Higher Levels of Several Toxic Metals Found in Children With Autism

Researchers report that children with autism had higher levels of several toxic metals in their blood and urine compared to typical children

Feb. 25, 2013 — In a recently published study in the journal Biological Trace Element Research, Arizona State University researchers report that children with autism had higher levels of several toxic metals in their blood and urine compared to typical children. The study involved 55 children with autism ages 5-16 years compared to 44 controls of similar age and gender.--The autism group had significantly higher levels of lead in their red blood cells (+41 percent) and significantly higher urinary levels of lead (+74 percent), thallium (+77 percent), tin (+115 percent), and tungsten (+44 percent). Lead, thallium, tin, and tungsten are toxic metals that can impair brain development and function, and also interfere with the normal functioning of other body organs and systems.---A statistical analysis was conducted to determine if the levels of toxic metals were associated with autism severity, using three different scales of autism severity. It was found that 38-47 percent of the variation of autism severity was associated with the level of several toxic metals, with cadmium and mercury being the most strongly associated[U1] .---In the paper about the study, the authors state "We hypothesize that reducing early exposure to toxic metals may help ameliorate symptoms of autism, and treatment to remove toxic metals may reduce symptoms of autism; these hypotheses need further exploration, as there is a growing body of research to support it." The study was led by James Adams, a President's Professor in the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy, one of ASU's Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering. He directs the ASU Autism/Asperger's Research Program.--Adams previously published a study on the use of DMSA, an FDA-approved medication for removing toxic metals. The open-label study found that DMSA was generally safe and effective at removing some toxic metals. It also found that DMSA therapy improved some symptoms of autism. The biggest improvement was for children with the highest levels of toxic metals in their urine. Overall, children with autism have higher average levels of several toxic metals, and levels of several toxic metals are strongly associated with variations in the severity of autism for all three of the autism severity scales investigated.--The study was funded by the Autism Research Institute and the Legacy Foundation.--Story Source--The above story is reprinted from materials provided by Arizona State University. ----Journal Reference-James B. Extremely High Estrogen Levels May Underlie Complications of Single-Birth IVF Pregnancies

Feb. 25, 2013 — Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) researchers have identified what may be a major factor behind the increased risk of two adverse outcomes in pregnancies conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF). Two papers published in the journal Fertility and Sterility support the hypothesis that extremely high estrogen levels at the time of embryo transfer increase the risk that infants will be born small for their gestational age and the risk of preeclampsia, a dangerous condition that can threaten the lives of both mother and child. They also outline a protocol that reduced those risks in a small group of patients.---Both papers addressed IVF pregnancies resulting in a single live birth, not multiple-birth pregnancies which continue to be the most significant risk factor of any assisted reproduction technology. But even single-birth IVF pregnancies are more likely than unassisted single-birth pregnancies to result in premature delivery, low birth weight and other serious complications. In the January 2013 issue of the journal, the investigators at the MGH's Vincent Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology report that freezing embryos of women who had excessively elevated estrogen at the time of egg retrieval, followed by embryo transfer in a later reproductive cycle when hormonal levels were closer to those of a natural cycle, significantly reduced the percentage of small newborns and eliminated the incidence of preeclampsia in a small group of patients.----"We've known for a long time that singleton pregnancies conceived by IVF were at higher risk of these adverse outcomes, but the reasons were unknown," says Anthony Imudia, MD, of the MGH Fertility Center, lead author of both articles. "Now we know which facet of IVF might be responsible, which will allow us to identify at-risk patients and implement ways of averting those risks."--At most fertility centers, IVF involves a sequence of coordinated events that stimulate the ovaries in a way that leads to the growth and maturation of several eggs at the same time. Prior to ovulation the eggs are retrieved for fertilization outside the mother's body. If fertilization is successful, embryos that appear to be developing normally are transferred into the woman's uterus within 5 days of egg retrieval in a process called fresh embryo transfer.--Egg cells grow and mature in ovarian sacs called follicles, which release estrogen, so the development of multiple maturing follicles can lead to significantly elevated estrogen levels. Animal studies have suggested that excessively elevated estrogen early in pregnancy can interfere with the development of the placenta, and other research has associated placental abnormalities with increased risk for both preeclampsia and delivery of small newborns---In the June 2012 issue of Fertility and Sterility, the MGH team reported that -- among almost 300 IVF pregnancies that resulted in the birth of a single infant from 2005 through 2010 -- the women whose estrogen levels right before egg retrieval were highest had significantly greater incidence of preeclampsia and of delivering infants small for their gestational age. Women whose peak estrogen levels were at or above the 90th percentile had a nine-fold greater risk of a small infant and a five-fold greater risk of preeclampsia than women with lower peak estrogen levels.

To follow up that observation, the MGH team examined how a protocol instituted for mothers at risk of a complication of fertility treatment called ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) might affect the apparent risks associated with extremely high estrogen levels. At the MGH Fertility Center, if the estrogen levels for IVF patients exceed 4,500 pg/mL on the day they are scheduled to receive a hormonal trigger of final egg cell maturation -- indicating increased risk for OHSS -- standard practice is to counsel patients on alternatives. These included postponing the procedure until a future IVF cycle or proceeding with egg retrieval and fertilization but freezing the embryos for implantation in a later cycle to allow time for the ovary to recover.----The team's January Fertility and Sterility report compared the outcomes of 20 patients who choose to have their embryos frozen and implanted later because of their risk of OHSS with those of 32 patients with pre-retrieval estrogen levels over 3,450 pg/mL who proceeded with fresh embryo transfer. Only 10 percent of the infants of mothers who choose embryo freezing and transfer in a subsequent cycle were small for their gestational age, compared with 35 percent of the infants of mothers who had fresh embryo transfer. While the incidence of preeclampsia after fresh embryo transfer was almost 22 percent, none of the patients who chose embryo freezing with later implantation developed preeclampsia.--Our center takes a very individualized and conservative approach to ovarian stimulation, so fewer than 10 percent of our patients had extremely high estrogen levels of greater than 3,450 pg/mL," says Imudia, who is an instructor in Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology at Harvard Medical School. "If other centers validate our findings by following the same approach and achieving similar outcomes, we would recommend that each patient's hormonal dosage be adjusted to try and keep her estrogen levels below 3,000 pg/mL. If the estrogen level exceeds this threshold, the patient could be counseled regarding freezing all embryos for transfer in subsequent cycles, when her hormone levels are closer to that of a natural cycle."---Story Source-The above story is reprinted from materials provided by Massachusetts General Hospital, via EurekAlert!, a service of AAAS. --Journal Reference--Anthony N. LIST OF TOXIC MATERIALS IN VACCINES

There is an astonishing collection of poisons, toxic metals, chemical binders, and animal parts and juices in vaccines. You would not want to give this to your dog, yet it is routinely given to precious, little children.---Among these many toxic and contaminated ingredients is the infamous thimerosal, which contains mercury. Casein and gelatin are bovine products, and cattle are increasingly suspected of having CJD (mad cow disease). Keep in mind that we are here dealing with raw meat. It cannot be "cooked," or the deadly viruses will be damaged. There are "washed sheep red blood cells" in DPT. Sheep in Britain and the U.S. have "mad sheep disease (scrapie). Reading the section on anthrax in the following list, it is little wonder that our troops in the Gulf War got "Gulf War Illness."---The diseases in vaccines are grown in the laboratory in monkey kidney cells, in human cells which may be cancerous, in chick embryo and in guinea pig cells. The cells are nourished with the blood serum from calves, which may be contaminated with numerous diseases such as bovine leukemia virus, bovine AIDS virus, or other animal diseases. Chemicals such as aluminum, formaldehyde (a human carcinogen) and MSG are used in processing of the vaccines. Thimerosal, a derivate of mercury and a deadly poison, is used as a preservative. These chemicals and potential diseases are all injected into your child’s body or your body as part of the vaccine.

Busting the Cholesterol Myth

For decades, the public has been relentlessly brainwashed about cholesterol and today practically everybody thinks that cholesterol is the main cause of heart disease. -It's not, as many of you know who regularly visit this website. To me, and to other doctors who contribute opinions here, the cholesterol story is perhaps the biggest medical con in existence--Most physicians, unfortunately, have also bought hook, line, and sinker into the propaganda that if cholesterol reaches some artificially-established cutoff point you need a drug to lower it in order to prevent a heart attack, even if you are totally healthy, and, not to worry, the drug is really very safe to take. I, for one, bought into that lie big time and actually used to lecture about the importance of statins, the cholesterol-lowering drugs. I even got a paycheck from drug companies to talk up their statins. --

What we have learned is this:

The fear of cholesterol is medical propaganda designed to sell cholesterol-lowering drugs. The adoption of the cholesterol ideology by mainstream medicine and the government had a strong political lobbying component to it.

Most forms of cholesterol are not harmful at all.

Cholesterol is not your enemy. It is a natural substance made in your body to produce hormones, vitamin D, neurotransmitters, and healthy cell membranes. Your body makes it and needs it.

The concept of "good" and "bad" cholesterol is utterly outdated, as are the total cholesterol and LDL levels documented on standard lipid tests. They predict heart disease poorly. If, after a standard test, your doctor says your cholesterol is too high and you need to lower it, ask for a follow-up advanced cholesterol particle test that reveals more details. Specifically, it tells you the proportion of large vs. small, dense LDL particles, the latter being much more likely to participate in the inflammatory process. This is important information.

● Inflammation, sugar, and stress are the main causes of heart disease - the enemies of heart health. You need to do something about these things and stop worrying about your cholesterol and fat.

● The number one dietary contributor to heart disease is sugar. It contributes to inflammation in the artery walls. Reduce or eliminate sugar and processed carbohydrates in your diet and you knock down inflammation and triglycerides. High triglycerides are far more of a danger for heart disease than high cholesterol.

● Good fat (as in saturated fat, avocado, and nuts) increases the big, fluffy, benign LDL particles and reduces the small, dense particles that actually do play a role in heart disease. Sugar, in contrast, has the opposite effect.

● The benefits of statin drugs have been widely exaggerated, and any benefit of these drugs has nothing to do with their ability to lower cholesterol.

● Statin side effects are very often dismissed by doctors and grossly underreported. They include muscle pain, memory problems, cognition difficulties, cataracts, liver problems, polyneuropathy, impotence, and immune decline. As many as 15-25 percent of statin users may develop muscle pain, and often along with weakness, anywhere from within a few weeks to several years after the start of regular usage.

● Statins inhibit the body's production of an antioxidant nutrient called CoQ10. That's a big negative because CoQ10 serves as a central agent in the generation of cellular energy. Without enough of it, the physiology suffers in many ways.

● There are 60 million Americans on statins alone, and many more worldwide. Very few learn from their doctors that the drugs inhibit CoQ10 and to therefore take CoQ10 to prevent side effects. Unfortunately, most doctors are either ignorant of the connection or too infatuated with cholesterol-lowering to seriously consider the side effects. Anyone taking a statin drug MUST take a minimum dose of 200 mg of a CoQ10 supplement daily in divided doses.

These are some of the inconvenient truths you don't hear about.

The Best Items to Use For Barter in a Post-Collapse Word

There are a lot of different opinions as to what items will be best for barter in a post-collapse world where the underground economy may be the only viable economy for the passing of goods and services.  That said, consider this a starting point as you begin to acquire goods for barter.

In no particular order, consider accumulating some of the following items for barter purposes.  And keep in mind that in a post-collapse world, the items do not necessarily have to be new, but simply serviceable.

  1. Water purification supplies including purification tabs and filters
  2. Hand tools including hatchets, saws, machetes and general fix-it tools
  3. Fire making supplies, including lighters, matches, flint fire steel
  4. Sanitary supplies including toilet paper, feminine products and diapers
  5. Disposable razors and razor blades
  6. Fuel, any and all kinds (gas, diesel, propane, kerosene)
  7. Prescription drugs, painkillers, and antibiotics
  8. First aid remedies such as cough syrup, cortisone cream, boil-ese, calamine lotion and topical pain relievers
  9. Spirits such as bourbon, rum, gin, and vodka
  10. Coffee and tea (instant coffee is okay)
  11. Solar battery charger and rechargeable batteries
  12. Standard Batteries
  13. Reading glasses
  14. Paracord
  15. Bags, including large garbage bags as well as smaller zip-close bags
  16. Plastic sheeting
  17. Duct tape
  18. Tie Wraps
  19. Heavy plastic sheets and tarps
  20. Toiletries including toothpaste, dental floss soaps, shampoo (tip: save those small sized toiletries that are provided by hotels and motels)
  21. Condoms
  22. Latex or Nitrile gloves in a variety of sizes
  23. Hard  candy
  24. Fishing supplies
  25. Knives of various types including fixed blades, kitchen knives, and box cutters.
  26. Condiments and Spices
  27. Paperback books on a variety of subjects
  28. Tobacco and cigarette rolling supplies
  29. Amusements such as playing cards, crossword puzzle books, Sudoku
  30. Pencils & paper
  31. Pepper spray
  32. Garden seeds
  33. Flashlights
  34. Vinegar and baking soda to use in DIY cleaning supplies
  35. Empty spray bottles and squirt bottles
  36. Hand pumps for both air and liquids
  37. Mylar blankets and tents
  38. Hand warmers
  39. Sewing and mending supplies
  40. Knitting or crochet needles and Yarn

One thing you will notice that I have not included firearms or ammo and for good reason.  In a post-collapse society, you might not know your barter partners well and may run the risk that they will use these items against you so that they can steal the rest of you stuff.  One person’s opinion, anyway.

THE DANGER OF SIDE-EFFECTS -Pharamceutical Drugs

The problem with polypharmacy is that the more drugs you take, the more likely you are to experience side-effects that are then misinterpreted by the healthcare practitioner as a symptom of disease that needs treating with additional medicine, explains Dr Fox.---‘Many older people on beta-blockers for blood pressure, for example, will report depression.’ -This could be because depression is a known side-effect of beta-blockers. But some patients may not need the beta-blockers at allthe problem is the drug then slows down their heart too much and it is this that makes them tired and depressed. -‘This may lead to them being prescribed anti-depressants they don’t need. 'Others who are on statins might suffer from muscle pain and this may mean they need painkillers, which may then have more side-effects, including gastric problems, which then necessitate more drugs.--‘A lot of these drugs do prevent illness, it’s true, but there is often a price to pay in terms of side-effects.’It’s not just that the drugs can cause side-effects — there’s also the problem of them interacting with each other[U2]  ‘A big part of our workload is sorting out whether these patients’ symptoms are an illness or a result of drug interactions,’ says Dr McNair. This task is not helped by the fact that drugs are not tested on patients who are on multiple pills for different conditions, adds Dr Fox. ‘I was always taught that if you take more than three drugs at a time you can expect interactions — but these days it’s not unusual for the over-65s to be on five or more different drugs for three or more chronic health conditions. No one really knows what the cumulative effects of this are yet. ‘Although GPs use computerised prescribing systems that should flag up drug interactions, they may also write paper prescriptions on home visits and not have access to this, so the system is not infallible,’ says  Dr Fox.  The elderly are more at risk of drug side-effects because their metabolism is slower, meaning drugs build up in their systems, he adds.--Dr Fox recently published research that suggested commonly prescribed anticholinergic drugs — used for treating movement disorders, incontinence and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease — are associated with cognitive decline in the elderly and an increased risk of death.---An estimated 20 to 50 per cent of all over-65s are being prescribed at least one anti-cholinergic drug, and while the effects of some are small, their cumulative effects may cause significant mental deterioration in older people who already have some cognitive problems, warns Ian Maidment, a senior lecturer at Aston University’s School of Pharmacy and joint author of the study.--‘Doctors can definitely do more harm than good by prescribing too many drugs — GPs are ideally placed to take a holistic view of the patient’s overall health, but they are hard-pressed.--‘And sometimes the patient is under four or five different specialists and it can be hard for GPs to find out why a patient has been prescribed a particular drug, so they tend to leave them on it.’--‘We need more research into poly-pharmacy to see what the effects are. It requires a co-ordinated response from community pharmacists, patients and their carers too.’--There is an added problem with patients self-medicating with over-the-counter drugs and herbal  remedies, says Dr Fox.--Tackling polypharmacy can make a significant difference, as Jean Smith discovered.

Her experience is borne out by an Israeli study in 2010 that found that when the elderly patients in a nursing home were taken off some of their medication (under supervision), 88 per cent reported improvements in their overall health. --=Fifty-six of the 70 participants reported improvements in their cognitive health.

PRESSURE TO PRESCRIBE---A major impediment to reducing polypharmacy is that the payment system for GPs effectively rewards it, says Dr Margaret McCartney, a GP from Glasgow and author of The Patient Paradox: Why  Sexed-Up Medicine Is Bad For  Your Health. --Under changes introduced by the Department of Health in 2004, GPs’ pay is linked to managing specified medical conditions, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, obesity and smoking.---‘The problem is GPs are judged according to the number of patients they put on tablets,’ argues  Dr McCartney.

‘A lot of elderly people feel pressured into going on to tablets, and when you talk to GPs they, too, are fed up with the system and would embrace the chance to practise more holistic medicine where they can use their professional skills more.’

Tellingly, a review conducted by the University of Sydney which looked at nine studies where elderly people had been taken off medication, concluded that between 20 per cent and 85 per cent of patients taken off blood pressure pills had normal blood pressure and did not need to go back on the pills, and there was no increase in deaths as a result.--Jean Smith is grateful her doctors reviewed her medication, after  seeing the effect polypharmacy had on her father, Robert, who died last year at the age of 87. --He was on 12 different drugs, including statins, blood pressure tablets, omeprazole for stomach acid and gabapentin for nerve pain.---‘  ‘It was only after he was admitted to hospital as an emergency for a fall that he was put back on the pills. --'He died two months later of heart  failure and his geriatrician told me quite simply that the doctors had treated him with the best of intentions but had “overmedicated him”. --‘I think Dad had a few years left in him. I find it heartbreaking that he died because of this obsession with putting everybody on pills. I don’t want that to happen to me.’ -Dr Fox says that, to avoid this, he thinks patients on more than five medicines should have them reviewed ‘at least annually’.--‘The days of leaving patients on long-term medication without review should not happen any more.’--For patients or relatives of patients taking lots of prescriptions, he suggests asking their GP or community pharmacists for a prescription review and discuss any drug side-effects with them however, patients should not stop their medication suddenly without medical advice.--For advice and information on living with a long-term condition, go to expertpatients.co.uk

Monsanto Slapped With A $7.7 Billion Lawsuit By 5 Million Farmers

Launching a lawsuit against the very company that is responsible for a farmer suicide every 30 minutes, 5 million farmers are now suing Monsanto for as much as 6.2 billion euros (around 7.7 billion US dollars). The reason? As with many other cases, such as the ones that led certain farming regions to be known as the ‘suicide belt’, Monsanto has been reportedly taxing the farmers to financial shambles with ridiculous royalty charges. The farmers state that Monsanto has been unfairly gathering exorbitant profits each year on a global scale from “renewal” seed harve9sts, which are crops planted using seed from the previous year’s harvest.---The practice of using renewal seeds dates back to ancient times, but Monsanto seeks to collect massive royalties and put an end to the practice. Why? Because Monsanto owns the very patent to the genetically modified seed, and is charging the farmers not only for the original crops, but the later harvests as well. Eventually, the royalties compound and many farmers begin to struggle with even keeping their farm afloat. It is for this reason that India slammed Monsanto with groundbreaking  ‘bio-piracy’ charges  in an effort to stop Monsanto from ‘patenting life’.---Jane Berwanger, a lawyer for the farmers who went on record regarding the case, told the Associated Press-“Monsanto gets paid when it sell the seeds. The law gives producers the right to multiply the seeds they buy and nowhere in the world is there a requirement to pay (again). Producers are in effect paying a private tax on production.”--The practice of using renewal seeds dates back to ancient times, but Monsanto seeks to collect massive royalties and put an end to the practice. Eventually, the royalties compound and many farmers begin to struggle with even keeping their farm afloat. It is for this reason that India slammed Monsanto with groundbreaking  'bio-piracy' charges  in an effort to stop Monsanto from ‘patenting life’.--Jane Berwanger, a lawyer for the farmers who went on record regarding the case, told the Associated Press--“Monsanto gets paid when it sell the seeds. The law gives producers the right to multiply the seeds they buy and nowhere in the world is there a requirement to pay (again). Producers are in effect paying a private tax on production.”---The findings echo what thousands of farmers have experienced in particularly poor nations, where many of the farmers are unable to stand up to Monsanto. Back in 2008, the  Daily Mail covered  what is known as the ‘GM Genocide’, which is responsible for taking the lives of over 17,683 Indian farmers in 2009 alone. After finding that their harvests were failing and they started to enter economic turmoil, the farmers began ending their own lives — oftentimes drinking the very same insecticide that Monsanto provided them with.---As the information continues to surface on Monsanto’s crimes, further lawsuits will begin to take effect. After it was ousted in January that Monsanto was running illegal 'slave-like'  working rings, more individuals became aware of just how seriously Monsanto seems to disregard their workers — so why would they care for the health of their consumers? In April, another group of farmers  sued Monsanto for ‘knowingly poisoning’ workers and causing ‘devastating birth defects’.

Feb. 15, 2013 — Researchers in The Birchall Centre at Keele University, Staffordshire, UK, have provided unequivocal evidence that under conditions which are approximately similar to those found in the brain, copper can only protect against beta amyloid forming beta sheets and as such it is highly unlikely that copper is directly involved in the formation of senile plaques in Alzheimer's disease.--The research, published by Nature's online journal Scientific Reports, may also imply that lower levels of copper in the brain may promote the mechanisms whereby beta amyloid is deposited as senile plaques in Alzheimer's disease.--This research addressed the on-going question as to whether copper in the brain contributes to the formation of the senile plaques in Alzheimer's disease. While previous research at Keele's Birchall Centre pointed towards copper being potentially protective in preventing the protein beta amyloid from aggregating as beta sheets and forming senile plaques it had remained a controversial issue for some.

Gut Bacteria Linked to Cholesterol Metabolism

Feb. 18, 2013 — Researchers at the Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Sweden, show that cholesterol metabolism is regulated by bacteria in the small intestine. These findings may be important for the development of new drugs for cardiovascular disease.--It is well established that cholesterol is the major risk factor for cardiovascular disease.[U1]  Cholesterol -- which is mainly synthesized in the body but also obtained from dietary sources -- is converted to bile acids in the liver, which are then secreted into the intestine and either removed from the body or recycled back to the liver.--The influence of gut bacteria on human health and disease is a rapidly expanding research area. Fredrick Bäckhed's research group is a leader in this field and is investigating how gut bacteria are linked to lifestyle diseases such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. --In a study published in the journal Cell Metabolism, they show that gut bacteria reduce bile acid synthesis in the liver by signaling through a specific protein, known as the FXR receptor, in the small intestine. -'Drugs that reduce cholesterol levels have, in recent years, greatly reduced deaths from cardiovascular disease. Our study is a step forward because we have shown how gut bacteria regulate the formation of bile acids from cholesterol', says Sama Sayin, medical doctor and PhD student at the Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, and the study's first author.-The FXR receptor not only affects cholesterol metabolism but is also involved in the body's sugar and fat metabolism[U2] .-'If future research can identify the specific bacteria that affect FXR signaling in the gut, this could lead to new ways to treat diabetes and cardiovascular disease', says Fredrik Bäckhed, professor at the Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, who led the study.--Story Source-The above story is reprinted from materials provided by University of Gothenburg, via AlphaGalileo.--Journal Reference--Fredrick Bäckhed et al. Unidentified viral-fungal-like pathogen crosses into multiple kingdoms--Plant & Animal-Human.

Following a 6 year approval battle, the USDA fully deregulated Monsanto's Roundup Ready alfalfa in January 2011. A week later, they partially deregulated GM sugar beets. This occurred despite Secretary of Agriculture's Tom Vilsack's knowledge of a stark warning letter by Dr. Don M. Huber, Emeritus Professor of Plant Pathology, Purdue University two weeks prior, who found a link between the modified organisms and the proliferation of the new pathogen. Huber knew about its presence in Roundup Ready soy and corn and sought to hold off the GE alfalfa calling the situation an "emergency."---Dr. Huber said "we don't know what it is" - it's a new entity first noticed by veterinarians in the late '90s, new to science. It's not a virus, although similar, actually smaller in size and like a fungus that spreads like a virus. It's[U3]  contained in Roundup Ready (RR) and Roundup sprayed plants and feed and bizarrely affects all farmland animals often with infertility and spontaneous abortions - an inter-species syndrome that could be the first of its kind. ---So it's not just a side-effect of endocrine-disrupting pesticides or transmission of genetic material[U4]  - it's a new pathogen the USDA ignored. There is increasing evidence it's already affecting humans with infertility and reproductive problems, but the USDA filed the warning in the garbage.

An excerpt from Huber's letter--We are informing the USDA of our findings at this early stage, specifically due to your pending decision regarding approval of alfalfa. Naturally, if either the Roundup Ready gene or Roundup itself is a promoter or co-factor of this pathogen, then such approval could be a calamity[U5] .---For the past 40 years, I have been a scientist in the professional and military agencies that evaluate and prepare for natural and manmade biological threats, including germ warfare and disease outbreaks. Based on this experience, I believe the threat we are facing from this pathogen is unique and of a high risk status. In layman’s terms, it should be treated as an emergency. --Please read more about Huber's discovery and the fallout from Mike Ludwig of Occupy Monsanto.---So far, it appears the White House and even the Supreme Court continue turning a blind eye to any indication that this new pathogen could be harmful to plants or humans[U6] . Even in the light of studies that have shown the "micro-fungus" is present in a "wide variety" of livestock suffering from infertility and spontaneous abortions at a rate as high as 45% above average. (Occupy Monsanto)----just icing on the cake, studies have indicated that the use of RR crops leads to an increased use of the pesticide Roundup which is reported to have a deadly impact on DNA. So, with the danger involved we have to wonder: Why the rush, when even farmers have come forward to say that weeds aren't really that big of a problem in alfalfa? Why should we be exposed to untested pathogens, unneeded alterations to crops and increased use of deadly pesticides? More leading researchers are taking a stand and asking the same questions, and there are conflicts of interest within the USDA touched on below.

This struggle against GMOs broke new ground by being the first case to make it to the Supreme Court. Filed in 2005, the suit led initially to an injunction prohibiting sales of RR alfalfa. The initial concern was cross-pollination (contamination). A warning letter to that effect was sent to Vilsack around the time of Huber's letter by Center for Food Safety.---During the hearing, Justice Antonin Scalia made it clear that he views GMO contamination, or cross-pollination, in a much different light.---This isn’t contamination of the New York City water supply - It’s the creation of plants of–of genetically engineered alfalfa which spring up that otherwise wouldn’t exist. It doesn’t even destroy the current plantings of non-genetically engineered alfalfa. This is not the end of the world. It really isn’t.[U7] ---No, it only affects human life and the entire eco-system.---Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, issued a statement of support for deregulation, but said flaws in the current regulatory system need to be addressed.---I applaud the USDA’s decision to deregulate Roundup Ready alfalfa, giving growers the green light to begin planting an abundant, affordable and safe crop - While I’m glad this decision was guided by sound science, I’m concerned that USDA’s process creates too much uncertainty for our growers. Alfalfa was one of nearly two dozen genetically modified crops awaiting USDA evaluation and approval–a bottlenecked process that hinders growth and progress.---Why the blind rush? It might be unsurprising to find out the major conflicts of interest. Tom Vilsack's are described in the Dr. Huber interview below. Additionally, after knowledge of the GE alfalfa deregulation, committee Chairman Frank Lucas (R-Oklahoma) said:--I am pleased that USDA used sound science and respected the limit of its statutory authority to make this decision.---His idea of USDA "sound science" comes with a price-tag. Mike Ludwig reported in 2011:  Monsanto was one of the top contributors to Lucas's campaign committee in 2010. A political action committee and individuals associated with Monsanto donated $11,000 to his campaign last year, and Lucas has received $1,247,844 from the agribusiness industry during his political career, according to watchdog site www.opensecrets.org.

Neurotoxins in Your Chocolate Milk!!!!

This is a time when the the public has an opportunity to materially affect how they, the consumers, may protect their own health and that of their offspring for generations to come. In that respect the timer is running down and anyone who consumes milk might want to see what the milk producers have planned.---The17 other dairy products on the hit list include acidified milk, cultured milk, sweetened condensed milk, nonfat dry milk, nonfat dry milk fortified with vitamins A and D, evaporated milk, dry cream, heavy cream, light cream, light whipping cream, sour cream, acidified sour cream, yogurt, low-fat yogurt, and non-fat yogurt[U8] .---To summarize the corporate petition, the IDFA and NMPF (International Dairy Foods Association and the National Milk Producers Federation) have petitioned the FDA to seek approval to allow optional characterizing flavoring ingredients used in milk (e.g., chocolate flavoring added to milk) to be sweetened with any safe and suitable sweetenerincluding non-nutritive sweeteners such as aspartame.[1[U9] ] The Federal Register has the petition listed on their website where it can be viewed and comments can be posted--The proposed amendments to the milk standard of identity would be to promote more healthy eating practices, reduce childhood obesity as well as to promote honesty and fair dealing in the marketplace, so they say[U10] . ---A more likely scenario is that by using aspartame to flavor the dairy products their costs will be lowered and their profits will increase. Buyers beware.Without doubt, the petitioners are using childhood obesity as the talking point to sell the idea of using the cheap but toxic aspartame as the sweetener or flavoring in dairy products. While the idea of more healthy eating habits and a reduction in childhood obesity are obviously good ideas, using additional aspartame in the food chain is counter-productive and dangerous. The diets of Americans and their children in particular, are already loaded with the substance[U11] .---We should be concerned!! with the study that was done by the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio which showed adverse health effects to people who consumed aspartame flavored diet drinks. [2] The study suggested that instead of fighting obesity and its associated hazards, the use of aspartame might actually contribute to the conditions. Honesty and fair dealing would necessarily preclude adding even more aspartame to our diets. Right off, that alone is reason enough to question their motives, however, there is more.---Professor E. Pretorius, P. Humphries and H. Naudé, reported several disturbing observations concerning aspartame consumption in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition.---Methanol, which forms 10% of the broken down product, is converted in the body to formate, which can either be excreted or can give rise to formaldehyde, diketopiperazine (a carcinogen) and a number of other highly toxic derivatives. Previously, it has been reported that consumption of aspartame could cause neurological and behavioural disturbances in sensitive individuals. Headaches, insomnia and seizures are also some of the neurological effects that have been encountered, and these may be accredited to changes in regional brain concentrations of catecholamines, which include norepinephrine, epinephrine and dopamine. The aim of this study was to discuss the direct and indirect cellular effects of aspartame on the brain, and we propose that excessive aspartame ingestion might be involved in the pathogenesis of certain mental disorders (DSM-IV-TR 2000) and also in compromised learning and emotional functioning. [3]----Perhaps the longest on-going study on the deleterious effects of aspartame consumption has been that of Woodrow Monte, PhD, Professor Emeritus of Food Science and Nutrition at Arizona State University. His 30-year research has established direct links between aspartame and several diseases, particularly the diseases of civilization such as heart disease, cancer, multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s. Dr. Monte’s studies center on the methanol-formaldehyde toxicity paradigm with compelling evidence. In his book, While Science Sleeps, Monte explains how he considers methanol a medical Trojan Horse.---Until 200 years ago, methanol was an extremely rare component of the human diet and is still rarely consumed in contemporary hunter and gatherer cultures. With the invention of canning in the 1800s, canned and bottled fruits and vegetables, whose methanol content greatly exceeds that of their fresh counterparts, became far more prevalent. The recent dietary introduction of aspartame, an artificial sweetener 11% methanol by weight, has also greatly increased methanol consumption. Moreover, methanol is a major component of cigarette smoke, known to be a causative agent of many diseases of civilization (DOC). Conversion to formaldehyde in organs other than the liver is the principal means by which methanol may cause disease. The known sites of class I alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH I), the only human enzyme capable of metabolizing methanol to formaldehyde, correspond to the sites of origin for many DOC.---Dr. Monte has also compiled a list of 745 other studies showing that aspartame is indeed a very dangerous substance when consumed by humans. [4]--Numerous other researchers have consistently found damaging evidence linking aspartame and formaldehyde via the methanol component of aspartame. Rich Murray, MA, has also compiled a list of respected studies. [5]---A study included in that list by C. Trocho et al, reports the following-Formaldehyde derived from dietary aspartame binds to tissue components in vivo. It clearly demonstrates cellular persistence and accumulation, or in layman’s terms, that formaldehyde can remain and accumulate in the body. It is absolutely established that formaldehyde converted from the methyl ester in aspartame embalms living tissue and damages DNA. [6]---Virtually all non-industry research shows that aspartame should never be consumed by humans. If this amendment is passed the mission of the FDA would be compromised and public health will be endangered.---A small window of opportunity exists for concerned citizens to exercise a degree of self-defense in dietary matters for themselves and for the health of their children; May 21, 2013, is the last day for public comments on the issue of allowing aspartame to be used in a wide range of diary products.

These Substances may Detoxify Methanol

Amino Acids-

Cysteine may detoxify Methanol-

N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC) may reduce the toxicity of Methanol in the Brain.

Enzymes--Alcohol Dehydrogenase facilitates the detoxification of Methanol within the Liver (it catalyzes the conversion of Methanol to Formaldehyde).

Vitamins

Folic Acid may reduce the toxicity of Methanol.  Degradation of Formic Acid (Methanol’s ultimate metabolic end-product) is dependent on adequate Folic Acid.  Persons who are deficient in Folic Acid may experience more severe symptoms of Methanol toxicity due to increased accumulation of Formic Acid in the body.  references

Vitamin C may accelerate the conversion of Methanol to Formaldehyde and may reduce body movement abnormalities caused by Methanol.  references

Vitamin E may inhibit the ability of Methanol to damage the Liver.

A 10% ethanol solution administered intravenously is a safe and effective antidote for severe methanol poisoning-- Ethanol as antidote

Competitively blocks the formation of toxic metabolites in toxic alcohol ingestions by having a higher affinity for the enzyme Alcohol Dehydrogenase (ADH). Its chief application is in methanol and ethylene glycol ingestions, although it has been used with other toxic alcohols. Ethanol is now regarded as the second choice antidote in those countries with access to the specific ADH blocker

 Aspartame Toxicity is Misdiagnosed

Frequently, aspartame toxicity is misdiagnosed as a specific disease. This has yet to be reported in the scientific literature, yet it has been reported countless times to independent organizations and scientists (Mission Possible 1994, Stoddard 1995).  In other cases, it has been reported that chronic aspartame ingestion has triggered or worsened certain chronic illnesses.  Nearly 100% of the time, the patient and physician assume that these worsening conditions are simply a normal progression of the illness.  Sometimes that may be the case, but many times it is chronic aspartame poisoning. According to researchers and physicians studying the adverse effects of aspartame, the following list contains a selection of chronic illnesses which may be caused or worsened by the chronic, long-term ingestion of aspartame. Analysis Shows Nearly 100% of Independent Research Finds Problems With Aspartame

An analysis of peer reviewed medical literature using MEDLINE and other databases was conducted by Ralph G. Walton, MD, Chairman, The Center for Behavioral Medicine, Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. Dr. Walton analyzed 164 studies which were felt to have relevance to human safety questions. Of those studies, 74 studies had aspartame industry-related sponsorship and 90 were funded without any industry money.

Of the 90 non-industry-sponsored studies, 83 (92%) identified one or more problems with aspartame. Of the 7 studies which did not find a problems, 6 of those studies were conducted by the FDA. Given that a number of FDA officials went to work for the aspartame industry immediately following approval (including the former FDA Commissioner), many consider these studies to be equivalent to industry-sponsored research.

Of the 74 aspartame industry-sponsored studies, all 74 (100%) claimed that no problems were found with aspartame. This is reminiscent of tobacco industry research where it is primarily the tobacco research which never finds problems with the product, but nearly all of the independent studies do find problems.

The 74 aspartame industry-sponsored studies are those which one inveriably sees cited in PR/news reports and reported by organizations funded by Monsanto/Benevia/NutraSweet (e.g., IFIC, ADA). These studies have severe design deficiencies which help to guarantee the "desired" outcomes. These design deficiencies may not be apparent to the inexperienced scientist. Healthcare practitioners and scientists should print out the all of the documents on the Monsanto/NutraSweet Scientific Abuse web page, the Scientific FAQs web page and the Aspartame Toxicity Reaction Report Samples. Aspartame Ingestion Causes Formaldehyde Accumulation in the Body

Excerpt from:

Trocho, C., et al., 1998. "Formaldehyde Derived From Dietary Aspartame Vinds to Tissue Components in vivo," Life Sciences, Vol. 63, No. 5, pp. 337+, 1998

"These are indeed extremely high levels for adducts of formaldehyde, a substance responsible for chronic deleterious effects that has also been considered carcinogenic.
....
"It is concluded that aspartame consumption may constitute a hazard because of its contribution to the formation of formaldehyde adducts."

"It was a very interesting paper, that demonstrates that formaldehyde formation from aspartame ingestion is very common and does indeed accumulate within the cell, reacting with cellular proteins (mostly enzymes) and DNA (both mitochondrial and nuclear). The fact that it accumulates with each dose, indicates grave consequences among those who consume diet drinks and foodstuffs on a daily basis." (Neuroscientist Russell Blaylock, MD)

Aspartame and MSG Cause Painful Fibromyalgia Symptoms

Ann Pharmacother 2001 Jun;35(6):702-6
Relief of fibromyalgia symptoms following discontinuation of dietary excitotoxins.
Smith JD, Terpening CM, Schmidt SO, Gums JG. Malcolm Randall Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Gainesville, FL, USA.

BACKGROUND: Fibromyalgia is a common rheumatologic disorder that is often difficult to treat effectively. CASE SUMMARY: Four patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia syndrome for two to 17 years are described. All had undergone multiple treatment modalities with limited success. All had complete, or nearly complete, resolution of their symptoms within months after eliminating monosodium glutamate (MSG) or MSG plus aspartame from their diet. All patients were women with multiple comorbidities prior to elimination of MSG. All have had recurrence of symptoms whenever MSG is ingested. DISCUSSION: Excitotoxins are molecules, such as MSG and aspartate, that act as excitatory neurotransmitters, and can lead to neurotoxicity when used in excess. We propose that these four patients may represent a subset of fibromyalgia syndrome that is induced or exacerbated by excitotoxins or, alternatively, may comprise an excitotoxin syndrome that is similar to fibromyalgia. We suggest that identification of similar patients and research with larger numbers of patients must be performed before definitive conclusions can be made. CONCLUSIONS: The elimination of MSG and other excitotoxins from the diets of patients with fibromyalgia offers a benign treatment option that has the potential for dramatic results in a subset of patients. MIND DANGEROUS DIET DRINKS
CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT YOU HAD FOR LUNCH?
WHAT YOU ATE OR DRANK MIGHT BE THE REASON.
New research suggests that the artificial sweetener aspartame may actually go to your head.
By Peter Rebhahn

Anecdotal evidence that aspartame disrupts memory has been growing since the sugar substitute was approved in the early 1980s, though attempts to prove the claim have so far been equivocal. Previous studies have tested memory by asking aspartame users to remember lists of words or numbers-- tests of short-term memory. But according to Timothy M. Barth, Ph.D., a psychology professor at Texas Christian University, those studies focused on the wrong type of memory.

In his study of 90 students, Barth found that participants who regularly drank diet sodas containing aspartame performed as well as nonusers on laboratory tests. However, aspartame users were more likely to report long-term memory lapses like forgetting details of personal routines or whether or not a task had been completed.

"These people aren't crazy," says Barth. Instead, "the type of memory problems they report are not the type of memories that have been assessed in the typical laboratory study."

After reporting his findings at a recent Society for Neuroscience meeting, Barth cautioned that he thinks it's premature to condemn aspartame. But he does worry about the largely untested effects of long-term use. Already, he has made some converts. "Several of my graduate students who drank diet soda no longer do."

Aspartame and Lymphomas / Leukemias

A long-term study linking aspartame ingestion to lymphomas and leukemias in animals. The full study can be read at: http://www.ramazzini.it/fondazione/docs/AspartameGEO2005.pdf. Neurosurgeon Russell Blaylock M.D. commented: "The new study released in the European Journal of Oncology by Morando Soffritti and co-workers should terrify mothers and all those consuming aspartame sweetened products. This was a carefully done study which clearly demonstrated a statistically significant increase in several types of lymphomas and leukemias in rats. Both of these malignancies have increased significantly in this country since the widespread use of aspartame.

"This study confirmed the previous study by Dr. Trocho and co-workers, which also found the formaldehyde breakdown product of aspartame to be damaging to cellular DNA and that this damage was accumulative. The type of damage was a duplicate of that associated with cancers. Along with this most recent study, this means that drinking a single diet cola sweetened with aspartame every day could increase one's risk of developing a lymphoma or leukemia.

"They also found an increased incidence of malignant brain tumors, even though it was not statistically significant. This does not mean there is no association to brain tumors, since only the animals exposed to aspartame developed the tumors. With children and pregnant women drinking the largest amount of diet colas, this puts their children at the greatest risk of developing one of these horrible diseases. Their study found that even low doses of aspartame could cause these malignancies; yet, the higher the dose, the more cancers that were seen."

A followup study was published in Environmental Health Perspectives showing that there was a significant increase in cancer of the kidney and peripheral nerves. The full published study can be found in PDF format at: http://ehp.niehs.nih.gov/members/2005/8711/8711.pdf.

A study conducted at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center reported a "41% increase in risk of being overweight for every can or bottle of diet soft drink a person consumes each day." The findings come from eight years of collecting data by Sharon P. Fowler, MPH and colleagues. The results of the study was reported at the 65th Annual Scientific Sessions of the American Diabetes Association in San Diet on June 10-14, 2005 (Abstract 1058-P). While this study, by itself, does not prove that aspartame causes weight gain, it adds to the evidence seen in independent research. For example, a study conducted by Dr. H.J. Roberts found that 5% of subjects reporting symptoms from aspartame also reported a "paridoxic weight gain." (Reactions Attributed to Aspartame-Containing Products: 551 Cases," Journal of Applied Nutrition, Volume 40, page 85-94). Lavin found that females with eating restraint had a higher Calorie intake subsequent to aspartame intake as opposed to sugar or water intake. (Lavin, J.H., S.J. French, N.W. Read, 1997. "The Effect of Sucrose- and Aspartame-Sweetened Drinks on Energy Intake, Hunger and Food Choice of Female, Moderately Restrained Eaters," International Journal of Obesity, Volume 21, pages 37-42, 1997.)

Aspartame and Combined Toxicity from Formaldehyde & Excitotoxins

A study published in Toxicology (2005 Jun 1; 210(2-3): 235-45. "Cytotoxic effect of formaldehyde with free radicals via increment of cellular reactive oxygen species.") by Saito and colleagues demonstrates that formaldehyde is much more toxic to cells when free radical levels are increased. As has been demonstrated by Trocho, et al. in 1998, aspartame ingestion leads to the significant exposure to and accumulation of formaldehyde adducts in the organs and tissues. In addition, 40% of aspartame breaks down into an excitotoxic amino acid. As Neuroscientist Russell Blaylock points out, "Excitotoxins destroy neurons partly by stimulating the generation of large numbers of free radicals."

12 Environmental Health Experts Call for Aspartame Review and Possible Ban

Souring on Fake Sugar

Fearful it causes cancer, 12 U.S. environmental health experts last week asked the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to review the potential health risks of the artificial sweetener aspartame, which appears in everything from medicines to diet sodas.

A study published last month in Environmental Health Perspectives found somewhat more leukaemias and lymphomas in male rats receiving less aspartame than the recommended maximum for humans; at higher doses, the rats had a marked increase in cancers throughout the body.

The letter from the 12 U.S. environmental health experts can be found at:

[U1]Again this report is outdated and should be re evaluated---cholesterol does not affect heart issues unless it is excessively damaged and if one is consuming a huge amount of grain or grain byproduct or sugar

[U2]Key issue here---the whole crux of the body’s sugar and cholesterol management is tied to a healthy colon

[U3]Morgellons?? A fungus spreading like a virus---food sabotage??—possible bio warfare??? Something to consider

[U4]Birth Control through Genetics?? Now consider this –if life begats life and you have something being utilized to curtail the life force or life creating---then what happens to the host or to the people who have a reproductive system?? If the reproductive system becomes compromised then you start to age and die ---this would appear to speed up the process

[U5]Gov’t’s have investments tied up into the bio tech sector---imagine the fiscal loss

[U6]Just a thought here ---could we be somehow being taking over by an invader of some kind---does this not wreak of an invasion—a means to cause biological death---something I would induce to an enemy or even something I wanted removed from an environment---as if it were a cockroach or other bug?? Just a thought

[U7]A Judge making this assertion would like to know where this judge studied genetics??

[U8]This is a direct affront on foods people eat and what they can afford---these dairy products are going to be contaminated with this “ Ant Neurol Toxin” into the food supply and should be aware this will increase health issue across the USA and Canada—so either stock pile—have a cow or goat you can milk

[U9]Look at the wording here---it is thrown together in such a way that one may think aspartame is acceptable when it is

[U10]Another misguided attempt to sway people with the nonsense of health and promotion of health---look at the appearance again---nothing here about health or benefit by adding Ant Poison to food

[U11]This is called Double speech where you say one thing and mean the opposite----the idea of being concerned over the health of the offspring as the excuse and then turning them around to be poisoned with ant poison is a bit contradictory—and observing this behavior is something that has become all to prevalent ---the double speech here is about attacking the youth to further their demise mentally

Food crisis needed for Europe to accept GM

US government adviser---It will take a food security crisis to make European consumers recognise the need for genetically modified (GM) food, warns a senior US government adviser[U1]  --Bobo, senior biotechnology adviser to the US State Department, told a Chartered Institute of Marketing seminar in London yesterday (February -It will take a crisis to make everyone [in Europe]see the point of GM-There will be a move from not liking GM [food technology] to requiring it[U2] . That was the worst possible outcome but, unfortunately, it was also the most likely outcome In his lecture[U3]  – Can agriculture save the world before it destroys it? – Bobo argued that GM food technology was vital to safeguard food security, economic security and national security[U4] . GM techniques could deliver improved yields and nutrition while reducing the use of pesticides, greenhouse gas emissions, water use and soil erosion, he said-Peak child’ [U5] As the global population was predicted to reach more than 9bn by 2050, the benefits of GM could no longer be ignored in an increasingly hungry world. Since the world had now reached ‘peak child’ [the highest number of children there will ever be]the decisions made between now and 2050 would be the most important [food] decisions that will ever be taken. Either we cut down more forest, or do it [agriculture in a more sustainable way than at present-Feeding up to 9bn people will require the world to produce as much food as in the previous 10,000 years[U6] , he said. To do that will require the best of different technologies, including organic techniques such as minimum cultivations to save water, plus conventional farming and GM, he said But such an eclectic approach to food production would require more effective dialogue between people with opposing views, he added.“We need to move from protest to conversation-[U7] No single technology supplied all the answers to meeting the challenge of increased food production. For example, biotechnology “isn’t going to solve climate change or food security by itself No exportable surplus food’ But adopting solely organic farming would severely limit yield[U8] , he said. -If the US were all organic, we would have no exportable surplus food. We would have enough food for the US, but there would be repercussions For[U9]  example, Europe depended on food imports – particularly from Brazil. While Europe had the right to decide its own food policy – such as to reject GM production – it should be aware of “the consequences of those choices” both at home and for trade partners, he said.“The extra land mass outside the continent-needed to feed Europe is about the size of Germany. This is the consequence of technology choices- Bobo also highlighted the need to understand that agricultural exports involved not just food but the water used to produce it-;“When we ship steak to Europe, we also ship the embedded water used to make it -he said. “70% of all the world’s fresh water goes to agriculture- Meanwhile, Nestlé boss Paul Bulcke, speaking earlier this week at the City Food Lecture, urged industry, government and other stakeholders to act decisively to mitigate the massive food shortages.-“It is anticipated that there will be up to 30% shortfalls in global cereal production by 2030 due to "http://www.foodmanufacture.co.uk/World-News/Nestle-boss-praises-higher-food-prices-and-speculation" water scarcity said Bulcke.“This is a loss equivalent to the entire grain crops of India and the-"http://i.trkjmp.com/click?v=Q0E6MzI1MjQ6MTc0OnVuaXRlZDpiMjkwNDJlYTNiMjM4YjU2OTM3NDBhZWY0MjM1MWU2Mzp6LTEzMzUtMTQ3Mzc2Ond3dy5mb29kbWFudWZhY3R1cmUuY28udWs6MzEyNjU6MDRiYjRjNjM3N2QyZTY2ZTU2MDIzYWZiYjVjZWJlOGY" Demographics:“The number of children in the world today will never be greater than it is now. We have reached 'peak child'.”--Organic “In general, organic agriculture produces about one-third less than conventional agriculture. But it can produce more of some products [such as fruit]”Trade: “European [food] choices affect agriculture in Brazil, because it’s the biggest exporter to Europe. Europe has the right to make its own food choices but it must be aware of the consequences of those choices.”Science:“Science and technology are considered to be bad but they have helped us reach where we are today.”--US food production: “The goal is not for the US to feed the world but for the world to feed itself. Not for us to give food to Africa forever but to help farmers before food crises happen.”

Walking Away from Back Pain

Lower back pain is a common complaint, and treatment often requires many hours of physical therapy over multiple weekly clinic visits -- a costly commitment. ---Mar. 5, 2013 — Lower back pain is a common complaint, and treatment often requires many hours of physical therapy over multiple weekly clinic visits -- a costly commitment. Now Dr. Michal Katz-Leurer of Tel Aviv University's Stanley Steyer School of Health Professions at the Sackler Faculty of Medicine says that a simple aerobic walking program is as effective in alleviating lower back pain as muscle strengthening programs that require specialized equipment in rehabilitation clinics. The program includes walking two to three times a week for a period of 20 to 40 minutes.--Dr. Katz-Leurer and her colleague Ilana Shnayderman, a graduate student at the Department of Physical Therapy and a practicing physiotherapist at Maccabi Health Care, say that their treatment option fits easily into a daily routine and allows those with back pain to be more responsible for their own health.--Their study was published in the journal Clinical Rehabilitation.

A simple solution---According to Dr. Katz-Leurer, research has shown that when people walk actively, abdominal and back muscles work in much the same way as when they complete exercises that target these areas. And unlike muscle strengthening programs, which often call for specific equipment and can involve exercises that require expert supervision, walking is a simple activity that can be done alone.--For the study, the researchers recruited 52 patients with lower back pain to participate in a randomized control trial. Through questionnaires, they were initially assessed for pain levels, feelings of disability, and avoidance of daily activities, as well as muscle and walking endurance.----Then, half of the participants completed a typical clinic-based muscle strengthening program, with two to three exercise sessions a week for six weeks. The other half completed a six-week aerobic walking program, walking two to three times weekly. Participants started with 20 minutes of walking, then progressed to 40 minutes as their endurance improved.----Results showed that both groups improved significantly in all areas of assessment, demonstrating that the walking program was "as effective as treatment that could have been received in the clinic," says Dr. Katz-Leurer.

The path to a healthier lifestyle---Dr. Katz-Leurer says that the walking program has the additional advantage of encouraging patients to follow a healthier lifestyle overall. In terms of physical fitness, those in the walking group were able to walk an average of 0.05 miles farther during a six-minute walking test at the end of the program compared to the pre-program assessments.---She also notes that that regularly active people are less likely to suffer typical aches and pains over their lifetime. Walking, a low-impact activity, also lowers blood pressure, boosts brain and immune system functioning, and reduces stress, she says. Several studies suggest that regular consumption of nuts, mostly walnuts, may have beneficial effects against oxidative stress mediated diseases such as cardiovascular disease and cancer. Walnuts contain several phenolic compounds which are thought to contribute to their biological properties. The present study reports the total phenolic contents and antioxidant properties of methanolic and petroleum ether extracts obtained from walnut (Juglans regia L.) seed, green husk and leaf. The total phenolic contents were determined by the Folin-Ciocalteu method and the antioxidant activities assessed by the ability to quench the stable free radical 2,2'-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and to inhibit the 2,2'-azobis(2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride (AAPH)-induced oxidative hemolysis of human erythrocytes. Methanolic seed extract presented the highest total phenolic content (116 mg GAE/g of extract) and DPPH scavenging activity (EC(50) of 0.143 mg/mL), followed by leaf and green husk. In petroleum ether extracts, antioxidant action was much lower or absent. Under the oxidative action of AAPH, all methanolic extracts significantly protected the erythrocyte membrane from hemolysis in a time- and concentration-dependent manner, although leaf extract inhibitory efficiency was much stronger (IC(50) of 0.060 mg/mL) than that observed for green husks and seeds (IC(50) of 0.127 and 0.121 mg/mL, respectively). Walnut methanolic extracts were also assayed for their antiproliferative effectiveness using human renal cancer cell lines A-498 and 769-P and the colon cancer cell line Caco-2. All extracts showed concentration-dependent growth inhibition toward human kidney and colon cancer cells. Concerning A-498 renal cancer cells, all extracts exhibited similar growth inhibition activity (IC(50) values between 0.226 and 0.291 mg/mL), while for both 769-P renal and Caco-2 colon cancer cells, walnut leaf extract showed a higher antiproliferative efficiency (IC(50) values of 0.352 and 0.229 mg/mL, respectively) than green husk or seed extracts. The results obtained herein strongly indicate that walnut tree constitute an excellent source of effective natural antioxidants and chemopreventive agents.

Reciepe—take the leaf of the Walnut tree and make a extract out of using a blender or allow to sit in a alcohol solution for several weeks---then use the extract as needed in small increments due to the potency----

Digestible Indispensable Amino Acid Score -DIAAS --New protein quality method provides important information on sustainable diet

New method confirms the high bioavailability of dairy proteins and their ability to complement other proteins by being a rich source of dietary essential amino acids

Rosemont, IL (February 27, 2013) – A groundbreaking report by an Expert Consultation of the Food and Agriculture Organization of United Nations (FAO) has recommended a new, advanced method for assessing the quality of dietary proteins.---The report, "Dietary protein quality evaluation in human nutrition", recommends that the Digestible Indispensable Amino Acid Score (DIAAS) replace the Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS) as the preferred method of measuring protein quality. The report recommends that more data be developed to support full implementation, but in the interim, protein quality should be calculated using DIAAS values derived from fecal crude protein digestibility data. Under the current PDCAAS method, values are "truncated" to a maximum score of 1.00, even if scores derived are higher.---Protein is vital to support the health and well-being of human populations. However, not all proteins are alike as they vary according to their origin (animal, vegetable), their individual amino acid composition and their level of amino acid bioactivity. "High quality proteins" are those that are readily digestible and contain the dietary essential amino acids in quantities that correspond to human requirements.---"Over the next 40 years, 3 billion people will be added to today's global population of 6.6 billion. Creating a sustainable diet to meet their nutritive needs is an extraordinary challenge that we won't be able to meet unless [I10] we have accurate information to evaluate a food's profile and its ability to deliver nutrition," said Professor Paul Moughan, co-director of the Riddet Institute, who chaired the FAO Expert Consultation. "The recommendation of the DIAAS method is a dramatic change that will finally provide an accurate measure of the amounts of amino acids absorbed by the body and an individual protein source's contribution to a human's amino acid and nitrogen requirements. This will be an important piece of information for decision makers assessing which foods should be part of a sustainable diet for our growing global population."--Using the DIAAS method, researchers are now able to differentiate protein sources by their ability to supply amino acids for use by the body. For example, the DIAAS method was able to demonstrate the higher bioavailability of dairy proteins when compared to plant-based protein sources. Data in the FAO report showed whole milk powder to have a DIAAS score of 1.22, far superior to the DIAAS score of 0.64 for peas and 0.40 for wheat. When compared to the highest refined soy isolate, dairy protein DIAAS scores were 10% to 30% higher . ---DIAAS determines amino acid digestibility, at the end of the small intestine, providing a more accurate measure of the amounts of amino acids absorbed by the body and the protein's contribution to human amino acid and nitrogen requirements. PDCAAS is based on an estimate of crude protein digestibility determined over the total digestive tract, and values stated using this method generally overestimate the amount of amino acids absorbed[I11] . Some food products may claim high protein content, but since the small intestine does not absorb all amino acids the same, they are not providing the same contribution to a human's nutritional requirements. ---Since its adoption by FAO/WHO in 1991, the PDCAAS method had been widely accepted but also criticized for a number of reasons. In addition to the issues of truncation and overestimation, PDCAAS did not adequately adjust for foods susceptible to damage from processing and anti-nutritionals, which can make some amino acids unavailable for absorption[I12] . ---"We support the recommendations of the FAO Expert Consultation, including the immediate use of DIAAS values calculated from fecal crude protein digestibility data," said Donald Moore, Executive Director, Global Dairy Platform. "Immediately removing 'truncation' will provide health professionals, regulators and policy makers a more accurate representation of which foods provide the highest quality of nutrition. We urge industry to support the additional research required to enable implementation of the more accurate DIAAS method. "--About Global Dairy Platform ---Established in 2006, GLOBAL DAIRY PLATFORM's mission is to align and support the dairy industry to promote sustainable dairy nutrition. Health and Fitness Series--The Weaponization of Sugar, Salt, and Fat

What are you putting into your mouth? Where does it come from? How is it made? Do you enjoy paying for the staggering healthcare costs of millions of obese Americans who are making poor nutrition choices?---Democracy Now has an interview with Michael Moss whose new book Salt, Sugar, Fat: How The Food Giants Hooked Us was recently the subject of a major cover story on the processed food industry in the NY Times Sunday Magazine-“On the evening of April 8, 1999, a long line of Town Cars and taxis pulled up to the Minneapolis headquarters of Pillsbury and discharged 11 men who controlled America’s largest food companies. Nestlé was in attendance, as were Kraft and Nabisco, General Mills and Procter & Gamble, Coca-Cola and Mars. Rivals any other day, the C.E.O.’s and company presidents had come together for a rare, private meeting. On the agenda was one item: the emerging obesity epidemic and how to deal with it. …As he spoke, Mudd clicked through a deck of slides — 114 in all — projected on a large screen behind him. The figures were staggering. More than half of American adults were now considered overweight, with nearly one-quarter of the adult population 40 million people — clinically defined as obese. Among children, the rates had more than doubled since 1980, and the number of kids considered obese had shot past 12 million. (This was still only 1999; the nation’s obesity rates would climb much higher.) Food manufacturers were now being blamed for the problem from all sides — academia, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society. The secretary of agriculture, over whom the industry had long held sway, had recently called obesity a “national epidemic.” … The meeting was remarkable, first, for the insider admissions of guilt. But I was also struck by how prescient the organizers of the sit-down had been. Today, one in three adults is considered clinically obese, along with one in five kids, and 24 million Americans are afflicted by type 2 diabetes, often caused by poor diet, with another 79 million people having pre-diabetes. Even gout, a painful form of arthritis once known as “the rich man’s disease” for its associations with gluttony, now afflicts eight million Americans.--The public and the food companies have known for decades now — or at the very least since this meeting — that sugary, salty, fatty foods are not good for us in the quantities that we consume them. So why are the diabetes and obesity and hypertension numbers still spiraling out of control? …There is even a Jewish angle to this story other than the kosher tax-“Stung by the rejection, Cadbury Schweppes in 2004 turned to a food-industry legend named Howard Moskowitz. Moskowitz, who studied mathematics and holds a Ph.D. in experimental psychology from Harvard, runs a consulting firm in White Plains, where for more than three decades he has “optimized” a variety of products for Campbell Soup, General Foods, Kraft and PepsiCo. “I’ve optimized soups,” Moskowitz told me. “I’ve optimized pizzas. I’ve optimized salad dressings and pickles. In this field, I’m a game changer.” … Huge corporations like Kraft, General Mills, and Coca-Cola are using the latest science to make nutritionally inferior junk foods loaded with salt, sugar, and fat – like the 400 calories that are in 1 cup of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese – more tasty and addictive. The result of all this corporate manipulation of the American diet (like stripping fiber and minerals out of food to make you stay hungry all the time) has been a national downward spiral into obesity and soaring healthcare costs.-NPR has another interview with Moss that explores how Coca-Cola, which forced Atlanta’s business class to capitulate to integration in the 1960s, has successfully marketed its high calorie diabetes water to the point where it has become the recognized brandname in the entire world.-Source: http://www.occidentaldissent.com/2013/03/04/the-weaponization-of-sugar-salt-and-fat/

Recipe for High Levels of Several Toxic Metals Found in Children With Autism

It was found that 38-47 percent of the variation of autism severity was associated with the level of several toxic metals, with cadmium and mercury being the most strongly associated[U13] .---In the paper about the study, the authors state "We hypothesize that reducing early exposure to toxic metals may help ameliorate symptoms of autism, and treatment to remove toxic metals may reduce symptoms of autism; these hypotheses need further exploration, as there is a growing body of research to support it." The study was led by James Adams, a President's Professor in the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy, one of ASU's Ira A. [U1]We are talking war here---to get Europe to concede on it’s stand against GMO’s or GE would require  A MORE CENTRALIZED EUROPE one which answers only to a counsel to which all laws are enforced vigorously like the UN and the UN peace keeping militia which enforces nations to comply

[U2]Again a War would be the solution---sicne the inception of a EURO Union---what  few benefits it does bring is the fact that all the member countries can access each other and buy there goods across the border so there would be diversity which is extremely difficult to control—but at the same time if you collapse one of the member countries the rest fall like dominos--

[U3]So this tells you that plans are in motion to do this very thing to undermine the European Autonomy on what they grow and cannot

[U4]Security????  And how does this work in this situation---if you have blighted crops---then what you have isa universal collapse due to lack of biodiversity

[U5]This has never worked nor has GMO’s ever lived up to this hype ---ever---they use more resources and are labour intense then conventional growing without the heavy use of Genetics---the interesting thing here is whether your using a chemical protectant or a genetic one you still alter plant  genetics

[U6]It will be easier to get the planet in a war

[U7]In other words compromise---you cannot have organic and non organic growing side by side---the genetic code will over write the other---so it is impossible to have coexistence

[U8]There yields are usually 30% more then GE’s

[U9]Repercussions?? For who the BIOTECH companies that could not exploit farmers and strip them of there lands?? mayne

[I10]This goes to show how much more your excreting out in other words how little you are actually digesting Soy has always been  a poor protein and the system had to changr to compensate for the por use of the protein so they referred to the amino acid profile---which really said nothing---now we are having DIASS type of measurement which is clear stating what was said 35 + years ago about soy and whey that whey was superior---

[I11]Again as stated this was done to over compensate the inferior proteins you would get from rice or soy or nuts and seeds---the soy was the main reason so that it could be sold---prior to the change sales for soy were poor and people did not consume them til there was a huge marketing blitz to promote this toxic food

[I12]These proteins usually contained antinutrients or trypsn inhibitors making them ineffective and toxic and cancer causing

 [U13]Mercury would be from vaccines

Synapse on Nutrition

Carbohydrates (200g): Any molecule consisting only of Carbon, Hydrogen, and Oxygen. Flour, corn, bread, rice, pasta, your cells don't care. What you need is D-Glucose. The Citric Acid Cycle metabolizes glucose and generates ATP, the cellular 'currency' for energy. Carbs can chain together and come in the form of monosaccharides (like lactose), disaccharides (table sugar), oligosaccharides, or polysaccharides, which are very long chains. Short chains get metabolized very quickly, leading to a 'sugar rush', and long chains can be difficult to digest. I use only oligosaccharides, like Maltodextrin, for Carbohydrates. This mechanism can also metabolize protein and fat, but the brain can only use Glucose for energy. In fact, the brain uses 25% of the body's glucose, though it accounts for only 2% of its weight.

Protein (50g): Protein is a very general term. What your body needs is 9 'essential' (meaning the body cannot produce it itself), amino acids: Histidine, Isoleucine, Leucine, Lysine, Methionine, Phenylalaline, Threonine, Tryptophan, and Valine. Eukaryotes use 21 different amino acids for protein synthesis. The human genome contains approximately 20,000 protein coding genes. It's a complex system. Without these essentials there are some proteins you will not be able to produce.

Fat (65g): Fat has gotten a bad rap. Without it you wouldn't be able to absorb some essential vitamins, like A, D, E, and K. Fats are triglycerides, and can be saturated or unsaturated, depending on the bonds within the carbon chain. Fat maintains healthy skin and hair, and cushions the body's organs. Some fats, though, like trans-saturated fats, are difficult for the body to metabolize, and have been linked to heart disease and obesity. I get all the fat I need, in nearly perfect proportion of saturated and unsaturated, and no trans fats, from olive oil.

Cholesterol(X): Cholesterol is used in cell membranes and intracellular transport. However, the body is able to synthesize it on its own and regulates the rate of production. So, even though the FDA recommends it I feel it's more of a maximum than a recommendation. Soylent has no cholesterol whatsoever.

Sodium(2.4g): You'll notice a lot of the elements the body needs are ions. Cells communicate with action potentials, electrical voltage differences which accumulate due to the presence of positive or negative ions. Sodium ions are used to regulate blood volume, blood pressure, pH, and osmotic equilibrium. Sodium and Chloride are conveniently found in table salt.

Potassium(3.5g): Potassium is important in neurological functioning, which is one reason it bothers me practically no one gets a full 3.5g / day. Raw Potassium is extremely reactive, so I use potassium gluconate, C6H11KO7.

Chloride(3.4g): Chloride is a negative ion, formed when Chlorine gets an extra electron. It's used in metabolism and overall pH balance.

Fiber(5g): Fiber is not digested by the body. It helps maintain a healthy digestive system. My digestive system is quite healthy as the only thing that it has to get rid of is the fiber itself.

Calcium(1g): Strong bones and teeth! Also used in muscle operation and the electrical system of the heart. Very important. I consume Calcium Carbonate, CaCO3

Iron(18mg): Iron is used by Hemoglobin in the blood to efficiently transport oxygen. Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutritional deficiencies. If you are a vegetarian I recommend taking a supplement. I dissolve iron chellate in fat separately before adding it to the mixture.

Phosphorous(1g): Part of the structural framework for DNA and RNA. I use monosodium phosphate.

Iodine(150ug): Constituent of Thyroid Hormones, which regulate basic metabolic rate through gene transcription.

Magnesium(400mg): Another ion, used by many enzymes to catalyze reactions. Be careful, magnesium overdose is very unpleasant.

Zinc(15mg): Used by enzymes in transcription factors, which control the expression of select genes.

Selenium(70ug): Used in some amino acids and the Thyroid gland. Careful, can be toxic in large doses.

Copper(2mg): Used in electron and oxygen transport.

Manganese(2mg): Similar to selenium, used as a cofactor in many enzymes.

Chromium(120ug): Occurs in trace amounts in many foods. Though no certain biological role has been found, there have been reports of chromium deficiency. Just being safe here, may be fine without it, though.

Molybdenum(75ug): Used in the active site of many enzymes. Interesting fact: a shortage of molybdenum held back eukaryote evolution for 2 billion years. Make sure you get your molybdenum, and continue evolving.

Vitamin A(5000IU): Used by the retina of the eye to produce a metabolite necessary for both low-light and color sensitivity.

Vitamin B6(2mg): Or, pyrodoxil phosphate, is a coenzyme for many reactions and macronutrient metabolism.

Vitamin B12(6ug): Key to the normal functioning of the brain and nervous system. Like iron, difficult to obtain from plants so a supplement is suggested for vegetarians.

Vitamin C(60mg): Or, ascorbate, is a reducing agent in many enzymatic and some non-enzymatic reactions. Don't want to get scurvy.

Vitamin D(400IU): Needed for the internal absorption of calcium and phosphate. Can be synthesized by the body from cholesterol given enough sunlight, but is essential in most people.

Vitamin E(30IU): Several functions including antioxidation, gene expression, and neurological function.

Vitamin K(80ug): Post-translational modification. Once a protein is transcribed, it folds (which is a very important problem we don't understand well) and modified by factors such as Vitamin K which affect its final utility.

Thiamin(1.5mg): Used in thyamine pyrophosphate, a coenyzme in the catabolism of sugars.

Riboflavin(1.7mg): Required by a class of proteins called 'flavoproteins'. It's used in the cofactors (non-protein substances that bind to proteins) FAD and FMN.

Niacin(20mg): Niacin binds to and stimulates a certain membrane receptor, GPR109A, which inhibits fat breakdown in adipose (stored fat) tissue. This decreases the amount of free fatty acids in your blood.

Folate(400ug): Folate itself is not used by the body, but its derivative tetrahydrofolate, and a few others, are used in DNA synthesis and repair.

Biotin(300ug): Another coenzyme, used in the synthesis of a few macronutrients.

Panthothenic Acid(10mg): Used to synthesize coenyzme-A (which itself is used in the synthesis and oxidization of fatty acids), as well as metabolism.

Biodiversity from Polyculture Outperforms Industrial Farming Chemicals

With the increasing population recently breaching the 7 billion mark, and no sign of slowing, you may have heard some UN-supported scientists claim that certain foods will need to double production to keep up with rising demand.--This - along with massive support from Big Agri for GMOs and factory farming - seem to indicate that further industrialization of the food industry is all that can save the world from starvation. Not exactly.---While major food production and research companies are pouring millions into advancing their biotech methods, resistance in the forms of support for biodiversity, permaculture and other sustainable methods is growing.----
Do we really need industrial agriculture to feed the world?---A study by the University of California, Berkeley, presented exhaustive alternatives to current practices. One section of the paper cited research pointing to the positive effects of biodiversity on the numbers of herbivore pests, finding that polycultural planting led to reduction of pest populations by up to 64%. Later, combined results of hundreds of comparisons also favored biologically diverse farms with a 54% increase in pest mortality and damage to crops dropping by almost 25%. The introduction of more diverse insects also promoted increased pollination and healthier crops.(source ecology and society)---- A 9-year study conducted by researchers from the USDA, University of Minnesota and Iowa State University proved that in more complex systems, yield  and were both enhanced. When paired against the conventional corn/soy rotation, less fertilizer was used. This difference actually increased over the course of the study, indicating the quality of the soil was improving over time, instead of experiencing the depletion of common practices. Union of Concerned Scientists sourced data.--- So the USDA knows this eye-opening evidence, yet it continues to give tens of billions in subsidies to keep current industry- Soil management is a key long-term investment for farmers, many of whom are not presented with viable alternatives to the current practice by the tightly controlled agriculture landscape. Biodiverse practices have been shown repeatedly to not only balance soil nutrition, but lead to a healthier array of forage choices for livestock, more nutrition and a more long-term, sustainable balance with local ecosystems.- A diversified farming system has been defined as "A system of agricultural production that, through a range of practice, incorporates agrobiodiversity across multiple spatial and/or temporal scales." Basically, that breaks down to growing different things, in different areas, at different times.- Does that practice seem familiar? Maybe it’s how nature was meant to be managed but not manipulated or modified. And only by returning to the concepts provided to us by nature, will we to recreate the same sustainable environs that we were responsible for destroying in the first place. Marsden researchers said in their groundbreaking paper, that "there has been an interest in reintegrating crop and livestock systems as a strategy for reducing reliance on fossil fuels, minimizing the use of increasingly expensive fertilizers, and limiting water pollution by nutrients, pathogens, and antibiotics. Karen Perry Stillerman of the Union of Concerned Scientists put it perfectly It's important to remember who has that interest....and who doesn't --

Bitter Melon Juice Prevents Pancreatic Cancer in Mouse Models

Mar. 12, 2013 — A University of Colorado Cancer study published this week in the journal Carcinogenesis shows that bitter melon juice restricts the ability of pancreatic cancer cells to metabolize glucose, thus cutting the cells' energy source and eventually killing them.---"Three years ago researchers showed the effect of bitter melon extract on breast cancer cells only in a Petri dish. This study goes much, much farther. We used the juice -- people especially in Asian countries are already consuming it in quantity. We show that it affects the glucose metabolism pathway to restrict energy and kill pancreatic cancer cells," says Rajesh Agarwal, PhD, co-program leader of Cancer Prevention and Control at the CU Cancer Center and professor at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.---Agarwal's interest came from connecting the dots of existing research in a novel way. Diabetes tends to presage pancreatic cancer and bitter melon has been shown to effect type-II diabetes, and has been used for centuries against diabetes in the folk medicines of China and India. Following this line of thinking, Agarwal and colleagues wondered what would happen if they closed out the middle man of diabetes and directly explored the link between bitter melon and pancreatic cancer.---The result, Agarwal says, is, "Alteration in metabolic events in pancreatic cancer cells and an activation of the AMP-activated protein kinase, an enzyme that indicates low energy levels in the cells."---Perhaps not coincidentally, bitter melon also regulates insulin secretion by pancreatic beta cells. After studies in cell cultures, the group showed that mouse models of pancreatic cancer that were fed bitter melon juice were 60 percent less likely to develop the disease than controls.----"It's a very exciting finding," Agarwal says. "Many researchers are engineering new drugs to target cancer cells' ability to supply themselves with energy, and here we have a naturally-occurring compound that may do just that."---The Agarwal Lab is now applying for grants that will allow them to move the study of bitter melon into further chemoprevention trials in mouse models of pancreatic cancer.---Story Source-The above story is reprinted from materials provided by University of Colorado Denver. The original article was written by Garth Sundem. --Journal Reference-M. Kaur, G. Deep, A. K. Jain, K. Raina, C. Agarwal, M. Wempe, R. Agarwal. Massive Mosquitoes 20x Normal Size Coming to US

Super-sized aggressive mosquitoes with a ‘stabbing’ bite are set to be unleashed across Florida this summer, bringing misery for thousands of residents.---In what could have come from a B-list Hollywood film script, the floodwater mosquito is nearly 20 times its normal-sized cousins, can strike either day or night, its eggs can lie dormant for years[U1]  – and the mosquito might even be tolerant to repellants. And it’s all thanks to recent storms flooding coastal areas of the sunshine state, which paved the way for the mega-sized biters to call Florida their home. Just when you thought genetically modified mosquitoes were the worst we had to face.--The real threat of a surge in the large insects known as gallinippers came off the back of last summer’s Tropical Storm Debbie, a storm responsible for flooding in many parts of Florida and unleashing the gallinippers. The gallinipper lays eggs in soil close to ponds, streams and other water bodies that overflow when heavy rains come. The eggs can remain dry and dormant for years, until high waters cause them to hatch.-And it’s that scenario which has led to entomologists issuing alerts to local residents on the best ways to avoid getting painful bites this summer amid concerns that bumper squadrons of the gallinippers could strike again.--On their presence this summer, Phil Kaufman, University of Florida entomologist, said: “I wouldn’t be surprised, given the numbers we saw last year. When we hit the rainy cycle we may see that again.”--The species known as Psorophora ciliata is native to the eastern half of North America, has a body about half an inch long, with a black-and-white color pattern. And its females, the blood suckers, are very aggressive and carry that frightening bite.--“The bite really hurts, I can attest to that,” Kaufman, an associate professor with UF’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS).---To help quell the threat, residents Kaufman and entomology graduate student Ephraim Ragasa have created a document on gallinippers for the department’s “Featured Creatures” website. Kaufman says gallinippers can be warded off with DEET-backed repellents but due to their large size they may be more tolerant of the compound than smaller mosquitoes. DEET is also known to present quite a few dangers to environmental and biological health overall. Scientists have even called it a ‘toxic stew’.---Chemical-free precautions include wearing long pants and long-sleeved shirts when venturing into wooded areas, especially places where standing water collects after rain storms.---As the gallinipper has an enormous appetite at the larvae stage by chomping on other mosquito larvae, there were thoughts that they could be used to reduce populations of other pest mosquitoes. But Ragasa added that there was a fatal flaw in that thinking, it just results in more gallinippers: “That kind of defeats the purpose of using them for biocontrol[U2] .”

Voices From the Gulf-- Do Not Eat Our Food

Activist Post

Nobody, can validate the safety of the seafood in the Gulf. As a result, not only are the 40 million people in the Gulf at risk, the safety of our seafood is at risk as well. And when one adds the Fukushima disaster on top of the Gulf oil spill, I cannot think of one reason why any reasonable person would eat seafood in today’s toxic global environment.---or any other---for different reasons but the food supply has been sabotaged

The Government Will Not Protect You-----The measures that the government is taking to ensure Gulf food safety would be doubtful at best, if it were not for the growing number of victims resulting from the BP event coupled with the impotent governmental response.---The current method for detecting oil and Corexit contamination in Gulf seafood is a simple sniff test, in which FDA inspectors hold a bag of fish up to their nose and if the inspector does not detect any “strange odors, the fish passes the food safety inspection test and is eligible to be processed and subsequently sold to the public. The FDA says smell tests are the only way to detect chemical dispersants, as scientists have yet to develop an effective tissue test[U3] . The sniff test doesn’t satisfy food industry workers and the obvious lack of scientific rigor is a de facto admission that the government cannot protect you.--Similar warnings regarding the region’s food safety are appearing up and down the local Gulf Coast media on such stations as WLOX TV in Gulfport, MS. Yet, Fox, CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC, etc., have not run one credible story on the dangers of food toxicity in the Gulf’s food chain. Anyone would be correct in assuming that a tightly interwoven, interlocking and overlapping corporate leadership as well as a multitude of common business interests exists between the national media, the oil companies and their Wall Street investors. And in this paradigm, the safety of the food consuming public does not matter.

Voices of Science----Harriet Perry, a research biologist with
the University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Research Laboratory and Bob Thomas, a biologist at Loyola University in New Orleans have independently discovered that the crab larvae has been infected with both oil and the toxic dispersant, Corexit. These independent discoveries are an ominous sign that the Gulf’s vast food web has been seriously impacted thus imperiling food safety “for years to come.” Thomas further stated that oil and dispersant toxicity has reached the level of where it is “moving up the food chain as opposed to just hanging out in the water.” Thomas further concluded that “something likely will eat those oiled larvae … and then that animal will be eaten by something bigger and so on.”----Scientists at The University of Southern Mississippi and Tulane University have echoed Thomas and Perry’s findings which found oil in the post-larvae of blue crabs entering coastal marshes along the Gulf Coast signaling that oil is entering estuarine food chains. Dr. Perry observed that “I have never seen anything like this.”

Scientists at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab shows oil from the Deepwater Horizon disaster has made its way into the Gulf food chain as well. These particular scientists have found signs of an oil-and-dispersant mix under the shells of tiny blue crab larvae in the Gulf of Mexico which is a clear indication that the unprecedented use of dispersants in the BP oil spill has broken up the oil into toxic droplets so tiny that they have easily entered the food chain.---In the first peer-reviewed challenge to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA’s) safe levels for cancer-causing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), a new study says they were overestimated in Gulf seafood following the BP oil spill by up to 10,000 times.---Published in the journal Environmental Health Perspective, the study by authors Miriam Rotkin-Ellman and Gina Solomon — both from the National Resources Defense Council — offers evidence that FDA is tolerating too much contamination and is failing to identify risks for pregnant women and children.---“Instead of saying it was safe for everyone to eat, pregnant women and children should have been warned and advised to reduce their Gulf shellfish consumption,” Ellman says.---And now it is likely that 100% of the shrimp in the Gulf are tainted.

Corexit Is the Main Culprit------It is mind boggling that Corexit 9500 and Corexit 9527 would be used in cleaning up the largest environmental danger in the history of the United States. According to the EPA, both forms of Corexit are the most ineffective available agents in treating oil spills and, simultaneously, both Corexit agents also pose the most toxic risk to various aquatic life forms[U4] . My fellow Republic Broadcasting Network colleague, Darren Weeks, found evidence from the EPA files that Corexit has the highest toxicity to Menindia fish of all 18 EPA tested dispersants. Just a very small amount of Corexit 9500 is required to kill 50% of fish within four days[U5] . --When compared to another EPA approved dispersant, Nokomis 3-F4, Corexit 9500 is 38 times more poisonous to Menindia fish and 17 times more deadly to shrimp. Why not just use Nokomis 3-F4? The answer is simple, Goldman Sachs does not have any financial interests in Nokomis 3-F4. NALCO, the manufacturer of Corexit, was a subsidiary of Goldman Sachs. Also, Goldman Sachs’ and Halliburton’s complicity in the oil spill figures prominently in this investigation and will be detailed in later parts of this series.----The most pronounced manifestation of these scientific accounts comes in the form of dolphins beaching themselves in several locations in the Gulf. In the Gulf, the dolphins are at the top of the food chain and what happens to these mammals will and is most assuredly happening to human beings. It is clear that the toxins have completed their trek up the food chain and the threat is just becoming realized.

The Gulf Crisis Will Never End--- August 17, 2011. What was not reported were the additional 13 oil sheens spotted off the coast of Louisiana. This development has profound implications leaving scientists to wonder if the crisis will ever end. And, of course, BP quickly denied responsibility. And as of December 13, 2012, the Gulf is still leaking oil, which has profound implications for the long-term safety of the water, food and air.---The holocaust in the Gulf has grown to such proportions that the European Union Times reports that an extremely grave report was prepared for President Medvedev by Russia’s Ministry of Natural Resources in which the report warns that the BP spill will become the worst environmental catastrophe in all of human history and will bring total destruction to the Eastern half of the North American continent.---The Russian report proved prophetic. Oil and Corexit, even when combined, are a liquid base and as a result are subject to the normal hydrological cycle of evaporation and becoming a part of the rain cycle. As early as the 1970s, scientists referred to this process, when it involved pollutants, as toxic rain. And as the Russian report predicted, there are multiple reports of toxic rain, related to the Gulf disaster as far as away Memphis, TN. WREG TV in Memphis reported that local farmers are alarmed at the toxic substances (i.e., Corexit) raining down upon and destroying the local crop base. And while we are speaking about Corexit and oil based toxic rain, wouldn’t this toxic rain be present in the farms and be negatively impacting the grass that cows and other farm animals consume? Don’t cows eat grass which is being laced with this poisonous toxicity? Common Sense would seem to dictate that the beef and dairy grown in the region is tainted and these dangers are being visited upon the rest of the country?--Who Is Watching the Watchers?

It Will Never Be Over-----These events make one wonder who is watching out for the welfare of the American consumer? A better question would be who, if anybody is watching the watchers? What did Barack Obama and then-EPA chief, Lisa Jackson do? Or, more importantly, what did they not do to safeguard the public from obvious contamination of our food supplies resulting in large part from the reckless disbursement of Corexit? With the entire region’s food supply at risk, along with the collective health of 40 million Americans, the straightforward answer is that they did nothing[U6] .
Conclusion---Everyone has to make their own choices regarding what they eat and what they consider safe. For myself, the data is strongly suggestive of the fact that one should not be eating any seafood from the Gulf. -A careful review of the evidence makes it very likely that this event in the Gulf was premeditated. Who is responsible along with their goals is the subject of Part Five of what has become known as the Great Gulf Coast Holocaust.

Sustainable Fertilizer: Urine And Wood Ash Produce Large Harvest

Human urine and wood ash appear to make a potent, inexpensive fertilizer combination for boosting the productivity of food crops, scientists say.

Sep. 17, 2009 — Results of the first study evaluating the use of human urine mixed with wood ash as a fertilizer for food crops has found that the combination can be substituted for costly synthetic fertilizers to produce bumper crops of tomatoes without introducing any risk of disease for consumers. ---In the study, Surendra Pradhan and colleagues point out that urine, a good source of nitrogen, has been successfully used to fertilize cucumber, corn, cabbage, and other crops. Only a few studies, however, have investigated the use of wood ash, which is rich in minerals and also reduces the acidity of certain soils. Scientists have not reported on the combinaton of urine and wood ash, they say.---The new study found that plants fertilized with urine produced four times more tomatoes than nonfertilized plants and as much as plants given synthetic fertilizer. Urine plus wood ash produced almost as great a yield, with the added benefit of reducing the acidity of acid soils. "The results suggest that urine with or without wood ash can be used as a substitute for mineral fertilizer to increase the yields of tomato without posing any microbial or chemical risks," the report says.---Story Source-The above story is reprinted from materials provided by American Chemical Society, via EurekAlert!, a service of AAAS. --Journal Reference-Pradhan et al. TOP C

[U1]Sounds like a Genetically engineered lif form has made it’s way into the food chain

[U2]Hybrization and the use of interspecies with out an antagonist would be an issue

[U3]Really incredible here eh!! sceintific!!!  A measure of accuracy none have ever seen---amazing---now we all can feel better on the efficasy of this test

[U4]Doesn’t this make you wonder and go hmm who’s brain child is this---I mean the information is there on the lethality of these chemicals and what they pose for creation and yet the ones who delegate further the destruction and demise of culture both above land and below in te oceans---those who are in charge---should be made to restore the damage to what they have destroyed

[U5]Now what happens when people eat this –say in the islands—or in central America ---or mexico---or even southwestern usa---and what about exports of these contaminated sea life???

[U6]Well this is not accurate---40 million Americans—and how many central and south Americans---seems like this was specifically targeting a area ---a poor area---or an area where there maybe something to gain more financially then what is being exposed—either way the oil or resource there has been bought with blood
