More than a dozen forest fires are raging in northern Quebec, including one just four kilometres northeast of the Cree community of Eastmain. Quebec's forest fire protection agency, la Societe de protection des forets contre le feu (SOPFEU), said the fire had spread over 257,000 hectares when last surveyed, although today it is likely closer to 300,000 hectares. "The winds at the moment are in the community's favour," said Melanie Morin, a spokeswoman for SOPFEU. "The winds are blowing away from the community and heading eastward." The Cree Board of Health and Social Services issued a news alert Thursday afternoon, saying preventive controlled-burning is protecting the village of Eastmain, and the hydro line is operational. Goldcorp shut down its eleonore mining project in the region, as prevailing winds pushed the fire - still about 100 kilometres away - in the direction of the mine site. The head of civil protection for Abitibi-Temiscamingue and Northern Quebec, Jacques Viger, said about 800 employees were ordered to leave the mine site. He said non-essential Hydro-Quebec crews have also been pulled off their work sites, and a rest stop at Kilometre 321 of the James Bay road between Radisson and Matagami has also been closed. "There are a lot of people evacuated either to Radisson or to Val d'Or," said Viger.

Late last week, some 275 elderly and infirm people, as well as those with respiratory problems, were evacuated from
Eastmain and are already in Val d'Or. Viger said between 400 and 500 people remain in the Cree community, with no passable road out due to smoke from the fire. "If the wind changes direction we may have to evacuate Cree villages in the territory,[F1] " Viger said. "We are starting to put in place a Plan B, to transport people by plane, as we can still get into all the communities by plane." For a second straight day, damage to major transmission lines from the fires caused widespread blackouts elsewhere in Quebec. Half a million Hydro-Quebec customers were without power at the peak of Thursday's outages, which began at around 5 p.m. Hydro-Quebec said most had their power restored by 7 p.m., and the utility had the three transmission lines affected up and running again by 7:30 p.m. On Wednesday, damage to the hydro line caused a major power failure that affected metro service in Montreal and cut off power at LaRonde, the amusement park on Ile Ste-Helene.

"A major line, a major transmission line far up north basically went off line," Hydro-Quebec's chief executive officer, Thierry Vandal, explained early Thursday. "That has a cascading affect on a number of lines." La Societe de developpement de la Baie-James, the agency in charge of roads in that part of the province, yesterday closed a large portion of the James Bay highway because of the fire, as well as side roads. A second major fire is burning 40 kilometres east of Nemiscau, another Cree community southeast of
Eastmain.[F2]  Morin said that fire, covering some 25,000 hectares when last surveyed, is so far not affecting the community because the prevailing winds are away from the village. SOPFEU has posted an extreme danger alert for several regions of the province - essentially everything north of the 49th parallel. "Contrary to the southern portion of the province, where we have lots of humidity and rain on and off throughout most of the summer, the nordic portion of the province has had very little rain and is very dry,[F3] " Morin said. "The fire index is at 'extreme,' which means the tiniest spark could set off a major forest fire." There is a ban on all open-air fires in the affected regions.

Recently, isolation and investigation of novel ingredients with biological activities and health benefit effects from natural resources have attracted a great deal of attention. The fruit of Lycium barbarum L[F4] ., a well-known Chinese herbal medicine as well as valuable nourishing tonic, has been used historically as antipyretic, anti-inflammation and anti-senile agent for thousands of years. Modern pharmacological experiments have proved that polysaccharide is one of the major ingredients responsible for those biological activities in L. barbarum. It has been demonstrated that L. barbarum polysaccharides had various important biological activities, such as antioxidant, immunomodulation, antitumor, neuroprotection, radioprotection, anti-diabetes, hepatoprotection, anti-osteoporosis and antifatigue. Recipe—take 1 ½ cup of wine add to it 1 cup of Goji berry and then add equal portions of distilled water and put into pressure cooker and allow to pressure cook for 1.5 hours---shut off cooker and allow the pressure to reduce so you can open the lid—strain through a sheet or handkerchief---pour into bottle and leave about 2 inches from the top ---add 2 oz of vodka to it to preserve---shake it well date and store---use ½ oz 2-3 times a day or more as needed

Take the left over goji berry and add to a blender  add  honey til you cover the berry---then place lid on and blend for about 5-7 minutes til there is a fusion---when done shut of blender and pour into glass now you have the properties of the wine and berry in the honey and can be used regularly as well


New US-UK Study Shocks World! “Conspiracy Theorists” Are ‘Sane’; Government Dupes Crazy & Hostile!

 A newly released study by psychologists and social scientists in both the United States and the UK is bound to ‘shock the world’, for it has found that those who believe in ‘conspiracy theories’ are considered ‘more sane’ than those who believe in the ‘official versions’ of the ‘contested events’. For those who are awake, this is simply not shocking in the least bit, in fact, it is quite common knowledge. For Americans who still believe the ‘accepted versions’ of stated events, it’s quite possible that they will continue to stay ‘insane’, and hostile! In fact, those now believing the ‘conspiracy theory’ version of events now outnumber those believing the ‘statist propaganda’ TWO TO ONE! Americans are quickly awakening to hidden truths; is it too late? This fact sure would explain why TPTB are so eager to crackdown on Americans. Recent studies by psychologists and social scientists in the US and UK suggest that contrary to mainstream media stereotypes, those labeled “conspiracy theorists” appear to be saner than those who accept the official versions of contested events.---The most recent study was published on July 8th by psychologists Michael J. Wood and Karen M. Douglas of the University of Kent (UK). Entitled “What about Building 7? A social psychological study of online discussion of 9/11 conspiracy theories,” the study compared “conspiracist” (pro-conspiracy theory) and “conventionalist” (anti-conspiracy) comments at news websites

The authors were surprised to discover that it is now more conventional to leave so-called conspiracist comments than conventionalist ones: “Of the 2174 comments collected, 1459 were coded as conspiracist and 715 as conventionalist.” In other words, among people who comment on news articles, those who disbelieve government accounts of such events as 9/11 and the JFK assassination outnumber believers by more than two to one. That means it is the pro-conspiracy commenters who are expressing what is now the conventional wisdom, while the anti-conspiracy commenters are becoming a small, beleaguered minority

 So, why are folks like belligerent or so incredibly hostile? More from the study below…

Perhaps because their supposedly mainstream views no longer represent the majority, the anti-conspiracy commenters often displayed anger and hostility: “The research… showed that people who favoured the official account of 9/11 were generally more hostile when trying to persuade their rivals.” ----Additionally, it turned out that the anti-conspiracy people were not only hostile, but fanatically attached to their own conspiracy theories as well. According to them, their own theory of 9/11 – a conspiracy theory holding that 19 Arabs, none of whom could fly planes with any proficiency, pulled off the crime of the century under the direction of a guy on dialysis in a cave in Afghanistan – was indisputably true. The so-called conspiracists, on the other hand, did not pretend to have a theory that completely explained the events of 9/11: “For people who think 9/11 was a government conspiracy, the focus is not on promoting a specific rival theory, but in trying to debunk the official account.” ---- But now, thanks to the internet, people who doubt official stories are no longer excluded from public conversation; the CIA’s 44-year-old campaign to stifle debate using the “conspiracy theory” smear is nearly worn-out. In academic studies, as in comments on news articles, pro-conspiracy voices are now more numerous – and more rational – than anti-conspiracy ones.  No wonder the anti-conspiracy people are sounding more and more like a bunch of hostile, paranoid cranks. 


Link Between Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Increased Prostate Cancer Risk Confirmed

July 10, 2013 — A second large, prospective study by scientists at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center has confirmed the link between high blood concentrations of omega-3 fatty acids and an increased risk of prostate cancer.--Published July 11 in the online edition of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, the latest findings indicate that high concentrations of EPA, DPA and DHA -- the three anti-inflammatory and metabolically related fatty acids derived from fatty fish and fish-oil supplements -- are associated with a 71 percent increased risk of high-grade prostate cancer. The study also found a 44 percent increase in the risk of low-grade prostate cancer and an overall 43 percent increase in risk for all prostate cancers.---The increase in risk for high-grade prostate cancer is important because those tumors are more likely to be fatal.--The findings confirm a 2011 study published by the same Fred Hutch scientific team that reported a similar link between high blood concentrations of DHA and a more than doubling of the risk for developing high-grade prostate cancer. The latest study also confirms results from a large European study.--"The consistency of these findings suggests that these fatty acids are involved in prostate tumorigenesis and recommendations to increase long-chain omega-3 fatty acid intake, in particular through supplementation, should consider its potential risks," the authors wrote.---"We've shown once again that use of fish supplements may be harmful,[F5] " said Alan Kristal, Dr.P.H., the paper's senior author and member of the Fred Hutch Public Health Sciences Division. Kristal also noted a recent analysis published in the Journal of the American Medical Association that questioned the benefit of omega-3 supplementation for cardiovascular diseases. The analysis, which combined the data from 20 studies, found no reduction in all-cause mortality, heart attacks or strokes.--"What's important is that we have been able to replicate our findings from 2011 and we have confirmed that marine omega-3 fatty acids play a role in prostate cancer occurrence," said corresponding author Theodore Brasky, Ph.D., a research assistant professor at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center who was a postdoctoral trainee at Fred Hutch when the research was conducted. "It's important to note, however, that these results do not address the question of whether omega-3's play a detrimental role in prostate cancer prognosis," he said.--Kristal said the findings in both Fred Hutch studies were surprising because omega-3 fatty acids are believed to have a host of positive health effects based on their anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation plays a role in the development and growth of many cancers.---It is unclear from this study why high levels of omega-3 fatty acids would increase prostate cancer risk, according to the authors, however the replication of this finding in two large studies indicates the need for further research into possible mechanisms. One potentially harmful effect of omega-3 fatty acids is their conversion into compounds that can cause damage to cells and DNA, and their role in immunosuppression. Whether these effects impact cancer risk is not known.---The difference in blood concentrations of omega-3 fatty acids between the lowest and highest risk groups was about 2.5 percentage points (3.2 percent vs. 5.7 percent), which is somewhat larger than the effect of eating salmon twice a week, Kristal said. The current study analyzed data and specimens collected from men who participated in the Selenium and Vitamin E Cancer Prevention Trial (SELECT), a large randomized, placebo-controlled trial to test whether selenium and vitamin E, either alone or combined, reduced prostate cancer risk. That study showed no benefit from selenium intake and an increase in prostate cancers in men who took vitamin E.---The group included in the this analysis consisted of 834 men who had been diagnosed with incident, primary prostate cancers (156 were high-grade cancer) along with a comparison group of 1,393 men selected randomly from the 35,500 participants in SELECT. Intestinal Bacteria Linked to White Blood Cell Cancer

July 16, 2013 — Researchers from UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (JCCC) have discovered that specific types of bacteria that live in the gut are major contributors to lymphoma, a cancer of the white blood cells that are part of the human immune system. The study, led by Robert Schiestl, member of the JCCC and professor of pathology and laboratory medicine, environmental health sciences, and radiation oncology, was published online  recently in the journal Cancer Research.--In rodents, intestinal bacteria influence obesity, intestinal inflammation, and certain types of epithelial cancers. Those cancers affect the coverings of the stomach, liver or colon. However, little is known about the identity of the bacterial species that promote the growth of or protect the body from cancer, or about their effect on lymphoma.--Up to 1,000 different species of bacteria (intestinal microbiota) live in the human gut. Intestinal microbiota number 100 trillion cells; over 90% of the cells in the body are bacteria. The composition of each person's microbiome -- the body's bacterial make-up -- is very different, due to the original childhood source of bacteria, and the effects of diet and lifestyle.--Schiestl's group wanted to determine whether differences in peoples' microbiomes affect their risk for lymphoma, and whether changing the bacteria can reduce this risk. They studied mice with ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T), a genetic disease that in humans and mice is associated with a high rate of B-cell lymphoma. They discovered that, of mice with A-T, those with certain microbial species lived much longer than those with other bacteria before developing lymphoma, and had less of the gene damage (genotoxicity) that causes lymphoma.---"This study is the first to show a relationship between intestinal microbiota and the onset of lymphoma," Schiestl said. NUS Researchers Developed World's First Water Treatment Techniques Using Apple And Tomato Peels

One of the most crucial problems affecting the world today is the scarcity of potable water. In a bid to make clean water available at low cost, Mr Ramakrishna Mallampati, a PhD candidate at the National University of Singapore (NUS), experimented with water treatment techniques using materials that are easily available, and came up with novel ways to purify water using the peels of apples and tomatoes. This is the first time that the peels of the two fruits have been used to remove different types of pollutants in water.----The studies were conducted under the guidance of Associate Professor Suresh Valiyaveettil of the Department of Chemistry at the NUS Faculty of Science. The NUS team hopes that their water purification methods can benefit communities living in places where there is little electricity or resources to set up a water purification plant.

Scarcity of clean water-----The scarcity of clean water is expected to worsen in the future due to over usage, lack of conservation methods and dwindling natural supply of clean water, even in countries with significant water resources.[F1] --Many hazardous pollutants enter the water supply through many channels, including waste disposal, industry effluent release or rain water drainage. Such pollutants need to be removed before the water can be consumed. However, most water purification technologies are not accessible to economically disadvantaged people around the world.---The challenge for scientists is to develop robust water purification methods that could carry out water treatment at low cost, with minimal energy consumption and using less chemicals in the process so as to reduce negative impact on the environment.

Tomato peel: an efficient adsorbent for water purification---Tomato is the second most consumed vegetable in the world, with approximately 30 per cent consumed as processed products. The disposal of the tomato skin and its other fibrous materials is an economic waste for many food processing industries.---Mr Ramakrishna evaluated the effectiveness of tomato peel as an adsorbent by using different pollutants. He also studied the structure of the tomato peels to assess their efficiency as biomaterials to remove toxic metal ions and organic pollutants from water. In addition, factors such as the pH, nature and amount of adsorbent used for extraction were considered to establish the optimum conditions under which tomato peel could remove various pollutants from water.---His study revealed that tomato peels can effectively remove different contaminants in water, including dissolved organic and inorganic chemicals, dyes and pesticides, and they can also be used in large scale applications. The results were published in the Royal Society of Chemistry journal RSC Advances in September 2012.

Apple peel: a biomass for water purification---In addition to tomato peels, Mr Ramakrishna also explored the viability of using the peels of apples for water purification, as apple peels are easily available as biowaste from food processing industries and they are biodegradable.---Similar to tomato peels, apple peels can also remove a range of dissolved water pollutants through the adsorption process. In order to enhance the ability of apple peels towards extraction of negatively charged pollutants, Mr Ramakrishna immobilised naturally occurring zirconium oxides onto the surface of apple peels. Zirconium loaded apple peels were found to be able to extract anions such as phosphate, arsenate, arsenite, and chromate ions from aqueous solutions. This method of water purification can also be used for large scale applications.--The findings are published in the American Chemical Society journal ASC Applied Materials & Interfaces in May 2013.

Research findings to benefit communities living in remote villages

Both Mr Ramakrishna and Assoc Prof Suresh hope that the findings on the use apple and tomato peels for water purification can be applied to benefit economically and technologically disadvantaged farmers living in remote villages, who depend on contaminated ground water or local rivers for their daily water needs. They intend to work with non-governmental organisations to transfer their research findings and knowledge to benefit the people.---Mr Ramakrishna and other students in Assoc Prof Suresh's research group are now looking into the use of other fruit peels and natural fibers for water purification.


Limonoids and their anti-proliferative and anti-aromatase properties in human breast cancer cells.

Lemons are a widely used citrus crop and have shown several potential health benefits. In the present study, the mechanism and effectiveness of the anti-cancer and anti-aromatase properties of limonoids were investigated for the first time. Defatted lemon (Citrus lemon L. Burm) seed powder was extracted with ethyl acetate (EtOAc) and methanol (MeOH) for 16 h each, successively. These extracts were fractionated using 1D (silica) and 2D (ion exchange and SP-70 columns) column chromatography to obtain nine limonoids. The compounds were identified by TLC, HPLC, and LC-MS techniques. A panel of 9 purified limonoids, including limonin, nomilin, obacunone, limonexic acid (LNA), isolimonexic acid (ILNA), nomilinic acid glucoside (NAG), deacetyl nomilinic acid glucoside (DNAG), limonin glucoside (LG) and obacunone glucoside (OG) as well as 4 modified compounds such as limonin methoxime (LM), limonin oxime (LO), defuran limonin (DL), and defuran nomilin (DN), were screened for their cytotoxicity on estrogen receptor (ER)-positive (MCF-7) or ER-negative (MDA-MB-231) human breast cancer cells. We further tested the mechanism of the anti-proliferative activity of limonoids using an in vitro aromatase enzyme assay and western blot with anti-caspase-7. Among the tested limonoids, 11 limonoids exhibited cytotoxicity on MCF-7 whereas 8 limonoids showed cytotoxicity against the MDA-MB-231 cell lines. Although most of the limonoids showed anti-aromatase activity, the inhibition of proliferation was not related to the anti-aromatase activity. On the other hand, the anti-proliferative activity was significantly correlated with caspase-7 activation by limonoids. Our findings indicated that the citrus limonoids may have potential for the prevention of estrogen-responsive breast cancer (MCF-7) via caspase-7 dependent pathways.--PMID: 23117440 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

George Soros is one of the many New Economists who are promoting community currencies.---t’s time to open our eyes to all Agenda 21 entails: there’s a lot more to it than most activists think. The communitarian ideals of smart growth and sustainable development are but one part of a much bigger movement aiming for global ‘sustainability’ by privatizing the commons. [F3] This is achieved by measuring and pricing what are called ‘ecosystem services’, or the benefits accrued from the earth, and from people. It involves putting monetary values on aspects of nature, and the ‘services’ it provides (such as pollination), as well as pricing the productivity and overall conformity of human beings (see the U.N. plan to increase Global Happiness).---World Bank and the OECD are just two of the globalists which have perfected the ways of pricing nature, and human well-being. The next step is for corporations and governments to incorporate these prices into their financial accounts, as mandated by chapter 8 of Agenda 21. This goes under various names; the term used for the masses is ‘going beyond GDP’, but more formally, the process is known as ‘integrated reporting’. Rather than just add up the usual profits and losses, they have to factor in new kinds of assets and liabilities, i.e. all the positive and negative effects the companies have, upon the earth, and upon people. --Apart from the usual built capital, i.e. goods and infrastructure, that normally make up the accounts of a company, and which are being restricted due to the fear of scarcity, four new types of self-perpetuating capital are now required to be priced, and accounted for. This new system of accountancy has been advanced for many years, and the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) has devised a framework which is to be implemented globally.

Specifically, there are five alternative forms of capital considered in the framework: manufactured capital accounts for machines the organisation uses to produce its goods or services; natural capital such as air, water and land; human capital covering not only people’s skills and experience, but also motivations or rewards to innovate; intellectual capital taking in the intangibles providing competitive advantage; and social capital – defined as the community stakeholders which “enhance individual and collective wellbeing”, which supports the business model. (Source)----The process of ecosystem accounting is generally made up of well-intentioned environmentalists, but led and paid for by trans-national corporations (TNCs), including Monsanto, Syngenta, Novartis, BP, Shell, Alcoa, General Motors, and Coca-Cola. (Source)-It’s unlikely that these corporations would be considered at all ‘sustainable’ by the environmentalists they are funding. Several corporations, such as Bayer, have also partnered with the U.N. to advance the protocol of Agenda 21. ---Since the inception of the protocol, at the Earth Summit in 1992, unsustainable businesses have been busy greening themselves. In the '90s, corporate governance became the hot topic, leading to the promotion of ‘business ethics’, and seeding the idea that corporations ‘care’ about the consequences of their actions[F4] . Small changes were made to how companies were run, so that they could promote themselves as ‘doing the right thing’. All of the top companies now have a team who deal with the image of the firm in terms of its ‘corporate social responsibility’ (CSR). Although the focus has been on carbon-reduction, the social aspect has become increasingly hyped. Being ‘socially responsible’ is said to mean showing consideration for the well-being of all shareholders (i.e. the people you interact with, or all those affected by the operations of a business) and usually manifests as donating to social causes, or getting company employees to do volunteer work for a charity.[F5]  --There has been a concurrent rise in social investment, such that philanthro-capitalism is now mainstream. The City of London Corporation promotes itself as conforming to the green and caring new world order in much the same way as the other major players:

The City Corporation has been active in the "Social Action" area for many years. We call this activity "Supporting Society". We already have a proud record of promoting volunteering, [F6] environmental management, philanthropy and other forms of social responsibility such as local recruitment and responsible procurement to City businesses, workers, residents and our own staff.

Commenting on the rise of social investment, Mark Boleat, Policy Chairman at the City of London Corporation, noted there is now a “fast-increasing demand for risk and growth capital”, and recommends applying tax reliefs to social investment. Earlier this year, he said---A recent report by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) found that demand in the social investment market in England could reach £1bn by 2016, five times what it is today…… the demand for capital in the social sector could grow at a rate of 38% per annum.---Since the Fortune 500 gave birth to, and raised, their corporate images to the new green standard, there have been many changes to company law around the world to enforce corporate ‘commitments’ to being carbon-neutral, and socially responsible. There has also been a huge increase in businesses which help both the public and the private sector to achieve these commitments, such that now the ‘sustainability industry’ is booming. Over the years, then, it has become ‘de rigour’ to try to be green.---
The concept of ‘sustainable development’ has taken on many layers of meaning, and has become so normalised, that practitioners who use the term have never even heard of Agenda 21. Town planners laugh in the faces of opponents of the agenda, because they believe strongly in what they do. After all, the science is settled - most of the world has already been ‘delphied’, having been besieged with visioning by the media for many years. Think – ‘icecaps melting’ and ‘cute polar bears’. So most people accept the sustainability agenda without question,
[F7] and need no further ‘nudging’. They are not conscious of steering the agenda themselves, nor of the consequences. ---
Take, for instance, Lisa Duncan, who is a “Chevron Environmental Specialist”, and has become a volunteer with United Way’s Earn It! Keep It! Save It! free tax preparation program. Lisa says, "The feeling around Chevron is that we live and work in the area and should be part of improving the community….I wanted to help people, and I wanted it to be interesting." (Source)---Another major mistake is to presume that anyone who says they care about the environment, and pays them to work to ‘save the world’ must be genuine. However, the sudden growth of ‘social giving’, and claims of ‘carbon-neutrality’, by the corporatocracy are not mirrored at the grassroots level. More to the point, those funding the eco-social technocratic smart world order are some of the most unsustainable/non-ecofriendly industries you could think of. Their keenness is so ripe, you can just smell their expectation of the profits they would reap.---So, if you’re going to say a word to anyone about Agenda 21, you’ve really got to tell them that, first and foremost, it’s about creating assets from nature and people. It is a system that will increase zoning and smart growth. The plan is so huge, so ambitious, and so nearly ready and it encompasses EVERY vileness of the
New World Order we deplore. --Take drones, for instance. They would be used to spy on people to ensure compliance with the new regime, e.g. gathering evidence of anyone damaging an asset, such as marring a pretty view in an eco-tourist hotspot, or walking on soil in a protected area.----Take smart meters – these will be but one mechanism to enforce allocation of individual energy allowances, in the steady-state system.---Take GMOs and vaccines – they are part of the caring façade of the NWO, as they are already being marketed as ‘socially and environmentally responsible’ –[F8]  the NewSpeak rationale for global law.--Take national sovereignty, political ideology, the ability to choose where and who you want to be – all of these are subsumed by the New Economy, which is a global database of assets and liabilities, comprised of measurements of natural, built and human capital. --The right to give birth, access to water, food, clean air, a home, a gun, and possibly even the right to life all will come under the laws associated with ownership of resources, and the aim of the communitarian steady-state system: R2P - to avoid running out, to protect what they say we have, and to always leave enough for future generations.--Think about the wars being waged – it’s not just central banks and the expansion of development/extraction in the Third World that the elites want. They need EVERY country to abide by the new system, because it can only be said to work if ALL production, and ALL consumption, is tallied and priced, so that quantum computers can claim to run global simulations of the ups and downs of the bio-economy. The idea is that we have to balance consumption with production, on a global scale, to maintain an ecological and psychological equilibrium, using the steady-state economic paradigm. It involves collecting a huge amount of data, on all of us. It is also open to endless abuses from the manipulation of data and statistics, such as by re-defining what constitutes scarcity, abundance, value. For this, the system needs data from all parts of the world. Non-compliance would be deemed akin to eco-terrorism![F9] ----The number of power-brokers playing the game of Global Monopoly is being reduced.---The countries which are not yet following the laws of Agenda 21 need to be made to comply. Iran, Iraq, Russia, China, Egypt, Afghanistan, and Israel have already joined the sustainability-club. Now the elites need to convince North Korea and Syria, and more of the African nations, such as Somalia, to conform. Widespread bombing may no longer be the choice method of control, since this damages profitable natural capital assets. Cyber-war and targeted drone strikes are much cleaner, less damaging to the environment – and this is worth much MUCH more to them than the (unproductive) people they kill.---
The earth is being sold off: incorporated. And so are we. Because part of the plan involves measuring our happiness, which they call well-being, and so the countries which have the fittest, strongest, well-fed, schooled and happy conformists will be the ones who secure higher measures of GDP. This plan to ‘go beyond GDP’ – measuring the worth of the earth, and the people – will lead to the commodification of these new assets, which will then be tradeable, just like carbon. Over time, they come to function as currencies.---
A good starting point to try and wrap your head around some of the basic concepts is a child-friendly guide, published by Peace Child International, the U.N.’s Youth Movement, called ‘Introduction to Sustainable Devleopment’. It describes in simple terms the new economy being shaped by Agenda 21 (including Happiness Economics), and illustrates how lovely it all sounds. ---
Even the oceans are being sold off – or rather, the services they are deemed to provide, such as the profits gained from fishery, and ecotourism.

Besides the Green Economy, investment in the services provided by the oceans is growing. In February, this Blue Economy was given a boost by a new public-private partnership, launched with an investment of $1.5bn by World Bank’s Global Partnership for Oceans at The Economist's World Oceans Summit. The system requires a constant stream of data from sensors like bioMEMS, and satellites, such as the Artificial Intelligence for Ecosystem Services (ARIES) technology. Dietary Fructose Causes Liver Damage in Animal Model, Study Finds

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – June 19, 2013 – The role of dietary fructose in the development of obesity and fatty liver diseases remains controversial, with previous studies indicating that the problems resulted from fructose and a diet too high in calories.--However, a new study conducted in an animal model at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center showed that fructose rapidly caused liver damage even without weight gain. The researchers found that over the six-week study period liver damage more than doubled in the animals fed a high-fructose diet as compared to those in the control group.--The study is published in the June 19 online edition of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.---"Is a calorie a calorie? Are they all created equal? Based on this study, we would say not," said Kylie Kavanagh, D.V.M., assistant professor of pathology-comparative medicine at Wake Forest Baptist and lead author of the study.---In a previous trial which is referenced in the current journal article, Kavanagh's team studied monkeys who were allowed to eat as much as they wanted of low-fat food with added fructose for seven years, as compared to a control group fed a low-fructose, low-fat diet for the same time period. Not surprisingly, the animals allowed to eat as much as they wanted of the high-fructose diet gained 50 percent more weight than the control group. They developed diabetes at three times the rate of the control group and also developed hepatic steatosis, or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.---The big question for the researchers was what caused the liver damage. Was it because the animals got fat from eating too much, or was it something else?--To answer that question, this study was designed to prevent weight gain. Ten middle-aged, normal weight monkeys who had never eaten fructose were divided into two groups based on comparable body shapes and waist circumference. Over six weeks, one group was fed a calorie-controlled diet consisting of 24 percent fructose, while the control group was fed a calorie-controlled diet with only a negligible amount of fructose, approximately 0.5 percent.---Both diets had the same amount of fat, carbohydrate and protein, but the sources were different, Kavanagh said. The high-fructose group's diet was made from flour, butter, pork fat, eggs and fructose (the main ingredient in corn syrup), similar to what many people eat, while the control group's diet was made from healthy complex carbohydrates and soy protein.---Every week the research team weighed both groups and measured their waist circumference, then adjusted the amount of food provided to prevent weight gain. At the end of the study, the researchers measured biomarkers of liver damage through blood samples and examined what type of bacteria was in the intestine through fecal samples and intestinal biopsies.

"What surprised us the most was how quickly the liver was affected and how extensive the damage was, especially without weight gain as a factor," Kavanagh said. "Six weeks in monkeys is roughly equivalent to three months in humans."-In the high-fructose group, the researchers found that the type of intestinal bacteria hadn't changed, but that they were migrating to the liver more rapidly and causing damage there. It appears that something about the high fructose levels was causing the intestines to be less protective than normal, and consequently allowing the bacteria to leak out at a 30 percent higher rate, Kavanagh said.---One of the limitations of the study was that it only tested for fructose and not dextrose. Fructose and dextrose are simple sugars found naturally in plants.---"We studied fructose because it is the most commonly added sugar in the American diet, but based on our study findings, we can't say conclusively that fructose caused the liver damage," Kavanagh said. "What we can say is that high added sugars caused bacteria to exit the intestines, go into the blood stream and damage the liver.--"The liver damage began even in the absence of weight gain. This could have clinical implications because most doctors and scientists have thought that it was the fat in and around tissues in the body that caused the health problems."--The Wake Forest Baptist team plans to begin a new study using the same controls but testing for both fructose and dextrose over a longer time frame.


The Shocking Ingredients In Beer

Why are the ingredients not listed on the label? Which brands can we trust? Which brands are trying to slowly poison us with cheap and harmful ingredients? All of these questions were going through my head at once at lightning speed. So a year ago, research was started to what was really in beer and after questioning several beer companies, reading books about food science, and talking to experts, the information revealed was downright shocking.—it is obvious.---Caring about what you eat doesn’t necessarily translate into caring about what you drink and this is a HUGE MISTAKE.---Alcohol is metabolized by the body differently than all other calories you consume. Alcohol is one of the only substances that you consume that can permeate your digestive system and go straight into your bloodstream. It bypasses normal digestion and is absorbed into the body intact, where it goes straight into the liver.---Your liver is your main fat-burning organ. If you are trying to lose weight or even maintain your ideal weight, drinking alcohol is one of your worst enemies. The liver is going to metabolize alcohol first vs. the fat you want to get rid of – making weight loss even harder. Additionally, one of the primary functions of the liver is to remove environmental toxins from your bodyif it is overtaxed with alcohol, the normal removal of these toxins becomes extremely diminished and can result in rapid aging, loss of libido, and other diseases.--  Beer, especially American beer, is made with all sorts of ingredients beyond the basic hops, malt and yeast. There are numerous other ingredients used to clarify, stabilize, preserve, enhance the color and flavor of beer.--When you drink beer, there is almost a 100% chance that you don’t know what you are drinking (unless you quizzed the beer companies like I did). The ingredients in beer are not required by law to be listed anywhere on the label and manufacturers have no legal obligation to disclose the ingredients. For regular beer, calorie levels and percent alcohol are optional and for light beer calories are mandatory but alcohol levels are optional.--Michele Simon, a public health lawyer, author of Appetite for Profit, and president of Eat Drink Politics told me the reason that beer companies don’t disclose ingredients is simple: they don’t have to.---“Ingredient labeling on food products and non-alcoholic beverages is required by the Food and Drug Administration. But a whole other federal agency regulates beer, and not very well. The Department of Treasury – the same folks who collect your taxes – oversees alcoholic beverages. That probably explains why we know more about what’s in a can of Coke than a can of Bud. You can also thank the alcohol industry, which has lobbied for years against efforts to require ingredient labeling.”---- If the beer companies aren’t required to tell us the exact list of

ingredients then there was a need to investigate this to get to the truth ---

Number 1, to obtain a baseline list of “legal” additives allowed in beer from the book “Chemicals Additives in Beer” by the Center of Science and Public Interest. This list allowed anyone to ask specific questions about each beer being investigated. For example – beer sold here in America can contain several of the following ingredients:

·         Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) –  alcohol is already addictive with some people, Alcohol + MSG direct overload and brain burn out

·         Propylene Glycol (an ingredient found in anti-freeze)

·         Calcium Disodium EDTA (made from formaldehyde, sodium cayanide, and Ethylenediamine)

·         Many different types of sulfites and anti-microbial preservatives (linked to allergies and asthma)

·         Natural Flavors (can come from aborted babies, soy, left over byproducts natural including a beavers anal gland)

·         High Fructose Corn Syrup

·         GMO Sugars – Dextrose, Corn Syrup

·         Caramel Coloring (Class III or IV made from ammonia and classified as a carcinogen)

·         FD&C Blue 1 (Made from petroleum, linked to allergies, asthma and hyperactivity)

·         FD&C Red 40 (Made from petroleum, linked to allergies, asthma and hyperactivity)

·         FD&C Yellow 5 (Made from petroleum, linked to allergies, asthma and hyperactivity)

·         Insect-Based Dyes: carmine derived from cochineal insects to color their beer.

·         Animal Based Clarifiers: Findings include isinglass (dried fish bladder), gelatin (from skin, connective tissue, and bones), and casein (found in milk)

·         Foam Control: Used for head retention; (glyceryl monostearate and pepsin are both potentially derived from animals)

·         BPA (Bisphenol A is a component in many can liners and it may leach into the beer. BPA can mimic the female hormone estrogen and may affect sperm count, and other organ functions.)

·         Carrageenan (linked to inflammation in digestive system, IBS and considered a carcinogen in some circumstances)

During my investigationthere was not a single mainstream beer company to share the full list of ingredients contained in their beer. But there was some disclousre to the use of these ingredients in writing so Here is  this information…

Carcinogenic Caramel Coloring

Newcastle, a UK brand, confessed to using what I would consider one of the most controversial food additives. Toasted barley is usually what gives beer its golden or deep brown color, however in this case, Newcastle beer is also colored artificially with caramel color. This caramel coloring is manufactured by heating ammonia and sulfites under high pressure, which creating carcinogenic compounds. If beer companies were required by law to list the ingredients, Newcastle would likely have to have a cancer warning label under California law because it is a carcinogen proven to cause liver tumors, lung tumors, and thyroid tumors in rats and mice.

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)

Many of the beers I questioned contained one or more possible GMO ingredients.

Most beers brewed commercially are made with more GMO corn than barley. Many of the companies dodged the GMO question – however Miller Coors had a very forthcoming and honest response. They stated “Corn syrup gives beer a milder and lighter-bodied flavor” and “Corn syrups may be derived from a mixture of corn (conventional and biotech.)”, admitting their use of GMOs.

Pabst Blue Ribbon responded saying their corn syrup was “special” and “made of carbohydrates and some simple sugars like dextrose and maltose.  The sugars are fermented into alcohol and CO2, and the carbohydrates, both from the corn syrup and the malt, remain in the beers as flavor, color and body components.”---Dextrose and maltose can come from a variety of substances that are sweet, but likely are derived from GMO corn because it is super cheap for a company to use corn instead of fruit or other non-GMO sources. With cheap beer – you are not just getting a cheap buzz, you are getting the worst of the worst.  Just like with cheap fast food – if you don’t invest in your beer – you will be drinking a lower quality product like Pabst Blue Ribbon that is made from GMO Corn and Corn Syrup.--------In 2007, Greenpeace found unapproved and experimental GMO Rice strain in Anheuser-Busch (Budweiser, Bud Light) beer. Anheuser-Busch responded saying their US-grown long-grained rice “may have micro levels” of a genetically engineered protein called Liberty Link, but added that the protein is “substantially removed or destroyed” during the brewing of beer sold domestically. Don’t you think it’s hard to trust any beer company that gets caught using experimental food made in a laboratory? GMOs have not been tested long term on human beings and one of the main pesticides (Roundup) they spray on GMO crops are linked to inflammation, cancer and other diseases. 

High Fructose Corn Syrup & Fish Bladders

Speaking of trusting companies, let’s get one thing straight, Guinness beer is no longer owned by the Irish, they are now owned by a large beer conglomerate called Diageo and manufactured in over 50 different countries. No matter how many St. Patty’s Day celebrations you’ve had with this dark stout, it’s time to stop because they use high fructose corn syrup in their beer. But, Guinness beer also contains isinglass, a gelatin-like substance produced from the swim bladder of a fish. This ingredient helps remove any “haziness,” solids, or yeast byproducts from the beer. The sneaky thing this beer company does like many of the companies mentioned here today is create an illusion of using the best ingredients when in actuality what they tell you publicly on their websites is a complete farce. On Guinness FAQ’s – they have a question that states: “What are the key ingredients in Guinness” and the answer doesn’t reveal the whole picture – it only states “Our key ingredients – other than inspiration – are roasted, malted barley, hops, yeast and water.”

So What Beers Are Additive and GMO Free?

If you enjoy the occasional beer and wish to maintain your healthy lifestyle, choosing one without GMOs and additives is ideal. Unfortunately, most of the mainstream beers available have additives, but luckily, there are a few that don’t. For example, Sierra Nevada, Heineken, and Amstel Light appear to be pretty clean (but these companies still wouldn’t disclose the full list of ingredients . They did say they use non-GMO grains, no artificial ingredients, stabilizers or preservatives)[F1] .---German Beers are also a good bet. The Germans are very serious about the purity of their beers and enacted a purity law called “Reinheitsgebot” that requires all German beers to be only produced with a core ingredient list of water, hops, yeast, malted barley or wheat. Advocates of German beers insist that they taste cleaner and some even claim they don’t suffer from hangovers as a result.---Another choice to consider is also Certified Organic Beers ( at best questionable). They are required by law to not include GMOs and other harmful additives. Organic beers also support environmental friendly practices and reduce the amount of pesticides and toxins in our air, support Organic farmers – which is a huge plus. [F2] 

Craft & Microbrews Beers – For certain local craft and micro beers, you can ask those companies for a list of ingredients and many of them will be up front with you. However, companies like Miller Coors are slowly closing in on craft beers and buying them up one by one… like they did when they created the unique popular variety called Blue Moon (the beer you drink with an orange) and Anhesuer-Busch did this with Rolling Rock and Goose Island Brewery. Make sure your favorite craft and microbrew is still independently owned and controlled before taking a sip.

In the end – if you decide to drink beer, you are definitely drinking at your own risk for more reasons than just the crazy ingredients that could be in them. The key point to remember is – if you like to drink beer and want to be healthy, drink it infrequently and quiz the beer companies for the truth. Find a beer that you can trust and stick with it.[F3]

1.      What are the ingredients in your beer – all of them from start to finish?

2.      Are any of your ingredients GMO?

3.      Do you use any soy, corn, or rice processing ingredients? (Examples include: dextrose, corn syrup, etc.)

4.      Do you add any natural, artificial flavors or colors to the beer? (Examples include:  yellow #5, caramel coloring, red #40, MSG, natural flavors)

5.      Are there any additional preservatives, stabilizers and/or clarifying agents added to your beer during processing? (Examples include: propylene glycol, Calcium Disodium EDTA, anything ending in “sulfite” like sodium metabisulfite, Heptylparaben, isinglass)

Antiinflammatory compounds in the diet can alleviate excessive inflammation, a factor in the pathogenesis of common diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, atherosclerosis and diabetes. This study examined three European herbs, chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla), meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria L.) and willow bark (Salix alba L.), which have been traditionally used to treat inflammation and their potential for use as antiinflammatory agents. Aqueous herbal extracts and isolated
[F4]  polyphenolic compounds (apigenin, quercetin and salicylic acid, 0-100μM) were incubated with THP1 macrophages, and interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6 and tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) were measured. At concentrations of 10μM, both apigenin and quercetin reduced IL-6 significantly (p < 0.05). Apigenin at 10μM and quercetin at 25μM reduced TNF-α significantly (p < 0.05). Amongst the herbal extracts, willow bark had the greatest antiinflammatory activity at reducing IL-6 and TNF-α production. This was followed by meadowsweet and then chamomile. The lowest effective antiinflammatory concentrations were noncytotoxic (MTT mitochondrial activity assay). The Comet assay, which was used to study the protective effect of the isolated phenols against oxidative damage, showed positive results for all three polyphenols. Catholic Church Endorses GMOs As Cure for World Hunger

Genetically modified organisms --(GMOs) are the answer to ending world hunger, at least according to the former leader of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Benedict XVI.---Pope Francis, center, meets Apostolic nuncios at the Vatican, June 21. (AP/L’Osservatore Romano)---According to a 2009 WikiLeaks cable from the U.S. embassy in the Vatican, it was discovered that “Vatican officials remain largely supportive of genetically modified crops as a vehicle for protecting the environment while feeding the hungry,” as a result of lobbying efforts by the U.S.--The cables from the U.S. embassy indicated that if the U.S. could convince the church that GMOs were good, the church would be able to convince its members. This would be a boost for the GMO industry since the Catholic Church claims more than 1 billion members.--Given that GMOs have caused controversy around the world recently as questions arise about their impact on human health, it’s uncertain whether the church will be able to convince all its members GMOs are a good thing.-- According to the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, doctors should recommend non-GMO diets to all persons, since some animal studies have suggested that diets with GMO foods can lead to organ damage, gastrointestinal and immune system disorders, accelerated aging and infertility.--Several countries have banned the use of GMO ingredients or require labeling for products containing them. According to the Organic Valley Co-Op, the corn and soybeans are animal feed crops and nations that don’t consume a lot of meat won’t benefit from their use.--Science seems to have also poked holes in the church’s argument that GMOs protect the environment. In order to grow GMO crops, farmers have to use hazardous pesticides to remove weeds and keep insects away from the crops.--However, studies indicate that farmers with GMO crops not only have to use more pesticides when they have GMO crops, but have to use more hazardous pesticides.--These pesticides and herbicides have been found to harm birds, insects, amphibians, marine ecosystems and soil organisms. Studies have also found herbicides reduce biodiversity and pollute water.--Not only are these chemicals unsafe, they are expensive. According to the Organic Valley Co-Op, “the only farmers that can afford the seeds and chemicals are those from first-world countries or the wealthy landowners from developing countries, who grow the crops for export, not to feed the poor.”---New Pope, New Stance?---While the Catholic Church’s initial pro-GMO stance was issued under Pope Benedict XVI, the church’s current leader, Pope Francis, has yet to share his view on GMOs.---According to Al Jazeera, Pope Francis is a trained chemist, which gives him more information on the scientific aspect of consuming GMOs than his predecessor. Another factor that may influence Francis is his Argentinian heritage.---Argentina relies heavily on genetically modified crops. But a new documentary demonstrates the high usage of Monsanto-manufactured GMO seeds in the Latin American nation has caused issues with land ownership in addition to health problems.---Filmmaker Glenn Ellis summarized the documentary by saying that “… Doctors and scientists claim that babies are being born with crippling birth malformations and that in recent years the incidence of childhood cancer has soared. It is a phenomenon, they say, that has coincided with the introduction of Monsanto’s seed.”


List of genetically modified foods:

It’s virtually impossible to provide a complete list of genetically modified food (GM food) in the United States because there aren’t any laws for genetically modified crops!

Some estimates say as many as 30,000 different products on grocery store shelves are "modified." That's largely because many processed foods contain soy. Half of North America's soy crop is genetically engineered!

Rapeseed - Resistance to certain pesticides and improved rapeseed cultivars to be free of erucic acid and glucosinolates. Gluconsinolates, which were found in rapeseed meal leftover from pressing, are toxic and had prevented the use of the meal in animal feed. In Canada, where "double-zero" rapeseed was developed, the crop was renamed "canola" (Canadian oil) to differentiate it from non-edible rapeseed.

Honey - Honey can be produced from GM crops. Some Canadian honey comes from bees collecting nectar from GM canola plants. This has shut down exports of Canadian honey to Europe.

Cotton - Resistant to certain pesticides - considered a food because the oil can be consumed. The introduction of genetically engineered cotton plants has had an unexpectedly effect on Chinese agriculture. The so-called Bt cotton plants that produce a chemical that kills the cotton bollworm have not only reduced the incidence of the pest in cotton fields, but also in neighboring fields of corn, soybeans, and other crops.

Rice - Genetically modified to contain high amounts of Vitamin A. Rice containing human genes is to be grown in the US. Rather than end up on dinner plates, the rice will make human proteins useful for treating infant diarrhoea in the developing world.

Soybean - Genetically modified to be resistant to herbicides - Soy foods including, soy beverages, tofu, soy oil, soy flour, lecithin. Other products may include breads, pastries, snack foods, baked products, fried products, edible oil products and special purpose foods.

Sugar cane - Made resistant to certain pesticides. A large percentage of sweeteners used in processed food actually comes from corn, not sugar cane or beets. Genetically modified sugar cane is regarded so badly by consumers at the present time that it could not be marketed successfully.

Tomatoes - Made for a longer shelf life and to prevent a substance that causes tomatoes to rot and degrade.

Corn - Resistant to certain pesticides - Corn oil, flour, sugar or syrup. May include snack foods, baked goods, fried foods, edible oil products, confectionery, special purpose foods, and soft drinks.

Sweet corn - genetically modified to produces its own insecticide. Officials from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have said that  thousands of tonnes of genetically engineered sweetcorn have made their way into the human food supply chain, even though the produce has been approved only for use in animal feed. Recently Monsanto, a biotechnology food producer, said that about half of the USA's sweetcorn acreage has been planted with genetically modified seed this year.

Canola - Canola oil. May include edible oil products, fried foods, and baked products, snack foods.

Potatoes - (Atlantic, Russett Burbank, Russet Norkatah, and Shepody) - May include snack foods, processed potato products and other processed foods containing potatoes.

Flax - More and more food products contain flax oil and seed because of their excellent nutritional properties. No genetically modified flax is currently grown. An herbicide-resistant GM flax was introduced in 2001, but was soon taken off the market because European importers refused to buy it.

Papaya - The first virus resistant papayas were commercially grown in Hawaii in 1999. Transgenic papayas now cover about one thousand hectares, or three quarters of the total Hawaiian papaya crop. Monsanto, donated technology to Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, for developing a papaya resistant to the ringspot virus in India.

Squash - (yellow crookneck) - Some zucchini and yellow crookneck squash are also GM but they are not popular with farmers.

Red-hearted chicory - (radicchio) - Chicory (Cichorium intybus var. foliosum) is popular in some regions as a salad green, especially in France and Belgium. Scientists developed a genetically modified line of chicory containing a gene that makes it male sterile, simply facilitating the production of hybrid cultivars. Today there is no genetically modified chicory on the market.

Cotton seed oil - Cottonseed oil and linters. Products may include blended vegetable oils, fried foods, baked foods, snack foods, edible oil products, and smallgoods casings.

Tobacco -The company Vector has a GMO tobacco being sold under the brand of Quest® cigarettes in the U.S. It is engineered to produce low or no nicotine.

Meat - Meat and dairy products usually come from animals that have eaten GM feed.

Peas - Genetically modified (GM) peas created immune responses in mice, suggesting that they may also create serious allergic reactions in people. The peas had been inserted with a gene from kidney beans, which creates a protein that acts as a pesticide.

Vegetable Oil - Most generic vegetable oils and margarines used in restaurants and in processed foods in North America are made from soy, corn, canola, or cottonseed. Unless these oils specifically say "Non-GMO" or "Organic," it is probably genetically modified.

Sugarbeets - May include any processed foods containing sugar.

Dairy Products - About 22 percent of cows in the U.S. are injected with recombinant (genetically modified) bovine growth hormone (rbGH).

Vitamins - Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is often made from corn, vitamin E is usually made from soy. Vitamins A, B2, B6, and B12 may be derived from GMOs as well as vitamin D and vitamin K may have "carriers" derived from GM corn sources, such as starch, glucose, and maltodextrin.


Pope Criminalizes the Reporting of Sex Crimes

  VATICAN CITY — Few eyebrows were raised last week when Pope Francis brought the Vatican’s legal system up to date by criminalizing leaks of official information and formalizing laws against sex crimes. But now that the laws have been made public, a closer look revealed that the pope has made it illegal to report sex crimes against children.--According to the new laws, revealing or receiving confidential Vatican information is now punishable by up to two years in prison, while newly defined sex crimes against children carry a sentence of up to twelve yearsBecause all sex crimes are kept confidential, there is no longer a legal way for Vatican officials to report sex crimes.--- “We didn’t mean for this to happen, obviously,” lamented Vatican foreign minister Monsignor Dominique Mamberti. “It’s quite the papal pickle that His Holiness has placed upon our heads. Sex crimes are more illegal than ever, but technically it’s illegal to report them.” Mamberti said that the simultaneous passing of each law is merely a coincidence and insisted that the Church is not trying to protect itself against further embarrassment, but critics outside the Vatican are skeptical.--- “We didn’t mean for this to happen, obviously,” lamented Vatican foreign minister Monsignor Dominique Mamberti. “It’s quite the papal pickle that His Holiness has placed upon our heads. Metabolic Therapy-

Metabolic therapy uses a combination of special diets, enzymes, nutritional supplements, and other measures in an attempt to remove "toxins" from the body and strengthen the body's defenses against disease.


There is no convincing scientific evidence that metabolic therapy is effective in treating cancer. However there are many different practices that make up metabolic therapy. Some of these practices may be harmful.

How is it promoted for use?

Metabolic therapy is based on the belief that toxic substances in food and the environment build up in the body and create chemical imbalances that lead to diseases such as cancer, arthritis, and multiple sclerosis. Some proponents of this approach say that metabolic therapy rids the body of these toxins and strengthens its resistance to disease. Some claim that a special diet can cure serious illnesses, including cancer. Others claim that they can evaluate a patient's metabolism and diagnose cancer before symptoms appear and that they can locate tumors and learn the tumor's size and growth rate.

What does it involve?

Metabolic therapies vary a great deal depending on the practitioner, but all are based on special diets and detoxification. This usually involves natural, whole foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as vitamins and mineral supplements. Other measures may include colonic irrigation with coffee or hydrogen peroxide enemas, juicing, enzyme supplements, visualization, and stress-reduction exercises. At least one metabolic therapy system also includes the drug laetrile (see Colon Therapy, Enzyme Therapy, Imagery, Juicing, and Laetrile).

Among the better known types of metabolic therapy are Kelley's treatment, the Gonzalez treatment, Issels whole body therapy, and Gerson therapy (see Gerson Therapy,).

Kelley's treatment includes dietary supplements (such as enzymes and large doses of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids), detoxification (such as fasting, exercising, and using laxatives and coffee enemas), a restricted diet, chiropractic adjustments, and prayer. Practitioners classify people into different metabolic types that form the basis for individual dietary and supplement recommendations.

The Gonzalez treatment is similar to Kelley's treatment and includes extracts or concentrates from animal organs such as thymus and liver (taken from beef or lamb) and digestive enzymes as part of the plan (see Cell Therapy).

Another form of metabolic therapy is Issels whole body therapy. Patients are asked to remove teeth that contain mercury dental fillings, follow a strict diet, and eliminate the use of tobacco, coffee, tea, and other substances that are considered harmful. Some patients are encouraged to undergo psychotherapy to relieve stress and deal with anger and emotional distress (see Psychotherapy).

Gerson therapy involves a strict dietary program, coffee enemas, and various mineral or chemical supplements.

What is the history behind it?

Gerson therapy was introduced by Max Gerson, MD, a German-born physician who immigrated to the United States in 1936. Gerson initially used the therapy for treating migraine headaches and tuberculosis and began using it for cancer in 1928. Kelley's treatment was developed in the 1960s by American orthodontist William Donald Kelley, DDS, MS. Nicholas Gonzalez, MD, became interested in metabolic therapy as a medical student in 1981 when he was asked to review Dr. Kelley's work.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Harold Manner, PhD, a biology professor, was also a major proponent of metabolic therapy. He claimed to have cured cancer in mice with injections of laetrile, enzymes, and vitamin A. In his version of metabolic cancer therapy, patients often received another unproven alternative substance, a chemical compound called dimethyl sulfoxide (see DMSO). In the early 1980s, Dr. Manner moved to Tijuana, Mexico, to treat patients (see Questionable Cancer Practices in Mexico). His clinic there is still open despite his death in 1988.

What is the evidence?

There is general agreement among scientists that there are differences in the metabolism of certain cells in people with cancer compared to people without cancer. There is also general agreement regarding the importance of attention to optimal nutrition as a component of conventional oncology care. Otherwise, there is no convincing clinical evidence that supports the claims made for metabolic therapy or any of its components. Some aspects of metabolic therapy may in fact be harmful.

An article on metabolic therapies on the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Web site concludes that "…retrospective reviews of the Gerson, Kelley, and Contreras metabolic therapies show no evidence of efficacy." And a review article in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, "Colonic Irrigation and the Theory of Autointoxication," concludes that

"[c]offee enemas are a hazardous derivative of colon therapy…. Its proponents claim that caffeine is absorbed in the colon and leads to a vasodilatation in the liver, which in turn enhances the process of elimination of toxins. None of this is proved, nor is there any evidence of the clinical efficacy of coffee enemas. Coffee enemas are associated with severe adverse reactions."

In a 1990 report from the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment, 3 oncologists reviewed the "best cases" collected by Dr. Gonzalez. In the vast majority of these cases, they found claims of benefit from metabolic therapy to be unconvincing. In addition, they found a few cases to be "unusual" at best, meaning that these patients lived longer than typical people with the same type and stage of cancer but concluded that this difference was probably due to statistical variation that occurs when "best cases" are selected from a large group of patients. A group of physicians who practiced alternative medicine (none of whom were cancer specialists) concluded that the alternative regimen was beneficial in some cases.

A small study of patients with pancreatic cancer -- conducted by Dr. Gonzalez and published in Nutrition and Cancer in 1999 -- found that patients treated with pancreatic enzymes survived longer than typical patients with pancreatic cancer. In a recent review of alternative cancer cures, an expert in integrative oncology research methods noted that, "The study was small and obviously prone to several biases. Not only is the comparison with national averages unadjusted for confounders (other factors that can affect outcome), but the principal results are based on patient selection; twelve patients who did not comply with treatment were excluded from analysis." A randomized clinical trial has been sponsored by the National Cancer Institute to evaluate the Gonzalez regimen for treating pancreatic cancer, but no results of this trial have yet been published in any available peer-reviewed medical journal.

Are there any possible problems or complications?

These substances may have not been thoroughly tested to find out how they interact with medicines, foods, or dietary supplements. Even though some reports of interactions and harmful effects may be published, full studies of interactions and effects are not often available. Because of these limitations, any information on ill effects and interactions below should be considered incomplete.

Some aspects of metabolic therapy are considered dangerous. There are reports of complications related to liver cell injections, as well as nutritional deficiencies due to restricted diets. Several deaths have been directly linked to injecting live cells from animals (a practice called cell therapy). The drug laetrile may cause nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, and even cyanide poisoning, which can be fatal. Care should be taken to make sure that any diet containing raw meat or raw meat juice is free from contamination, given the increasing number of diseases that are known to be transmitted from animals to people.

Reports of illness and even deaths linked to colonic irrigation have been published in several medical journals. (See Colon Therapy for more information.) People with diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, severe hemorrhoids, or rectal or colon tumors, or who are recovering from bowel surgery, may be at higher risk of bowel injury when using enemas. People with kidney or heart failure may be more likely to experience fluid overload or electrolyte imbalances. Enemas can also cause discomfort and cramps.

To remove pesticides from fruits and Veggies and esp for the purpose of cleaning berries which even if organic are the highest sources of super bacterias that are very powerful (never mind the pesticides if got the inorganic ones)… all you need to do it put the veggies/fruits/berries into a container and fill with water and put in one tbl of 35% Hydrogen Peroxide or ½ cup of regular hydrogen peroxide you buy at any store… --- for the 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide… this stuff is a pain in the butt and will bleach your hands quick, so handle with care, I put this stuff into a dropper bottle I put in fridge and take for use with any protocol or heavy metals of lead and/or arsenic I’m trying to remove… my protocol for this is 3 drops 3x/day in 2 to 3 cups of water, for 3 weeks, is usually enough, but Barry Carter mentioned on the call that he does this protocol only once a day like so -  1 drop first day, 2 drops next day, adding one drop each day til at 20 drops, always mix with plenty of water, like 3 cups and do for 3 weeks – til at 20 drops and that’s usually the end of lead and arsenic poisoning…. ( or could just do the mini beet protocol for a couple months, but this is faster, though the mini beet protocol is much more pervasive and will catch all lead and arsenic in all cells and bone no matter how long ago they were deposited there!) --Why 35% - b/c it is purer form of H2O2 than store bought 3%... ---

One more note:  this is a great way to de-pesticide but you are NOT getting rid of the chemical exposure that has transformed your veggies and fruits… so for those fortunate enough to buy nothing but organic, that is awesome and that is the best, and for those not so fortunate enough to buy organic only, then this is a way to help yourself out, b/c I do this wash when I cannot find organic, and the second I’m home with groceries, if any with pesticides, I fill up sink and go at it… then let them all dry - put everything into the fridge… and I’m good to go.  (note… anything I de-pesticide that has an easily removeable skin, esp. an apple or say even a squash, I will peel it anyway just for overkill b/4 I eat or cook it, respectively) Again this is not as effective at 99.9% removal as the machine I mentioned, but it is a great and amazingly cheap alternative


For those with a little more knowledge and background, I will put in another note:  yes, chemicals etc in the fruits/veggies that are not organic force a chemical change in structure of the foods you eat even if remove 100% of all the pesticides afterwards, there is still the messed up “nature” of these inorganics to take into consideration, but for those on limited budget these inorganics will NOT stop you from being healed of your diseases etc…for those that have the money, buy 100% organic.


35%  - for those that get themselves bleached in the process of pouring 35% H2O2, b/c did not use gloves… no problem, just put on some olive oil immediately and then wash hands with soap and water 3 times then put on more olive oil… even if hands are white they will no longer burn, or will stop burning within few mins, no worries…you will find the whiteness will continue for a while, no problem, but the burning has totally stopped and within the hour or within a few hours all whiteness is completely gone…  if Barry has better alternatives for those who get a little 35% H2O2 on themselves, please let me know as well, thanx so sooo much!


I also use this as a healthy alternative to bleach when need to bleach clothing instead of using Clorox or etc… so 35% makes for excellent and superior bleach alternative…also good if wash clothes with vinegar and 35% H2O2…

Pigment bases

Manufacturers are not required to reveal their ingredients or conduct trials, and recipes may be proprietary. Professional inks may be made from iron oxides (rust), metal salts, plastics.[6] Homemade or traditional tattoo inks may be made from pen ink, soot, dirt, blood, or other ingredients.[3][7]

CHeavy metals used for colors includeC mercury (red); C lead (yellow, green, white); Ccadmium (red, orange, yellow); Cnickel (black); zinc (yellow, white); chromium (green); cobalt (blue); C aluminium (green, violet); Ctitanium (white); copper (blue, green); iron (brown, red, black); and Cbarium (white). Metal oxides used includeC ferrocyanide andC ferricyanide (yellow, red, green, blue). Organic chemicals used include azo-chemicals (orange, brown, yellow, green, violet) and naptha-derived chemicals (red). Carbon (soot or ash) is also used for black. Other compounds used as pigments include antimony, Carsenic, Cberyllium, calcium, Clithium, selenium, and sulphur.[5][7]--Tattoo ink manufacturers typically blend the heavy metal pigments and/or use lightening agents (such as lead or titanium) to reduce production costs

Black Pigments

Traditional monochrome tattoos are still very popular, making black one of the most common colors of tattoo ink. Black pigment typically consists of magnetite crystals, carbon, powdered jet, bone black, wustite or logwood extract. These ingredients cover the range of typical pigment sources, including metal salts, traditional minerals, vegetable dyes and modern organics and plastics. However, according to a study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology in 2009, few cases of adverse reactions to tattoo ink, including allergic responses, have been linked to black pigments.

Black henna

Health Canada has advised against the use of "black henna" temporary tattoo ink which containsC para-phenylenediamine (PPD), an ingredient in hair dyes. Black henna is normally applied externally in temporary Mehandi applications, rather than being inserted beneath the skin in a permanent tattoo.--Allergic reactions to PPD include rashes, contact dermatitis, itching, blisters, open sores, scarring and other potentially harmful effects.[2]


Brown or Flesh Tone Pigments

Brown and flesh tone tattoo inks derive their pigments from ochre, or ferric oxides that are sometimes mixed with clay. Although naturally yellow in color, ochre develops a reddish hue when heated and dried.

Red, Orange and Yellow Pigments

While the "warm" colors of red, yellow and orange are similar in hue, they derive from a wide variety of ingredients. Red pigment can consist of cinnabar (mercury sulfide) and cadmium red (both known to be toxic), iron oxide (otherwise known as common "rust") or napthol, which has a lower incidence of adverse reactions. Orange pigment is made from disazopyrazolone, disazodiarylide or cadmium seleno-sulfide, which are fairly stable organic substance. Yellow pigment is made from curcuma (found in ginger plants such as tumeric), cadmium yellow, ochres, disazodiarylide or chrome yellow.

Green, Blue and Violet Pigments

The "cool" colors of green, blue and violet also derive from a variety of sources. Green pigments are generally metallic or mineral in nature and are sometimes formed by mixing yellow and blue pigments. Sources of green pigments can include chromium oxide, ferro- and ferricyanides, lead chromate, malachite, monoazo pigment and phthalocyanines. Blue pigments include azure and cobalt blue, cobalt aluminate and copper phtalocyanine, which the FDA considers safe enough for use in infant products and contact lenses. Violet pigments include manganese ammonium pyrophosphate, dioxazine/carbazole, quinacridone and aluminum salts. Note that some violet pigments may tend to fade and shift in hue after long exposure to sunlight.

White Pigments

White pigments can be used in isolation to create white tattoo ink, or they can lighten the shade of another color. White pigments are often based on lead carbonate, barium sulfate, titanium dioxide or zinc oxide


The Liquid Part of Tattoo Ink

Tattoo ink consists of pigment and a carrier. The carrier may be a single substance or a mixture. The purpose of the carrier is to keep the pigment evenly distributed in a fluid matrix, to inhibit the growth of pathogens, to prevent clumping of pigment, and to aid in application to the skin. Among the safest and most common ingredients used to make the liquid are:

  • ethyl alcohol (ethanol)
  • purified water
  • witch hazel
  • Listerine
  • propylene glycol
  • glycerine (glycerol)

However, many other substances have been and may be used, including:

  • denatured alcohols (are toxic and can burn the skin)
  • other alcohols (methyl alcohol or methanol and isopropyl alcohol or rubbing alcohol are commonly used, although they are toxic)
  • ethylene glycol (antifreeze, which is toxic)
  • aldehydes, such as formaldehyde and gluteraldehyde (highly toxic)
  • various surfactants or detergents

There are many other substances that could be found in an ink. A tattooist has the choice of mixing his or her own ink (mixing dry dispersed pigment and a carrier solution) or purchasing what are called predispersed pigments. Many predispersed pigments are as safe or safer than inks mixed by the tattooist. However, the ingredient list need not be disclosed, so any chemical could be present in the ink. The best advice is to make sure the ink supplier and the particular ink has a long history of safety. Although I have applied the word 'toxic' to many substances listed on the pigment and carrier list, that is an oversimplification. Some of these chemicals are mutagens, carcinogens, teratogens, toxins, or participate in other reactions in the body, some of which may not show up for decades.

Another interesting factoid concerning alcohol is that it is known as a 'promoter'. In biomedical parlance, this means alcohol works synergistically with mutagens, teratogens, and carcinogens to make them more likely to cause harm than they would by themselves. If any hazardous substances are present in the ink, alcohol helps them into the body and then increases the chance that they may cause mutation or disease, not just at the site of the tattoo, but throughout the body

(KipNews)  Children of God for Life is calling on the public to boycott products of major food companies that are partnering with Senomyx, a biotech company that produces artificial flavor enhancers, unless the company stops using aborted fetal cell lines to test their products.

In 2010, the pro-life organization wrote to Senomyx CEO Kent Snyder, pointing out that moral options for testing their food additives could and should be used.

But when Senomyx ignored their letter, they  wrote to the companies Senomyx listed on their website as “collaborators” warning them of public backlash and threatened boycott.  Food giants Pepsico, Kraft Foods, Campbell Soup, Solae and Nestlé are the primary targets of the boycott, though Senomyx boasts other international partners on their website.

Senomyx website states that “The company’s key flavor programs focus on the discovery and development of savory, sweet and salt flavor ingredients that are intended to allow for the reduction of MSG, sugar and salt in food and beverage products.…Using isolated human taste receptors, we created proprietary taste receptor-based assay systems that provide a biochemical or electronic readout when a flavor ingredient interacts with the receptor.”

Senomyx notes their collaborators provide them research and development funding plus royalties on sales of products using their flavor ingredients.

“What they do not tell the public is that they are using HEK 293 – human embryonic kidney cells taken from an electively aborted baby to produce those receptors”, stated Debi Vinnedge, Executive Director for Children of God for Life, a pro-life watch dog group that has been monitoring the use of aborted fetal material in medical products and cosmetics for years.

“They could have easily chosen COS (monkey) cells, Chinese Hamster Ovary cells, insect cells or other morally obtained human cells expressing the G protein for taste receptors”, Vinnedge added.

In writing to their collaborators, it took three letters before Nestlé finally admitted the truth about their relationship with Senomyx, noting the cell line was “well established in scientific research”.

After hearing Ms Vinnedge speak publicly on the problem, angry consumers began writing the companies. Both Pepsico and Campbell Soup immediately responded.

Shockingly, Pepsico wrote: “We hope you are reassured to learn that our collaboration with Senomyx is strictly limited to creating lower-calorie, great-tasting beverages for consumers. This will help us achieve our commitment to reduce added sugar per serving by 25% in key brands in key markets over the next decade and ultimately help people live healthier lives.”---Campbell Soup was more concerned in their response: “Every effort is made to use the finest ingredients and develop the greatest selection of products, all at a great value. With this in mind, it must be said that the trust we have cultivated and developed over the years with our consumers is not worth compromising to cut costs or increase profit margins.”--While Campbell did not state they would change their methods, still their response, gave Vinnedge hope. “If enough people voice their outrage and intent to boycott these consumer products, it can be highly effective in convincing Senomyx to change their methods”, she noted.

Origins of HEK 293 Cells

HEK 293 cells were generated in the early 70s by transformation of cultures of normal human embryonic kidney cells with sheared adenovirus 5 DNA in Alex Van der Eb’s laboratory in Leiden, The Netherlands.

The human embryonic kidney cells were obtained from an aborted fetus and originally cultured by Van der Eb himself; the transformation by adenovirus was performed by Frank Graham who published his findings in the late 1970s after he left Leiden for McMaster University in Canada.

They are called HEK for human embryonic kidney, while the number 293 comes from Graham’s habit of numbering his experiments; the original HEK 293 cell clone was simply the product of his 293rd experiment.

The digestive tract is also home to a vast colony of bacteria of all varieties, as well as the myriad viruses that prey upon them. Because the types of bacteria carried inside the body vary from person to person, so does this viral population, known as the virome.---By closely following and analyzing the virome of one individual over two-and-a-half years, researchers from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, led by professor of Microbiology Frederic D. Bushman, Ph.D., have uncovered some important new insights on how a viral population can change and evolve -- and why the virome of one person can vary so greatly from that of another. The evolution and variety of the virome can affect susceptibility and resistance to disease among individuals, along with variable effectiveness of drugs.--Their work was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.--Most of the virome consists of bacteriophages, viruses that infect bacteria rather than directly attacking their human hosts. However, the changes that bacteriophages wreak upon bacteria can also ultimately affect humans.---"Bacterial viruses are predators on bacteria, so they mold their populations," says Bushman. Bushman notes that "different people have quite different bacteria in their guts, so the viral predators on those bacteria are also different. Sudden Decline in Testosterone May Cause Parkinson's Disease Symptoms in Men

July 26, 2013 — The results of a new study by neurological researchers at Rush University Medical Center show that a sudden decrease of testosterone, the male sex hormone, may cause Parkinson's like symptoms in male mice. The findings were recently published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry.--One of the major roadblocks for discovering drugs against Parkinson's disease is the unavailability of a reliable animal model for this disease.--"While scientists use different toxins and a number of complex genetic approaches to model Parkinson's disease in mice, we have found that the sudden drop in the levels of testosterone following castration is sufficient to cause persistent Parkinson's like pathology and symptoms in male mice," said Dr. Kalipada Pahan, lead author of the study and the Floyd A. Davis endowed professor of neurology at Rush. "We found that the supplementation of testosterone in the form of 5-alpha dihydrotestosterone (DHT) pellets reverses Parkinson's pathology in male mice."---"In men, testosterone levels are intimately coupled to many disease processes," said Pahan. Typically, in healthy males, testosterone level is the maximum in the mid-30s, which then drop about one percent each year. However, testosterone levels may dip drastically due to stress or sudden turn of other life events, which may make somebody more vulnerable to Parkinson's disease.---"Therefore, preservation of testosterone in males may be an important step to become resistant to Parkinson's disease," said Pahan.[F1] --Understanding how the disease works is important to developing effective drugs that protect the brain and stop the progression of Parkinson's disease. Nitric oxide is an important molecule for our brain and the body.--"However, when nitric oxide is produced within the brain in excess by a protein called inducible nitric oxide synthase, neurons start dying," said Pahan.--"This study has become more fascinating than we thought," said Pahan. "After castration, levels of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and nitric oxide go up in the brain dramatically. Interestingly, castration does not cause Parkinson's like symptoms in male mice deficient in iNOS gene, indicating that loss of testosterone causes symptoms via increased nitric oxide production." "Further research must be conducted to see how we could potentially target testosterone levels in human males in order to find a viable treatment," said Pahan.--Other researchers at Rush involved in this study were Saurabh Khasnavis, PhD, student, Anamitra Ghosh, PhD, student, and Avik Roy, PhD, research assistant professor.--This research was supported by a grant from the National Institutes of Health that received the highest score for its scientific merit in the particular cycle it was reviewed- Parkinson's is a slowly progressive disease that affects a small area of cells within the mid-brain known as the substantia nigra. Gradual degeneration of these cells causes a reduction in a vital chemical neurotransmitter, dopamine. The decrease in dopamine results in one or more of the classic signs of Parkinson's disease that includes resting tremor on one side of the body; generalized slowness of movement; stiffness of limbs and gait or balance problems. The cause of the disease is unknown. Both environmental and genetic causes of the disease have been postulated.

Parkinson's disease affects about 1.2 million patients in the United States and Canada. Although 15 percent of patients are diagnosed before age 50, it is generally considered a disease that targets older adults, affecting one of every 100 persons over the age of 60. Cigarette smoking is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease. The cardiovascular effects of smoking are probably multifactorial, including effects on platelets. Previous reports investigating the effects of nicotine and tobacco on platelet function are inconsistent. The present study investigated in vitro effects of nicotine, its major metabolites, tobacco extracts and extract of tobacco-free snuff on human platelets. None of the metabolites cotinine, cotinine-N-oxide, nicotine-1'-N-oxide or trans-3'-hydroxycotinine (0.1-10 μM) affected platelet aggregation or P-selectin expression. Nicotine (10 μM) weakly increased platelet aggregation, whereas trans-3'-hydroxycotinine (0.1 μM) and nicotine-1'-N-oxide (1-10 μM) weakly inhibited adhesion to fibrinogen. To elucidate the influence of other tobacco compounds, we investigated the impact of moist tobacco and smoke extracts on platelet function. Filtered extracts of oral snuff, cigarette smoke and tobacco free snuff inhibited platelet adhesion concentration-dependently. The inhibitory effects of tobacco extracts on platelet adhesion were independent of nicotine content and the nitric-oxide-pathway and not mediated through a platelet-nicotine-receptor. Taken together, tobacco extracts inhibit platelet activation during short-term in vitro challenge. As only limited effects of nicotine and nicotine metabolites were seen, the tobacco-induced platelet inhibition are likely induced by other compounds present in tobacco and tobacco free snuff.


Four or More Cups of Coffee a Day May Keep Prostate Cancer Recurrence and Progression Away

Aug. 26, 2013Coffee consumption is associated with a lower risk of prostate cancer recurrence and progression, according to a new study by Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center scientists that is online ahead of print in Cancer Causes & Control.--Corresponding author Janet L. Stanford, Ph.D., co-director of the Program in Prostate Cancer Research in the Fred Hutch Public Health Sciences Division, conducted the study to determine whether the bioactive compounds in coffee and tea may prevent prostate cancer recurrence and delay progression of the disease.--Stanford and colleagues found that men who drank four or more cups of coffee per day experienced a 59 percent reduced risk of prostate cancer recurrence and/or progression as compared to those who drank only one or fewer cups per week.--They did not, however, find an association between coffee drinking and reduced mortality from prostate cancer, although the study included too few men who died of prostate cancer to address that issue separately.

First study to assess the link between tea and prostate cancer outcomes

Regarding tea consumption, the researchers did not find an associated reduction of prostate cancer recurrence and/or progression. The study also did not draw any conclusions regarding the impact of tea drinking on prostate-specific death.---"To our knowledge, our study is the first to investigate the potential association between tea consumption and prostate cancer outcomes," the authors wrote. "It is important to note, however, that few patients in our cohort were regular tea drinkers and the highest category of tea consumption was one or more cups per day. The association should be investigated in future studies that have access to larger populations with higher levels of tea consumption."---The population-based study involved 1,001 prostate cancer survivors, aged 35-74 years old at the time of diagnosis between 2002-2005, who were residents of King County, Wash. Participants answered questions regarding their diet and beverage consumption two years prior to prostate cancer diagnosis using a validated food frequency questionnaire, and were interviewed about demographic and lifestyle information, family history of cancer, medication use and prostate cancer screening history.---The researchers followed up with patients more than five years after diagnosis to ascertain whether the prostate cancer had recurred and/or progressed. Those who were still living, willing to be contacted and had been diagnosed with non-metastatic cancer were included in the follow-up effort.--Of the original 1,001 patients in the cohort, 630 answered questions regarding coffee intake, fit the follow-up criteria and were included in the final analysis. Of those, 61 percent of the men consumed at least one cup of coffee per day and 12 percent consumed the highest amount: four or more cups per day.

The study also evaluated daily coffee consumption in relation to prostate cancer-specific death in 894 patients using data from the initial food frequency questionnaire. After the median follow-up period of eight-and-a-half years, 125 of the men had died, including 38 specifically from prostate cancer. Daily coffee consumption was not associated with prostate cancer-specific mortality or other-cause mortality, but with few deaths these analyses were limited.--"Our study differs from previous ones because we used a composite definition of prostate cancer recurrence/progression," said first author Milan Geybels, a doctoral student at Maastricht University in the Netherlands who was a graduate student in Stanford's Prostate Studies group at Fred Hutch when the study was conducted. "We used detailed information on follow-up prostate-specific antigen levels, use of secondary treatment for prostate cancer and data from scans and biopsies to assess occurrence of metastases and cause-specific mortality during follow up. Using these detailed data, we could determine whether a patient had evidence of prostate cancer recurrence or progression."---The results are consistent with findings from Harvard's Health Professionals Follow-up Study, which found that men who drank six or more cups of coffee per day had a 60 percent decreased risk of metastatic/lethal prostate cancer as compared to coffee abstainers.[F1] 

Phytochemicals in coffee have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects

Further research is required to understand the mechanisms underlying the results of the study, but biological activities associated with consumption of phytochemical compounds found in coffee include anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects and modulation of glucose metabolism. These naturally occurring compounds include:

  • Caffeine, which has properties that inhibit cell growth and encourage apoptosis, or programmed cell death. Previous studies have found that caffeine consumption may reduce the risk of several cancer types, including basal-cell carcinoma, glioma (a cancer of the brain and central nervous system) and ovarian cancer.
  • Diterpenes cafestol and kahweol, which may inhibit cancer growth.
  • Chlorogenic acid, which, along with caffeic acid, can inhibit DNA methylation, a biochemical process involved in the development and progression of many cancer types.

Additional studies needed to confirm whether coffee can prevent cancer recurrence

The researchers emphasize that coffee or specific coffee components cannot be recommended for secondary prevention of prostate cancer before the preventive effect has been demonstrated in a randomized clinical trial. Further, there's ongoing debate about which components in coffee are anti-carcinogenic, and additional large, prospective studies are needed to confirm whether coffee intake is beneficial for secondary prevention.

Coffee drinking may even be problematic for some men, Geybels said.

"Although coffee is a commonly consumed beverage, we have to point out that increasing one's coffee intake may be harmful for some men. For instance, men with hypertension may be vulnerable to the adverse effects of caffeine in coffee. Or, specific components in coffee may raise serum cholesterol levels, posing a possible threat to coronary health. Patients who have questions or concerns about their coffee intake should discuss them with their general practitioner," he said.

The investigators also noted limits to their study, which included a lack of data on how coffee consumption might have changed following diagnosis, whether the coffee that participants consumed was caffeinated or decaffeinated, and how the coffee was prepared (espresso, boiled or filtered), a factor that may affect the bioactive properties of the brew.

Coffee Consumption Associated With Reduced Risk of Advanced Prostate Cancer

Dec. 8, 2009 — While it is too early for physicians to start advising their male patients to take up the habit of regular coffee drinking, data presented at the American Association for Cancer Research Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research Conference revealed a strong inverse association between coffee consumption and the risk of lethal and advanced prostate cancers.---"Coffee has effects on insulin and glucose metabolism as well as sex hormone levels, all of which play a role in prostate cancer. It was plausible that there may be an association between coffee and prostate cancer," said Kathryn M. Wilson, Ph.D., a postdoctoral fellow at the Channing Laboratory, Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health.--In a prospective investigation, Wilson and colleagues found that men who drank the most coffee had a 60 percent lower risk of aggressive prostate cancer than men who did not drink any coffee. This is the first study of its kind to look at both overall risk of prostate cancer and risk of localized, advanced and lethal disease.--"Few studies have looked prospectively at this association, and none have looked at coffee and specific prostate cancer outcomes," said Wilson. "We specifically looked at different types of prostate cancer, such as advanced vs. localized cancers or high-grade vs. low-grade cancers."--Caffeine is actually not the key factor in this association, according to Wilson. The researchers are unsure which components of the beverage are most important, as coffee contains many biologically active compounds like antioxidants and minerals.--Using the Health Professionals' Follow-Up Study, the researchers documented the regular and decaffeinated coffee intake of nearly 50,000 men every four years from 1986 to 2006; 4,975 of these men developed prostate cancer over that time. They also examined the cross-sectional association between coffee consumption and levels of circulating hormones in blood samples collected from a subset of men in the cohort.--"Very few lifestyle factors have been consistently associated with prostate cancer risk, especially with risk of aggressive disease, so it would be very exciting if this association is confirmed in other studies," said Wilson. "Our results do suggest there is no reason to stop drinking coffee out of any concern about prostate cancer."--This association might also help understand the biology of prostate cancer and possible chemoprevention measures. Aug. 27, 2013 — A belief in conspiracy theories may influence parents' intentions to have their children vaccinated against diseases such as measles. That is the conclusion of research being presented today, 28 August 2013, by Daniel Jolley and Karen Douglas at the Annual Conference of the British Psychological Society's Social Psychology Section in Exeter.--Jolley and Douglas asked a sample of 89 parents about their views on anti-vaccine conspiracy theories and then asked participants to indicate their intention to have a fictional child vaccinated. They found that stronger belief in anti-vaccine conspiracy theories was associated with less intention to have the child vaccinated.---In a second study of 188 participants, Jolley and Douglas exposed participants to information concerning anti-vaccine conspiracy theories. It was found that reading this material reduced participants' intention to have a fictional child vaccinated, relative to participants who were given refuting information, or those in a control condition.--Daniel Jolley said: "The recent outbreak of measles in the UK illustrates the importance of vaccination. Our studies demonstrate that anti-vaccine conspiracy theories may present a barrier to vaccine uptake.[F1] "[F2] --Dr Douglas added: "Our findings point to the potentially detrimental consequences of anti-vaccine conspiracy theories. How to Heal Wounds With Sugar

Get step-by-step instructions for treating open wounds with sugar

The best way to heal any open wound—including burns, lacerations, scrapes, bedsores, and diabetic ulcers—is with sugar dressings.

When sugar is packed in a wound, it creates a highly concentrated medium where bacteria cannot survive. Sugar also reduces swelling, encourages the removal of dead tissue, and promotes the formation of connective tissue and new blood vessels. The net result is rapid healing with minimal scarring.

To use a sugar dressing to treat a wound, follow these steps:

  1. Mix a couple of tablespoons of white sugar with enough glycerin to form a peanut butter-like consistency. (Glycerin, also called glycerol, simply helps the sugar stay in place. It’s sold in drugstores or may be ordered in bulk online.)
  2. Take a 4" x 4" piece of gauze and pull it into a long strip.
  3. Coat the gauze with petroleum jelly (Vaseline).
  4. Place the gauze around the outside of the wound. (It will act as a dam to contain the sugar.)
  5. Put a thick layer of the sugar/glycerin paste over the wound and cover with a sponge gauze.
  6. Secure with a cling dressing that holds the sugar in place but does not constrict.
  7. Change the sugar dressing every two to four days by removing the gauze, rinsing the wound with water, saline, or hydrogen peroxide, drying it, and applying fresh sugar/glycerin.

Note: Honey (without glycerin) may be used in place of sugar, but I prefer sugar because it’s less expensive. Sugar and honey are perfectly safe to use on diabetic wounds because they do not enter the bloodstream. They will not work on abscesses or pustules that are covered with skin. Also, do not use these dressings on a bleeding wound, as sugar promotes bleeding.

You can also just add enough water to sugar to turn into a paste---this to will work

First Long Term Study Released on Pigs, Cattle Who Eat GMO Soy and Corn Offers Frightening Results

As UK officials tout GMO foods as ‘safe’ compared to organic crops, results of a long-term, peer-reviewed study conducted by a group of scientists led by Dr Judy Carman of the Institute of Health and Environmental Research in Australia has been released – and it proves that GMO are anything but ‘safe.’---Livestock in the UK and around the world have been fed GMO for over two decades, since the USDA authorized the commercial sale of GMO soy and corn to feed not only animals, but human beings in 1996. Much of the meat raised on these GMO crop are sent overseas, to countries like the UK, elsewhere in Europe, and even to cattle-abundant nations like Australia. This most recent study proves that a more sober examination of the long term effects of GMO on our environment and health should be demanded of corporations like Monsanto, even as other evidence mounts that GMO crops are unhealthy, especially considering that nations trying to remove GMO from their food supply are still being devastated by its ill-effects.---A loophole in the European labeling laws insinuated on the EU Commission due to lobbying pressure from the giant US grain cartel—Bunge, ADM, Cargill have allowed huge exports of US-made GMO food into Europe. Under the current laws, anything over .9 percent GMO is required to be labeled.---In this particular study, pigs and cows fed on the rather common diet of GMO corn and soy have suffered digestive and reproductive disorders. This is of particular importance since the human digestive tract is very similar to that of pigs.--Carman explains, “At a commercial piggery in the US, we took 168 just-weaned pigs and fed them a typical diet for the piggery, containing soy and corn, for 22.7 weeks (over 5 months) until the pigs were slaughtered at their usual slaughter age. Half of the pigs were fed widely-used varieties of GM soy and GM corn (the GM-fed group) for this whole period, and the other half of the pigs were fed an equivalent non-GM diet (the control group). The GM diet contained three GM genes and therefore three GM proteins. One protein made the plant resistant to a herbicide, and two proteins were insecticides.”---In short, this mixture of GMO foods led to a toxic mix in the digestive tract of the animals, leading to a reduced ability for GMO-fed pigs to reproduce. The pigs were studied from conception until slaughter (the first long term study of its kind) and all were all affected adversely. Female pigs were found to have the following possible pathologies, measured through careful analysis and post-mortem examination:[F1] 

            ·       Endometrial hyperplasia

·       Carcinoma

·       Endometritis

·       Endometriosis

·       Adenomyosis

·       Inflammation

·       Thickening of the myometrium

·       Larger presence of polyps

·       Further, the uteri of the GMO-fed pigs were fluid filled compared to      the pigs who weren’t fed a GMO diet.

·       The uteri of the pigs who consumed GMO food were 25% larger than non-GMO fed pigs.

·       Inflammation of the stomach and small intestine

·       Stomach ulcers

·       Stomach inflammation

·       Thinning of intestinal walls

·       Increase in hemorrhaging bowels (this causes the pigs to bleed to death from the bowels).

Among these horrendous findings, scientists also noted that none of these types of results have been reported in the biochemistry tests performed by Monsanto or other companies in the GM industry.

The derisory politics behind the GMO subject are perpetuated through the UK Minster’s praise of genetically altered foods. He has even said, in the face of these findings, that GMO offers, “most wonderful opportunities to improve human health.With scientific evidence like this provided by scientists who aren’t funded by Monsanto and GMO corporations, the world has an opportunity to see just how malevolent these institutions are, who develop and disseminate these altered, health-killing crops.

As Director of the National Botanical Gardens and former Master of Agricultural Science at Warrenstown Agricultural College, he has carried out more research on Vi-Aqua growth-enhancing technology than perhaps anyone else in the world:

"In the bedding plants we really saw a difference in the results; they were much hardier and tougher. You could drop a tray of these plants on the ground and they would not shatter, like ordinary plants.--"We also noticed that the treated plants needed far less fertiliser than the untreated ones. The roots took the nutrients in better whereas with other normal plants leaching of minerals occurs," explains Harold Lawler.--Impressed, Harold Lawler's research team carried out further extensive tests on a wide variety of vegetable plants: "The iceberg lettuces were far superior with faster germination, and with carrots for example, the crops were on average 46 per cent heavier," explains Harold Lawler. During recent successful tomato crop field trials in Italy, three of the country's largest Agricultural Co-op's were so impressed with the results that they have now decided to recommend the technology to the country's farming community. Elsewhere, the Indian government have now concluded their own tests, which confirm that they are able to boost tea (plant) production by over a third while using far less water. In recognition of the groundbreaking technology, the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew, London, recently took the hitherto unheard-of step of granting Professor Austin Darragh and his team the right to use their official centuries-old coat of arms on the new technology – the first time ever that Kew Gardens has afforded anyone such an honour.  -The Kew Gardens botanists were not just impressed with the research; they used the technology to restore to life a very rare orchid which had been lying dormant and practically dead in a greenhouse bell jar since 1942. Oxygen-Generating Compound Shows Promise for Saving Tissue After Severe Injury

Aug. 26, 2013 — The same compound in a common household clothes detergent shows promise as a treatment to preserve muscle tissue after severe injury. Researchers at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center's Institute for Regenerative Medicine hope the oxygen-generating compound could one day aid in saving and repairing limbs and tissue.--The research in rats, published online ahead of print in PLOS ONE, found that injections of the compound sodium percarbonate (SPO) can produce enough oxygen to help preserve muscle tissue when blood flow is disrupted.--"Some commercial detergents generate oxygen bubbles to help clean clothes or remove stains," said Benjamin Harrison, Ph.D., co-author and associate professor of regenerative medicine at Wake Forest Baptist. "We modified the material so it can be injected into muscle and provide a boost of oxygen to slow down muscle death until surgery can restore blood flow. Potential applications include treating amputations, crush injuries from car accidents or even blast injuries suffered by those in combat zones."--SPO is a combination of sodium carbonate and hydrogen peroxide molecules. In the presence of water, it decomposes into oxygen and other salts. The current formulation used by the researchers generates oxygen for about three hours.--"Normally, when blood flow to muscle tissue is reduced due to severe injury, the muscle begins to die," said Harrison. "Providing extra oxygen to oxygen-deprived muscle following injury is currently a major medical challenge. The few treatments that are available are primarily aimed at increasing the oxygen-carrying capacity of blood and require an intact system of blood vessels to carry that fluid, which we don't always have in damaged tissue."--When muscles don't have enough oxygen, they lose the ability to contract and their delicate metabolic balance (homeostasis) is impaired. The current project measured the effects of injecting oxygen-starved muscles with SPO. The first phase of this study, involving laboratory studies of muscle outside the body, compared SPO-treated muscles with non-treated muscles and found that SPO was effective at preserving both function and homeostasis in oxygen-deprived muscles.--"Our surprising finding was that even after exercising isolated leg muscles in the absence of oxygen, the muscles injected with the SPO compound could generate 20 percent more force than untreated muscles," said Harrison. "These studies were conducted using a standard laboratory test to evaluate muscle function outside the body."--Another part of the study involved rats in which the blood flow to a leg was interrupted and muscle function was studied while still in the body. The scientists measured flexion of the foot in response to nerve stimulation, which causes contraction of the tibialis anterior muscle. Even 30 minutes after the start of exercise (muscle stimulation), oxygen-deprived muscles injected with SPO maintained 30 percent of normal force. In muscles not treated with SPO, there was nearly complete cessation of contraction under identical conditions.

"This research, which evaluated muscles both outside and within the body, is the first to demonstrate that an oxygen-generating compound helps preserve muscle function and metabolic balance after oxygen-deprivation," said Harrison. "It may be a way to get oxygen to muscles when blood flow is severely compromised."--Harrison said additional work is still needed to determine if SPO will be effective in larger muscles and can be dispersed throughout the muscle, as well as if it can be applied to humans.--If successful, Harrison said the treatment could potentially extend the window of time, known as the "golden hour" in emergency medicine, when treatment has the highest chance of preventing death.--"The major implication of these findings is that oxygen-generating compounds can potentially reduce the magnitude of the permanent functional deficits resulting from traumatic injury to muscle, said George Christ, Ph.D., co-author and professor of regenerative medicine at Wake Forest Baptist. "This effect alone would be extremely valuable to both wounded warriors and civilians. Apple pectin for the reduction of niacin-induced flushing.

BACKGROUND: Niacin, or vitamin B3, when used in high doses can significantly improve the levels of all major lipoproteins. Despite these benefits, the use of niacin is greatly limited secondary to benign yet bothersome cutaneous flushing primarily involving the face and upper extremities. Pretreatment with aspirin or other prostaglandin inhibitors has demonstrated significant reductions in niacin-induced flushing (NIF), but other treatment options are needed. Clinical and anecdotal evidence suggests the ingestion of pectin-containing fruits (eg, apple) mitigates NIF; however, clinical trials evaluating this are nonexistent.
OBJECTIVE: That pretreatment with encapsulated apple pectin would limit the incidence, severity, time of initiation, and duration of NIF.
METHODS: We enrolled 100 niacin-naïve subjects (n = 25 per group) and preteated them in a double-blind manner with apple pectin, apple pectin + aspirin, aspirin, or placebo, followed by a one-time 1000 mg dose of niacin extended-release (niacin ER). Subjects then assessed major flushing parameters hourly for the next 6 hours with a validated visual analog scale.
RESULTS: Apple pectin and aspirin each significantly lowered the duration of NIF and produced nonsignificant but positive improvements in all other major flushing parameters compared with placebo.
CONCLUSION: Apple pectin may potentially be an alternative to aspirin for the prevention of NIF. Larger trials are needed to further evaluate the benefit of pectin on NIF.--PMID: 23415433 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

CSimple pectin recipe---take the white of an orange or grape fruit –peeled and chopped up apple and through into a blender and  ½ cup of water distilled and blend to a mush and do this for about 5 minutes –stop blender and set in glass container---this is your pectin so if you take a high dose of niacin then this should increase the reduction time of the flushing
