than those consumed in the country on a daily basis. At the same time, various parts of Embrapa’s report themselves state that the test results vary according to the type of bean receiving the transgene. Despite these tests not being conducted, the application is for release of the GM variety for subsequent incorporation into other bean plants.

Even more revealingly, only two of the 22 transgenic events generated for resistance to the mosaic virus actually worked. As the evaluation report states, it remains unknown why these produced the expected results while the other 20 events did not. Indeed the report concludes that more studies are needed to understand the transgene in question. In other words, when in doubt, release it. This abandonment of the Precautionary Principle was highlighted at the hearing by AS-PTA.

The representative from CONSEA (the National Nutritional and Food Security Council) stressed that the human right to healthy and adequate food will be achieved through agroecology, not through the development of GM seeds. He cited experiments run by Embrapa over an eight-year period that showed considerable success in controlling the bean plant mosaic virus through organic farming methods and without any loss of productivity.---------CTNBio approves changes to rules to speed up commercial releases---------The day after the public hearing on the GM bean application, the monthly meeting of CTNBio also began in Brasilia. Opening the plenary session, the Secretary of Research and Development Policies and Programs of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Carlos Nobre, emphasized the importance of the Commission’s work and the need for risk evaluation to be based on the Precautionary Principle, much to the incredulity of many of those listening to him. As soon as the Secretary left the plenary session, the president of CTNBio announced that the vote would be taken on changing the body’s statutes. But after hearing the first question, he immediately announced that the process would be sped up to avoid the ‘obstruction principle.’---------The regulations were set to be altered at the meeting following a court ruling that obliged CTNBio to introduce more transparent procedures and allow access to the information received for evaluation, except for data covered confidential business information.---------The members of the Commission used the chance to alter the statutes to approve changes to the ritual of the evaluation process. They shortened the evaluation periods, meaning that GMOs releases will be even quicker in practice, reinforcing CTNBio’s image as a rubber-stamping institution that has so far never refused a request for commercial release.[U3] ---The vote to approve the release of GM beans is set to take place shortly.

Stevia is a perennial shrub, the extracts of which have been used for

centuries as a safe, natural sweetener by people in Paraguay and Brazil. Stevia is 200 to 300 times sweeter than sugar.  After great pressure by

consumers the FDA finally approved it only as a dietary supplement and

lifted the embargo.  The FDA with strong loyalties to Monsanto actually

forbid this food source to come into the country.  Zolton P. Rona, M.D.,

MSc said in Health Naturally, August/Sept l996:  "In l991, the FDA banned

stevia imports for use in foods, reportedly at the request of an aspartame

manufacturer. That says it all -  it appears the FDA and Monsanto do not

want competition with their neurotoxin, NutraSweet.  -- In a letter to Dr. Kesslser of the FDA  from William R. Pendergast (Arent Fox Kintner Plotkin & Kahn)  dated October 21, l991 about Stevia, he said:"American Herbal Products Association believes that FDA's position is incorrect in that stevia leaf is not a food additive within the meaning of Sec. 201 (s), 21 U.S.C. 321 (s) because it is exempt from that definition by reason of its "common use in food" prior to l958.  For that reason, FDA approval pursuant to Sec 409, 21 U.S.C. 348 of the Act is not required and,

indeed, AGPA does not seek such approval here.  AHPA seeks only FDA's acquiescence in the marketing of stevia containing foods in interstate commerce, such acquiescence based upon the facts, data and legal issues as presented herein."  The sad thing is that Stevia is a wonderful herb that helps in the metabolism of sugar, and has been used to aid diabetics; and it doesn't keep blood sugar out of control.  On the other hand, aspartame is a deadly neurotoxin, a drug that interacts with other drugs, and precipitates diabetes.  Monsanto funds the American Diabetic Association and American Dietetic Association who even admit that Monsanto (NutraSweet) writes their material.  Aspartame is a molecule composed of three components, aspartic acid, phenylalanine and methanol (wood alcohol).  Methanol converts to formaldehyde and formic acid and causes metabolic acidosis.  The phenylalanine in aspartame at 50% lowers the seizure threshold of the brain and depletes serotonin.  Phenylalanine and aspartic acid are two of three amino acids that cannot be isolated from the other amino acids in protein and go beyond the blood brain barrier causing brain damage of varying degrees.  H. J. Roberts, M.D., Board Certified and Recertified Internist (and diabetic specialist) has now declared Aspartame to be a Disease and Worldwide epidemic.  He says that in diabetics aspartame destroys the optic nerve, keeps blood sugar out of control and causes patients to sometimes go into convulsions.  By the FDA's own report, aspartame triggers 92 documented symptoms from four types of seizures to coma and death.  The FDA has consistently fought against the healthy Stevia Leaf.  In a country founded on freedom you can go to the library and buy a book on how

to make a bomb, or buy trashy pornography, but its illegal to  tell the consumer public the history of the Stevia Leaf, and the fact that it is a sweetener and has health advantages.  Yet it is perfectly alright for the FDA to approve a chemical poison, aspartame, for human consumption, masquerading as an additive. And it was perfectly alright for them to turn a deaf ear when they were petitioned to ban aspartame in l986 by the Community Nutrition Institute because consumers were going blind from the

wood alcohol.  The FDA in this letter speaks of compliance with law.  Yet, in l985 their own FDA toxicologist, the late Dr. Adrian Gross, told Congress that aspartame violated Delaney Amendment because it triggered brain tumors in lab animals.  His last words were: "And if the FDA violates its own laws who is left to protect the public?"  While the FDA speaks of adulteration have they not perverted the facts on aspartame?  The brochure that the FDA sends out on aspartame, pure propaganda , is answered and rebutted on www.dorway.com In August l995 the FDA unveiled a program to push pharmacists to prepare special patient information leaflets for every prescription they dispense. Yet, they do not consider it necessary to inform the consumer public that the DRUG aspartame has 92 documented symptoms and interacts with other drugs including monoamine oxidase inhibitors, alpha-methyldopa and L-dihydroxphenylalanine. -Just today, June 23 in the New York Times it says: "For the second time in two weeks, the Food and Drug Administration has taken the rare step of pulling a prescription drug,  ,,, The drug, Duract, a painkiller manufactured by Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories of St. Davids, Pa has caused a dozen cases of serious liver failure since it went on the market last July; four patients died and eight required liver transplants."  Yet aspartame has caused more deaths and more symptoms and more diseases.  Because it destroys the central nervous system (mimics MS), the brain (is escalating Alzheimers and other neurological horrors) and the optic nerve, it may be that aspartame has caused more deaths than many wars.  Redux and FenPhen were banned because they were causing cardiac problems and death.  Aspartame causes cardiac problems and death.  These three drugs alter serotonin.  Did they react together and cause death?  On June 8 Posicor was banned because it turned out to be potentially lethal when used with a long list of other drugs.  Aspartame also interacts with drugs and potentially lethal, yet it is not banned!

In discussing the dangers of NutraSweet in Assault On Medical Freedom, P.

Joseph Lisa wrote: "These complaints all came to the FDA's attention.

There were thousands of them.  Yet the FDA did nothing to take this

apparently dangerous product off the market.  In contrast the FDA took

rather heavy-handed and drastic actions against Herbalife for fewer than

six complaints, according to the California Food and Drug files."  Upon signing the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act into law, President Clinton said: "The passage of this legislation speaks to the determination of the legislators involved and I appreciate their work.  But most important, it speaks to the diligence with which an unofficial army of nutritionally conscious people worked democratically to change the laws in an area deeply important to them."   But the battle is not over to save dietary supplements G. M. Wolverton, M.D. in warning all patients off of NutraSweet said: "When you get the situation we now have in Washington with vast reaching bureaus

that are given awesome power (such as FDA has) "Government," as George

Washington said, "is not reason; government is not justice.  Like fire, it

is a dangerous servant and fearful master!" Dr. James Bowen in a statement to the FDA many years ago about aspartame said: .. "The recent revelations about the problems surrounding generic drug approvals are compelling evidence of what happens when an agency considers itself above the law in dealing with these matters.  In my opinion, this has resulted in the mass poisoning of the American public as  well as seventy-plus countries in the rest of the world Watching FDA officials walk through the "revolving door" and be further rewarded by being promoted o other positions of high public responsibility is clear evidence of a government out of control.   Twenty-six questions  to the FDA listed on the DORway web site remain

unanswered going on two years. Congressman Newt Gingrich continues to demand  these  answers but FDA knows the facts   would  remove the neurotoxin, aspartame, from the marketplace.   It is quite evident that neither the FDA or Monsanto want competition from the healthy Stevia leaf.

Safe Prescribing Information for Children in Canada Often Hard to Find

ScienceDaily (June 13, 2011) — Accurate, safe prescribing information for children is often unavailable to doctors in Canada because pharmaceutical companies will not disclose information to Health Canada, states an editorial in CMAJ (Canadian Medical Association Journal). Health professionals in Canada as well as other countries such as Japan and Australia, unlike their colleagues in the United States and Europe, do not have access to the same body of evidence regarding pediatric dosing.--"As a consequence, Canadian children and youth may fall victim to medication errors and mistreatment simply because of limited access to information about pediatric drugs," writes Dr. Paul Hébert, Editor-in-Chief, CMAJ, with coauthors.--Many drugs in the US that have specific pediatric labeling are described in Canada as having "insufficient evidence."-"Children are not little adults," state the authors. "Pediatric labelling should go well beyond simply adjusting adult doses to a pediatric weight, because this is inappropriate and potentially dangerous."--They cite as an example the increased suicide risk from early off-label prescribing of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors guided only by data in adults.--While the pharmaceutical industry maintains that pediatric markets are small and not profitable, the US and Europe have introduced financial incentives to encourage research in children. [U4] The US Pediatric Research Equity Act requires drug companies to conduct studies and submit results to the US Food and Drug Administration for drugs they expect will be used in children. "In line with recommendations of the World Health Organization, we need international harmonization of laws to ensure that appropriate incentives are in place to promote pediatric research necessary for pediatric indications and prescribing information,[U5] " write the authors. They conclude with a call to politicians to enact strict legislation similar to that in the US to protect Canadian children. --Story Source-The above story is reprinted (with editorial adaptations by ScienceDaily staff) from materials provided by Canadian Medical Association Journal, via EurekAlert!, a service of AAAS.--Journal Reference-Bob Peterson, Paul C. Dairy peptides significantly decrease blood pressure, British Journal of Nutrition paper

29 Aug 2005

Dairy peptides are effective in the reduction of systolic blood pressure (SBP) after three and six weeks of consumption, according to a new study published this month in the British Journal of Nutrition.1 The authors of the paper conclude that a functional food, enriched with the dairy peptides tested in the study, could assist in the prevention of hypertension in people with blood pressure that is above normal. --Today's single blinded, placebo controlled study was conducted amongst 131 subjects with high-normal blood pressure or mild hypertension, to investigate the efficacy of hydrolised casein containing two dairy peptides, Isoleucine-Proline-Proline (IPP) and Valine-Proline-Proline (VPP),[U6]  in reducing blood pressure. This active ingredient, known as AmealPeptideTM,is added to a new mini drink launched under the Flora/ Becel pro.activ brand, targeted at people following a healthy diet to control their blood pressure. --Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is an established independent risk factor for coronary heart disease (CHD), heart and kidney failure, and stroke and small reductions in blood pressure can have significant benefits at a population level. Studies have shown that small decreases in SBP (3-5 mmHg), are associated with a decrease in the risk for stroke of around 15 percent and coronary heart disease of around 10 percent.2-8 --The study demonstrated that volunteers consuming a daily dose of IPP and VPP of 1.8, 2.5 or 3.6mg experienced a dose dependent decrease in SBP compared to placebo. In subjects receiving 1.8mg of IPP and VPP, a significant decrease in SBP was observed at six weeks, and in subjects receiving either 2.5 or 3.6mg, a significant decrease in SBP was recorded at both three and six weeks.1 The antihypertensive effect was greater in subjects with mild hypertension than in subjects with high normal blood pressure.1 --"The results of this study further expand the base of clinical evidence on the effects of dairy peptides, and IPP and VPP in particular, on blood pressure ", comments Seiichi Mizuno, lead investigator of the study." This study demonstrates that a functional food containing IPP and VPP as an active ingredient could help to prevent hypertension in people with a blood pressure above normal. " -- --Over 20 human clinical trials with dairy peptides conducted over the past 10 years have demonstrated a blood pressure lowering effect for dairy drinks containing IPP & VPP. 1,9-24 European studies have shown reductions of up to 7mmHg for systolic and 4 mmHg for diastolic blood pressure. 19-23 --It is believed that dairy peptides work by inhibiting the action of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE).24 When ACE is inhibited, the formation of angiotensin II is reduced, vasoconstriction is less and blood pressure is lowered. It has long been known that inhibition of ACE can lead to blood pressure reduction.25,26  --. This is typically people who have high normal to mild hypertension but who are not on medication.

About the study

The study was a randomised, single blinded, placebo controlled study conducted over an 8 week period, consisting of a two week pre-treatment period and a 6 week treatment period. Subjects ingested two tablets containing 0, 1.8, 2.5 or 3.6mg of IPP and VPP at breakfast for 6 weeks. Measurements of blood pressure, pulse rate, body weight, standing height and a medical examination were performed at -2, 0, 3 and 6 weeks. --A significant decrease in SBP (- 5.8 mmHg) was observed in the group receiving 1.8 mg of VPP and IPP at 6 weeks (P<0.01) when compared to the value at week 0. Significant decreases were also observed in the groups receiving 2.5 mg and 3.6mg at 3 weeks (- 3.4 and - 4.1 mmHg, P<0.05 and P<0.05) and 6 weeks (- 6.2 and - 9.3 mmHg, P<0.001 and P<0.0001) when compared to the value at week 0. A significant difference between the placebo group and the peptide group was observed at a dosage of 3.6 mg (P<0.001).

About IPP and VPP

Dairy peptides are small peptides that are formed when casein (milk protein) is broken down into smaller pieces.
IPP and VPP are two such peptides, and can be manufactured using a naturally obtained enzyme preparation to break casein down into hydrolysed casein powder
. They can also be made by fermentation, where, instead of an enzyme preparation being used to break down the milk protein, lactic acid bacteria are used instead[U7] . Today's study tested IPP and VPP manufactured using the enzyme preparation, or Aspergillus oryzae protease.

Recipe—another means of doing this would be to go and get BCAA’s and  add to it proline orrr Utilize Gelaton + Branch Chain Aminos –since Gelaton has high levels of proline naturally you can add 1-2 grams with this to increase the benfits of both—Since BCAA’s regulate insulin Production and Fat utilization and assist in the GH levels of the body as well as maintain Strenght and Repair this would as well reduce the BP

Dr. R. Michael Castle reports the finding of cationic polymer fibers. Dr Hildegarde Staninger and Dr. Rahim Karjoom have reported findings of tiny parasitic nematode eggs of some type encased in the fibers. Additionally Drs. Researcher Clifford Carnicom has reported finding chemtrails fibers & abnormal blood cells that are an exact match with the bizarre fibers & blood cells found in those suffering from Morgellons Disease. Welcome to the brave new world of toxic skies, weather control, mind control and population control through the use of chemtrails modulated with electromagnetic frequencies generated by HAARP. Our health is under attack as evidenced by the skyrocketing rates of chemtrail induced lung cancer, asthma and pulmonary/respiratory problems as well as the emergence of a bizarre and frightening new plague, Morgellons Disease, an infection with a previously unknown agent that appears to be a synthesis of a bio lab created pathogen combined with self-replicating nano-technology. Over 60,000 families in the U.S. are now infected with Morgellons. I am one of the infected. My health and the health of my family has already been drastically affected. There is a main-stream media blackout on this subject so the only way to get the word out is by word of mouth. Realized or not people are already dying from chemtrail related illnesses. People are dying from Morgellons Disease. During this time of chemtrails a shocking drop in general life expectancy in the U.S. has occurred. This situation presents an immediate and serious threat to you, your family and loved ones. We must join together to stop this insane program of chemtrail spraying now. Some of you reading this may be in a position of influence and power to take significant action to bring chemtrails to a halt. Everyone can do something to help. Whatever your position or realm of influence please do whatever you can to bring an end to the aerosol spray program popularly known as Chemtrails. ADDED 7/13/2009 FUND RAISING FOR A CURE At this point just stopping the chemtrails will not be nearly enough. It is becoming increasingly apparent to researchers that virtually the entire population has most likely been infected by chemtrail pathogens that cause Morgellons Disease. The government to date has basically done nothing to fund research to find a cure for the Morgellons problem. Scientist, Clifford Carnicom has proven himself to be a dedicated and formidable researcher into Chemtrails/Morgellons for over a decade. Working on his own without funding he has managed to make many important discoveries about the nature of Morgellons disease and about the effects of chemtrails on the environment and the population. If you wish to donate to fund research for a cure The

When Warming Up for the Cycling Race, Less Is More

ScienceDaily (June 16, 2011) — Coaches, physiologists and athletes alike will attest to the importance of warming up before athletic competition. Warming up increases muscle temperature, accelerates oxygen uptake kinetics and increases anaerobic metabolism, all of which enhance performance. However, the question of how long and strenuous a warm-up should be is more contentious, with some in the sports community advocating longer warm-ups and others espousing shorter ones. Now researchers at the University of Calgary Human Performance Laboratory in Calgary, Alberta, Canada have found evidence indicating that less is more.--In a study comparing the effects of a traditional, intense warm-up with those of a shorter, less strenuous warm-up on the performance of 10 highly trained track cyclists, the researchers found that the shorter warm-up produced less muscle fatigue yet more peak power output.[U1]  The findings are published in the Journal of Applied Physiology. The study was conducted by Elias K. Tomaras and Brian R. MacIntosh.

The Long and Short of It

The intensity of traditional, longer warm-ups has been thought to offer competitive athletes an edge by promoting a process called post-activation potentiation (PAP). In PAP,[U2]  brief bouts of strenuous physical activity produce a biochemical change in muscle cells that can enhance muscle contractile response. The phenomenon usually lasts from 5 to 10 minutes. However, as the researchers note, fatigue can decrease muscle contractile response. Therefore, the team focused analysis on muscle contractile response as well as on another key component of a cyclist's success, peak power output.--In the study, cyclists participated in two warm-ups. A longer, traditional warm-up began with 20 minutes of cycling that gradually increased in intensity until the cyclists reached 95 percent of their maximal heart rates. This general warm-up was followed by four sprints at 8-minute intervals. The entire warm-up lasted approximately 50 minutes total. The shorter, experimental warm-up included a shorter initial ride that increased in intensity until the cyclists reached only 70 percent of their maximal heart rates. This warm-up ended with only one sprint and lasted approximately 15 minutes.--The researchers used specific tests to measure the cyclists' muscle contractile response and peak power output before, during and after the warm-ups. Although they theorized that both warm-ups would elicit PAP, they also theorized that the traditional warm-up would generate enough fatigue to counteract PAP[U3] , whereas the experimental warm-up might not. They found that although muscle contractile response decreased more after the traditional warm-up, indicating greater fatigue, there was a decrease in contractile response after both warm-ups. This, according to Tomaras, a co-author, "indicates that an even shorter warm-up might be better for athletes who want to tap into PAP."

The shorter warm-up permitted better performance, as well. Peak power output was 6.2 percent higher and total work was 5 percent higher after the experimental warm-up than after the traditional warm-up, results the researchers say are significant, and could make a substantial difference in competitive events.

Implications--The fitness community has embraced PAP as a competitive strategy in recent years. As word spreads about PAP's benefits, trainers and coaches have attempted to time PAP to coincide with competition. But the Calgary team's findings suggest too much focus on promoting PAP could be self-defeating, as starting the process requires intense, but tiring, bursts of activity. In their conclusion, the researchers write, "A warm-up that is performed at too high of an intensity for longer than necessary can result in fatigue and impair subsequent athletic performance."---Instead, according to co-researcher MacIntosh, "the findings suggest that competitive athletes may reap greater rewards from PAP by engaging in less strenuous warm-up than conventional wisdom dictates. A better approach would be to aim for just enough activity to promote PAP without creating fatigue."--This may be especially true for sprint athletes (cyclists, relay runners, track sprinters, swimmers), whose competition involves several events close together. The researchers conclude, "If warm-up results in fatigue of an athlete and impairs performance in a single subsequent bout of exercise, what impact would it have on multiple performances required on the same day?"--Story Source-The above story is reprinted (with editorial adaptations by ScienceDaily staff) from materials provided by American Physiological Society.--Journal Reference-E. IPERSONAL TIDBIT

This will apply even more so for those senior athletes who are past 50 or people trying to maintain there body composition---the idea is to train for tone  or strength and when you over do it –which is easy to do when you are fatigued from a warm up then this will carry over to the actual routine-then the recovery from a training will take longer as well.

If exercising always as a rule of thumb work with 70-80% capacity---the intensity or duration will determine the result of what one is trying to achieve as well

Food Remedies

C1 Onion +  2 Apples Peeled and blended and consumed in 3 oz increments 3 times a day

C1 Beet and 2 Apples Peeled and blended and consumed 3 oz increments 3 times a day

CGarlic-Just peel and consume—or liquify in aloe or honey or wine  -- Take 1 whole Garlic and add to a blender and add 1 ½ cup of wine and Blend for 5 minutes—then  strain and use 1 tsp every hour for the first 4 hours and then reduce to 1 every 2 hours

CClove and Cinnamon- take the essential oils of either clove or cinnamon and add 1-2 drops in a 1 oz container of vodka or any clear base alcohol mix well or blend and then apply a Q-tip and directly swab the area—this will give immediate relief---this can be done with children as well and for those babies teething apply a mix of the essential oil in aloe vera gel By adding 1 drop to 1 oz of the gel and mix thoroughly and apply to the gums to alleviate the pain of a teething child

CParsley and Dandelion and Other Green Drinks ( home made not store bought ) will as well remedy this by increasing blood purifying properties back into the system and increase the enzymes and detox the poisons out

CDrinking Broths with garlic or onion or chives  this to will remove the poisons and cause the teeth to recover

CTeas with Galangal will assist and removing poisons from the colon—Any tea that has a good antibacterial content will assist this dramatically using thyme—bay leaf –rosemary as a tea combo will assist—using teas with cinnamon and clove and cardamom will work as well

CFasting—definitely will see the teeth pain subside when nothing is going in

other then fluids—this will flush the poisons causing this activity

FOnce this clears then avoid the sugars and starches and grains and soy and soy derived foods and eliminate canolas out of the diet and no HFCS—No SODA or POP ( especially these  since the eat the teeth like battery acid and break down bone density as well allowing toxic fluoride to bind to the skeletal structure and adhese to the system more potentlyE

CEssential Oils Mix essential oils in either a Aloe Vera Gel—Honey—Maple syrup and use internally to clear up the microbes or bacteria or fungi causing the teeth to be in pain—again the ones to use  would be the ones with the properties that are strong and effective in this ---Thyme 1 drop Peppermint 1 drop Honey 2 – 3 oz-1 oz of brandy or any clear base alcohol that can be consumed ( do not use any alcohol that is non consumable) mix well and use ¼ tsp increments ---you can increase the dose of the essential oils in use as you become more familiar with this method—you can as well use bay leaf 1-2 drops with clove 1 drop-and 2 oz of the aloe gel mix well and make a paste in the are or consume as a beverage by adding ¼ tsp in water

§Special Note Get the Book By Jean Valnet The Practice of Aromatherapy—this will enhance your knowledge base in the regard to aromatherapy and essential oil USE—a lot of other books out there are Useless and are more for the Esthetics of aromatherapy then the actual use and some will elaborate on the more esoteric elements which can be at best questionable

Effects of a Rhodiola rosea L. extract on acquisition and expression of morphine tolerance and dependence in mice.

J Psychopharmacol. 2011 Mar;25(3):411-20

Authors: Mattioli L, Perfumi M

This study investigated the effect of Rhodiola rosea L. extract on acquisition and expression of morphine tolerance and dependence in mice. Therefore animals were injected with repeated administration of morphine (10 mg/kg, subcutaneous) twice daily for five or six days, in order to make them tolerant or dependent. Rhodiola rosea L. extract (0, 10, 15 and 20 mg/kg) was administered by the intragastric route 60 min prior to each morphine injection (for acquisition) or prior the last injection of morphine or naloxone on test day (for tolerance or dependence expression, respectively). Morphine tolerance was evaluated by testing its analgesic effect in the tail flick test at the 1st and 5th days. Morphine dependence was evaluated by counting the number of withdrawal signs (jumping, rearing, forepaw tremor, teeth chatter) after naloxone injection (5 mg/kg; intraperitoneal) on the test day (day 6). Results showed that Rhodiola rosea L. extract significantly reduced the expression of morphine tolerance, while it was ineffective in modulating its acquisition. Conversely, Rhodiola rosea L. extract significantly and dose-dependently attenuated both development and expression of morphine dependence after chronic or acute administration. These data suggest that Rhodiola rosea L. may have human therapeutic potential for treatment of opioid addiction.--PMID: 20142299 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

Evaluation of Rhodiola rosea L. extract on affective and physical signs of nicotine withdrawal in mice.

J Psychopharmacol. 2011 Mar;25(3):402-10

Authors: Mattioli L, Perfumi M

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of a Rhodiola rosea L. extract on the prevention of the development of nicotine dependence and for the reduction of abstinence suffering following nicotine cessation in mice. Dependence was induced in mice by subcutaneous injections of nicotine (2 mg/kg, 4 times/day) for eight days. Spontaneous abstinence syndrome was evaluated 20 h after the last nicotine administration, by analysis of withdrawal signs, as affective (anxiety-like behaviour) and physical (somatic signs and locomotor activity). Rhodiola rosea L. extract was administered orally during nicotine treatment (10, 15 and 20 mg/kg) or during nicotine withdrawal (20 mg/kg). Results show that both affective and somatic signs (head shaking, paw tremors, body tremors, ptosis, jumping, piloerection and chewing) induced by nicotine withdrawal are abolished by administration of Rhodiola rosea L. extract in a dose-dependent fashion, during both nicotine exposure and nicotine cessation. In conclusion, our data encourage additional studies to define the use of R. rosea L. as a therapeutic approach in the treatment of smoking cessation.--PMID: 19939867 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

African Alliances Challenge Introduction of GM Technology

Civil society and private sector organisations come together to fight
introduction of GM technology. Dr Eva Sirinathsinghji

The recent introduction of GM (genetic modification) technology into
Tanzania has prompted local and international campaign groups to join forces in expressing concern for the conservation of agricultural biodiversity, which is  crucial for food security and food sovereignty. Groups such as the African  Centre for Biodiversity, Action Aid, International Tanzania, Biolands, BioRe, BioSustain, Envirocare, PELUM Tanzania, Swissaid, Eastern & Southern African Small Scale Farmers Forum (ESAFF) and Tanzania Organic Agriculture Movement, formed the Tanzania Alliance for Biodiversity in recent weeks to urge the government to resist pressure from GM companies and stakeholders to relax the strict safety legislation to allow the widespread introduction of GM technologies [1]. One liability clause states that ‘a person who imports, arranges transit, makes use of, releases or places on the market a GMO or  product of a GMO shall be strictly liable for any harm caused by such a GMO or product of a GMO’ and that ‘the harm shall be compensated’. In a previously GM-free country, the alliance wants to base the assessment of GM crop safety on the precautionary principle, and state that ‘GM crops or animals are not the solution to poverty and hunger’ in the region. --Currently, Tanzania, along with Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Mali, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and Ghana are performing field tests on GM crops; maize and cassava are being tested in Tanzania. The Tanzanian Cotton Board has also approved the introduction of Bt cotton. South Africa, Burkina Faso and Egypt have already started cultivating GM crops. South Africa has experienced problems with crop yields; farmers have reported up
to 80 percent loss in corn production, with GM corn not producing kernels in a proportion of plants.
--Monsanto has been expanding into the African continent with support from United States Agency for International Development USAID, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, as well as the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), also founded by the Gates and Rockerfeller Foundations (see [2] Beware of the “Doubly Green Revolution”, SiS 37) . Bill Gates is a huge proponent of GM
biotechnology and has recently invested in 500 000 shares [U1] of the Monsanto stock worth an approximate US$23.1 million. This investment represents a strong conflict of interest between their purported role of ‘alleviating poverty and hunger among small-scale farmers’ and Monsanto’s track record of disregard for the interests and well-being of small farmers around the world. Small scale farm are the largest source food for much of the region.

Old-Fashioned Power Grab? FTCLDF Argues in New Court Brief That FDA Push to Eliminate Raw Milk Amounts to Illegal “Mandate” Forcing Pasteurized Milk on Americans

DateSunday, June 12, 2011 at 05:50PM

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is taking a lot of heat about its undercover investigation and court action against Pennsylvania Amish farmer Daniel Allgyer. The FDA’s number-two , Michael (Son of Monsanto) Taylor, was even asked about the matter at a corporate get-together, where he spouted the expected rhetoric about “doing our public health job” in connection with the legal assault, designed to prevent Allgyer from supplying a food club in Maryland with raw milk.---Michael Taylor of the FDA But Taylor made another interesting remark, noting that the campaign against Allgyer results from a “statutory directive” to the FDA.  He presumably was referring to the FDA’s implementation in 1987 of the federal ban on interstate distribution and sale of raw milk (PHS law 1240.61), at the behest of a federal judge the previous year. The judge ruled on a consumer group’s suit, demanding that the FDA put an end to interstate sales of unpasteurized milk. At that time, at least one large producer, Alta Deena, was shipping raw milk from its home base in California to a number of neighboring states.---Now, in a response to the FDA's brief filed last month arguing that the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund’s legal challenge to the agency’s ban of interstate distribution and sales of raw milk should be dismissed, the FTCLDF maintains that the judge’s 1986 decision ordering the ban was inappropriate on several counts. It notes that the FDA had, ironically, resisted efforts to push it into the interstate ban, and suggests the agency didn’t have the authority even under a judge’s order.---"Not only did the (1986 court decision) substitute its judgment for that of the FDA, it ordered FDA to institute an interstate ban on the sale of raw dairy products under the PHSA (Public Health Services Act) when there is no authority under the PHSA for FDA to regulate ‘interstate commerce.’ Thus, this reinforces the notion that (the court decision) is wrong and is an extreme case of judicial activism." The FTCLDF brief makes yet a further legal and Constitutional argument challenging the FDA’s effort to eliminate the availability of raw milk. The FTCLDF filed suit last year on behalf of five plaintiffs who were admittedly purchasing raw milk in states where it’s legal, and bringing it back to their home states, where such sales are illegal. The FDA has argued that such interstate transport of raw milk is illegal, but has said it has no immediate intention to enforce such a ban on individual consumers.--The FTCLDF argues that the FDA’s prohibition on interstate shipments of raw milk amounts to a “mandate that if dairy products are going to be purchased, those products must be pasteurized rather than fresh and unprocessed...."The group argues further that it remains legal to consume raw milk in all fifty states, and that Congress has never via any laws governing the regulation of food and drugs granted the FDA the authority to prohibit the interstate shipment or sales of raw milk.---"FDA cannot prohibit citizens from consuming the foods of their choice when it is legal in all 50 states to consume raw milk…Because Congress cannot tell the citizens what dairy products they must consume, neither can the FDA. Thus, FDA exceeded its authority under the FDCA (Food, Drug and Cosmetics Act) and these rules are invalid…”---The ban on transporting raw milk across state lines is invalid, FTCLDF maintains, because “neither the FDCA nor the PHSA give FDA the authority (1) to completely ban citizens from traveling across state lines with legally purchased raw dairy products in their possession, or to mandate the consumption of pasteurized dairy products at the expense of raw dairy products; (2) to designate such legally purchased raw dairy products that are taken across State lines by Plaintiffs as an ‘illness’ or ‘communicable disease’ per se, or (3) to deem misbranded a product that is what it purports to be."---Even if FDA did have the authority to interfere with raw milk in interstate commerce, “in this case, the raw milk is not being transported across state lines before it is sold. Only after the milk is sold is it taken across state lines, thus, it constitutes an intrastate sale that is not subject to the jurisdiction of the FDCA or the FDA.”---The FTCLDF brief also argues that, by trying to ban interstate shipments of raw milk under the Public Health Services Act, the agency is essentially treating the product as “a communicable disease.” Not very logical. “… a communicable disease is an illness, not an agricultural product that is sold or consumed. If FDA’s argument is accepted, then raw meat, raw chicken, raw eggs or raw produce could be considered a communicable disease.”---The FTCLDF brief concludes by arguing that banning raw milk from interstate shipment by consumers sets a dangerous precedent. “Our country was founded on the notion that we all have inherent, inalienable rights that the government cannot take away from us except by due process. ‘Government of the people, by the people, for the people’ as Abraham Lincoln said. ---And FTCLDF asks the court to recognize the rapidly emerging food rights movement. “In this day and age many people, including Plaintiffs, are now eschewing and opting out of the industrial-sized, centralized, subsidized, government-sanctioned food production system. Instead, they are turning toward local farmers who are producing nutrient-dense foods that will restore their health. Although this national ‘food rights’ movement was probably not contemplated by the Founding Fathers, it should now be recognized by this Court as a component of Plaintiffs’ liberty interest in having access to the foods of their choice.”---The FDA has said there isn't even a "plausible" Constitutional case that can be made for access to particular foods as a right. It's now in a federal judge's hands to decide whether the FTCLDF case is dismissed or moves forward.

Sepsis- Leaking Blood Vessels May Be Cause of Infection-Spreading Condition-Research

ScienceDaily (June 22, 2011) — Researchers at St. Michael's Hospital have put forward a new theory as to what causes sepsis, an often fatal condition that occurs when infection spreads throughout the body. -Leaking blood vessels may actually be a cause of sepsis, rather than a symptom as previously thought[U1] , said Dr. Warren Lee.-Dr. Lee's hypothesis and a review of recent research on sepsis were published in the journal Science Translational Medicine.-Sepsis kills about 1,400 people a day worldwide and is the second-leading cause of death in intensive care units in Canada. Despite intense research, the death rate remains high, between 30 and 50 per cent. Treatments largely consist of surgical removal or drainage of the infected site, antibiotics and supportive care.-"[U2] The lack of therapies is not for want of effort. On the basis of promising in vitro and animal studies, many drugs have entered clinical trials only to fail, resulting in the description of sepsis research as a 'graveyard' of discovery," said Dr. Lee, a critical care physician and researcher in the hospital's L Ka Shing Knowledge Institute."The repeated failure of clinical trials suggests that some fundamental knowledge is lacking in our current understanding of the pathogenesis of human sepsis."-Dr. Lee said one reason previous trials may have failed is that they haven't taken into account a key feature of sepsis in humans -- diffuse microvascular leakage (widespread leakage from small blood vessels) leading to swelling in tissues and organs (edema). This causes organs throughout the body to malfunction. There have been no clinical trials of drugs designed to prevent or treat leaky blood vessels.-"This is a major change in our thinking about sepsis that could lead to novel treatments to save lives," Dr. Lee said. "Sepsis is a devastating illness. If we could develop drugs to stop blood vessels from leaking, we could save lives."-Story Source-The above story is reprinted (with editorial adaptations by ScienceDaily staff) from materials provided by St. Michael's Hospital. The original article was written by Leslie Shepherd.-Journal Reference-N. M. Goldenberg, B. E. Steinberg, A. S. Slutsky, W. L. Lee. Broken Barriers: A New Take on Sepsis Pathogenesis. Neutralize and Enhance in Cooking

Here are going to be some ideas on how to potentially reduce or stop mutating or poisoning of foods we consume when they get in us—the Key here is to AVOID as possible these foods that are genetically altered. Since there is no real way of telling if there has been any cross genetics as a result of transference of pollens from insects –birds-wild life fecal matter or winds and rains or run off from water—we have to assume that there is nothing that has been exposed-In Mexico they have found that a species of genetically modified corn planted in one part of the country was also found 1000miles away in another part of the country.---Lets start out with some kitchen herbs--  the list to get started will be on the linkThe list is extensive so this will be a good place to start-go to the kitchen herbs http://augmentinforce.50webs.com/KITCHEN%20HERBS.htm#KITCHEN HERBS

USE Only Steam Distilled Essential Oils—Only use these not solvent distilled the steam uses just water vapour and the solvent use strippers that can leave a residue in the essential oil

When we are utilizing fats in cooking ( any fat ) what we want to do is boost the fat effectiveness and reduce the break down by adding antioxidants to the fats or herbal or plant components that will increase the utilization of the fat and keep it from breaking down into a free radical---fats have to break down as any other foods but with the antioxidants in them they will cause nominal damage and will as well not carry bacteria or parasites that will live in these environments-causing us to collapse from within. This to will reduce any “Lipid Oxidation” or cholesterol damage and allow for the body to remove the broken or used fats out

Herbs suggested would be –Bay leaf-Rosemary-Sage-Thyme-Oregano-Savoury-Chive-Garlic-Black Pepper-Arjuna-Ajowain-Celery Seed-Ginger-Galanga-Tumeric-Neem---The use of the Essential Oils as well -- Bay leaf-Rosemary-Sage-Thyme-Oregano-Savoury-Chive-Parsley-Lemon-Lime-Orange-Tangerine etc

The way to use them would be to add to the fats either as a fusion or during the actual cooking process---to Fuse add either the herbs to a glass container with the oil of choice or fat of choicelard-butter-ghee-coconut oil-palm oil –animal fat for the saturated fats or other oils Such as olive-almond-peanut-sunflower-pumpkinseed-macadamia etc—add any of the essential oils or fuse them  with the herbs of choice or any combination there of with essential oil and herb—Fusing can be done by 1) using a double broiler method where you add the oil inside a glass container and then set this container in the pot of hot water or even boil water and allow to be in there 30 minutes+  til you see the oil absorb the components once fused the strain and add to glass— 2 )or you can add to a blender and blend at high speed with the essential oils or herbs and then strain afterwards-or you can as well add 1 ounce of an alcohol and 6-10 oz of oil and whatever you want to fuse this with and either blend it or double broil it or add to a frying pan and  add a little water to keep the oil from becoming to hot and add either or both the herbs or essential oils to them—3 ) or you can use the sun method by adding the components in an oil and in a non clear class allow to sit in the sun for 2 weeks afterwards strain and use-In all of the discussions the essential oils have to be steam distilled  not stripped with a solvent because the solvent residual will be in the foods as well-

This will be a matter of preference— need ( if there is a health condition warranting a specific element to create a healing or a balance ) and as a preventative—so explore the different herbs/essential oil in you preparations
