Bacteria Adapt and Evade Nanosilver's Sting

May 8, 2013 — Researchers from UNSW have cautioned that more work is needed to understand how micro-organisms respond to the disinfecting properties of silver nano-particles, increasingly used in consumer goods, and for medical and environmental applications.---Although nanosilver has effective antimicrobial properties against certain pathogens, overexposure to silver nano-particles can cause other potentially harmful organisms to rapidly adapt and flourish, a UNSW study reveals.--This result, published in the journal Small, could have wide-reaching implications for the future use of nanosilver as an antimicrobial agent with biomedical and environmental applications.---"We found an important natural ability of a widely occurring bacteria to adapt quite rapidly to the antimicrobial action of nanosilver. This is the first unambiguous evidence of this induced adaptation," says co-author Dr Cindy Gunawan, from the UNSW School of Chemical Engineering.---Using an experimental culture, UNSW researchers observed that nanosilver was effective in suppressing a targeted bacteria (Escherichia coli), but that its presence initiated the unexpected emergence, adaptation and abnormally fast growth of another bacteria species (Bacillus).---The efficacy of nanosilver to suppress certain disease-causing pathogens has been well-documented, and as a result, it has become widely used in medicine to coat bandages and wound dressings. It also has environmental uses in water and air purification systems, and is used in cosmetics and detergents, and as a surface coating for things like toys and tupperware.---But the researchers say this exploitation of nanosilver's antimicrobial properties have "gained momentum due in part to a lack of evidence for the potential development of resistant microorganisms."---"Antimicrobial action of nanosilver is not universal and the widespread use of these products should take into consideration the potential for longer-term adverse outcomes," says Gunawan.---The researchers say these adverse impacts could be more pronounced given the near-ubiquitous nature of the Bacillus bacteria, which originate from airborne spores, and because the resistance trait can potentially be transferred to the genes of other micro-organisms.---"For the medical use of nanosilver, this implies the potential for reduced efficacy and the development of resistant populations in clinical settings," says co-author Dr Christopher Marquis, a senior lecturer from the UNSW School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences.---"This work suggests caution in the widespread use of nanosilver and the requirement for much deeper research into the antimicrobial mechanisms, the extent of adaptability and the molecular basis or genetics of cell defence against the antimicrobial activity."-----Story Source-The above story is reprinted from materials provided by University of New South Wales. ---Journal Reference--Cindy Gunawan, Wey Yang Teoh, Christopher P. Whole Walnuts and Their Extracted Oil Improve Cardiovascular Disease Risk

Walnuts. Consumption of whole walnuts or their extracted oil can reduce cardiovascular risk through a mechanism other than simply lowering cholesterol, according to new research. ---May 8, 2013 — Consumption of whole walnuts or their extracted oil can reduce cardiovascular risk through a mechanism other than simply lowering cholesterol, according to a team of Penn State, Tufts University and University of Pennsylvania researchers.--"We already know that eating walnuts in a heart-healthy diet can lower blood cholesterol levels," said Penny Kris-Etherton, Distinguished Professor of Nutrition, Penn State. "But, until now, we did not know what component of the walnut was providing this benefit. Now we understand additional ways in which whole walnuts and their oil components can improve heart health."----In a randomized-controlled trial, the researchers gave 15 participants with elevated blood cholesterol one of four treatments -- either 85 grams of whole walnuts, 6 grams of skin, 34 grams of defatted nutmeat, or 51 grams of oil. The team evaluated biochemical and physiological responses in the participants before the treatments were administered and again 30 minutes, one hour, two hours, four hours and six hours after administering the treatments. The researchers repeated this process for each of the remaining three treatments.----Results -- which will appear in the June 1 issue of the Journal of Nutrition and are now online -- showed that a one-time consumption of the oil component in walnuts favorably affected vascular health. In addition, consumption of whole walnuts helped HDL -- good cholesterol -- perform more effectively in transporting and removing excess cholesterol from the body.--"Our study showed that the oil found in walnuts can maintain blood vessel function after a meal, which is very important given that blood vessel integrity is often compromised in individuals with cardiovascular disease," said Claire Berryman, graduate student in nutritional sciences, Penn State. "The walnut oil was particularly good at preserving the function of endothelial cells, which play an important role in cardiovascular health."---According to the researchers, walnuts contain alpha-linolenic acid, gamma-tocopherol and phytosterols, which may explain the positive effects of the walnut oil treatment.--"Implications of this finding could mean improved dietary strategies to fight heart disease," said Berryman. "The science around HDL functionality is very new, so to see improvements in this outcome with the consumption of whole walnuts is promising and worth investigating further." Further studies are needed to determine the mechanisms that account for cardiovascular disease risk reduction with walnut consumption, according to Kris-Etherton "Our study indicates that simple dietary changes, such as incorporating walnuts and/or their oil in a heart healthy diet, may reduce the risk of heart disease," she said Other authors on the paper include Jessica Grieger and Sheila West of Penn State, Oliver Chen and Jeffrey Blumberg of Tufts University, and George Rothblat and Sandhya Sankaranarayanan of the University of Pennsylvania. The California Walnut Board funded this research--- Story Source-The above story is reprinted from materials provided by Penn State. The original article was written by Sara LaJeunesse.

Adding Walnuts To Good Diet May Help Older People Improve Motor And Behavioral Skills

Adding a moderate, but not high, amount of walnuts to an otherwise healthy diet may help older individuals improve performance on tasks that require motor and behavioral skills.---Apr. 25, 2009 — Adding a moderate, but not high, amount of walnuts to an otherwise healthy diet may help older individuals improve performance on tasks that require motor and behavioral skills, according to an animal model study by Agricultural Research Service (ARS)-funded scientists. Walnuts contain polyphenols and other antioxidants and essential fatty acids.--The study was conducted by researchers with the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging (HNRCA) at Tufts University in Boston, Mass.---Neuroscientist James Joseph, psychologist Barbara Shukitt-Hale and coauthors Lauren Willis and Vivian Cheng reported the study in the British Journal of Nutrition. They are with the HNRCA's Neuroscience Laboratory. ARS is the principal intramural scientific research agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.---The aging brain undergoes many changes that can result in altered or impaired neuronal functioning. Such disruption can be attributed in part to alterations in "synaptic plasticity," or the ability of the connections between neurons to change in strength and function, and also by increased oxidative damage to neural tissue. In aged rodents, these impairments are seen as poor performance on age-sensitive tests of balance, coordination, and "spatial" working memory. --For the study, weight-matched, aged rats were randomly assigned to one of four diet groups. For eight weeks, the rats were fed special chow mixes that contained either 2 percent, 6 percent or 9 percent walnuts-or no walnuts-before undergoing motor and memory tests. For comparison, the 6 percent walnut study diet is equivalent to a human eating 1 ounce, or about 7 to 9 walnuts, a day. That counts as both a 2-ounce equivalent from the "meat and beans group" and 2 teaspoons toward a daily allowance of dietary oil, as described at MyPyramid.gov.--The study found that in aged rats, the diets containing 2 percent or 6 percent walnuts were able to improve age-related motor and cognitive shortfalls, while the 9 percent walnut diet impaired reference memory. Walnuts, eaten in moderation, appear to be among other foods containing polyphenols and bioactive substances that exhibit multiple effects on neural tissue, according to the researchers. --The above story is reprinted from materials provided by USDA/Agricultural Research Service. --

Basic Anti-Biofilm  and Anti NanoParticle Approach-Morgellons

ANTI-BIOFILM PROTOCOL KEYS

Humans, as a rule, are a host to various "friendly" bacteria and viruses.  We carry them around with us in tissues and biofilms and they normally exist in balance within our bodies.  The body is made of an estimated 100 trillion cells.  However, humans host between 1.5-2 quadrillion and approximately 1,500 different types of bacteria. "The number of bacteria living within the body of the average healthy adult human are estimated to outnumber human cells 10 to 1!"

Although more research is needed as to everything we get from this arrangement, we know that:

  • We need their enzymes for various body processes
  • They communicate with the immune system
  • They prevent growth of harmful species
  • They regulate the development of the gut
  • They produce vitamins (such as biotin and vitamin K)
  • They ferment unused energy substrates
  • They produce needed hormones
  • They assist us in the biofilms in the gut, respiratory system, urinary tract, mucus membranes of the reproductive tract.

Is it realistic or even possible to try and remove all biofilm from the body, when we have always hosted biofilm communities?  No, because we are designed to live in harmony with one another, unless infection and other problems create an imbalance.  Humans are "symbiotes" with various organisms.

It is when Lyme Disease and co-infections and strong antibiotics enter the picture that the normal, symbiotic biofilm arrangement in the body can most likely be tipped over the edge into more pathogenic ("bad") biofilm communities.

Is it possible that the good guy, friendly biofilms can be "brought to the dark side," and go from good to pathogenic?  We think this is certainly possible, particularly in chronic illness, and especially in the theory of "Pleomorphism."    Pleomorphists believe that internal microorganisms can change from avirulent, benign forms into a potentially virulent, pathogenic, forms."  Click for article and reference.   The goal then, is to re-establish the healthy balance and symbiotic relationship to the natural biofilm and organisms in the body.

Think of it this way:  When you are healthy, your body exists as a balanced series of communities of human cells carrying thousands of species of organisms that help you and one another survive.  When you begin to kill off these species, especially with toxic chemicals like antibiotics, they will in effect fight back to survive, turning against the host or one another in chronic disease

Morgellons  Protocol on biofilm protocol and Nano items, outlined below, to address pathogenic biofilm( polymerized material):

1. Systemic (proteolytic and mucolytic) enzymes (degrade sugars, proteins, and mucus-like slime in biofilm).  Besides being listed in the protocol charts, more of these enzymes are found in the "Products to Degrade Biofilms" or the "Proteolytic Enzymes" categories.  Systemic enzymes enter the circulatory systems and GI tract.

2. Fulvic acid (addresses minerals and metals in biofilm).*

3. Disodium EDTA (chelates minerals in biofilm and calcium shells from nanoparticles).  The only EDTA we use is combined in a controlled dose in the products like Interfase Plus.  We don't supply high dose single EDTA products, because at high doses it can be dangerous to mobilize a toxic metal load and it can overwhelm you as a result of its incorrect use.  Be careful with your use of this, even via a doctor, and always use binders with it.*

4. Lactoferrin (binds to iron, depriving biofilm matrix of this essential mineral).  Lactoferrin is often used in biofilm protocols without Lyme Disease* present.  Use 100% Lactoferrin (meaning the single supplement).  Practitioners suggest buying the 250 mg. capsules, using brands like Symbiotics, Jarrow, or another single high quality lactoferrin supplement.)

START THE DOSE AT 125 MG OR LESS, as severe Herx. can result if you use too high a dose to start.  Slowly work up the dose to a manageable one over a period of weeks.  (Get some empty capsules and measure out doses.)  We can't stress enough the importance of going slowly

*If you are experiencing acute Lyme Disease, you may want to omit this item since it is derived from milk and it is questionable if some dried dairy products contain Lyme bacteria (which could be cultured to grow.)

5. cis-2-decenoic acid, contained in Royal Jelly or other sources (acts as a dispersant to dissolve protein, nucleic acids, polysaccharides.)  Be sure you take a high quality product, as mold has been detected in some products sold on the internet.

6. Targeted and broad spectrum antimicrobials that cross the blood/brain barrier (address pathogens that reside in biofilm).

7. Bile stimulants, resins, charcoal (assist to release and bind neurotoxins that find their way into the biliary tree and GI tract after biofilm breakdown and reduces their massive re-uptake and recirculation back through the body).

8. Buffers and Alkaline pH products, like buffered Vitamin C (buffers stabilize the pH and neutralize the neurotoxic acid load that results from the die off of pathogens and the disease state. Alkaline pH products and foods create a more alkaline interior milieu during healing protocols).

9. Berberine (natural solvent that blocks the ability of biofilms to stick to epithelial tissue and fibronectin in the body, interferes with biofilm formation, inhibits metabolism of bacteria).

10. Curcumin / Turmeric - at higher levels or concentration (supports liver, breaks down mineralizations, assists in musculoskeletal pain support, enhances immunity).  Use curcumin products that are made to be "bioavailable" (able to be dispersed in water) because turmeric and curcumin are fat soluable, not water soluable.  Try CuraPro and
Theracurmin.

11. Cell Permeability items (allows for the absorption of fat-soluble antimicrobials and other supplements, maintains integrity of cell membranes - like EFAs, MSM, phospholipids, etc.). MSM, for instance, enhances the cell wall's ability to absorb nutrients, but also appears to inhibit the "stickiness" of pathogens to surfaces.  ("Fat soluble" means that the product needs fat to be able to be absorbed by the body.  Some items easily absorb through water, but others need fats.)

Note: Lipids are part of biofilms - it is still to be proven if dietary lipids or essential fatty acids are recruited to be a part of the biofilm or if they are nutrients for it. (Lipids include dietary fats, like fats in meats and cheese, etc., along with essential fatty acids).   Some doctors feel that lipids feed the pathogens and biofilm, while others disagree and recommend liposomal (made with fats) drinks and supplements, along with coconut oil, fish oils, etc.

Our protocols include some essential fatty acids.  If you are concerned about this, take MSM or another item instead to increase cellular permeability of fat soluble nutrients. Make sure the essential fatty acids are not the ones with mercury or arsenic they all have them buy the individual oils like walnut for omega 3 and heart support—hazel nut oil for dha and your omega 6—and pumpkin seed oil for omega 9’s and anti parasitical effect---fats are an essential part of the immune functions and to assist our cellular integrity---as they break down the internals then bind essential oil with the fats to assist in the breaking down of the biofilms and restoring cellular integrity

12.  Toxin Binders (bind to neurotoxins and metals to reduce their recirculation).—Utilize serrepeptase—EDTA—or charcoal in the assist and utilize MSM and Vitamin C  1gram increments of both several times a day to protect the liver from the chelating of the metals and other pathogens a s well

13. Fiber (sweeps the colon to absorb and bind toxins, inorganic materials, and metals and assist in elimination; supports colonization of healthy microflora in the gut).---Use {Pectins from either citrus—or apple or pear or even pecto bought at a grocery store and apply in water allow to dissolve and use ¼-1/2 tsp in 3 oz stir til dissolved and then consume}  Use salt and potassium to alleviate and loss of water in the colon

14. MSM (natural solvent that at the correct dose interferes with the adhesion of biofilms to surfaces; makes cell membranes more permeable to nutrients.)  Build your dose of MSM slowly, as MSM may mobilize metals that needing binding.  With higher doses of MSM, be sure to use binders.

15. Herbs with Detergent Action (some herbs have a detergent action to disrupt the outer cell membrane of the spirochete and possibly the biofilm.)  Items like Sarsparilla, oregon grape, and other sources),Lauricidin Grapefruit Seed Extract*, balmony, black currant, soapwort, and walnut have a detergent-like action.  Other natural detergent chemicals found in plants include: PALMITIC-ACID, PALMITOLEIC-ACID, RICINOLEIC-ACID

(*Commercially made Grapefruit Seed Extracts have been the subject of controversy due to reports that they may contain chemical preservatives and chemicals like benzethonium chloride, benzalkonium chloride, triclosan, and various parabens.  Be sure that your GSE is safe if you are taking that product or take a different broad spectrum anti-microbial.)

18.  Essential Plant Oils (chemicals in many volatile oils disrupt the biofilm, inhibit the "quorum sensing" ability of the colony, and turn off the biofilm's pump system.)  EPOs are also helpful in degrading biofilm.  This is why Biocidin Advanced liquid formula is at the foundation of our early protocols, because it includes essential plant oils, but also broad spectrum antimicrobials.

*Special note:  If you are using metal "mobilizer" products that have been recommended by your doctor, you must be certain to bind these mobilized metals, because you can create damage by recirculating released metals.

Regarding the use of Xylitol in biofilm protocols - Be careful with oral Xylitol and start the dose very low, as it can cause considerable upset and painful bloating in the stomach and GI tract. Use binders, antimicrobials, and other essential items if you try it. (Topical Xylitol has been proven to be effective in preventing skin wound biofilm, especially in diabetic skin conditions.)

Additions:

1. Herxheimer Support products.  You will Herx., when you use healing protocols.  You will Herx. when you use enzymes and essential oils at the correct doses.  Herx. support products are recommended if you experience uncomfortable symptoms of die off.  Pathogens in the blood, like free floating planktonic cells, will cause more acute, immediate Herx. response, while biofilm-related Herx. may start 5-10 days later (as you degrade more of the biofilm with enzymes).

2. Diet rich in alkaline foods and supplements (prevents an overly acidic milieu, including Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar, Malic Acid, Buffered C, Alfalfa, green drinks, etc.).   When the biofilm is first being addressed, the milieu is acid, and more conducive to eliminating pathogenic biofilm.

3. Anti-Inflammatory items (mitigates the damage to tissues, lowers cytokine storm and Herx. reaction).—cheapest anti-inflammatory and anti biofilm would be chlorophyll and salicylate acid in combination-which would give a SOD like effect sustaining  Glutathione

4. Immune Support items (modulates immune response and encourage the activity of NK cells).

5. Probiotics / Prebiotics  and specialized anti-biofilm supplements targeted at gut biofilm, such as Syntol.

If you have developed IBS, this points to possible pathogenic biofilm communities in the small intestine.

Consider supplementing with probiotics in the Bacillus family, as these probiotics have been shown to be effective in helping to address Colitis and IBS (see TruFlora product).

Adjust your diet.  Eliminate processed carbs, Rice,Wheat,Sorghum,Rye,Corn—No SOY or SOY based products—no Canola oil, No Microwaving of any food—Eliminate all High glycemic fruits such as Bananas-Grapes_rasons-Watermelon and  Dates—No Agave-Corn Sugar ( HFCS) No Molasses-White or any brown Sugar in the diet, even Stevia, as glucose (and mannose) appear to be nutrients for spirochetes as well as biofilm.   If you have significant biofilm problems, expect to adhere to an antibiofilm diet for a number of years.  To "Starve or Not to Starve" the biofilm of possible nutrients?  Here is an interesting update, from the Montana State University Biofilm Research team:

"A biofilm contains a vast array of different metabolic niches which vary in oxygen concentration, nutrient and ionic concentrations as well as concentrations of waste materials. Cells within the biofilm matrix vary in growth rate from actively growing to essentially dormant.

"Presumably, in every biofilm, there are niches in which certain cells are metabolically quiescent (quiet, in the resting phase) due to nutrient deprivationNutrient limitation, whether it be in a stationary phase culture or in the depths of a biofilm, may increase resistance by reducing metabolic activity.  These cells, having fewer metabolic points of attack, are less susceptible to the action of antimetabolites like antibiotics and disinfectants." Montana State University, The Biofilms Hypertextbook

So, should you starve or not starve the biofilm?  If you try to starve the biofilm and planktonic (free floating) cells of dietary nutrients, will you theoretically contribute to dormant, resting phases of bacteria located deeper in the biofilm that are more resistant to antibiotics and antimicrobials?  Until we know more, most natural practitioners advise limiting sugar intake in its various food forms, as well as suggest other dietary restrictions.

It is thought that free floating, planktonic cells utilize nutrients at a much higher rate than those inside the biofilm.  With planktonic cells metabolizing at a high rate, and cells deeper in the biofilm metabolizing at a much lower rate, then

"This reduced metabolic activity may result in these cells ingesting less of an antimicrobial agent than cells with a higher metabolic rate in a planktonic state, resulting in less susceptibility to antimicrobials."

Remember: If you take mineral supplements like selenium, zinc, and molybdenum (for brain fog), take them hours away from EDTA and Fulvic Acid. Avoid taking calcium, magnesium or iron unless you are in a deficient state. These minerals support the biofilm.

How to Take Products - Optimal Timing:

1. Take Systemic Enzymes & chelators 30 mins before antimicrobials (and also away from food, preferably on empty stomach).

2. Take Buffers 60 min after the antimicrobials, (away from food, preferably on empty stomach).

How often do I use the biofilm protocol?

- It can be followed 1x day ~ 3x a day. Aim for at least 2x per day. You will see biofilm products listed 3x per day in our sample protocols. Pace yourself if you are unable to handle Herx. reactions, and add Herx. support products if needed.

Acute Lyme Disease: 3x per day.

Chronic Lyme Disease: 1x-3x per day.

Herxheimer Reactions:

- Expect to Herx. while taking systemic enzymes and essential oil products.  Degrading pathogenic biofilm is a slow, steady attempt, so build items into your protocol slowly.

How long do I stay on the biofilm protocol?

- Most biofilm protocols last from 3-6 months, So stay to it —this will depend  on the nature and genetics of the biofilm expect it to take a year or more

- For minor-moderate yeast overgrowth due to biofilms in the gut, Syntol is now available, and a course of 1-3 months is suggested per the manufacturer.  Purchase two bottles to start.

How long do I stay on Lyme Disease protocols?

- For Lyme Disease, realistically expect to be on a healing protocol for  a year or more, depending on your condition and infections, compliance to the protocol, and whether your condition is acute or chronic. This does mean you rotate on high dose systemic enzymes the entire time.   Use systemic enzymes in the earlier phases of the protocol, then cycle off the frequent dose.---Depending on the enzyme –Never USE NATTO---utlize serrpeptase and trypsin and Lipase in high dose---use the amylase and cellulose enzymes as well and reduce the carb intake

Why not stay on systemic enzymes to degrade biofilm for very extended periods of time?   - The answers are not all in at this time (2012).  Approaching biofilm illness is new territory to researchers.  They simply don't know the long term, high dose, enzyme impact to healthy biofilm, and how or if it may create a problem.

It is best to perhaps cycle off the heavy hitter systemic enzymes after 5-6 months to allow healthier  if feeling over whelmed. The second part is most applicable ---these biofilms are polymes and the intensity of the purging has to be ongoing---this will be reduce drastically over a period of at least 2years due to the nature of Gentic Manipulation of these polymers---sustain the high end enzymes ---if you reduce you may allow the over growth in the colon to reinitiate

Some manufacturers suggest using intensive systemic enzymes (for the elimination of biofilm) for up to 6 months before discontinuation.

Feed healthy biofilm in the gut with FOS/ probiotics that include FOS, and fiber.  Prevent and address small intestine biofilm (one symptom is IBS) with good quality probiotics.  Look into taking extra bacillus (TruFlora) along with your regular probiotic.

Proteolytic (degrades protein) and mucolytic (degrades mucous) enzymes help remove elements in the biofilm layer that protects and houses Lyme bacteria, viruses, mycoplasma, nanobacteria and certain other biofilm-producing pathogens.

As you degrade the biofilm, its contents will "spill" into your system - that is why several items are used to eradicate biofilm, pathogens, metals, etc. It's also best to also take Iodine and/Vitamin C & MSM at correct doses to prevent biofilms from re-adhering to other surfaces as the biofilm gets degraded by the enzymes - they will simply recolonize and reattach otherwise.

However, once the biofilm is destabilized in one location (by incapacitating one of the organisms within the biofilm), the biofilm itself in that location becomes compromised.  Or it may move to another part of the body

As of 2011, it has been shown that younger biofilm can be destabilized with enzymes and other agents.  Once it becomes significantly destabilized, the whole organism in that location will collapse and not thrive.  Remember, when you destabilize biofilm, living organisms will "spill" into the bloodstream and surrounding tissues.  ALWAYS take antimicrobials and binders when you are destabilizing pathogenic biofilm.  "Younger" biofilm indicates biofilm that is not chronic and calcified.  Younger biofilm is fluid like, while old traces of biofilm can become hardened.   This can take up to 2 years to achieve this---most biofilm has been ongoing for years unaware that the root causes are airborne nano particles- GE grains ( which is all of them now ) and foods and fluids we consume

Strong proteolytics like PRX, , CDX, Interfase, Interfase Plus (w/EDTA), Syntol, Serrapeptidase and Lumbrokinase help to discourage the formation of biofilms, as well as degrade their protein and mucus components, allowing immune cells and antimicrobials to be more effective. (CDX, Interfase and Syntol products primarily target biofilms in the gut, but they are still considered systemic enzymes.)

- Our protocols contain enzyme products with lower doses of EDTA. (Higher levels of EDTA will accomplish more in a shorter period of time, but higher doses must be taken with extreme care and adherence to the other items.) if taking high doses of edta then you must be cyclical one week in with the edta and one week off and the week not in use will utlize minerals---especially copper and zinc and manganese---these are crucial for immune function as well as restoring the minerals being depleted during chelation---the use f alltrace minerals-minerals and Iodine (lugols) would increase the restoration quicker

Is there a magic bullet enzyme?  It has been suggested that using combination formulas containing different systemic enzymes may be more effective than using a single enzyme.  Single proteolytics include Lumbrokinase, Serratiopeptidase (Serrapeptase), bromelain, etc. Combination formulas include several of these proteolytics along with those that degrade mucus. .

Until we know more about the ways pathogenic biofilm can be undermined and prevented, it is a good idea to switch up not only your enzymes, but your antimicrobials.  This is why we suggest you juggle combinations of items and switch out and rotate them, and even introducing new products at different points in your healing.

Search the "Products to Degrade Biofilms" or the "Proteolytic Enzymes" categories to select an enzyme product to degrade the biofilm.

Search metal detox agents under "Metal Detox Products."

Nanoparticles and the possible role in tick disease protocols:

To take protocols to the next level, we should consider the role of "nanoparticles." A contributing element in biofilms is the development of mineral shells, creating hard crystallizations.

Calcium in the biofilm is converted to the mineral carbonate apatite, and the calcifications build up, ultimately contributing to diseases and conditions that are linked to tick disease, like MS, cardiac problems, arthritis, brain fog, and more.

Crystals seem to be slower growing than pathogens. In marine biofilms, these hard shells often do not contain larger, live organisms (think vacant barnacles on the hull of a ship). In the body, crystallizations can continue to build upon themselves, opening the possibility of causing chronic problems. The use of colloids can force out the nano particles and increase restoration---never ever utilize any nano mineral in the system this will ifact increase the replication of the nano’s that are there---as you break down the nano particles restore the right elements internally---the use of internalizing specific essentialoilssuch as terebinth and birch can actually break down pathogens and will see them come out in pieces ---this is a morgellon contagion—a bio created genetic infection

Lyme spirochetes are found to aggregate (gather) in biofilms.   Until 2009, protocols focused on eradicating individual pathogens, with little attention paid to biofilms.  Especially in chronic infections, newer protocols  address biofilm as a colony of different organisms with a defensive barrier.

Organisms are seen in various tissues and blood in various forms and growth phases, meaning the organisms are not always strictly limited to the locations of the biofilm.  They can also live outside of it.  This is why our protocols address pathogens throughout the body, including blood stream, joints, nerve tissue, brain, and biofilm.

Within the protective barrier of biofilms, pathogens aggregate and multiply, greatly increasing virulence.  Enzymes and other agents are recommended in Tick Disease protocols to degrade and destabilize the pathogenic biofilm "slime" organism/layer.

Do organisms live outside the biofilm or are they all inside the biofilm?

No, they can also live outside the biofilm, too.  They will seek out and signal one another, however, to accumulate in biofilm.

How do pathogens move to other areas of the body?

Single pathogens can migrate outside the biofilm - they go in and out of the colony.  Also, biofilm can fragment and the fragment can float to other areas and attach elsewhere, carrying a small part of the colony to a new location.

Not only does biofilm fragment, it also relocates via "rolling, streaming, and rippling."  Biofilm can also "disperse seeds," meaning the biofilm can release single pathogens (planktonic cells) into the bloodstream and surrounding areas.  http://www.cs.montana.edu/ross/personal/intro-biofilms-s4.htm

What are Biofilms?

A biofilm is a multicellular colony of multiple species of microorganisms and extracellular materials (materials outside of cells) that stick to one another or a surface.  In some camps, biofilms are referred to as "slime," although when viewed with a microscope, fibers are present.  The growth and proliferation of disease causing pathogens depends on biofilm.  Although not all bacteria form biofilm, Lyme spirochetes are shown to aggregate within them.

Biofilms act like an intelligent community of pathogens, and pathogens that are embedded within them  appear to use and have access to:

1.  A signaling communication system.

2.  A pump system to transport internal and external fluids and solids and a network of channels to transport them.

3.  Quorum sensing (messaging) ability.

Read the following biofilm protocol keys.

BIOFILMS FORM A PROTECTIVE BARRIER AGAINST ANTIBIOTICS...or NOT?

"Biofilms possess a remarkable resistance to antibiotics sometimes more than 1000 times that of planktonic (free-floating) cells.  Although the cause of this resistance is still under intensive investigation, several mechanisms of resistance have been advanced."2

Failure of the Antimicrobic to Penetrate the Biofilm Matrix

"In the early history of biofilm research, this was a favored hypothesis.  However, research by a number of investigators showed that in most cases, antibiotics readily penetrate to the substratum surface. Except in specific circumstances, lack of penetration is not considered a significant contributor to antimicrobic resistance."3

It used to be thought that the slimy matrix prevented antibiotic penetration, and while deep penetration is limited, there are some startling defense mechanisms that help biofilms stay alive:

1.  Degradation of the Antimicrobial, Antibiotic Agent

"Microbial enzymes may degrade the antibiotic or disinfectant, as they penetrate the biofilm.

The degradation of penicillin by the enzyme penicillinase (β-lactamase), or the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide by catalase are examples."4

2.  Quiescence - Dormancy - Phase of Growth

We have already discussed this mechanism in the information above this section, "To starve or not to starve the biofilm?"   Here is a snipet again:

"Nutrient limitation, whether it be in stationary phase culture or in the depths of a biofilm, may increase resistance by reducing metabolic activity.  These cells, having fewer metabolic points of attack, are less susceptible to the action of antimetabolites like antibiotics and disinfectants."5

Dormant, early growth phase cells, and those cells deep within the biofilm (as opposed to those located more toward its surface) are less able to be easily eradicated.

3.  Bacterial ability to morph

"Within moments of the time a bacterial cell adheres to a surface it undergoes a remarkable change. Many genes are repressed and others are induced to the sum amounting to as much as 40 percent of the total bacterial genome. Many of the newly synthesized proteins play a role in antimicrobic resistance. Some constitute efflux pumps capable of excreting antibiotics at a rate that keeps the concentration below lethal levels."

What this means is that bacterial cells can change, resulting in becoming resistant to antibiotics.  They can also pump out and get rid of chemicals and things they know to be toxic - ie, antibiotics.

4.  Persister Cells & Neutralizer Cells

Groups of free floating cells (nearby, but outside of the biofilm) neutralize the effect of antibiotics and antimicrobials, creating slow or incomplete penetration.  These neutralizing cells get to work and spawn free floating "persister cells" that are protected from antibiotics and thereby resistant to them.  However, outside of the biofilm, persisters can be attacked by immune cells and pedator protozoa.

"Following exposure to an antimicrobic which kills much of the biofilm, these persisters reactivate by producing antitoxin proteins that inactivate the toxins and permit resumption of metabolic activity and growth."What this means is that persister cells, in effect, produce their own "anti-venom antidote" chemicals.

*References: 2-7, Montana State University, The Biofilms Hypertextbook

Persister cells can also patrol the area around the biofilm, acting like sentries to signal the community when antimicrobial chemicals are detected and recognized nearby.  By communicating the threat, the persister cells protect the live colony.  Pathogens outside the colony can then retreat into the protective matrix of the biofilm, safe from antibiotics and the immune cells, while free floating neutralizer cells release substances around the biofilm that make antibiotics less effective.

The persisters become adept at identifying chemicals that could cause a threat.  Although persister cells can be killed by immune cells, once back inside the biofilm they are protected.

(This is why combination formulas are used in our protocols and why antimicrobials are juggled and switched out.)

This proliferation of these kinds of protector cells happens when the cells sense the presence of antibiotics and antimicrobials.  Once the antibiotic is taken out of the system, the cells once again become susceptible to antimicrobials.  (Current (2012) antibiotics target the more unprotected, surface-living cells, so newer research is being done to develop more antibiotics to target cells situated deeper within the biofilm.)

It has been suggested in some schools of thought that pathogenic biofilms are difficult to eradicate if the antibiotic is not administered effectively or correctly.  The highly sticky, protective barrier prevents deeper  penetration of antibiotics, however the above research shows that more superficial penenetration is accomplished.

DIFFERENCES IN DNA

A remarkable discovery was made showing differences in DNA of planktonic cells (free floating outside of the biofilm) vs. the same species of biofilm-protected cells

"The (gene expressions) are strikingly different, telling us that the planktonic and biofilm forms of a single species are expressing different genes, and therefore carrying out different activities.

"So what?  Beyond the intellectual interest this holds for biofilm scientists and engineers, what practical use does this knowledge have?  One example is in the development of antibiotics.  These drugs traditionally have been developed to kill planktonic bacteria (outside the biofilm) under the assumption that they would kill the same bacteria wherever they were found. We now know, however, that:"

  1. Planktonic bacteria are more susceptible to antimicrobial chemicals designed to kill them than are biofilm bacteria, and
  2. Many of the infections plaguing humans are actually caused by bacteria in the biofilm mode of growth, not the planktonic mode of growth

"Put these two things together with the fact that traditional antibiotics have been designed for and tested on bacterial cells in their relatively unprotected, planktonic state and we can begin to understand why it is that antibiotics don't work well on these same bacteria when they exist in a biofilm--the same bacterium is different in the biofilm state than in the planktonic state for which the antibiotic was designed and tested!"  8 Reference:  Montana State University, Hypertextbook

MULTIPLE SPECIES

Biofilms are composed of multiple species and different types of pathogens.  This is called "polymicrobial."  Expect that biofilm can house thousands of different species of bacteria, different viruses, parasites, and fungi.  The pathogens aggregate together, then signal one another to secrete the sticky, protective matrix and express proteins.

As biofilms stick to your tissues, inflammation and tissue damage occur.  Along with this, Lyme spirochetes and other pathogens release toxic substances.  In addition, it has been demonstrated in vitro that the body's immune defense cells contribute to inflammation and damage.

"The failure of these phagocytic neutrophiles and macrophages to penetrate the  EPS (biofilm) matrix, and clear the biofilm infection may result in what some refer to a frustrated phagocytosis (Costerton et al. 1999).

"The phagocytic cells frequently lyse (its cell wall dissolves), releasing a shower of pharmacologically active compounds, including hydrogen peroxide, superoxide anion, hydroxyl radicals, singlet oxygen, hypochlorous acid and nitric oxide. These compounds, though toxic to planktonic cells, and cells enclosed in lysosomes, have much less effect on cells enclosed in biofilms. These compounds do however cause inflammation in normal tissue leading to the speculation that much of the damage caused by biofilms is due to the hosts inflammatory response to the infection rather than to the biofilm infection itself. 9 Montana State University, The Biofilms Hypertextbook

Multiple species carry out communication and release enzymes to disperse pathogens and spread.  Since ticks definitely transmit multiple species, your infections may include ones that are bacterial, mold/fungal, protozoan, filarial (worms) and viral.   Add to this fungal conditions like Candida, that form in the gut and any prior pathogens you may have been carrying before your illness.

THE MATRIX

The biofilm forms a matrix - a lattice like structure.  The matrix attracts free floating pathogens and recruits them into the colony.

The matrix is rich in sugars, called extracellular polymeric substance (EPS).  Biofilms are adhesive and protect pathogens from the body's immune system.  Biofilms are both fluid and solid in structure.   In addition to polymers, it is composed of extracellular DNA, proteins that are expressed by the pathogens, polysaccharides, metals, and minerals such as calcium, magnesium and iron, and yeasts.

The different pathogens in the biofilm can feed one another - what is waste to some pathogens may be nutrients for the other - hence, their inter-dependence.

FRAGMENTATION

Once the biofilm reaches certain dimensional depths, it can grow "towers."  Parts of the biofilm can then fragment and break apart, and at the fragmentation site, large numbers of free floating pathogens are released, allowing for the spread of biofilm to new surfaces as well as spread and proliferation of pioneer pathogen cells.

ANTIBIOTICS AND BIOFILM

Several factors affect the growth of biofilms - pH, nutrients available, physical and chemical characteristics of its surface, where it is located, numbers of pathogens present, and whether pathogens can live on their own outside of it.

J. William Costerton is a world leader in the field of biofilm research, having published close to 600 papers on this topic by the year 2011.

"One of Costerton's scientific breakthroughs came in 1999 when he discovered that biofilms damage tissues primarily by triggering inflammation. He suggested an innovative approach to treating chronic diseases by using immune modulators* instead of antibiotics. He says that the antibiotics that have been designed to kill free-floating bacterial cells work poorly against cells growing in slime-enclosed biofilms.

"So the strategy has changed from killing the bacteria, which creates an antibiotic resistance, to instead getting the bacteria to stop making toxins or to leave their protected slime caves and take their chances with the body's defenses." Click for reference  USE a Saline solution internally this will reduce the inflammation as well as target the bacteria and fungi in the body causing this immune response

*This is why Immune Modulators like Transfer Factor, Samento, TOA-Free Cat's Claw, Cat's Claw, and other immune modulators are included in our protocols.

In a differing point of view regarding antibiotic use, the Marshall Protocol (MP)*,  which addresses chronic illness, suggests that antibiotics are effective against biofilm, but only if the specific antibiotic used has been shown to be effective in biofilm illness, and if it is employed in a specific therapeutic way:  Very low dose, pulsed, and administered over long periods of time.   MP suggests that high dose, short term antibiotics contribute to multiplication of antibiotic resistant persister cells and do not effectively remove biofilm. Click for 2008 reference

*Please note that we are neither for or against the Marshall Protocol.  We still don't like long term antibiotic use at this point (2012), bc we feel it contributes to biofilm virulence.  MP is still seen as controversial in many circles.  In the future, newer antibiotics will be developed that address biofilm.

Based on this, it seems crucial that the right antibiotics are administered effectively.  It possibly demonstrates one reason why blasting the body with short term, high levels of antibiotics doesn't always eliminate Lyme Disease or biofilm illness.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3132871/

Biofilm is regarded as a living, "thinking" organism, one with defense mechanisms, rather than simply a slimy structure under which individual organisms can hide.  This organism differentiates itself into several functions - it is regarded as a body unto itself that must be recognized and addressed.

"Once a large group (of pathogens) congregates, complex features of biofilms begin to emerge. The bacteria leave room for nutrient rivers to flow between them.  The bacteria differentiate. Some are the powerhouses and some are the waste removers.  Biofilms have all of the characteristics of tissues or organs, or even animals. A complex, multicellular organism emerges from a mass of undifferentiated precursors. Biofilms are organisms unto themselves."   Click for Reference

Over time, biofilm can change from a slimy, sticky, elastic substance to a brittle solid.  An example of this phenomenon is calculus (hardened plaque) on a tooth.  This is why "Mineral Busters" are added to the biofilm protocol to attempt to prevent these calcifications.

Biofilms and Implants - It has been discovered that biofilm can form in the tissues around medical devices like catheters, implants like spinal implants, dental, plastic surgery types, including breast implants, cheek, chin, and orthopedic implants like hip replacement and prosthetic limbs.

Biofilms play a role in chronic disease.  Common chronic illnesses like Endocarditis, Urinary Tract Infections, bone infections, and Cystic Fibrosis involve biofilm.

Forget Gold- Only Food, Tools and Resourcefulness Will Matter In a Mad Max Scenario

Monday, May 13, 2013 6:16 Print this story

When we talk about Mad Max scenarios, we are talking about events where the world as we know it no longer exists. No banks, no credit cards, no grocery stores, no gas stations, and a landscape devoid of law & order.---It’s an outlier to be sure, but one that has been experienced by millions of people throughout history. Worst case scenarios do happen. And when they do, the activities associated with the regular flow of commerce as we understand them today cease completely.---Historically, this has happened more often than not as a result of economic calamity stemming from states that take on massive amounts of debt, with the end result being widespread war and total economic destruction.---Should such events come to pass in our modern era, everything we believe to be valuable today will be redefined, and only those assets of real worth will maintain their trading power.---According to cyclical analyst and historian Martin Armstrong, the dominant objects of value during a socio-economic collapse are those goods that can be used immediately for the purposes of survival or barter.  A number of readers have asked ‘doesn’t gold survive a Mad Max event?’

Historically, the answer to that is no. Dark Ages seem to be the total collapse of all economic activity on a collective basis. This is why there are huge gaps in the monetary history in Greece, Western Europe after the fall of Rome, and even in Japan. The duration is rather consistent – 600 years.---What happens is civilization swings to its opposite – no-civilization where just enclaves emerge with little to no interaction with others.

The Mad Max outcome is the swing back to barter where the dominant object of value first becomes food, then tools (bronze), and only after all that becomes stable, we see the return to luxury which is when gold and silver come back. You cannot eat them. They are valuable only based upon the demand of others. If they want food, sorry even gold goes off the map during such periods. It is typically grain or in the case of Japan bags of rice.---Historically, society waits until it is too late and then they just massacre the protesters.

Martin Armstrong via Prepper Website

We cannot stress enough that these kinds of events, where civilization has regressed to what essentially amounts to hunting and gathering, has happened repeatedly and on a cyclical basis on numerous occasions over the last 5000 years.  It will happen again. This is inevitable.--We are on the very cusp of such a frightening outcome right now. Perhaps we can avoid the same outcome as Rome, a collapse which led to hundreds of years of war and impoverishment during the Dark Ages. But the reality is that we are well on our way to repeating their mistakes.----Our country has taken on so much debt that it will require the labor of generations in order to pay it back, something that is very rapidly becoming improbable. Half of the households in the In North America are dependent on monthly government distributions just to make ends meet. Those who are paying the taxes to cover these expenses are either losing their jobs or experiencing wage reductions, putting further strain on the system as a whole. Trillions of dollars in wealth are being transferred from the poor and working class into the hands of banking cartels, the military industrial complex, and elite members of the global oligarchy.----Confidence by the masses may well be lost in short order. We’re seeing pockets of this all over the world. It’s like a viral contagion. First it starts on a small scale, and then spreads uncontrollably to all corners of the globe.---Gold, while it is certainly a store of value, will often take a backseat in the midst of collapse simply because food, shelter and safety will be the only concerns that matter. This isn’t to say you should not own gold and silver to use as a mechanism of exchange, just that you need to understand  its viability as a barter tool based on the crisis at hand.---Just as it was a thousand years ago during the period following the breakup of Rome, in Argentina today farmers are hoarding  grain while their currency and country’s economy collapses.---Food is a dominant asset. Tools, whether they be firearms or plows, become dominant assets in a world where you have to depend on yourself or a small community to survive. Your resourcefulness, such as an ability to put a roof over your head, grow your own food, purify water or preserve your food for winter, will be dominant assets.---It may take a decade or it may happen overnight. But one thing’s for sure: a pan-global collapse is coming. And when it does, make sure you are in possession of the dominant objects of value. Failure to understand history and prepare for the future will mean certain doom for millions. But Mad Max scenarios are survivable for those with the wherewithal to prepare.---This article has been contributed by SHTF Plan. Effects of green tea catechins with or without caffeine on glycemic control in adults:                                   a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Am J Clin Nutr. 2013 Apr;97(4):750-62

Authors: Zheng XX, Xu YL, Li SH, Hui R, Wu YJ, Huang XH

Abstract
BACKGROUND: The effect of green tea catechins (GTCs) with or without caffeine on glycemic control is controversial.
OBJECTIVE: We aimed to identify and quantify the effects of GTCs or GTC-caffeine mixtures on glucose metabolism in adults.
DESIGN: A comprehensive literature search was conducted to identify relevant trials of GTCs with or without caffeine on markers of glycemic control [fasting blood glucose (FBG), fasting blood insulin (FBI), glycated hemoglobin (Hb A1c), and homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR)]. Weighted mean differences were calculated for net changes by using fixed-effects models. Prespecified subgroup analyses were performed to explore the influence of covariates on net changes in FBG and FBI concentrations.
RESULTS: Twenty-two eligible randomized controlled trials with 1584 subjects were identified. Pooled analyses showed that FBG (-1.48 mg/dL; 95% CI: -2.57, -0.40 mg/dL) decreased significantly with GTCs with or without caffeine, whereas FBI (0.04 μU/mL; 95% CI: -0.36, 0.45 μU/mL), Hb A1c (-0.04%; 95% CI: -0.15, 0.08%), and HOMA-IR (-0.05; 95% CI: -0.37, 0.26) did not. Subgroup analyses indicated that the glucose-lowering effect was apparent when the duration of follow-up was over a median of 12 wk. Overall, no significant heterogeneity was detected for FBG, FBI, Hb A1c, or HOMA-IR.
CONCLUSIONS: The meta-analysis showed that the administration of GTCs with or without caffeine resulted in a significant reduction in FBG. The limited data available on GTCs did not support a positive effect on FBI, Hb A1c, or HOMA-IR. Thus, more large and well-designed trials are needed in the future. This trial was registered at http://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero as CRD42012002139.

Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG) is the most effective cancer chemopreventive polyphenol in green tea

Nutrients. 2012 Nov;4(11):1679-91

Authors: Du GJ, Zhang Z, Wen XD, Yu C, Calway T, Yuan CS, Wang CZ

Abstract
Green tea is a popular drink consumed daily by millions of people around the world. Previous studies have shown that some
polyphenol compounds from green tea possess anticancer activities. However, systemic evaluation was limited. In this study, we determined the cancer chemopreventive potentials of 10 representative polyphenols (caffeic acid, CA; gallic acid, GA; catechin, C; epicatechin, EC; gallocatechin, GC; catechin gallate, CG; gallocatechin gallate, GCG; epicatechin gallate, ECG; epigallocatechin, EGC; and epigallocatechin gallate, EGCG), and explored their structure-activity relationship. The effect of the 10 polyphenol compounds on the proliferation of HCT-116 and SW-480 human colorectal cancer cells was evaluated using an MTS assay. Cell cycle distribution and apoptotic effects were analyzed by flow cytometry after staining with propidium iodide (PI)/RNase or annexin V/PI. Among the 10 polyphenols, EGCG showed the most potent antiproliferative effects, and significantly induced cell cycle arrest in the G1 phase and cell apoptosis. When the relationship between chemical structure and anticancer activity was examined, C and EC did not show antiproliferative effects, and GA showed some antiproliferative effects. When C and EC esterified with GA to produce CG and ECG, the antiproliferative effects were increased significantly. A similar relationship was found between EGC and EGCG. The gallic acid group significantly enhanced catechin's anticancer potential. This property could be utilized in future semi-synthesis of flavonoid derivatives to develop novel anticancer agents.---PMID: 23201840 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

Baby Breastfed By Vegan Mother Dies

http://www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com/baby-breastfed-by-vegan-mother-dies/

May 22, 2013

An 11 month old baby exclusively breastfed by a vegan mother has died and the parents are charged with neglect after an autopsy indicated the baby suffered from deficiencies in vitamin B12 and Vitamin Aboth known to be critical to a child’s development. Vegans have long been advised to take B12 supplements as long term veganism runs the huge risk of serious B12 deficiency as well as other nutrients only found in animal foods such as true Vitamin A.   Beta carotene is not true vitamin A nor does it easily convert to adequate amounts of Vitamin A in the body.

There is a message being communicated, a clear message to other vegans:  abstinence from all animal foods is a danger to one’s health and most particularly, your baby!--It also sends a clear message that what a breastfeeding Mother eats definitely DOES affect the quality of her breastmilk. Many breastfeeding advocates insist that breastmilk will include all a baby needs despite what the Mother eats, but clearly this is not the case.----Traditional cultures took great care to ensure that pregnant and breastfeeding mothers consumed ample amounts of animal foods rich in vitamins A, D, E, K and of course B12. These foods included grassfed butter, pastured eggs, liver, seafood, and fish eggs. Notice that none – NOT ONE of these traditionally sacred foods is plant based!---If you are pregnant and breastfeeding and would like to learn what foods will maximally support the health of your baby while nursing, please check this link for the complete listing of traditionally sacred foods for optimal fetal and baby development. These foods will also ensure the preservation of your own health during pregnancy and lactation which can easily deplete a Mother’s nutritional stores leaving her vulnerable to exhaustion.---*Update:  The vegan parents whose baby died as described in this article were convicted by a French court to 5 years in prison due to the imbalanced vegan diet the mother ate which led to nutrient poor breastmilk and a failure to thrive child who eventually fell ill from severe nutrient deficiency and died without the parents ever seeking proper medical attention.---For more information on how a vegan diet devastates the health of children, read about how a 12 year old vegan was diagnosed with the degenerating bones of an 80 year old.  Dr. Faisal Ahmed MD, a pediatrician treating the child, said that the dangers of forcing children to follow a strict vegan diet need to be publicized.

12 Year Old Vegan Has the Degenerating Bones of 80 Year Old

http://www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com/12-year-old-vegan-has-the-degenerating-bones-of-80-year-old/

A 12 year old girl raised on a strict vegan diet was admitted to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow, Scotland, suffering from a severe form of rickets.  The girl had already experienced multiple fractures and been diagnosed with a degenerated spine comparable to that of an unhealthy 80-year-old woman.---Fox News reports the hospital doctors are under pressure to report the couple to police and social workers. Dr. Faisal Ahmed, a pediatrician treating the child, declined to discuss specifics, but allowed the dangers of forcing children to follow a strict vegan diet need to be publicized.---If raised strictly vegan, the child would almost certainly have severe deficiencies of Vitamins A and D, both of which are essential bone nutrients that can only be obtained from animal productsIn all likelihood, she would also be lacking needed calcium, zinc, B-12 as well as other B vitamins, Vitamin K, the EPA and DHA fatty acids and the sulfur containing amino acids methionine and cysteine.---Although the human body is theoretically capable of converting beta carotene into true Vitamin A, children are not able to do so efficiently if at all.   Sunlight could have provided Vitamin D but only if the family lived outdoors in the tropics and not in a northern clime like Scotland.-----Other Cases of Child Vegans Suffering Severe Nutritional Deficiencies--- Sadly, this is not the first time vegans have been accused of child abuse though it may be the first case involving crippling bone damage.  More typically, vegan babies end up in hospital from malnutrition caused by the use of soy milk instead of infant formula Given soy milk alone, babies end up with severe vitamin, mineral, fatty acid and amino acid deficiencies, which is why soy formula manufacturers are required by law to add methionine and other nutrients that are critical for a baby’s growth.---In 1990, the FDA investigated after a two month old girl in California was hospitalized with severe malnutrition.  Her parents had fed her EdenSoy brand soy milk instead of infant formula. Because of this and a similar incident in Arkansas involving the SoyMoo brand of soy milk, the FDA issued a warning on June 13, 1990.  Since then, most brands of soy milk – but not EdenSoyinclude warning labels in tiny print on their packages.---Clearly, voluntary warning labels have not been enough, and there have been deaths as well as hospitalizations of vegan babies fed soy milk.  In May 2007, vegan parents in Atlanta were found guilty of the death of their six month old baby.  To supplement the mother’s inadequate supply of breast milk the parents had fed their son soy milk and apple juice The baby was only 3 1/2 pounds when he died of starvation in April 2004.---Other vegan parents have also been charged and found guilty, including a New York couple convicted of murder and a Florida couple of manslaughter. In London, two vegans received a sentence of three years’ community rehabilitation after they admitted starving their baby to death.--And now we have the tragic case of this 12 year old girl in Scotland. Although finally getting medical treatment, her prognosis remains grim.

NOTICE AND DEMAND FOR REMOVAL OF ALL DIGITAL ELECTRIC METERS, SMART METERS

From:
(Your house address where the meter is currently installed)

To:

Mr. (Research and add name of area SAC)

Special Agent in Charge

Federal Bureau of Investigation

address

City, State, zip

NOTICE AND DEMAND FOR REMOVAL OF ALL DIGITAL ELECTRIC
METERS, SMART METERS AND/OR RADIATION EMITTING AND SURVEILLANCE DEVICES, NOTICE OF LOSS OF EASEMENT BY CRIMINAL MISCONDUCT

(DATE)

To (Name of your electric company here) and all agents, officers, employees, contractors and interested parties:

1)     This Notice and Demand pertains and applies to (Name of your electric company here)herein “UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER” and it’s electric servicesprovided to the address(es): (PLACE YOUR ADDRESS(ES) HERE AGAIN)

2)     It has come to our attention that a digital electric meter, possibly a “Smart Meter” or a similar device has been installed on our property at the (City or community Location) location or place of occupancy/residence without full disclosure to us, without our informed consent and without compliance with various laws.

3)     We hereby revoke and deny any and all implied, expressed and/or recorded consent, if any exists, for the placement and operation of any Digital Electric Meters or “Smart Meter” and all other utility metering devices which emit electromagnetic radiation (herein “EMR”), or which “monitor” or conduct surveillance, or make recordings of any events and activities within private property that we may occupy, or that may be upgraded to do those things.

4)     “Smart Meters” and Digital utility meters meet the statutory definition of unlawful surveillance devices put forth as “Wiretapping” in United States Code (USC) Title 18, Part 1, Chapter 119, Sec 2511, 2512-- Arizona Revised StatutesTitle 13, Criminal Code Chapter 30, sections 13-3005, 13-3006 and 13-3008 as well as other State and Federal laws, these “Digital Electric Meters and “Smart Meters” are designed and intended to record personal and private events and activities within private structures and properties which constitutes violation of the United States Constitution, Bill of Rights, 4th Amendment guaranteeing all people to be “…secure in their persons, houses…” and to be free of “search”. No search of private property may be lawfully done without a valid, timely and ratified court order (warrant) based on probable cause. Also, because electromagnetic radiation is known to cause cancer and other diseases and injuries installation of any meter with either an EMR transmitter, a switching mode power supply, a transformer or similar devices on a private residence without consent of the occupants and property owner constitutes Assault under United States Code Title 18, Section 113. To attempt the installation of such devices on virtually every private structure is quite clearly criminal misconduct on the part of all those associated and complicit with that attempt. That criminal misconduct causes nullification of all contracts, easements and policy and entitles any property owner, tenant and occupant, in lawful self defense, to remove all such devices immediately without notice, application or administrative process. That criminal misconduct also eliminates any and all right of UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER to charge any fee or penalty or prescribe and terms or conditions in relation to the property owner’s actions to mitigate UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER’s violations and to protect all occupants’ health, safety and privacy. That criminal misconduct is committed by UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER and therefore, UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER has no grounds to deny utility service in retaliation for any action a utility customer deems necessary for self defense.

5)     “Digital Electric Meters”, “Smart Meters” and all digital wireless utility meters emit “packetized” and/or “pulsed” electromagnetic radiation in power densities, timings and volumes known to be harmful and unsafe for exposure to humans, animals and plants, shown to be damaging and dangerous in thousands of published peer-reviewed scientific studies, and known to be particularly harmful to individuals classified as “Sensitive Receptors” who may visit or occupy the above property. This radiation is known to cause cancer, neurological illnesses and injuries, birth defects, childhood leukemia, childhood behavioral disorders and a wide variety of other physical symptoms. In fact, exposure to EMR can exacerbate any vulnerability and provoke injury in any physiological body. The widespread installation of digital electric meters represents reckless and inexcusable endangerment of the public and violation of rights.

6)     “Digital Electric Meters”, “Smart Meters” and all digital wireless utility meters contain “switching mode power supplies” which consume electricity at customers’ expense and are known to disrupt incoming current sine waves and emit “dirty electricity” also known as “electromagnetic smog” also known as “electromagnetic radiation” using structural wiring and grounded plumbing as antennae. This EMR pollution is in volumes known to be unsafe for exposure to humans, animals and plants, has been shown to be damaging and dangerous in thousands of published peer reviewed scientific studies, and is known to be particularly harmful to individuals classified as “Sensitive Receptors” who may visit or occupy the above property. Therefore, installation of digital electric meters is undeniably an endangerment to the public and particularly to occupants of property installed with those meters.

7)     It is not credible that UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER did not perform due diligence by determining the dangers and violations of “Digital Electric Meters”. “Smart Meters” and all digital meters prior to deployment, and it is not credible that UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER does not have information on the biological hazards of electromagnetic radiation which are known to include cancers, neurological diseases and injuries, birth defects and many other symptoms, disease and injuries, so the UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER’s causing those exposures are apparently intentional and criminal, therefore, UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER has no lawful right, privilege, authority or permission to place or operate a “Digital Electric Meter”, “Smart Meter” or any similar device on private property without the prior fully informed and written consent of all occupants, and no right at any time to prevent or object to the removal or replacement, by any interested party, of any device emitting electromagnetic radiation if UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER fails to remove the Digital Electric Meter or Smart Meter on the request. Because installation of any digital or smart meters represents intentional criminal misconduct, and UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER is deliberately installing digital or smart meters, it has, by those criminal violations, lost all right of easement, contract, policy and privilege with the utility customers and all authority reverts to property owners with regard to utility metering.

8)     Whether intentionally or out of ignorance, by installing “Digital Electric Meters” or “Smart Meters”, which have the function and effects of surveillance devices and harmful radiation-emitting devices, UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER has violated the rights of residential occupants, is committing harm to those occupants and has caused possible tort liabilities for the property owners of the above property/address with unlawful surveillance devices and activities and emissions of potentially dangerous electromagnetic radiation in close proximity to occupants who may be vulnerable and who have not received full disclosure from UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER regarding the known health, safety and privacy hazards represented by digital electric meters. UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER must show insurance and indemnification against all known and unknown potential negative effects of digital meter installations. We have not received any notice of any such insurance or indemnification and therefore UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER is failing in its obligations and responsibilities to customers, property owners and occupants. By making such installation, UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER admits violation and accepts all liability for all adverse effects of the meters and all costs of remedy. Because no insurance has been shown, liability falls with the UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER corporation and, separately and fully, the personal liability of all officers and employees of UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER who may have responsibility and authority over policy and dispatch.

9)     UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER has not disclosed the frequencies, volumes, power values, qualities and exposure levels of radiation the digital meters emit, and has not disclosed whether those frequencies could cause harm to animal, human or plant tissues, and has not disclosed at what proximities such harm could occur and has not offered any warranty, claim or indemnification against any negative effects of the meters on its customers as negative effects are known and reported regularly. Digital meters do have switching mode power supplies and transmitters, they do disrupt household current integrity and therefore must be harmful at some locations for some duration of exposure, yet no limits are disclosed by UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER in reckless disregard for the health and safety of the public.

10)UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER Has not disclosed or obtained consent from customers with regard to what data will be collected by its digital meters on personal and private activities on private property, where that data will be stored, who will access that data, how that data will be shared and managed, how the subjects of that data can be assured of their privacy, how they can review and correct any errors, how that data will be secured, how victims of privacy invasion or mishandling of private data will be compensated and restored and how UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER claims to have gained the unconstitutional authority to record, collect, store and distribute private and personal data taken from utility customers without informed consent. Utility customers have generally not granted permission for such surveillance, nor have they been properly and fully informed of it. Even if UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER may claim to keep data “safe” which is statistically not possible, UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER itself has no consent to collect and hold personal information, so personal is not “safe” having been exposed to parties within UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER who have not been permitted to collect and view that data.

11) UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER may claim a historical easement (right of access) to connect an analog mechanical meter (only) to the electrical service of the above addresses for the purpose of recording and billing total electrical usage once per month. UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER DOES NOT have easement to monitor activities and events INSIDE THE HOME, and does not have easement to transmit electromagnetic radiation FROM, ON, IN AND THROUGH THE ABOVE PROPERTIES, and affected parties have not knowingly or willingly granted or permitted any such easement or access and, if any such permission is presumed or claimed, all such permission is hereby denied. UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER is therefore in violation of its easement as of this notice and has no right, authority, privilege or consent to place or operate a “Digital Electric Meter” or “Smart Meter” or any radiation emitting or monitoring device on our properties  and/or place of occupancy, and all such devices must be removed immediately from our properties and replaced with safe and lawful analog mechanical meters that have no capability of surveillance or emission of radiation.

12) These“Digital Electric Meters” and “Smart Meters” work on a wireless radio frequency (RF) system, we are concerned about the meters’ threat to our health. There are already over 2,000 studies showing the negative effects of RF radiation, despite the manufacturers’ safety claims. Since the installation of the meter installed on our home, we have noted symptoms such as headaches, rapid heart beat, and tinnitus.

A growing body of research points to the health risk of RF and extremely low frequency (ELF) radio waves. Studies show that RF radiation from cell phones have been linked to brain damage, early onset Alzheimer’s, senility, DNA damage, and sperm die-offs; the RF signals from both the Digital Electric Meters and Smart Meters are much stronger, so the effects will be proportionately dramatic. The World Health Organization has even reversed its stance on RF from cell phones, now calling them “possibly carcinogenic,” and the American Academy of Environmental Medicine has called for a moratorium on the installation of transmitting utility meters:

The most current medical literature raises credible questions about genetic and cellular effects, hormonal effects, male fertility, blood/brain barrier damage and increased risk of certain types of cancers from RF or ELF levels similar to those emitted from “smart meters.” Children are placed at particular risk for altered brain development, and impaired learning and behavior….The American Academy of Environmental Medicine has found it unacceptable from a public health standpoint to implement this technology until these serious medical concerns are resolved.

(ADD ANY AND ALL SYMPTOMS YOU ARE EXPERIENCING IN THIS SECTION - ALSO ANY COMMENTS CONCERNING THE NEGATIVE EFFECTS  ON YOUR BUSINESS OR CLIENTEL - OR THOSE IN YOUR HOME INCLUDING PETS)

13) Understand that you may not install or operate any radiation emitting monitoring device on this/these property/properties regardless of any damage or harm that device may or may not cause.

14) As qualified, rightful, authorized and interested parties we do hereby demand the immediate removal of all “Digital Electric Meters and “Smart Meters”, switching mode power supplies, radiation emitting devices and surveillance/monitoring devices from our property and place of occupancy as they violate Laws and statutes (above) and our rights and we have full authority as property owners and/or occupants to refuse any such device. Because UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER has threatened and implied intention to install unlawful devices on our property, we must approve in advance with fully informed written consent, the installation, operation and control of all equipment, systems, methods and policies that may affect ourselves and our property, which may emit electromagnetic radiation or which may cause or allow data to be collected and records made of private and personal activities on our property.

15) UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER is hereby demanded and expected, within 21 days to remove all “Digital Electric Meters” or “Smart Meters”,  and similar devices from the above property or show with conclusive evidence and a sworn statement by an identified, responsible, authorized and qualified officer of  the UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER that the metering devices it has placed on our property are: (a) Not conducting and not capable of conducting monitoring and/or surveillance of private activities and events on the property, and (b) not emitting or capable of emitting any electromagnetic radiation which may affect biological organisms or be measurable on the property. (c) Not “upgradable” to record daily usage data or emit radiation at a later time. (d) Not converting alternating current to direct current which causes “dirty electricity” EMR pollution on the property.

16) If, within 21 days of delivery of this notice, UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER fails to replace all “Digital Electric Meters or “Smart Meters”,  and similar devices as described above with non radiation-emitting devices which have no capability or “upgradable” capability to gather time-of-day electrical usage information from the property and have no capability or “upgradable” capability to gather and record individual instances of electrical consumption, and have no capability or “upgradable” capability to emit electromagnetic radiation, we will, in self defense, lawfully and rightfully remove the offending meter and replace it with a safe and legally compliant analog mechanical meter, rated and calibrated to common metering standards and you will be required to calculate billing from the readings provided by that meter under the plan of which we have agreed to. By failing to correct the problems represented aboveUTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER has lost any real or presumed authority, right, privilege or permission to impede, discourage or penalize our mitigations of it’s violations and must accept the data provided by our replacement device without recourse. We will record and report electric usage measurements from the meter being removed and we will return it to UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER, again, at UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER’s expense. At no time will we attempt to use power without paying for it or in any way attempt to prevent UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER from receiving fair compensation for the energy it provides. During our replacement of the digital meter, when our house main and/or breakers are turned off, and current loads have been removed from the meter, if the meter registers electrical usage or consumption, UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER and its officers may be subject to charges of commercial fraud and theft. Consumption of electricity by the meter itself, which we are presumably being billed for, has not been disclosed or approved by us, and is theft.  UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER executives will be held personally responsible for any such theft and fraud.

17) If UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER fails or refuses to timely comply with this demand for removal of Digital Electric Meter or Smart Meter/s as stipulated above we are then entitled, in lawful self defense, to damage and/or destroy any locks that may impede our removal of that Digital/Smart meter, we may remove and replace the meter with an analog mechanical meter of our choosing, and we may not be held responsible for any damage to the Digital/Smart Meter or any related equipment upon its removal and delivery to UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER and we will return the offending meter and parts to UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER on a schedule convenient and acceptable to us if UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER chooses to receive it. Any hesitation to accept and sign for return of UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER’s digital meter will be indication that UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER has abandoned claim of that meter and its value, if any exists.

18) If UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER fails or refuses to timely (21 days or less as stipulated above) comply with this demand for removal of all “Smart Meters”, we are entitled to be reimbursed and made whole by UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER for all costs of time, expenses, equipment, materials, services, consultations, deliveries, risks, nuisances, frustrations, medical examinations, medical treatments, losses and damages and violations of rights incurred by the effects of the digital meter and the replacement of the digital meter with a safe and lawful analog mechanical meter of our choosing. UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER is liable for all costs associated with our demands for removal, the removal of, and return of the digital meter/s to UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER, and for reimbursement of all costs of collection and pursuit of same and a penalty assessment for having caused us necessity to handle the meter replacement ourselves when it is clearly the responsibility of UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER to have done so upon this Notice and upon any request.

19) If UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER fails or refuses to timely (21 days or less as stipulated above) comply with this demand for meter replacement and/or fails to rebut all points herein with facts, evidence, truth and law with a sworn statement (affidavit) by a fully identified, responsible and qualified officer of UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER, then UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER and all of its Directors, Administrators, Managers, employees, installers, contractors and agents are presumed given this notice and thereby agree with, and acquiesce to all terms, conditions, declarations, assertions, representations, claims and statements in this notice without recourse and are liable for all costs, damages and injuries caused by the violating devices and the mitigations that we may deem necessary.

20)      If UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER refuses, obstructs, evades or withholds cooperation in our delivery and/or return of the removed equipment and parts, that will represent that UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER has no claim or interest in those items and that the parts and equipment may be retained or discarded by us by any method and at any time of our choosing.

21) If UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER fails to timely (21 days) replace the offending meter with a safe and lawful analog mechanical meter, the replacement analog mechanical meter we install will be calibrated and zeroed upon installation, and within specifications for standard industry use. To assure fair and accurate billing we will include a report of the date and time of the meter replacement and the final readings on the digital meter removed and UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER must then rely on the readings of the meter we provide. We are not attempting, nor do we expect to, avoid payment for any electricity at any time and UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER has no reason to allege or suspect any unlawful activity on our part. All actions and intentions expressed in this notice are defensive, lawful, rightful, harmless and consistent with all laws, lawful contracts and easements with the understanding that UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER‘s violations have caused it to lose all written, presumed and implied rights and privileges of easement, contract and policy.

22)We are making no attempt to avoid obligations to pay for electric service at any time and this Notice may not be construed to suggest or imply any such attempt and/or wrongdoing and/or breach of contract. Any contract that may exist regarding easement to maintain an electric meter on our property does not to our knowledge, and may not, provide easement for radiation emissions and surveillance or monitoring of private activities on the property without our express consent which is hereby denied.  All existing power usage plans are to remain in place as agreed upon when service was initiated at these locations

23)All points in this Notice, unless timely (see above) rebutted by fact and law by a responsible, authorized and liable party with first-hand knowledge in a written and sworn rebuttal, are binding and forceful upon UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER and all it’s employees, officers, executives, agents, operatives, contractors and assigns. Rebuttal must be point by point and supported by fact and law and issued from an identified and authorized party. A general denial is not sufficient to diminish the force and effect of this notice and its points. Rebuttal of any point herein does not effect or diminish the binding force and effect of any other point herein. After agreeing to the terms above timely by affirmative response or by failure to timely and factually rebut any point herein, UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER has then and thereby agreed that it may not remove, damage or tamper with the analog mechanical meter that we have installed or will install at a time of our choosing nor may it take any action to discourage or prevent any mitigations we deem necessary against it’s unlawful, unsafe and harmful digital or smart meter. The replacement analog mechanical meter (if not replaced by the UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER) is our property and possession and may not be tampered with without our informed consent. We will report monthly readings according to paragraph 29 below if UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER does not wish to do on-site visual readings. All visits and actions by UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER personnel or officials to and upon our property must be made by appointment at a time of our convenience and with our express approval. All purposes for that visit must be stated in advance and will be supervised by us or our representative. Any activity or presence on our property by UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER personnel or agents not approved by us in advance will constitute criminal trespass and violation of law, and law enforcement will be summoned with request to take all trespassers into custody under formal report of criminal violation.

24)The style and design of the meter chosen by us or by UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER for measuring our utility service does not, will not and cannot be construed to constitute an emergency or a reason for entry on our property without permission by appointment. Any analog mechanical meter that, by our judgment, accurately and safely measures total monthly power usage is an adequate and acceptable device for UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER’s billing purposes and UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER may not make any claim, or demand otherwise.

25)Our analog mechanical meter, if we install one, is calibrated, accurate, and standard, and that model has been in service for many years and does not require any additional “certification”. We assure and guarantee the accuracy and standard function of the meter we install. We are fully responsible for any errors in measurement by our meter. Any challenge to our meter’s accuracy must be accompanied by firm evidence of same.

26)Installation of a radiation-emitting surveillance device is criminal misconduct and has nullified all right, privileges and provisions of UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER’s easement. This notice now represents terms of easement. If UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER tampers with, damages or removes the analog mechanical meter we have installed, or displaces, damages or trespasses upon any property in our possession, by doing so UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER agrees to pay $100,000.00 per incident, due and payable at the time of the tampering, damage, removal or trespass, and must replace all equipment and property to our satisfaction at UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER’s expense and must pay additional costs and charges for any delay, complications and nuisance to us or our tenants and occupants as we may record and present for reimbursement or payment.

27) If our equipment and property is tampered with, damaged or removed by UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER and is not replaced to our satisfaction on the day of tampering, damage or removal, UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER agrees to pay, at that time, an additional $50,000.00, payable and due 24 hours from the time of tampering, damage or removal. Unpaid balance on all amounts due will accrue interest at the maximum rate allowable by law, and UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER will be fully liable and obligated for reimbursement of all costs and expenses of collection as those costs may be incurred by us.

28)We hereby rescind and revoke any part or provision of any prior or other contract, easement, agreement and/or covenant, written, spoken, implied or presumed which may be in conflict with, or additional to, the terms, conditions and representations herein. The installation of a radiation-emitting and/or surveillance device on our property is criminal misconduct and therefore has caused UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER’s loss of right of easement, right of contract and right of policy. As of the time of the unlawful installation of a radiation-emitting and/or surveillance device on our property this document constitutes the only, and the supreme terms of agreement between ourselves and UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER for purposes of providing utility services. Terms of easement are as follows:

a) UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER must make an appointment to enter our property. Any unannounced entry will be criminal trespass.

b) UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER must state all reasons for entry to the property prior to entry.

c) UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER must secure our affirmative approval for that entry and those purposes.

d) All UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER personnel will be supervised by us while on our property.

e) If any activity takes place on our property not approved by us, law enforcement will be called with request to take UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER personnel into custody under formal allegations and complaints of criminal trespass.

f) The sole and only exception is for the UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER to read (and read only) the monthly usage data from the analog mechanical meter should they choose to do so.  NO other access is authorized or approved as stated above.

29)This notice gives UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER fair notice and time to replace our “Digital Electric Meter or Smart meter with a safe and lawful analog mechanical meter. If UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER fails to do so timely it is endangering our health, safety and rights, and we are then entitled to any reasonable action in self defense. In self defense we are entitled to violate the law if necessary and be held innocent of those violations. In the case of our self defense UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER may not object to, or interfere with our choice of analog mechanical meter and may not deny any essential public utility service in retaliation.

30)                        Some utility companies complain that they no longer have resources to read meters on site. It is common practice, when meters are impractical to read on site, such as in rural locations, for the utility customer to call or write in and report the meter reading to the UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER once per month. We are willing and able to report our meter readings monthly so that UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER does not have to perform field service to read our meter. UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER may, by appointment, visit our property up to twice per year to verify our reports. Unless other agreeable arrangements are made, we will write our meter reading on our monthly utility bill voucher coupon. We will assume this is agreeable to UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER unless you request another method of reporting which is acceptable to us.

31) Any portion of this Notice not rebutted or disputed with fact and law by a responsible, authorized, sworn and fully identified party within the period allowed above will be valid, forceful and binding upon UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER and will represent UTILITY SERVICE PROVIDER’s full agreement with those terms and conditions.  Comments or rebuttals concerning either “Digital Electric Meters” or “Smart Meters” must be forwarded to the Academy of Environmental Medicine for input and review for accuracy.

32)Any portion of this Notice found or thought to be invalid will not affect or diminish the force and power of any other portion.

33)Notice to principal is notice to agent and notice to agent is notice to principal. All rights are fully reserved.

34) Delivery of this document by Certified mail represents and constitutes legal service.

Notice of Entry into Evidence

35)This Notice and Demand shall be entered into evidence in any civil or criminal proceeding that may arise in connection with the subject matter set forth herein and will supersede any document not authored and sworn by an authorized, qualified, responsible and liable party.

Grow 100 lbs. Of Potatoes In 4 Square Feet

Quite the clever gardening tip here folks! Today’s feature includes tips from three different sources for growing potatoes vertically (in layers) instead of spread out in rows across your garden. If you have limited garden space or want to try some nifty gardening magic, this could be a great option for you.

First, there’s this article from The Seattle Times: It’s Not Idaho, But You Still Can Grow Potatoes [1]:

The potatoes are planted inside the box, the first row of boards is installed and the dirt or mulch can now be added to cover the seed potatoes. As the plant grows, more boards and dirt will be added.

You plant in one bottom layer, boarding up the sides of each layer and adding dirt as you go higher (you wait until the plants have grown a bit before adding a new layer). While new potatoes are growing in the top layers, remove the boards from the first layer at the bottom to carefully dig out any that are ready for harvesting. Fill the dirt back in and board up the box again. You move up the layers and harvest as they are ready. I imagine the new potatoes in the first couple bottom layers would be somewhat awkward to get at but as you move higher–not so bad.

I traced the information provided in the article to Irish Eyes Garden Seeds, they also advise you can skip the box and try growing them in a barrel or wire cage instead.

In another article on The Seattle Times (found here [2]), I came across a blog post from Sinfonian’s Square Foot Garden [3] that details his attempt using this box method, he added this tip for a better yield (Update: link removed since page is no longer online) :

Greg from Irish-Eyes Garden City Seeds let me know that Yukon Golds, and all early varieties set fruit once and do not do well in towers. You only get potatoes in the bottom 6 inches, which is what I got. Late season alternatives to yukon gold are Yellow Fin and Binjte.

Bonus! For a handy project sheet, The Seattle Times has a nice image file detailing the steps (click to view the original):

Imagine growing all those potatoes in a just a few square feet–and how drastically reduced the weeding job will be! So Clever.

Reader Update: Here’s some info sent in by Christine who made a bin using wood pallets:

Last weekend, I was inspired by the Tip Nut potato bin – grow 100 lbs in 4 square feet. As nice as it looked, it seemed to be very complicated, especially unscrewing slats. Being a “just do it” kind of person, I asked my husband to build me one using pallets — which are free. He picked some up, but I realized that they were enormous, so he cut them in half and made side by side compost / potato growing bins.

The Tip Nut plan called for unscrewing the bottom portions to get the grown potatoes out. Rod attached pieces of wood to hold the front pallet in place and to allow you to slide it up like a window. I took books of hay to stuff in the openings of the potato bin so the dirt wouldn’t fall out. We’ll see how it does.

Here’s a photo:

Unfortunately we placed it up against our neighbor’s fence. On the other side is their dog, who our Puggle Feeney loves to visit. He is always trying to dig under the fence. With the bins in place over his digging spot, the poor guy jumped into the compost bin and got stuck!

Christine’s Update: After having it in place for a couple of weeks, I discovered that the local cats think it makes a fine litter box, so I’ve added a frame on the top with chicken wire to keep them out, but allow the sunlight and water in. See her page here for lots more info and tips: Food Security 2009 [5].

Update: Reed Screening Towers
(Spring 2011)

Sunset.com [6]: Here’s another project using different materials but grown with the same basic idea. These are made with reed screening wrapped around tomato cages (to give them shape) and then secured to the ground with rebar stakes.

To get started, a single layer of seed potatoes are planted, a few inches of compost and rice straw is added and then as the vines grow taller, they are topped off with more rice straw for the tubers to grow in (no more soil is added).

At the end of the season, remove the bamboo screening and watch the potatoes tumble out!

Changing Gut Bacteria Through Diet Affects Brain Function

UCLA researchers now have the first evidence that bacteria ingested in food can affect brain function in humans. In an early proof-of-concept study of healthy women, they found that women who regularly consumed beneficial bacteria known as probiotics through yogurt showed altered brain function, both while in a resting state and in response to an emotion-recognition task. ---The study, conducted by scientists with UCLA's Gail and Gerald Oppenheimer Family Center for Neurobiology of Stress and the Ahmanson-Lovelace Brain Mapping Center at UCLA, appears in the June edition of the peer-reviewed journal Gastroenterology.---The discovery that changing the bacterial environment, or microbiota, in the gut can affect the brain carries significant implications for future research that could point the way toward dietary or drug interventions to improve brain function, the researchers said.---"Many of us have a container of yogurt in our refrigerator that we may eat for enjoyment, for calcium or because we think it might help our health in other ways," said Dr. Kirsten Tillisch, an associate professor of medicine at UCLA's David Geffen School of Medicine and lead author of the study. "Our findings indicate that some of the contents of yogurt may actually change the way our brain responds to the environment. When we consider the implications of this work, the old sayings 'you are what you eat' and 'gut feelings' take on new meaning."--Researchers have known that the brain sends signals to the gut, which is why stress and other emotions can contribute to gastrointestinal symptoms. This study shows what has been suspected but until now had been proved only in animal studies: that signals travel the opposite way as well.--"Time and time again, we hear from patients that they never felt depressed or anxious until they started experiencing problems with their gut," Tillisch said. "Our study shows that the gut-brain connection is a  The small study involved 36 women between the agestwo-way street."  of 18 and 55. Researchers divided the women into three groups: one group ate a specific yogurt containing a mix of several probiotics -- bacteria thought to have a positive effect on the intestines -- twice a day for four weeks; another group consumed a dairy product that looked and tasted like the yogurt but contained no probiotics; and a third group ate no product at all.--Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans conducted both before and after the four-week study period looked at the women's brains in a state of rest and in response to an emotion-recognition task in which they viewed a series of pictures of people with angry or frightened faces and matched them to other faces showing the same emotions. This task, designed to measure the engagement of affective and cognitive brain regions in response to a visual stimulus, was chosen because previous research in animals had linked changes in gut flora to changes in affective behaviors. The researchers found that, compared with the women who didn't consume the probiotic yogurt, those who did showed a decrease in activity in both the insula -- which processes and integrates internal body sensations, like those form the gut -- and the somatosensory cortex during the emotional reactivity task. Further, in response to the task, these women had a decrease in the engagement of a widespread network in the brain that includes emotion-, cognition- and sensory-related areas. The women in the other two groups showed a stable or increased activity in this network--During the resting brain scan, the women consuming probiotics showed greater connectivity between a key brainstem region known as the periaqueductal grey and cognition-associated areas of the prefrontal cortex. The women who ate no product at all, on the other hand, showed greater connectivity of the periaqueductal grey to emotion- and sensation-related regions, while the group consuming the non-probiotic dairy product showed results in between . The researchers were surprised to find that the brain effects could be seen in many areas, including those involved in sensory processing and not merely those associated with emotion, Tillisch said- The knowledge that signals are sent from the intestine to the brain and that they can be modulated by a dietary change is likely to lead to an expansion of research aimed at finding new strategies to prevent or treat digestive, mental and neurological disorders, said Dr. Emeran Mayer, a professor of medicine, physiology and psychiatry at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and the study's senior author.” There are studies showing that what we eat can alter the composition and products of the gut flora -- in particular, that people with high-vegetable, fiber-based diets have a different composition of their microbiota, or gut environment, than people who eat the more typical Western diet that is high in fat and carbohydrates," Mayer said. "Now we know that this has an effect not only on the metabolism but also affects brain function."-The UCLA researchers are seeking to pinpoint particular chemicals produced by gut bacteria that may be triggering the signals to the brain. They also plan to study whether people with gastrointestinal symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain and altered bowel movements have improvements in their digestive symptoms which correlate with changes in brain response.---Meanwhile, Mayer notes that other researchers are studying the potential benefits of certain probiotics in yogurts on mood symptoms such as anxiety. He said that other nutritional strategies may also be found to be beneficial.--By demonstrating the brain effects of probiotics, the study also raises the question of whether repeated courses of antibiotics can affect the brain, as some have speculated. Antibiotics are used extensively in neonatal intensive care units and in childhood respiratory tract infections, and such suppression of the normal microbiota may have longterm consequences on brain development.-Finally, as the complexity of the gut flora and its effect on the brain is better understood, researchers may find ways to manipulate the intestinal contents to treat chronic pain conditions or other brain related diseases, including, potentially, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease and autism.--Answers will be easier to come by in the near future as the declining cost of profiling a person's microbiota renders such tests more routine, Mayer said.---The study was funded by Danone Research. Mayer has served on the company's scientific advisory board. Three of the study authors (Denis Guyonnet, Sophie Legrain-Raspaud and Beatrice Trotin) are employed by Danone Research and were involved in the planning and execution of the study (providing the products) but had no role in the analysis or interpretation of the results.-----Story Source--The above story is reprinted from materials provided by University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Health Sciences, via Newswise. --Journal Reference-Kirsten Tillisch, Jennifer Labus, Lisa Kilpatrick, Zhiguo Jiang, Jean Stains, Bahar Ebrat, Denis Guyonnet, Sophie Legrain-Raspaud, Beatrice Trotin, Bruce Naliboff, Emeran A. Bacteria in the Gut May Influence Brain Development

One type of bacteria normally found in the gut is E. coli. E. coli bacteria serve the useful task of keeping other bacterial organisms in check (however, the O157:H7 E. coli strain produces a potent toxin). ----Feb. 1, 2011 — A team of scientists from around the globe have found that gut bacteria may influence mammalian brain development and adult behavior. The study is published in the scientific journal PNAS, and is the result of an ongoing collaboration between scientists at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden and the Genome Institute of Singapore.---The research team compared behavior and gene expression in two groups of mice -- those raised with normal microorganisms, and those raised in the absence of microorganisms (or germ-free mice). The scientists observed that adult germ-free mice displayed different behavior from mice with normal microbiota, suggesting that gut bacteria may have a significant effect on the development of the brain in mammals.---The adult germ-free mice were observed to be more active and engaged in more 'risky' behavior than mice raised with normal microorganisms. When germ-free mice were exposed to normal microorganisms very early in life, as adults they developed the behavioral characteristics of those exposed to microorganisms from birth. In contrast, colonizing adult germ-free mice with bacteria did not influence their behavior. Subsequent gene profiling in the brain identified genes and signaling pathways involved in learning, memory and motor control that were affected by the absence of gut bacteria, highlighting the profound changes in the mice that developed in the absence of microorganisms. This suggests that, over the course of evolution, colonization of the gut by microorganisms (in total 1.5 kilograms) in early infancy became integrated into early brain development.-- "The data suggests that there is a critical period early in life when gut microorganisms affect the brain and change the behavior in later life," says Dr. Rochellys Diaz Heijtz, first author of the study. “Not only are signal substances like serotonin and dopamine subject to regulation by bacteria, synapse function also appears to be regulated by colonizing bacteria," continues Prof. Sven Pettersson, coordinator of the study. "However, it is important to note that this new knowledge can be applied only to mice, and that it is too early to say anything about the effect of gut bacteria on the human brain."-- In addition to Sven Pettersson and Rochellys Diaz Heijtz, Prof. Hans Forssberg at Stockholm Brain Institute (SBI) and Karolinska Institutet, and Dr. Martin Hibberd from the Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS) where involved in the research project. The findings presented are a result of a long-standing and ongoing collaboration between Karolinska Institutet and the GIS in Singapore aimed at exploring host-microbe interactions in a systematic manner--- Story Source-The above story is reprinted from materials provided by Karolinska Institutet. --Journal Reference-R. Gut Bacteria Linked to Behavior- That Anxiety May Be in Your Gut, Not in Your Head

Rendering of bacteria. For the first time, researchers at McMaster University have conclusive evidence that bacteria residing in the gut influence brain chemistry and behavior. --The findings are important because several common types of gastrointestinal disease, including irritable bowel syndrome, are frequently associated with anxiety or depression. In addition there has been speculation that some psychiatric disorders, such as late onset autism, may be associated with an abnormal bacterial content in the gut.--- "The exciting results provide stimulus for further investigating a microbial component to the causation of behavioural illnesses," said Stephen Collins, professor of medicine and associate dean research, Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine. Collins and Premysl Bercik, assistant professor of medicine, undertook the research in the Farncombe Family Digestive Health Research Institute-- The research appears in the online edition of the journal Gastroenterology--- For each person, the gut is home to about 1,000 trillion bacteria with which we live in harmony. These bacteria perform a number of functions vital to health: They harvest energy from the diet, protect against infections and provide nutrition to cells in the gut. Any disruption can result in life-threatening conditions, such as antibiotic-induced colitis from infection with the "superbug" Clostridium difficile.--- Working with healthy adult mice, the researchers showed that disrupting the normal bacterial content of the gut with antibiotics produced changes in behaviour; the mice became less cautious or anxious. This change was accompanied by an increase in brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which has been linked to depression and anxiety.-- When oral antibiotics were discontinued, bacteria in the gut returned to normal. "This was accompanied by restoration of normal behaviour and brain chemistry," Collins said.-- To confirm that bacteria can influence behaviour, the researchers colonized germ-free mice with bacteria taken from mice with a different behavioural pattern. They found that when germ-free mice with a genetic background associated with passive behaviour were colonized with bacteria from mice with higher exploratory behaviour, they became more active and daring. Similarly, normally active mice became more passive after receiving bacteria from mice whose genetic background is associated with passive behaviour-- While previous research has focused on the role bacteria play in brain development early in life, Collins said this latest research indicates that while many factors determine behaviour, the nature and stability of bacteria in the gut appear to influence behaviour and any disruption , from antibiotics or infection, might produce changes in behaviour. Bercik said that these results lay the foundation for investigating the therapeutic potential of probiotic bacteria and their products in the treatment of behavioural disorders, particularly those associated with gastrointestinal conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome-- The research was funded by grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada (CCFC).-Story Source--The above story is reprinted from materials provided by McMaster University, via EurekAlert!, a service of AAAS. --Journal Reference-Emmanuel Denou, Wendy Jackson, Jun Lu, Patricia Blennerhassett, Kathy McCoy, Elena F. Copper Destroys Norovirus

May 28, 2013 — New research from the University of Southampton shows that copper and copper alloys will rapidly destroy norovirus -- the highly-infectious sickness bug. The virus can be contracted from contaminated food or water, person-to-person contact, and contact with contaminated surfaces, meaning surfaces made from copper could effectively shut down one avenue of infection.----Worldwide, norovirus is responsible for more than 267 million cases of acute gastroenteritis every year. There is no specific treatment or vaccine, and outbreaks regularly shut down hospital wards and care homes, requiring expensive deep-cleaning, incurring additional treatment costs and resulting in lost working days when staff are infected. Its impact is also felt beyond healthcare, with cruise ships and hotels suffering significant damage to their reputation when epidemics occur among guests.---Professor Bill Keevil, Chair in Environmental Healthcare at the University of Southampton and lead researcher, presented his work at the American Society for Microbiology's 2013 General Meeting last week. The presentation showed norovirus was rapidly destroyed on copper and its alloys, with those containing more than 60 per cent copper proving particularly effective. The contamination model used was designed to simulate fingertip-touch contamination of surfaces.---Professor Keevil from the University's Institute for Life Sciences says: "Copper alloy surfaces can be employed in high-risk areas such as cruise ships and care homes, where norovirus outbreaks are hard to control because infected people can't help but contaminate the environment with vomiting and diarrhea.---"The virus can remain infectious on solid surfaces and is also resistant to many cleaning solutions. That means it can spread to people who touch these surfaces, causing further infections and maintaining the cycle of infection. Copper surfaces, like door handles and taps, can disrupt the cycle and lower the risk of outbreaks."---Story Source--The above story is reprinted from materials provided by University of Southampton, via AlphaGalileo.

Glucose-To-Glycerol Conversion In Long-Lived Yeast Provides Anti-Aging Effects

ScienceDaily (May 8, 2009) — Cell biologists have found a more filling substitute for caloric restriction in extending the life span of simple organisms.--In a study published May 8 in the open-access journal PLoS Genetics, researchers from the University of Southern California Andrus Gerontology Center show that yeast cells maintained on a glycerol diet live twice as long as normal -- as long as yeast cells on a severe caloric-restriction diet. They are also more resistant to cell damage.---Many studies have shown that caloric restriction can extend the life span of a variety of laboratory animals. Caloric restriction is also known to cause major improvements in a number of markers for cardiovascular diseases in humans. This study is the first to propose that "dietary substitution" can replace "dietary restriction" in a living species.---"If you add glycerol, or restrict caloric intake, you obtain the same effect," said senior author Valter Longo. "It's as good as calorie restriction, yet cells can take it up and utilize it to generate energy or for the synthesis of cellular components."---Longo and colleagues Min Wei and Paola Fabrizio introduced a glycerol diet after discovering that genetically engineered long-lived yeast cells that survive up to 5-fold longer than normal have increased levels of the genes that produce glycerol. In fact, they convert virtually all the glucose and ethanol into glycerol. Notably, these cells have a reduced activity in the TOR1/SCH9 pathway, which is also believed to extend life span in organisms ranging from worms to mice.--When the researchers blocked the genes that produce glycerol, the cells lost most of their life span advantage. However, Longo and colleagues believe that the "glucose to glycerol" switch represents only a component of the protective systems required for the extended survival. The current study indicates that glycerol biosynthesis is an important process in the metabolic switch that allows this simple organism to activate its protective systems and live longer.---"This is a fundamental observation in a very simple system," Longo said, "that at least introduces the possibility that you don't have to be calorie-restricted to achieve some of the remarkable protective effects of the hypocaloric diet observed in many organisms, including humans. It may be sufficient to substitute the carbon source and possibly other macronutrients with nutrients that do not promote the "pro-aging" changes induced by sugars."---Funding for the study came from the American Federation for Aging Research and the National Institute on Aging (NIH).-Story Source-The above story is reprinted from materials provided by Public Library of Science, via EurekAlert!, a service of AAAS. -Journal Reference-Wei M, Fabrizio P, Madia F, Hu J, Ge H, et al. Glycerol and it’s Uses

Glycerine, (COH)3H5, or C303H8, is a 3-carbon alcohol, aka glycerol. (1-carbon alcohol is methanol, 2-carbon is ethanol). It is non-volatile and intensely hygroscopic (water-loving), and can be rinsed off any surface with ordinary water. ---It has recently been found to hasten cell maturation and suppress inflammation.

Here is a partial list of its uses:
Reduces or eliminates any skin disturbance, from psoriasis to bug bites or burns. Apply the pure Glycerin USP form. Feels oily, vanishes into the skin in about 10 minutes (signals cells to open transport channels). Cuts off pain and itching by quieting injured cells, not a "nerve blocker".

Doubles healing speed, cuts scarring in half.

Carries most materials mixed with it into the skin, especially water. Mixed with water, an excellent moisturizer. (Principal component of most commercial preparations.)

Pure form kills all bacteria on contact by instantly drawing the water out of them.

Eliminates halitosis by killing sulfurous bacteria on back of tongue if swished and gargled. (Tastes slightly sweet.)

De-congest nasal passages by rubbing a few drops of glycerine-water mix just inside the nostrils. Takes about 15 minutes to soften blockage and quiet agitated nasal passages, opening the airway.

A teaspoon or two orally, or commercial glycerine suppositories, are a mild laxative.

Softens and removes calluses.

Being researched as a cancer cell "quieter", to prevent cells from proliferating.

Other than the above, some long-distance runners have used it as a drink for stamina, but not everyone's stomach enjoys such a large amount all at once. [F1]

Helps thicken skin weakened by pregnazone treatments for rheumatism, Parkinson's, etc.

It is also used in foods and toothpaste as a sweetener and blending agent. Used to lubricate food handling machinery where avoiding oil contamination of product is necessary.

It is a major component of numerous expensive soaps.

In impure form, it is produced in huge quantities as a by-product of biofuel generation, and has been treated mostly as a waste product and burned or otherwise disposed of. (It burns fairly well, but not explosively).

Loblaws orders GMO-free labels removed

Loblaws, Canada's largest grocery retailer, has ordered its suppliers to remove or cover by Sept. 1 any labels that identify food as being free of genetically modified ingredients.--The move has angered many of the organic food processors that market their breakfast cereals, pastas and other products in the store's health food department as being free of chemical additives and genetically modified material.--Nature's Path Foods Inc., a British-Columbia-based company that produces organic breakfast cereals, said some Canadian grocery chains pressed the company to alter the labels on its products.--The section of the label that says the products are made without genetically modified organisms[F1]  has been blacked out with a felt pen. Spokesman Arran Stephens said some large grocery chains warned the company that its products would be yanked from shelves if it didn't remove the reference to genetically modified organisms.--"We've sort of been bullied into this. We feel it's very important that consumers know if their food has been genetically tampered," Mr. Stephens said, but the company didn't want to risk cutting production and laying off employees.--Mr. Stephens noted that independent food stores and grocery chains in the United States welcome the GMO-free labels.---Many suppliers are afraid to criticize the grocery chain publicly because they fear losing shelf space.[F2]  But they say privately that they are facing major expense to change labels and could lose sales because consumers won't be able to tell if they are getting non-GMO foods.[F3] ---In a memo sent to suppliers in late January, Jamie Cooney, director of procurement of health food for Loblaws, said the products of distributors who didn't remove the non-GMO labels could be removed from the grocery chain's shelves.---"It is our position that until such time as a government and-or industry-supported definition of genetic modification exists in Canada we will not support product packaging containing non-GMO claims," the letter, dated Jan. 29, said. No one was available to comment for Loblaws yesterday.--In some Loblaws stores across the country the non-GMO stickers have been blacked out or covered.---The federal government has yet to establish a standard or a labelling policy for genetically modified foods, those that come from plants altered to resist pests or herbicides or to produce greater yields.---Ottawa suffered a setback yesterday in one of its attempts to control labelling of GMO foods when a Quebec judge quashed its bid for an injunction that would stop a beer maker from labelling and advertising its product as "certified GMO-free" by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. The agency doesn't label or test consumer products for GMOs.---Unibroue Inc. has said that a manufacturer's --- certificate

signed by a government food inspector proved that the CFIA says its product is GMO-free.

Former Pro-GMO Scientist Speaks Out On The Real Dangers of Genetically Engineered Food---- I retired 10 years ago after a long career as a research scientist for Agriculture Canada. When I was on the payroll, I was the designated scientist of my institute to address public groups and reassure them that genetically engineered crops and foods were safe. There is, however, a growing body of scientific research - done mostly in Europe, Russia, and other countries - showing that diets containing engineered corn or soya cause serious health problems in laboratory mice and rats.------ I don't know if I was passionate about it but I was knowledgeable. I defended the side of technological advance, of science and progress.--I have in the last 10 years changed my position. I started paying attention to the flow of published studies coming from Europe, some from prestigious labs and published in prestigious scientific journals, that questioned the impact and safety of engineered food.---I refute the claims of the biotechnology companies that their engineered crops yield more, that they require less pesticide applications, that they have no impact on the environment and of course that they are safe to eat.-- There are a number of scientific studies that have been done for Monsanto by universities in the U.S., Canada, and abroad. Most of these studies are concerned with the field performance of the engineered crops, and of course they find GMOs safe for the environment and therefore safe to eat.---Individuals should be encouraged to make their decisions on food safety based on scientific evidence and personal choice, not on emotion or the personal opinions of others. --We should all take these studies seriously and demand that government agencies replicate them rather than rely on studies paid for by the biotech companies.--- The Bt corn and soya plants that are now everywhere in our environment are registered as insecticides.[F4]  But are these insecticidal plants regulated and have their proteins been tested for safety? Not by the federal departments in charge of food safety, not in Canada and not in the U.S.[F5] ---There are no long-term feeding studies performed in these countries to demonstrate the claims that engineered corn and soya are safe. All we have are scientific studies out of Europe and Russia, showing that rats fed engineered food die prematurely.--These studies show that proteins produced by engineered plants are different than what they should be. Inserting a gene in a genome using this technology can and does result in damaged proteins. The scientific literature is full of studies showing that engineered corn and soya contain toxic or allergenic proteins.---Genetic engineering is 40 years old. It is based on the naive understanding of the genome based on the One Gene - one protein hypothesis of 70 years ago, that each gene codes for a single protein. The Human Genome project completed in 2002 showed that this hypothesis is wrong.---The whole paradigm of the genetic engineering technology is based on a misunderstanding. Every scientist now learns that any gene can give more than one protein and that inserting a gene anywhere in a plant eventually creates rogue proteins. Some of these proteins are obviously allergenic or toxic----- I have drafted a reply to Paul Horgen's letter to the Comox Valley Environmental Council. It is my wish that it goes viral as to educate as many people as possible rapidly. Any and all social media is fine by me. This can also be used as a briefing note for the councilors of AVICC or anywhere else. Thank you for your help. [Original source with replies from Dr. Paul Horgen]

"GMO Myths and Truths" http://earthopensource.org/files/pdfs/GMO_Myths_and_Truths/GMO_Myths_and_Truths_1.3b.pdf[F6]   --disputes the claims of the Biotech industry that GM crops yield better and more nutritious food, that they save on the use of pesticides, have no environmental impact whatsoever and are perfectly safe to eat. Genetic pollution is so prevalent in North and South America where GM crops are grown that the fields of conventional and organic grower are regularly contaminated with engineered pollen and losing certification. The canola and flax export market from Canada to Europe (a few hundreds of millions of dollars) were recently lost because of genetic pollution. Did I mention superweeds, when RoundUp crops pass their genes on to RoundUp Resistant weeds. Apparently over 50% of fields in the USA are now infested and the growers have to go back to use other toxic herbicides such as 2-4 D. Many areas of Ontario and Alberta are also infested. The transgenes are also transferred to soil bacteria. A chinese study published last year shows that an ampicillin resistance transgene was transferred from local engineered crops to soil bacteria, that eventually found their way into the rivers. The transgenes are also transferred to humans. Volunteers who ate engineered soybeans had undigested DNA in their intestine and their bacterial flora was expressing the soybean transgenes in the form of antibiotic resistance. This is genetic pollution to the extreme, particularly when antibiotic resistance is fast becoming a serious global health risk. I can only assume the American Medical Association will soon recognize its poorly informed judgement. --In 2009 the American Academy of Environmental Medicine called for a moratorium of GM foods, safety testing and labeling. Their review of the available literature at the time noted that animals show serious health risks associated with GM food consumption including infertility, immune dysregulation, accelerated aging, dysregulation of genes associated with cholesterol synthesis, insulin regulation, cell signaling, and protein formation, and changes in the liver, kidney, spleen and gastrointestinal system. Monsanto writes “There is no need to test the safety of GM foods”. So long as the engineered protein is safe, foods from GM crops are substantially equivalent and they cannot pose any health risks.” The US Food and Drug Administration waived all levels of safety testing in 1996 before approving the commercialization of these crops. Nothing more than voluntary research is necessary, and the FDA does not even want to see the results. And there is certainly no need to publish any of it. If you remember 1996, the year that the first crops were commercialized, the research scientists of the US FDA all predicted that transgenic crops would have unpredictable hard to detect side effects, allergens, toxins, nutritional effects, new diseases. That was published in 2004 in Biotechnology if you recall seeing it. --I know well that Canada does not perform long term feeding studies as they do in Europe. The only study I am aware of from Canada is from the Sherbrooke Hospital in 2011, when doctors found that 93% of pregnant women and 82% of the fetuses tested had the protein pesticide in their blood. This is a protein recognized in its many forms as mildly to severely allergenic. There is no information on the role played by rogue proteins created by the process of inserting transgenes in the middle of a genome. But there is a lot of long term feeding studies reporting serious health problems in mice and rats. The results of the first long term feeding studies of lab rats reported last year in Food and Chemical Toxicology show that they developed breast cancer in mid life and showed kidney and liver damage. The current statistic I read is that North Americans are eating 193 lbs of GMO food on average annually. That includes the children I assume, not that I would use that as a scare tactic. But obviously I wrote at length because I think there is cause for alarm and it is my duty to educate the public.---One argument I hear repeatedly is that nobody has been sick or died after a meal (or a trillion meals since 1996) of GM food. Nobody gets ill from smoking a pack of cigarette either. But it sure adds up, and we did not know that in the 1950s before we started our wave of epidemics of cancer. Except this time it is not about a bit of smoke, it’s the whole food system that is of concern. The corporate interest must be subordinated to the public interest, and the policy of substantial equivalence must be scrapped as it is clearly untrue. --Thierry Vrain, Former research scientist for Agriculture Canada and now promoting awareness of the dangers of genetically modified foods.

Ploy to Sabotage Food in NorthAmerica

Protests Force Monsanto to Abandon GMO Expansion in Europe -- Confronted with ongoing protests and opposition from farmers, Monsanto is abandoning efforts to get approval for new GMO seeds in the European Union.  In addition to boosting the morale of GMO opponents, the Monsanto standdown was publicly admitted by the company.  Most often large corporations take a public relations stance that obfuscates defeats by using euphemistic public relations language or diversionary tactics.

According to CBS MarketWatch:

Monsanto doesn't plan to apply for the approval of new genetically modified seeds in Europe due to low demand from farmers and stiff opposition from the general public, the U.S. agricultural company's German spokeswoman said Sunday.-- "As long as there's not enough demand from farmers for these products and the public at large doesn't accept the technology, it makes no sense to fight against windmills," Ursula Luettmer-Ouazane said Sunday, confirming a report in Berlin-based German daily TAZ newspaper--- " Germany media outlet Deutsche Welle (DW) added that the German government has been vocal in its opposition to GMO seeds, as it details in an article, entitled "Monsanto gives up fight for GM plants in Europe----- The German Agriculture Ministry said Monsanto's move was a corporate decision and would not comment further. But it added it was no secret the ministry had been highly critical of gene modification technologies.-- "The promises of GM industry have not come true for European agriculture, nor have they for the agriculture in developing and emerging economies," the ministry said in a statement.-- In Germany, the protest movement against GM plants has been particularly strong for years. Vociferous rallying prompted the government in 2009 to prohibit the growing of Monsanto's MON810 GM maize variety.--- MarketWatch also noted that Monsanto was not alone in backing off the European market for now: Monsanto's rivals, most notably Bayer AG's CropScience unit, Syngenta and BASF, have already largely pulled out with genetically modified crops from markets like Germany, as most consumers remain skeptical about the use of these organisms. BASF announced in January it has given up seeking approval for genetically modified potatoes in Europe, after concerted opposition from consumers, farmers and lawmakers.-- In contrast, the US government, including the Obama administration, have been strong boosters of Monsanto GMO products domestically and overseas. In contrast, the US government, including However, the successful resistance against the corporate behemoth in Europe should give hope to those struggling against GMO lobbying clout in the United States.

Water Theft—in North America

They’re Coming For Your Water!!

The Yuma Liberty Outpost- by Ginger Jane Hammack

Government is legislating water in order to sustain other communities for “sustainable development” taking water for different areas. This situation is unfolding right now.---A serious death blow has begun to amplify in the desert southwest. Home/Land Owners. Business Owners, and those that play vital rolls in the Agricultural Community. HB2338 (Arizona), is a blatant government power grab, in a effort to legislate away an entire counties water rights in the name of sustainability. This type of legislation is a serious threat to all counties in the North America. It threatens to steal the water of thriving communities in order to sustain in the name of “sustainable development”.  ---In a local forum May 31, 2013, Yuma area residents provided their opinions to AZ Representatives Darin Mitchell, Lisa Otondo and Rep Frank Pratt, A presentation was provided by Herb Guenther a former head of the Arizona Water Resource Department. Representative Brenda Barton was also present, Director of the Agriculture and Water Committee. Also in attendance were a few other key members of Arizona legislature who were seated within the audience. Hundreds were present in this forum, not a seat was to be found empty.--Many are likely unaware as to the threat HB2338 imposes on our future. However, dozens of speakers were very educated and with great passion provided well formulated opinions to representatives and the public.---The forum was held at Yuma City Hall, One City Plaza. As concerns have been growing around the Bill HB2338. Severe droughts, continue to plague our communities both near and far. However, it was largely unanimous among the crowd today that Yuma’s water could be wisely managed via laws already existing regarding water transfer without additional regulations that Bill HB2338 would implement. Also mentioned was the regions untapped wateraquifer.---Mr. Bobbi Woodhouse begged the question to the committee, Is it OK, Simplistic? Murdering a community in order to sustain another?--- Woodhouse also noted what a “death blow” HB2338 could be to Yuma, AZ. While making a fantastic encouraging reference to a process already in place regarding water transfer. --Ken Rosevear an Executive Director of Yuma County Chamber of Commerce, urged legislators to be great stewards of our water. He rang the bell loud that in Arizona, Agriculture is King! As a matter of fact the region is known as the “Winter Salad Bowl” of America. A representative from Greater Yuma Economic Development mentioned that Yuma alone is responsible for cash receipts totaling 1.4 Billion dollars and a GDP of 3.2 Billion dollars. Chad Pierson, General Sales Manager for Bill Alexander Ford gave credit to the Agricultural community for all the white trucks purchased over the years. Of course we cannot forget the people that make this massive economy work; Local farmer Tim Dunn who’s family came to Yuma in the1950s from Eloy, shared concerns as well. Mr. Dunn stated “that people can come here to where the water is. Our water is critical to the food security of our country.”--- A food bank that has fed over 5,500 Veterans. Provided food for hungry children, and has received less than 10% of it’s food supply from the Government. This food bank thrives from the support and generosity of the Agricultural community. As it is challenged by an overwhelming number of unemployed, it’s mission has reached out far beyond Yuma, Arizona and well into cities abroad. Even with it’s own community suffering with the highest unemployment of 32%, in the nation, respectively.----This news unfolding as we speak, is beyond words. Do you think that your community will be safe? Think again!. This is going to cause you to reconsider everything you’ve been led to believe. This community of Yuma, Arizona is just an example. A prelude of what is to become. Is it by accident? --The evidence is everywhere.---Have you wondered why in the last few years, City and County roads have gone literally to hell, with the only explanation being, “no funding”, or “The State Capitols around the U.S. Are taking all funding for themselves.” Have you wondered why furloughs have rippled through our communities and the national number of welfare recipients has grossly risen along with high unemployment in communities across NorthAmerica? Did you find yourselves unable to learn more about freedom, loving, local candidates whom tried to brief communities on U.N. Agenda 21. Our water rights, and land rights and the near threats to our communities? This very reality is not just one issue. It is connected. This is a matrix of deception. You all have been lied to. Manipulated for decades. We are In imminent danger. Water our most vital resource known to man.----Have you come to understand that our food has been largely genetically modified and that most of our food has little nutritional value, full of high fructose, and over processed? Is it any wonder that Globally has been plagued with hunger, obesity, cravings, poverty, oppression, and the highest number of people on pharmaceuticals?---Right now, learn this wordMega-regions. Your Community isn’t being oppressed by accident or because of lack of funding. Your town and towns across our North America are being oppressed on purpose Mega-Regions. Global development supported by Bill and Melinda Gates. 2050 maps. Many of you may not have a clue what I’m talking about but know this, your future is deep shit. The future of humanity. The youth coming up, will all become enslaved to a new world order. Don’t think it exists? President Obama mentioned it in an Inaugural speech as did former President Bush---Are we really above improper behavior? Really? I beg to differ. How many wars are we in? How about the victims of slavery during the 18th and 19th Centuries?--Or how about the terrible atrocities that took place during the second world war under the rule of Hitler.
What keeps the public asleep? Is it work? TV?---The future of communities around
North America. Are in serious trouble. Water rights are coming down on the North American Public as some sort of new issue that just suddenly came into the public arena. It hasn’t, and many tried to warn you. The situation urgently requires for us to stop this type of legislation from passing. We need to reach into our souls and protect every corner of our towns. Protect our people and tell everyone! Tell everyone! Their coming for your water!

Nestlé is sucking an Ontario town dry for bottled water.

Last month, Nestlé tried to patent a flower used by billions of people as a natural remedy and a video was widely shared with Nestle’s chairman saying that water is a commodity and not a human right. And now, we have discovered that Nestlé is sucking a Canadian community dry during drought conditions — just to sell bottled water. ---Nestlé has won a permit to drain the local aquifer dry at any time, while the community of Hillsburgh, Ontario has to restrict its water use during dry conditions every summer. This just isn’t right, and Maude Barlow, Council of Canadians, and Ecojustice are fighting back, taking Nestlé and Ontario Ministry of the Environment to court. However, it shouldn’t take a lawsuit for Nestlé to do the right thing. Lets tell Nestlé that community water access is more important than its profits. Demand Nestle to stop draining Hillsburgh’s water source during dry conditions for the sake of profits.

Tell Nestlé: stop draining Ontario’s water source during drought conditions to sell bottled water.

Currently, Nestlé has a permit through 2017 to take about 1.1 million litres of water per day from Hillsburgh for its bottling operations in Aberfoyle, even during drought conditions when households are put on water restrictions. [F7] A number of groups are fighting back. “Ontario must prioritize communities’ right to water above a private company’s thirst for profit,” says Maude Barlow, National Chairperson for the Council of Canadians.---Nestlé has been in the news a lot lately for attempting to profit from our natural resources. Last month, over 220,000 SumOfUs supporters have signed our petition against Nestlé’s greedy grab to patent fennel flower, a cure-all remedy for over a thousand years for billions of people in impoverished communities across the Middle East and Asia. Several days after we send out our petition, a video emerged showed Nestlé’s chairperson claiming that the idea water is a human right comes from “extremist” NGOs and that water is a foodstuff that should have a market value. So it’s no surprise that Nestlé is now trying to drain water from an Ontario town for the sake of profit.---Nestlé’s appetite to commodify water and flowers is a recurring strategy by a corporation with a pattern of seeking to privatize and profit from traditional knowledge and our natural resources. By speaking out against the draining of our watersheds, you will be taking a stand against Nestlé’s evil strategy to commodifying everything in nature in the name of profit.--Demand that Nestlé stop commodifying everything in nature. Stop draining Ontario’s watersheds to bottle water.

Harper’s water privatization

UNITED NATIONS, GENEVA–(Marketwired – Apr 25, 2013) – CUPE is at the United Nation in Geneva this week drawing international attention to the Harper Conservative’s efforts to privatize Canada’s municipal water and wastewater systems, and the threat this poses to the accessibility of safety public water for all Canadians.---The Harper Conservative government’s human rights record is being reviewed on April by member states of the UN during Canada’s Universal Periodic Review. In the days leading up to the review, CUPE has been meeting with diplomats from various countries taking part to share concerns over the Harper Conservatives water policies.--“Water is a human right, and it is the responsibility of Canada’s federal government to acknowledge and protect that right for every Canadian,” said Paul Moist, national president of CUPE. “The track record of the Harper Conservative Government, however, shows they are more concerned with corporations profiting water first and foremost.”--In its meetings and discussions, CUPE has been sharing concerns over the Harper Conservative strategy of forcing risky public-private partnerships (P3s) on to municipal governments which is undermining public water and wastewater systems in communities across the country.--“Prime Minister Stephen Harper has inexplicably tied federal infrastructure funding to a condition that they be P3 projects, forcing municipalities in dire need of support in maintaining crumbling infrastructure to privatize their water and waste water systems,” said Moist. “We hope UN member states will take the opportunity to press the Harper Conservative government on recognizing the human right to water and sanitation by keeping water services in public hands, and question their ‘P3 or nothing’ edict.”--CUPE is also highlighting the considerable problems with the P3 model for water and waste water systems – such as higher costs compared to traditional public services, and the loss of transparency, accountability and local democratic control.--“We are making it clear to the international community: the best way to ensure Canadians right to water is protected is to keep our water and wastewater systems in public hands,” said Moist.--CUPE is also offering its support for Indigenous peoples working to build international pressure on Canada to address the crisis-level conditions of drinking water in First Nation communities.

15 Foods that can be ReGrown

by Mrs Happy Homemaker

Let’s count them out – from 1 to 15…

1, 2, 3, & 4.  Spring Onions, Leeks, Scallions, & Fennel

These are the ones I regrow the very most, I always have a mason jar of green onions regrowing above my kitchen sink. The technique is quite simple.  Once you are done with them (any of the above four), simply place the root end in a jar of water & it will begin to regrow within just a few days.  Just make sure to replace the water with fresh as need be.

 5. Lemongrass

You can regrow lemongrass the same way you regrow the green onions.  Simply place the root ends in a glass of water, refreshing the water as needed. You will want to wait to harvest your lemongrass until it is about 12 inches tall.

6.  Ginger

Plant a small chunk off of your piece of ginger in potting soil with the newest buds facing up. Ginger enjoys non-direct sunlight in a warm moist environment. Before long, it will begin to regrow shoots and roots. Once the plant is established and you’re ready to harvest, pull up the whole plant, including the roots. Remove a piece of the ginger, and re-plant it to repeat the growing process.

7. Potatoes

Pick a potato that has a lot of good formed eyes, and cut it into 2-3 inch pieces, taking care to be sure that each piece has at least 1-2 eyes on it. Leave the cut pieces to sit at room temperature for a day or two, which allows the cut areas to dry. Potato plants thrive on a high-nutrient environment, so it is best to flip compost into your soil before you plant. Plant your potato pieces about 8 inches deep with the eye facing up.  Cover it with 4 inches of soil, leaving the other 4 inches empty. As your plant begins to grow and more roots appear, add more soil.

8. Sweet Potatoes

You will need sweet potatoes with good formed eyes, just as you would want with a regular potato. You can bury the entire potato or use pieces under a thin layer of topsoil in a moist place with plenty of sun. When the shoots begin to reach a height of four inches you will need to replant the sweet potatoes, allowing them about 12 inches between each another. It takes about 4-6 months to grow sweet potatoes this way.

9, 10, 11, & 12.  Romaine Lettuce, Celery, Bok Choy, & Cabbage

These all are regrown by placing the roots in a dish of water. Cut the leaves or stalks off to about an inch above the roots.  Place the root end in a dish of water.  Make sure that the roots are inside of the water, but do not submerge the rest of the plant.  Place in a sunny window & spray with water 1-2 times a week to keep the top of the plant moist.

13.  Onions

Onions are one of the easiest vegetables to regrow from scraps. Just cut off the root end of your onion, leaving a 1’2  inch of onion on the roots. Place it in a sunny location in your garden and cover the top with soil. Make sure to keep the soil moist by watering when needed. As you use your home-grown regenerated onions, keep replanting the root ends you cut off, and you’ll never have to purchase onions at the store again.

14.  Garlic

You can re-grow a plant from a single clove.  Simply plant it with the root-end down. Sit the plant in a sunny window.  Once established, cut back the shoots and the plant will put all it’s forces into producing a nice garlic bulb – full of flavor & capable of repelling sparkly vampires.  You can repeat this process with a clove from the new bulb you have just grown.

15. Pineapple

To re-grow pineapples, you will need to remove the green leafy part at the top and take care that no fruit remains attached...

Timed high-fat diet resets circadian metabolism and prevents obesity

Abstract

Disruption of circadian rhythms leads to obesity and metabolic disorders. Timed restricted feeding (RF) provides a time cue and resets the circadian clock, leading to better health. In contrast, a high-fat (HF) diet leads to disrupted circadian expression of metabolic factors and obesity. We tested whether long-term (18 wk) clock resetting by RF can attenuate the disruptive effects of diet-induced obesity. Analyses included liver clock gene expression, locomotor activity, blood glucose, metabolic markers, lipids, and hormones around the circadian cycle for a more accurate assessment. Compared with mice fed the HF diet ad libitum, the timed HF diet restored the expression phase of the clock genes Clock and Cry1 and phase-advanced Per1, Per2, Cry2, Bmal1, Rorα, and Rev-erbα. Although timed HF-diet-fed mice consumed the same amount of calories as ad libitum low-fat diet-fed mice, they showed 12% reduced body weight, 21% reduced cholesterol levels, and 1.4-fold increased insulin sensitivity. Compared with the HF diet ad libitum, the timed HF diet led to 18% lower body weight, 30% decreased cholesterol levels, 10% reduced TNF-α levels, and 3.7-fold improved insulin sensitivity. Timed HF-diet-fed mice exhibited a better satiated and less stressed phenotype of 25% lower ghrelin and 53% lower corticosterone levels compared with mice fed the timed low-fat diet. Taken together, our findings suggest that timing can prevent obesity and rectify the harmful effects of a HF diet.—Sherman, H., Genzer, Y., Cohen, R., Chapnik, N., Madar, Z., Froy, O. Interactions between the circadian clock and metabolism: there are good times and bad times.

Department of Neuroscience, University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA 19104, USA.

Abstract

An endogenous circadian (24 h) clock regulates rhythmic processes of physiology, metabolism and behavior in most living organisms. While able to free-run under constant conditions, the circadian clock is coupled to day : night cycles to increase its amplitude and align the phase of circadian rhythms to the right time of the day. Disruptions of the circadian clock are correlated with brain dysfunctions, cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders. In this review, we focus on the interactions between the circadian clock and metabolism. We discuss recent findings on circadian clock regulation of feeding behavior and rhythmic expression of metabolic genes, and present evidence of metabolic input to the circadian clock. We emphasize how misalignment of circadian clocks within the body and with environmental cycles or daily schedules leads to the increasing prevalence of metabolic syndromes in modern society.

The USDA sabotaged the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906 in order to adulterate food for commerce instead of nutrition

In 1906, Upton Sinclair wrote the hit novel "The Jungle," which vividly described the corruption of the American meatpacking industry at that time and catapulted an entire era of Journalism which exposed adulterated food, dangerous prescription drugs, and the unkempt quarters of animals bred for consumption.

After realizing the prolific influence of Sinclair's book, President Theodore Roosevelt was forced to react so he signed into law the Meat Inspection Act, and then shortly after that the Pure Food and Drug Act, also known as the "Wiley Act," named after Dr. Harvey W. Wiley, the USDA's chief chemist.

Dr. Wiley had published findings of the widespread use of harmful preservatives, including the "embalming of beef."

In addition to Wiley's research and exposure of adulterated food, his biggest battle was against synthetic sweeteners. Artificial sweeteners had been around since the 1870's, and Wiley called glucose and several others "champion adulterants" because they were not really food, just cheap fillers that poisoned the food industry, unbeknownst to the general public.

The USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) ironically fired Wiley, the very genius who had helped originate the "landmark document" and a health advocate who cared deeply about consumer rights. With Wiley out of the picture, the USDA exploited loopholes and exceptions of the Pure Food and Drug Act and began what turned out to be the ultimate undermining of public health for profits.--

Could it be that Wiley exposed too much, or was he just used as a pawn, to create legislation that would look as if the Government was doing the "right thing," when in reality it just opened up avenues for corruption and adulteration?

Also, the Meat Inspection Act would have mandated routine examinations of livestock before and after slaughter, which meant ongoing USDA inspections of processing plants. They could dig as deep as inspecting everything from carcasses to feed and fertilizers.

What quickly followed was a "lucrative intervention" of the whole process by the "Big Pharma" and Big Government control of the misleading marketing.

To appreciate the remarkable depth of corruption, simply take a good look at certain exceptions and exemptions of this "pure" Act. The term "poultry product" means any poultry carcass; meaning small portions of the carcass have historically not been labeled as ingredients and are exempt from the Secretary of Agriculture's "definition" of poultry product (vegetarians and vegans beware). --

This exception includes the parts most meat eaters won't even eat, like guts, brains and bones.

The history of crimes against food and drug laws runs deep, but the most notable reign of this nature began in the early 1900's at the infamous
U.S. Bureau of the Chemistry, which later became the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The USDA basically was the FDA of the time, and the true motive of the Act was to shut down any therapeutic or healing claims from food, vitamins, supplements, herbs, and create a monoculture for medicine and the "legalized" adulteration of meat and poultry.

Strikingly similar to today's corruption of the food and pharmaceutical industries, the most powerful companies in the early 1900's had a vested interest in undermining regulations.

How To Make HomeMade Oxy Clean

1.

Buy washing soda. Most recipes you find for homemade OxiClean tell you to use baking soda; however, what you really want is washing soda. Washing soda is found in the laundry aisle of most supermarkets. Arm & Hammer makes Super Washing Soda and it's in a big yellow box. You can also order washing soda online. Washing soda is very cheap and good for many other uses as well.

    • 2

Buy hydrogen peroxide. You can find hydrogen peroxide in the health and beauty section of any store. It is usually in a brown bottle, comes in several sizes and is very cheap. Peroxide is great for many uses, so if you don't use it all in this recipe, it is good to have some on hand.

    • 3

Buy a spray bottle. If you don't have a clean spray bottle, you can buy one really cheap at any store. Look in the laundry section or in the cosmetics section of your local supermarket or drug store.

    • 4

Mix your ingredients. Use 2 tablespoons of washing soda to 1 cup of peroxide. Pour the desired amount of peroxide in the spray bottle, then add the washing soda. You can make a funnel with a piece of paper to make adding the washing soda easier. Now add the cover to the bottle and let it sit for a day. Give it a gentle shake before each use and use on any stain just like you would use OxiClean.

 How to Make Powdered Eggs

The incredible edible powdered egg.

Here’s how you can do it at home:

What You’ll Need

  • A food dehydrator –Any will do
  • Eggs
  • Something to store the powder in when complete

How to Make Powdered Eggs

The process for making powdered eggs is fairly simple. However there are two ways (one which creates a far superior product but more on that later), let me explain the process for both:

(In these examples, I used a half-dozen eggs for the cook-dry method and another half-dozen eggs for the wet-dry method)

The Cook-Dry Method

Step 1: Whip up a half-dozen eggs using a blender (for a more complete mixture). And then then in a non-stick frying pan, cook the egg solution like you would when making scrambled eggs.

Step 2: Place cooked eggs onto a drying rack in your dehydrator and set the temperature to about 145 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 3: Let dry for around 4 hours until completely brittle throughout.

Step 4: Chop dried chunks in a blender or food processor (or coffee grinder) until it has a fine powdery constancy. Bag it and store it away.

The Wet-Dry Method

Step 1: Lightly grease a fruit roll sheet (it comes with the dehydrator) with a paper towel.

Step 2: Whip up a half-dozen eggs using a blender (not necessary but it does make for a a more uniform mixture). Pour the egg slurry into the fruit-roll sheet and set the temperature to about 145 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 3: Let dry for around 16 hours until completely brittle throughout.

Step 4: Place dried chunks in a blender or food processor (or coffee grinder) until it has a fine powdery constancy. Bag it and store it away.

Here’s a picture showing the final result of both the wet-dry and cooked-dry method of dehydrating. Each half-dozen eggs dehydrated produced almost exactly a half a cup of powder. You can also see how the wet dry method produces an orange powder (this color turns back to yellow when reconstituted and cooked).:

End Results

When comparing the two methods there is most definitely a clear winnerthe wet dry method.---To preserve this add either salt or rosemary essential oil ( or sage-thyme-savoury-nutmeg-cinnamon) ( spray it on the mix prior to drying ) this will affect taste but it also affects benefit in amore effective way and protectthe lipids from breaking down and going rancid--If cooking the dehydrated egg (as you would with the original eggs) which will kill the salmonella.

The only advantage I found with the cook-dry method is the quickness of the drying time (four hours compared to 16 with the wet-dry method). Beyond that, when reconstituting the cook-dried eggs and cooking them like scrambled eggs, they have a grainy texture, and they taste dry and stale. They also do not fluff up like normal eggs when cooked in a pan. I assume this lack of “rising” would not work to well in baked goods that require this “leavening” property.

The wet-dry method produces a much better product. Although the powder turns initially orange, when reconstituted and cooked like scrambled eggs, the orange turns to yellow and they taste, look, and feel just like non-dehydrated egss. They also maintain the “leavening” property and fluff up which is important for baking.

Here’s a picture of the two in powder form with their resultant reconstituted and cooked product:

How to Use Powdered Eggs

Uses of Powdered Eggs

Powdered eggs can be used in the same exact manner as regular eggs. The only thing you’ll not be able to do is create things like poached eggs, or sunny-side-up eggs etc. But for all other needs like baking, french toast, scrambled eggs and so on, you’ll have the same resultsbut in a much more compact and storage-friendly form.

How to Reconstitute Powdered Eggs

Reconstituting powdered eggs is a simple process. To make the equivalent of one average sized egg mix 1 heaping tablespoon of egg powder together with 2 tablespoons of water. Stir it up, let it sit for 5 min and use as you would normal eggs.
